For watching films on PS3, the SIXAXIS is not an ideal controller to use. This is where this product comes in. The glossy finish is pleasing to the eye but still feels durable. It is the same length as my TV remote, so to me it seems like a good size. Comes packaged with two Sony AA batteries, so you can get started straight away.Pairing with the PS3 is easy, took me 20 seconds from my PS3 being off to the remote being paired. Many people have mentioned the fact any button turns the console on, and depending on your circumstances this can be problematic. But they have failed to mention the positive side to this. Anyone using the SIXAXIS will probably, like me, turn it off during the course of watching a film. And on trying to pause the film, finding I need to turn the controller on again. Not a massive inconvenience, I know. But with this remote, if you press, for example, the pause button with the remote switched off, the remote switches on and pauses the film without requiring you to press the PS button or press the button again.Navigating the XMB is so easy using the D-Pad, and the buttons all feel tactile and well made. There are buttons for a variety of features that most people won't use, but its nice to have them there anyway. You can use the remote for anything on the XMB, even games if you re-number the controller to 1 and the game goesn't require analogue sticks.(Not sure why you would want to do that though!?)And because of the bluetooth connection, there is no trying to aim the remote at the TV while watching a movie in the dark. Some people say they have trouble seeing the buttons in the dark. I haven't had this issue. The remote is nicely curved at the ends, which wouldn't have been possible with an IR reciever in the end. The curved shape fits the hand well and is comfortable to use.Overall, a fantastic remote. Packed full of features and has many positive points. A great product.

As my title says, if you want your PS3 to form a solid part (or even the foundation) of your home media experience, then you need this remote to bring it into the realm of normal users, i.e. girlfriends, uncles, mothers etc.. These are the kind of people who are just about comfortable with a DVD player and a remote control... the idea of using a games console and the SIXAXIS controller would scare them.Nevertheless, for me too, this is a great inexpensive addition to the PS3 experience... an added bonus (which I hoped it would do) is that you can put the PS3 into standby and bring it out of standby with the remote,as well as being able to navigate the menus just as easily as you'd expect.Using the SIXAXIS controller to watch DVDs is obviously not the best user experience and it smacks of the fact that we all know we are using our games console to watch the DVD... with the remote, that stigma then goes away.Initial setup is a piece of cake - just as you would hope - you start up your PS3, navigate through the menus and tell it to search for a Bluetooth remote control - you then press two buttons on the remote and it recognises it. Simplicity itself - just as it should be.The remote is solid and well-built - the buttons have good a tactile feeling and they are labelled very well and clear.Oh, and - yes - it's Bluetooth remember. You don't need to point it at the PS3 to do things... although you can if it makes you feel better. I still find myself falling into that trap. The next generation of users probably won't understand the concept of infra-red and line-of-sight... they'll just shrug their shoulders... but here we go...

This controller is excellent for playing MP3, Divx, Blue-ray..Well any media on your PS3.It has all the options on the buttons and is far more natural to use for playing media than the functional Six axis. As some of the options on the remote are not obvious on the six axis.It will turn on your PS3 as it has the PS button and if you use your PS3 as purely the best blue-ray media player out there then this controller is all you need.It will display the battery level on screen when ever you press the PS button. The only downside is it uses AAA batteries, but they seem to last forever so far. I've had my remote for a year now and it hasn't run down yet.It is bluetooth not Infra-red so it doesn't matter where you point it,you will need to sync' the controller to your PS3 first but this is far simpler than it sounds. On your PS3 go to your System settings and select additional Bluetooth controllers and follow the steps it will ask you to turn on your controller the PS3 will look for it, find it and its done. Its fully explained in the instruction manual.I use mine for playing my MP4 and Divx movies..Just a foot note but when you put your USB stick in your PS3 to play the movies it will say there is no compatible media on this device.. Hit the triangle for options and select show all media and the movies appear and play just fine.

wow it's large, I have a sony dvd/freeview player in another room and put both remotes next to each other. to my surprise they were almost identical the only difference was the dvd player remote has buttons on it with the exception of the buttom which has an inch of text. The ps3 remote is about half button and half nothing and I feel like they could've created a slighlty smaller remote but they were probably saving money using the same cases as the other remotes. I put it next to my samsung tv remote which is nearly half the size but contains as many buttons and couldn't believe how small it made my samsung remote look. It's also very ugly, it's really chunky and doesn't look like it belongs with a playstation. The PS3 is all about curves and this is just straight lines and certainly needs a slimmer model. However, it's been well made and works, matching it up to a PS3 is easy and quick and there was no delay in button presses. The best bit is anyone can use it, my family always required me to help play a film and use the menu of the blu ray but now they can do it themselves. If you have your ps3 in a family room and your family use it for blu rays only but struggle with the controller I would certainly consider buying it. overall it's great but needs a bit of an update but don't let that put you off.

This is a good remote and beats using the game pad.But it has a few flaws#1 It has a lot of "on" buttons. In fact every single button is an on button. This is annoying when you leave the remote on your sofa and touch it by mistake.. the system boots up whether you actually wanted to use it or not.#2 It doesn't have an "off" button. If you accidentally switch it on you need to go through the menus OR push the off button on the console (defeating the purpose of a remote control)#3 The Stop button is located between the skip buttons, and between the play and pause button. It's too easy to push.I consider all the above to be poor design. The controller doesn't go out of its way to be impressive. It takes AA batteries instead of a rechargeable battery. It doesn't have a backlight. One feature which is missing is the ability to control the volume or power buttons of a television (probably due to the lack of infrared.) It's a bit disappointing, at the very least the PS3 should allow you to change the volume even if it just a software feature of the PS3 accessed through the remote.Overall, it's a controller, end of. It's not particularly impressive but it's a necessity. It probably should have been bundled with the console!

The PS3 remote is a useful gadget for 2 good reasons: 1) it allows a non-gamer to navigate around the PS3 music, films. photos etc 2) it makes moview viewing a lot simpler. Buying this has allowed my wife to enjoy the console which makes it worth the money alone.I've tried using the sixaxis game controller to watch DVDs and it can be a problem. Firstly the left stick can be knocked pretty easily when you have it sat on your lap causing the playback speed to change. Secondly, it is all to easy to press the wrong (unlabeled) button when you need to pause or resume. With the remote you have a well laid out, well labeled set of buttons that includes all of the options that would normally require on screen display (such as the audio and angle options)as well as an eject button and all of the game contoller buttons. You can even use it with the web browser if you don't mind the slightly slower screen navigation.Note: it does have a fuly functional PS button on it so you can use it to turn the system on and off (to standbye) and, like the game controller, you can use it to have multiple functions running at the same time (such as the music player with the photo viewer)

What an intriguing little device! Working on the same Bluetooth signal as your controllers, this remote offers the XMB menu control which is a delight (especially when you want to fiddle with display output settings), and plenty more standard functions for getting the most of your system and not just blu-ray playback. You can access music, video, anything from the XMB using this, which is great if you don't like carrying your pad around the house. If I'm working at the dinner table whilst listening to music, I don't really like having my controller around when my hands are filthy from art equipment. I'm not suggesting this remote control is armoured against dirt, but it's ergonomical design is more appreciated than your expensive controller. It was also nice to see that Sony used the same design as our HDD-DVD recorder, with the indented finger tube and large buttons, not to mention a wipe-happy fascia for greasy fingers. It's perhaps a little longer than necessary, but this is just a small quibble for what is an essential purchase if you're serious about using your PS3 as a media hub and not just a blu-ray player.

Sony's Official Bluetooth Remote Control for the PS3 is a nice piece of kit, feels robust and is easy to set up. All you have to do is get the PS3 to discover the remote and then reset the PS3, then it's working. You press the PS button, and it's like having a PS3 controller in your hands. It's very easy to navigate the menus in the PS3 to get to the Blu-Ray or DVD, and is very simple to control the playback of the media. This is also great for controlling video playback, and music.Th reason why I say this isn't essential as the controller can do everything here - it just makes everything much more accessible on the remote. So if you don't have much spare cash,I would say save it and buy a game rather than put this higher on the priority list, as it's a good gadget to have, but it's not like it is so important you need it as you can't watch DVD or blu-ray media.Highly recommended for people who want to have easy and quick access to all the major features, but not essential, you can easily live without it, it's just nice to have if you have a few quid left.

I got this BD remote together with the PS3 itself and it works well as a remote for watching Blu-Ray movies. It's over bluetooth and it paired very easily and quickly with the PS3 itself, so no problems there. The nice thing about bluetooth is of course that you do not have to point the remote at a receiving port on the PS3 and nobody and nothing can be in the way of the receiving port, it simply will always interact with the PS3 as long as you're in range. The disadvantage is that you cannot replace this one with a universal remote.I had to re-pair once in about 4-5 weeks which again was quick and easy. However, ideally this should not be required at all. Also you cannot change the volume of any films on this remote, but I guess this is a general PS3 limitation - you will always need the TV remote for that.Overall, it works really quite well and if you want to use the BD drive on the PS3 you do not really have any alternatives. You can use the normal games controller but there's no fast-forward etc.

I didn't like the use of the joy pad controller for controlling playback of films, so I thought I'd give this a go.Firstly, this makes using the PS3 as a blu-ray player much easier and simpler. Even if you're not 'tech savvy', as they say, you will find this much like any other controller you're already use. There is a drawback, though. As others have said, this is not infra-red. It is bluetooth based. What does this mean? Well, the remote control does not depend on having "line of sight" (the PS3 does not need to be visible or particularly near by). This is also a benefit for some, so what's the problem? Well, the button that turns the PS3 on is very sensitive. You'll find that a slight knock/tap will end up turning on your PS3. Note also that the 'ON' button is not in the standard position you'll find on remote controls for normal DVD or Blu-ray players. All in all, I don't find this a problem. I wouldn't be without this remote now.

As some people have pointed out, this device enables a non believer (someone not used to PS3) enter the world of Blue-ray and DVD watching in a natural and direct way. That's probably the best reason to have it!Another reason to have it even if you are a player is to be able to handle yourself with the PS3 enjoying a media center experience. I have always hated trying to watch a DVD on the PS2/3 using the gamepads. It was horrible! Not remembering if the L1 was fast forwarding or chapter skipping made the interactive experience a mess. I could say it was as bad as watching a VHS movie.I do have to admit that the product has it's flaws. The main one I have noticed is the fact that it uses bluetooth to connect to the PS3.Bluetooth is very demanding in energy terms and the remote control uses batteries, no possibility to recharge it as it comes. I have read about low energy Bluetooth but I don't see any of that on this product's specs.

This is the official Blu-ray disc remote control for the PS3. Although you can control your movies using the dual-shock controller, it takes a while to get used to the buttons and an accidental nudge of the analogue stick or trigger button will find you jumping scenes and in all kinds of trouble! This little beauty stops those hassles, is beautifully made and extremely functional. It includes the PS button so you won't need your controller at all, apart from playing Call of Duty of course. Registering it with your PS3 takes a minute or two following easy on-screen instructions, but once done you're up and running. It is a great buy if you have non-gaming "olds" or a girlfriend/wife (or boyfriend/husband of course)who use the PS3 to watch movies or play music but don't have a clue about the good old square and triangle buttons.Loses one star as it has the annoying habit of turning the PS3 on with the accidental touch of any button!

the device is bluetooth, but unlike the controllers, it uses regular, not-rechargeable batteries... so you dont need to charge it, its just a remote like the other 20 you have around on the sofa.requires few seconds for ps3 pairing, works very well, range is good, can power up the ps3 (please note that ANY button powers the ps3 up, would love it was just the ps button..)i use it mainly to browse ps3ms movies on my server and for playtv.you CANT play games, even if you have the cross, square etc buttons they dont work for games, so no way to play sudoku from bed.construction quality is very good, could be a bit thinner (nothing dramatic). keys layout/feel is ok.as i often pair the controllers with the pc (motioninjoy),i really need this to watch movies without the need to repair controllers. plus, you dont accidentaly stop/ffw/frw movies no more.so, highly reccomended if you dont just play with your ps3.

While one can control the console even for playing back DVDs with the standard controller, the remote makes everything easier / faster, especially for the household members not primarily into gaming. Instead of having to figure out which button to use for what function, one simply plays back DVDs like one would on a more conventional DVD player, with all the main buttons there (subtitles, viewing angle, and of course the play, FF, rew, pause, etc.). It also has the main controller buttons so you can normally turn the console on and off from it.Another point, just like with every add-on, the integration is a doddle - you put in batteries, assign it and that's it - couldn't be easier. Were the console to come with the remote, I assume it would be slightly easier to sell as not only a gaming system to those, who would want it for the other uses (DVD playback, photos, music player, etc.).

This remote is a must if you want to make the PS3 a serious part of your living room.I purchased my PS3 solely to use as a Blu Ray player, so it was a no brainer to buy the remote. It is however a cheap move by Sony not to include it when they push the Blu Ray Player capabilities so much. The remote itself is sleek and feels well put together. Looks very much like my TV remote so isn't at all out of place in the living room. All the functions you could want are there, including an eject button. It works using bluetooth instead of IR so line of sight is not needed, and it works very well (unlike a lot of bluetooth things!) - why other manufacturers don't use this for their remotes is beyond me.The one negative is that it uses more battery power than IR so if you use it a lot you will get through the batteries quicker than with a normal remote, but not the end of the world.
