I purchased this game for my 8 year old son - he had never shown an interest in Skylanders - but he really enjoys games with various characters with various powers (hes a big lover of the lego games) and loves dragons. I hit the nail on the head and he loved it, was right up his street. We did however buy a further 9 figures and another 3 traps so that he didn't get annoyed with not being able to complete parts of the games. Here is what I wish I knew prior to purchasing it -1. The blue figure that is included Snap Shot is a "Trap Master" - I was unaware that certain characters were more powerful and were the only ones that could access certain portals and so he only got the one with the set.It is worth I think investing in a couple of different Trap Masters, rather than getting loads of cheap smaller figures. From what I can tell there is one Trap Master per element.2. To have access to the bad guys that you defeat and trap you need at least one of each "element" of trap. The game comes with life & water. There is also tech, magic, earth, undead, air & kaos. Kaos is for one character only and is hard to come across and is quite expensive, even second hand on ebay.3. The set comes with a tray that has loads of character names and an element symbol for you to place and store your traps - in the game when you defeat a character and trap them you can access them in a locked area in the main part of the game. You can swap the character in the trap and play them during game play, but you can only change them at this location, so you cannot change them. You can however get around this by getting more than one trap of the same element. There are different design tops, ie some are wings, a face or a sword, so there is a collectable element to the traps as well.There is also a few other details worth knowing -4 Its worth having at least one figure from each element - some characters work better in different locations.5. The figures are compatible with other platforms - so you can use the figures on a ps4 and then use it on a Wii for example. You just need the game disc & portal.6. Characters from Spyros Adventure, Giants & Swap Force will all work on this game along with trap team figures - superchargers for example will not work because it is a newer game.The things that I see that I think have been thought out and are a good way of incorporating the figures in the game are that the transition between characters is smooth, the graphics are good and when you are playing with a trap in game play the trapped character yells from the portal and then the sound of their voice slowly fades out and fades into your tv speakers. Its a really clever way of making it seem as if they are actually in that little trap. The characters are varied, I think it would be ideal for boys or girls.My main issue with it is the cost - I purchased this just as superchargers came up - currently many superchargers are selling for around 25.00 each, which seems ridiculous to me. I do like that you can carry on using the figures, but it is such a costly game. This is slightly better than the previous versions in that you do get "free" characters when you trap a bad guy - but you have to buy the trap to get the character - so its not exactly free. Even buying it a lower price after buying the characters we've spent a fortune - have a look on ebay for bundles of the figures because they work second hand and its significantly cheaper.Overall, if your children like games like lego and like pokemon it would be an ideal game for you - but be prepared for it to cost a lot, even if you do buy it second hand. My son loves it, hes been engrossed in it since he got it and is now saying all he wants for his birthday is Skylanders. I'm happy just to see him getting excited about something new (and not lego!)

A new game in the Skylanders series.This edition has a new play portal (the thing you stand the toys on), which has the addition of a slot for 'keys' which add a new element over previous game instalments. In the starter pack you get the game disk, the trap portal, two keys, and two play characters, one of which is a Trap Master - allowing it to do some things other characters can't do.You can play as a single player, or add a controller for two players, who then collaborate on the same screen - this is interesting, as they can't be too far apart at any time.The main new things here... You can catch the villains in your traps - putting them into the element themed keys (so you need more of these to do everything in the game).Also, once you have caught a baddie, you have the option to switch to playing as them too. Fun, for sure, and there are likely to be areas of the game where this helps (not found by us yet, but it is early days).Characters from previous game instalments (all series) work with this one. They can't do all the things the new ones do, but more than enough to make them worth using, and adding life to any prior investment in the series.Of course, to get to all those hard to reach areas and catch everything, you will need to buy more characters, so there's a potential ongoing expense, but by now most people buying this know that?As a family we are recent additions to the players of these - our daughter is five, and just becoming interested in games like this.We'd originally not bought Skylanders as we'd got Disney Infinity, and assumed they were similar. They both have the collecting element, and characters placed on a play area, but actually, the games are quite different, as is the two player experience - the Disney game uses split screen. Both are enjoyable, and both new games are backward compatible with old characters.We bought ours for PS4, it looks good, but I doubt it's much different to any other version, with clean simple, but effective graphics throughout. A fun game, and one which will last a bit longer with the ongoing characters added with pocket money in the coming months.

OK, I was originally introduced to Skylanders by two of my nephews, who have been playing it for quite some time. I was fascinated by the way that you could get extra characters and put them on the “portal” and voila, there’s your new guy on screen. Wow. Multiple characters for masses of playthrough and whilst I’ve been the sort of gamer that tends to wait for prices to go down on a few things, this was something I got into very quickly. So when my nephew (way back in March) started telling me about Skylanders Trap Team I became very excited as I loved the idea of being able to capture the villains and then play through with them.Its definitely something quirky,something that has a lot of playtime behind it but my one major gripe is that with each new set you have to buy a new portal (which whilst back compatible seems unfair when you’ve had to buy them for each release.) All round I had a lot of fun with this game and to be honest when my nephews saw that I had it, Uncle Gareth was the best thing since sliced bread.Nephew (7) review:I really, really, really like this game. It’s the best present I’ve had for ages. Daddy and Uncle Gareth showed me how to play it and they wanted to play it but I beat them and play it all the time. I love the bad guys even though I shouldn’t but the good guys are better Daddy says. The bad guys go into the trap key and I caught both of them. I love this game and there is no way my Daddy and Uncle Gareth will be able to play. Me and Benni with play!!!!!! Hope Santa brings me more keys and good guys to play with.

I bought this for my son as a Christmas present and he loves it.It is the standard starter kit for the Xbox 360 and contains three characters and three traps plus the game disc. As other reviewers have noted this is just the beginning of it as there are seemingly dozens of extra characters and traps you can buy and my son now has a whole box of them here. The game it seems cannot be completed without some of these extra characters, a fact that Skylanders do not advertise and which my son didn't tell me about! It loses a star for that reason ...On the other hand the game is hilarious as you listen to the big villains give a huge monologue about how weak you are and how string they are...until you trap them whereupon they utter phrases such as "let me go,I'll be good". Great game for younger gamers out there who enjoy the XBox (or other platforms).

Great game and son is loving it. Skylanders from previous games (Giants, swap force, Spyro's adventures) are playable on this, which is fab. Only reason I haven't given it 5 stars is because it has cost us a small fortune to buy all the "traps" needed - they're not even that cheap second hand. You really only need 8 main ones, for the elements, and then the Kaos one (which is about £20, even 'used' - we haven't bought that one yet) but there are loads of types and variations for particular characters. Best just to stick to the element traps and hide the fact there are about 40 you could possibly buy

I searched for this game as: skylander Xbox one. The search showed me this box set, which I quickly ordered and gift wrapped. However, when he unwrapped it on his birthday, he was gutted to see it was the wrong one. Mum fail! This game no longer exists for Xbox one, so be warned to check what appears on-screen when u search for something specific. I didn’t. I won’t make that mistake again. 4 stars are because the product looks great. But useless as we have a different console. Can’t return it as it was opened and now have a heart broken 11 year old.

Dear all,The new SKYLANDER landers trap team is the best out of all the games. Not only does it keep all old charters but adds new as well. It also introduces a new fun concept, traptanium cystals, these are used to trap villains and allows you to play the, afterwards. This adds a new level of excitement and interest. However, it also adds another price tag to the game and will make you to spend more. But as long as you have one of each element it will see you though the game.

Bought this for my 8 years old nephew, he is a big fan of Xbox and his wish was to have Skylanders game in his collection. The box was nicely wrapped and sealed, had the platform and the 2 warriors included which can be connected to Xbox (didn't even know that you can do that) . Important is that my nephew loved it, the game was working perfectly and he is happy. Thanks

Great product as usual. Great for kids. The only downside is that they are becoming greedy. Basically you have to buy the new trap masters to open the gates during the missions. None off the normal, giants or swap opens them. They only work for playing with a differente character.

Gosh this was hard to get at an acceptable price for Christmas within a budget, son extremely pleased as didn't expect to get it lowest price I found it here as not in many deals due to being a new game. Sam format as before but a little more to it and good to play

The price went up from £36 to £49 the day I went to buy it. So went to ASDA £37 free Delivery. Its gone back to £36 on Amazon now, to late. My Grandson (6) has all the Skylander sets, so trap he tells me will be the best. Its a nice family, funny friendly game.

Bought as a birthday present for Grandson (7) who has been playing the game ever since he got it, so you can be sure he likes it. My only concern would be the number and cost of extras, not anything that would bother my grandson, but might bother his parents.

My son really likes this, but says he would like to have had more figures and traps to start with, mainly because the game actually asks for more of these to be used very early in the game play. Guess who's gonna end up spending a lot more money on this ?

Fantastic, best skylanders game yet!! The addition of the new trap element is excellent. My son loves this!! Having a great time playing co-op together. Now we just got finish the game on nightmare difficulty and without a kaos trap!!!

My grandson wanted this for his birthday. Good product but I think they are very over priced for what they are. Very easily broken aswell because the figures have fragile sticky out parts which snap if crammed into a box etc
