Originally released way back in 2005, this game was remastered in 2012 when it was given a fresh coat of paint and re-released with all of the associated DLC included. As with the rest of the Sniper Elite series, you play OSS Sniper Karl Fairburne, on this occasion caught between the opposing German and Russian forces in the final days of WWII in 1945 Berlin - your mission, to stop the German V2 rocket project by eliminating or abducting the scientists responsible for it and preventing the launch of a deadly nerve weapon.Game play and controls will be largely familiar with fans of the later games, and although there have been some slight development of the control system in the subsequent games, the principle of each level remains the same as you have to achieve a series of pre-set objectives of the "go there/kill this/blow up that/ collect this" variety, crouching and crawling your way through the ruins of the destroyed city and dropping head shots on enemy troops from a couple of hundred meters out.Visually this remastered edition has done an excellent job with a game that dates back to the original Xbox and PS2 consoles. It's not quite up to the same level of the likes of the third and forth games, but graphics and sound are of a level that it doesn't really feel like you're playing a game from two generations ago.The game isn't without some issues however. It's much more linear than the more recent games, and rather than giving you open ended sandbox style levels within which you can complete your objectives in whatever order and manner you wish, objectives are drip fed you in sequence and the game typically consists of you having to clear a number of pre-set areas before being allowed to proceed to the next one. Some other features have also not aged so well. Auto save points generally only occur once an area has been cleared and the objective there met, meaning that if you have, say, ten enemy soldiers to kill and only manage nine before getting killed yourself you'll frustratingly have to start the whole area and kill the lot of them again - something that is made especially difficult when you get rumbled by the enemy and have to fight them at close quarters, where the lack of a close combat insta-kill ability, the relative scarcity of ammo for your default secondary weapon, and the frailty of your character who is only able to take three or four hits before dying, can make the game merciless at times especially at higher difficult levels. The Thompson machine gun is your default secondary weapon, but as you only start with one full magazine and a reload and rarely obtain further ammunition for it (presumably in an attempt at realism as it would be unlikely you would find a cache of US ammunition in German or Russian territory), taking it into battle is a little pointless and you should look to replace it as soon as possible with a weapon obtained off the dead bodies of your enemies such as the German P40 or Russian PPSH41 for which ammo is much more readily available or simply tale a different weapon from the onset during load out.. Controls can also be a little clunky, especially the "empty lung" ability that is essential to successful sniping, which at times appears completely unresponsive.Despite some signs of showing it's age however, you still have here a pretty great and immersing game that provides hours of entertainment at a knock-down price, and the inclusion of four extra missions (such as the "Assassinate the Fuhrer DLC) provides it with extra longevity.7/10

I played the original game many years ago, and both my friend and I really enjoyed it. When this game was released I saw quite mixed reviews and lots of very negative ones, but it was only about 20 pounds and I loved the original so I thought I would just give it a chance. Now I am glad I did! It turned out even better than the first game. I think some of the negativity is due to issues on the console versions, but I play it on PC and it's great. The graphics are good, not up there with the huge budget games like Crysis etc, but still good looking and very detailed, and the atmosphere really draws you in to the grim WW2 locations. The main reason why I like this game so much though,is that it's all about gameplay. The design of the maps is brilliant, giving you quite a lot of freedom and multiple ways to reach your objectives. Sometimes it has you follow a journey that they have planned out to a T, and sometimes you get to wander through the rubble of bombed out buildings and make your own mind up how you are going to reach your target. The shooting is great, and better than most games because it takes more skill than just pointing and clicking. There are machine guns which work similarly to other games, and there is a silenced pistol for times when you dont want to sound alarms. The focus is on the sniper rifle though, and it's very satisfying. You need to make a good shot to kill your target, hitting them in the arms or legs or shoulders, often does little more than hurt them. To kill them you need a good body shot or head shot, and landing one of those takes some skill, especially if they are moving. At first it's hard to achieve these shots consistently, but the more you play, the better you get.The best part about it is the bullet drop though. Not only does it drop over distance, but it's also affected by wind. Most long range targets you have to shoot above their heads so the bullet hits them after it droops, and occasionally you will have to shoot a little to the left or right as well, so that the wind corrects the shot. After some practice I am now consistently dropping targets even as far as 250 yards away, with just 1 or 2 shots. It never gets boring either, unless you spend most of your time sneaking around with the pistol, then you will spend most of your time under fire, and it's quite easy to die. So killing someone who is trying to kill you, is always satisfying and a relief. So all in all, a good sniper game, but where it gets enough icing on the cake to make it "great", is when it comes to all the explosives and traps. There are trip mines, land mines, dynamite, grenades, and various other explosives you can use. You can play it like a traditional shooter, if you're lucky, but how you are 'meant' to play is by constantly looking for good sniper locations, heading all the way up there and lying down in the rubble to take out targets at very long range. But often this leaves you exposed from behind, so setting explosives behind you is a great way to protect you from bad guys sneaking up on you while you're busy sniping. There are also some missions where you find yourself under heavy attack and your only option is to hide in a building and set traps all over the place to protect yourself. The missions are very good and get better as the game goes on, and it's mostly this which has kept me hooked until the end.p.s. Oh, and there is co-op so you can play with friends!

Just like many others i've also played the demo to death, and the full game isn't any different, many a time i've started a level then soon realised that i could have done it "another way" and on the odd occasion i did actually restart the level, and because the game is so good i dont mind.U can use the sound's of bell's and tannoy system's to mask the sound of your rifle when your taking out a soldier (if u want to and if u time it correctly)( but there are lot's of other ways to take out an enemy soldier) or get up close and use the silenced pistol or a stealth kill if you can get close enough. The bullet cam can be configured to show less of the x-ray kills but to be honest i never get tiredof watching it as the sound of the bullet roaring from the sniper rifle and the panoramic view of the bullet also show's the beautiful detail of the stunning graphic's of all the destroyed buildings and the bombed out city. For me the levels are quite satifying,i take my time and try and plan where to go and who to take out first by using the binoculars and "tag" the enemy this will help out especially in dark situation's should thing's get a bit hectic and possibly loose site of the odd enemy soldier. If you do get attacked by the enemy they are very quite unforgiving and in some situation's you'll soon be switching to your Thompson smg to take out a small group. There are plenty of additional explodable items placed around the maps and zooming in to the tip of a bomb shell and firing at it will cause a decent explosion killing the surrounding soldier, the same can be said if you try and locate the granades hung of the odd enemy soldier, again zoom in and take the shot although this doesn't take out as many of the enemy.Laying booby traps is one of my favourite things to do,i often stealth kill an enemy pick up his body then drop the body in the path of some oncoming soldiers then either lay a trip wire in the door way for when they come running through (sometimes i place dynamite there aswell if the group is quite large) then when they notice that a guard has been killed the start looking for you and BOOOOM!!!! bye bye.The game is quite linear as it directs you a certain way but there seems to be another alternative (i'm only up to mission 4 or 5 can't remember now as i was up late playing this game lol)As i've already said the graphics (imo) are superb!!! (nvidia gtx 560 ti) the details are first class and i do not suffer from any stuttering or game freezes (pentium i5 2500k 4gb memory)I'm very happy with the game and do not regret buying it and i will definatley be going through all the mission's again on the sniper eilite setting (i'm playing on marksman at the minute and that mean's i get help with the marker of the bullet drop and i do not have to take the wind into account)i dont think this game would suit a "run and gun " type of player but for me who takes his time and stretches out every level this game is great.

Hey! I'm not a 'Call of Duty' guy, I can't stand close combat games and first person shooters are a bit of a yawn these days.So I bought Sniper Elite V2 on Steam as it looked interesting and was a third person shooter that rarely had me fighting up close and personal. Now Sniper Elite may not appeal to people who are after non stop carnage shooting all the way. It may not even be a perfect game when it comes to the physics involved in shooting. However for a slower, more measured shooter, this game for me can bearly be faulted. Graphically with my new GPU it looks stunning, missions are varied and you can approach missions in a variety of ways. The difficulty settings are well thought out and makes it fun for every skill level and also gives the game longevity. I've played it through but still keep going back to individual missions or at a higher skill level.A fully comprehensive set of stats are collected as you play the game which you can review at any time and it even has it's own achievement system which also varies from easy to extremely challenging! When you shoot an enemy you often get a cut scene that follows the bullet and 'peel's away' the targets exterior to see what damage you do to it, which I'll admit is nothing short of extremely graphic, so be careful if letting your children play this. The DLC which I received as part of the price I paid on steam included an added mission to kill Hitler, which after some practice I eventually managed.I haven't even begun to talk of the multiplayer. I don't 'do' deathmatch so I was extremely happy that the game had a co-op option where myself and a friend online could play the entire story together and also enter a few other game modes as well playing alongside each other. One piece of advice for anyone swayed by the mixed reviews for this game.... if you like a slower paced game which is a little different and a lot of fun then ignore the reviews as I personally think this is one of the best games I've bought in the last 12 months. Try it, you might like it!

Before I bought this game I was skeptical of the creator and of it being a let down of expectations being a sniper focused style of game. I could not be more wrong after playing it for only about 10 minutes. At first the controls and game play were new to me but once I got the concept it became very intuitive and smooth for my playing style. The campaign was a lot of fun and had some fairly challenging missions that, at times, needed a little of that tactical out of the box creative thinking to get passed certain parts or even survive. After the campaign I was very excited to dip into the multiplayer and see if it would be as good as single player and hopefully better, and it was that and more.It keeps the same aspect of survival and tactical creativity as the campaign and is influenced more so by the opponents being real players. At first I found myself being overwhelmed and taken out easily but after a week my experience of gaming kicked in and I really took off.All in all this is definitely worth $30 hands down...the Silver Star Edition is a must have as it includes a lot of cool stuff and extra weapons/side missions. This game is a refreshing change of pace from other first-person shooters such as BF and COD (BF is more awesome :D) and the patience it takes to be great on the online battlefield is something that makes you feel more...idk how to describe it but...fulfilled, as a gamer.I don't regret this purchase one bit...in fact this may be one of my favorite games of the past few years!

A sniper simulator for WW2 buffs. You're a special agent of tasking removing the V2 threat from Germany in Berlin during the last day of WWII on the Eastern front (1945). You'll face a series of tasks and during the constant fighting you utilize sniper rifles, ambush tactics, pistols and smgs to outsmart German and Soviet troops. The game's levels are limited and there's no free-roaming but the game does have good looking graphics and the bullet cam is amazing. The game is optimized well on the PC despite it has console like controls.Be warned, first time setup disables the use of PC mouse so you need to restart the game to restore functionality but then it works like a dream. The sounds and musical score are excellent and are nice to enjoy. The game's however short: 11 levels which allow 10-15 hours of gameplay at EASY setting. There is Normal and Sniper Elite difficulties aswell. The latter one is extremely hard because you have to focus the wind, gravity and distance with your rifle, not to mention that you can die with just 3 shots. There is regenerating health however. The smgs and pistols are very inaccurate so going tactical is the only choice and most of the rifles are bolt-action which makes the game challenging. The DLC is fairly priced which include levels with sniper rifles, in one mission you can go and assassinate Adolph Hitler. It's a fair shooter with some minor issues and glitches, I loved it since I'm a fan of WWII games.

I bought this for my boyfriends birthday from amazon at £22.99.(have since seen the original version for £15 elsewhere)This game is right down his alley. True to the original he says there are both good and bad differences, however he is yet to fully explore the game. The trailers and demo give you a good insite into the game. Bit disappointed the multi-player content appears to be only an online addition (not totally sure if this is true) however that's not why i bought it, and would have got it anyway. He got very overexcited you can pick your weapons before a level and so he can pick all the British options (and does).but annoyed you are "obviously" wearing allied forces uniform as opposed to being in German to avoid detection (as i believe you do in the first)also dead bodies tend to disappear. Some of the background detail is really nice but can vary depending on level...i'd say the demo shows it at its weakest that i've seen of the game so far)If you have not played the first game, its very much a game of stealth as you would expect from a sniper game. You have to creep into bases and plant bombs, or take out targets. No lock on shooting, lots of exploding guts. All i can say is if you think it looks like your kind of thing ..(and you have the patience, i certainly don't).. It almost certainly is for you, and well worth getting.

I loved it. It really reminded me of the original Medal Of Honour game in the way that it's laid out.Yes - It's linear. Despite there being open areas you can only ever go on one or two directions.Yes - It's scripted. (On the V2 level you always set off the alert on your third kill, no matter how stealthy you have been)Yes - There is the rooftop level where enemy snipers "pop up" from nowhere after you have already searched that area.Yes - It's not realistic. You have to stretch your imagination to believe you could take out a tank with a single bullet to the fuel tank, or fully recover from any wound in 5 seconds.... and despite that I couldn't get enough of it. It you are the kind of person who wants reality, this game is definitely not for you. However if you're the kind of person who enjoyed the early (WW2) Medal Of Honour series then I think you'd have a blast with this game. My only realy criticism was that it is fairly short. (I played it through in less than 30 hours) but I'm pretty sure we'll see some add-on missions in the future and the multi-player is popular. My best advice - Try the demo...it pretty much sums up the whole feel of the single-player game.

i love this game even tho b4 i got it it had bad reviews but i love sniper games so decided to make my own mind up ad bought it. this game gives you the most realistic sniper gameplay and satisfaction when making a kill yes its quite easy ontthe low level but once you,ve completed on easy you realise that you can do it better and soon then realise all the diff. ways and more economical ways of killing those pesky nazis. i have spent more time just playing this than any other game as you can find all the bottles and gold bars and it has xfactor and wow did u c that factor. i would say for me this is a must have game and one of the most enjoyable rewarding feel gd games i av played ive nearly completed everything on it now soo glad the new one is coming.i gave it 4* only due to the fact theres always something you can do to make it better. not sure what the difference is between the normal version and the goty version and if it would b worth me getting ...

My first venture into a shoot 'em up computer game and I am delighted with this one. Once I mastered the controls and achieved teenage dexterity in my sixty year old fingers, the stop start failures evolved into smooth game progression. Playing the same missions over the gameplay variety and versatility can be fully appreciated. There is some repeated predictability but enough left and right field changes to keep the edge. Not sure I really need the highly graphic anatomical detail of the hits. Being a biologist they could not possibly shock or surprise me but I do wonder about the effect on less enlightened souls. On the other hand, it is a bit satisfying to watch the disintegrating skull of an enemy that has been irritatingly difficult to pin down!A perfect antithesis the battleground of daily life and a brilliant way to unwind.

The game has ported well, I'm happy to say. The graphical fidelity leaves something to be desired however, having also seen the PS4 remaster, it is not too far away (possibly closer to the original graphics).I was surprised by how much fun the multiplayer was - a simple snipe-off - and the thought of being able to play on-the-go tethered to mobile was a great feeling! I was playing on the TV but I did go to handheld, which was really fun. The only problem is the lack of any established online community for this game; finding a server is very hard, most often there are none. Other than the obvious Nintendo-published games, I suspect this is the case across many online games on Switch.I'm impressed.Looking forward to Sniper Elite 3!

As like most people I played the demo to death but once the fully game was out I played each level and had tons of fun. I have read the other reviews and most of them say how rubbish it is, all I can say is they must have under powered computers because I have had no problems with this game. the graphics was the best I have seen even at the medium setting also the sound was great. I will admit the stealth kill did not always work but it's still a great game better then the first game with the same name. If you are having problems look at your PC System specs that is most likely the problem.Any one who says it a rubbish game has no idea what they are talking about and should never play thirdperson games ever again.

I got this on Amazon for £20, which is,nt too bad as STEAM were charging £29.99. and I would have been dissapointed if I had payed that much, but you still have to play it through a STEAM account. The game play is pretty good but I am having trouble with the game freezing on the sniper mode, I hope STEAM sort this problem out soon. I have all the other shooter games( cod 1 2 3 4 and many other fast games) I dont have any trouble with them freezing, so i think it must be STEAM. My only other gripe is, I am finding it hard to find the gold bars in the gameplay, and finding a wine bottle is vertually impossible, these are supposed to give you extra points, finding them is ridiculously hard.

Sent for on June 28,2012,they said it won't be here until July 26-August 6,2012,product was received on July 6,2012.To run this MONSTER,you HAVE TO HAVE a good high speed Internet connection.Connection speed Has to be over 512kps,faster IS better, since just about ALL CUT SCENES are being handled by STEAM,even if it's on your hard drive. This is A LOT BETTER than "SNIPER-GHOST WARRIOR"!!!True you are traveling down a basic path of destruction, but you can move around much more freely, instead of getting killed off quickly because your not thinking and doing things, like "ghost warrior" wants you to play.I JUST WISH THEY UPDATE SNIPER ELITE V1 TO THIS LEVEL OF PLAY!!!!

10.5.2014

Ignore my earlier review. It was obviously based on my being crap! The elite level can obviously be completed, if I managed to do it!Negative points: AI is a bit iffy. At one point I left 2 trip mines, before reaching the point where objective is achieved. After changing objective both worked but then I was clobbered and on re-spawn the trip mines had no effect on the same advancing enemy.Positive points: One thing I really liked was that after leaving trip mines or land mines you could pass through them without being killed, unlike Version 1. In the real world the sniper would know where he had left his own traps and therefore step over or around them.
