It is sadly no real surprise that Aklaim lasted only marginally longer than the hype around this game. Other reviews on Amazon some up this game well enough but are very much from one or other point of view.In reality this is no great game, it is quite buggy (ok very buggy), a bit slow and quite straight forward to master. The initial challenge the game offers quickly disappear leaving you to be able to pretty much beat the hell out of however you want, as whoever you want.In the last statement lies this games saving grace, if like me you grew up watching what was then WWF and WCW and miss the likes of the British Bulldog,Bret Hart and The Ulimate Warrior and co - then you will love this game because it brings together pretty much everyone you could want on one title. At the time wrestling games on the Mega Drive right through to the Gameboy really offered nothing you could see describe as authentic to the stars of the time. With Showdown you can choose not only your wrestler but also a choice of costumes, often from various times in their career. Finishing moves are all captured here too but are performed by simply pressing one button as your opponent is on the way out and need no practice to master. You've then got a few venues, including Wembley Stadium amongst others which all add to the spectacle. The match types are a nice feature, ladders, tables and cages are all available but don't change the gameplay much. You can use weapons too but as stated earlier the game is easy enough to win handsomely with or without them.If you want a good wrestling game then there are plenty better than this, but if it is a rather nostalgic look back at the glory that was the wrestling of the 80's and 90's then this will be the title for you. More on offer than any other 'Legends' title, and with no more Aklaim this will be the last of the series so we sadly can wait for nothing better.

when i bought this game on ps2 in 2004 i was so excited about playing it and yes it turned out to be amazing from an old school fans point of view the nostalgia was something speical , the game modes wernt great but the cast of characters where immense and costume selections brilliant along with ability to create others great legends in a super creation mode , presentation is very retro which i love and the game has all the famous stadiums and arenas that played a big part in the glory years from the small settings of memphis wrestling to the big time of the silverdome , the logos from famous wwf events are captured in style but not spelling as eg. it could be showdown in style of wrestlemania ,there are a few notable wrestlers missing but can easily be made in create a legend mode, gsmeplay wise the game is a bit slow but that kind of helps capture a bit of reality of that time , its a love or hate game really eg. if your a hardcore gamer but not that big into wrestling just a casual fan you will probably hate this but if you are a old school wrestling fan and love the games youll love this one, i still play it as a nice alternative to wwe legends , wwe all stars and wwe 12 , it does stand the test of time !!

This is wrestling at its old best. After the last 2 previous attempts Aklaim have struck gold. In this game you will find over 70 of the greatest wrestlers of all time, from Andre the Giant to Scott Steiner and they are all here with finish moves and taunts even theme tunes are pretty damm good. Game play is good with easy to control moves and counters and graphics like watching on telly. Lots of modes mean hours of fun with different matches and costumes. Another great feature is the commentary by Tony Schivone, Bobby Heenan which actually follows the action on screen. If you enjoyed wrestling in the 80s and 90s then you will love this, you may even find yourself dusting off the old vids and watching them again.

I really enjoyed this game it is nice to have all the old time wrestlers to play with(though STILL no ax or smash) and the slower pace is a nice change from the frenetic pace of the smackdown series. The graphics and sounds are reallyt well done and I enjoyed going through the decades, seeing all the wrestlers chabge with the years was a nice move, commentary could be a bit better but as it is done by Bobby the brain Heenan who can moan he is always nice to listen to I miss him on modern WWE.All in all i wasnt dissapointed and I dont think you will be either

Not in the same league as the THQ WWE games but if you watched wrestling in the 80's you will want to play this almost every wrestling star of the 70's and 80,s is here to play Hogan,Savage,Ultimate Warrior and more no WWE game has had as many Legends in one game.
