I am very pleased and impressed with this Shark cordless upright. Even though it’s relatively expensive I think it’s worth it. I’ve reviewed much cheaper products from famous names that have failed within months and not performed well at all. Here’s what I really like about it:Ease of use. Over carpets it just glides with almost no resistance. I wouldn’t describe it as lightweight which makes this all the more surprising. Despite there being lots of features and ways to use it, it’s all very simple and intuitive. All of the switches and buttons are labelled with what they do e.g. ‘lift away’, ‘hose release’, ‘wand release’ and ‘lift to release battery’. Everything detaches and reattaches very smoothly. It is also very easy to empty with two switches, although this is the only operation that I had to properly look up in the instructions. There is slight effort required to angle the Shark when floor-cleaning begins which involves placing a foot on the base and just pulling the shaft and handle forward. There is even a foot icon which shows the best foot position. There are settings for carpet and hard floor which I’ve tested in the kitchen but I have to say that I’m still trying to work out what this changes, I guess it's brushes.Power. It’s a lot more powerful than I expected. The suction, in all of its modes, is very good indeed. It has a boost button which when held pressed is even better, but it’s so good in normal use that I’ve not needed this feature much. I suspect that the power, in the case of the floor sweeper, is enhanced by the duo-clean double brush which is designed to collect both large and small particles.Noise: It’s very quiet in normal use. It just hums and doesn’t sound powerful or like a vacuum at all. I find noisy vacuums tiring and this isn’t noisy. The boost feature makes more noise but that is only for brief use and still isn’t too loud.Versatility: This is where the Shark really shines but it certainly doesn’t sacrifice anything in achieving this. Were it just an upright I’d still be very pleased. Its modular design means that it can be used in a variety of ways. The wand can be detached from further down the shaft and can then receive various attachments. The handle can also be detached from the top of the wand to also receive attachments and used in a similar way, minus the wand. But its best trick is the lift-away feature whereby the main unit (battery, motor, filter & dirt) can be detached and carried, both connected and totally disconnected from the floor unit. When still connected it can be positioned on the floor in order to make the floor sweeper even easier to use, without the weight and bulk of the lift-away. When fully disconnected it can be carried and used in wand or handle-only mode without the sweeper. I’ve used all configurations and they all work well and are useful.Battery: I’m commenting on this separately as I’m very pleased with the battery. It has its own charging cradle and being more-or-less a cylinder is very easy to lift from the body. The battery has three large, white LEDs which show the charging level and these are always lit while the Shark is in use or the battery charging. They are very visible when using the Shark. Battery life could of course be better and if I was using the Shark to clean the whole house in one go I’d probably want to invest in a second battery, as a charge only lasts between 30 and 45 minutes I think (50 is claimed). It also takes quite a while to charge from empty to full, several hours, but that’s to be expected. The Shark can also be charged without removing the battery but I find using the cradle much more interesting! Here’s what I don’t like about it:Nothing. It’s that good.Overall this as an absolute quality cordless upright and would be 10/10. The handle and switches feel quality and the rest of the Shark is no different. In fact I just felt from the unboxing that it was going to be good. It has lots of features and all of them are excellent. I'd even go as far to say that this is the most impressive technology product I've ever used.

Before this Shark arrived, I used a Dyson Animal cordless and Roomba robot vacuum. To review the Shark I completely vacuumed the front room (floor, upholstery, curtains, dog bed) and did the stairs. I am now giving the Dyson away and keeping the Roomba for in-between maintenance of main thoroughfares with this new Shark being the main machine. Despite the expense, I would definitely recommend it.Overall, I find the design to be much more holistic than my previous machines. The focus isn’t just on the bagless aspect, the whole thing works seamlessly. Moving between modes isn’t a struggle, and neither is attaching or removing tools. Ejecting muck is relatively simple, you just pull out the dust cup from the centre of the vacuum pod (sits on the front) and then press a button to release the bottom. It’s a small part of the front bit, so not unwieldly and it fits back together securely. I still lust after the idea of a slider in the dust part of a vacuum that I’ve seen on other brands, but there is enough room in this dust cup for the muck to fall out quite easily and not get stuck.Everything clips together and comes apart easily so I can use the machine as a cordless upright and transition to using the wand without it being a big hassle mid job. The lift-away idea is genius; I can use the main upright, then lift-away the vacuum pod to make the machine slim enough to glide under the coffee table but still functioning as the main upright, then remove the vacuum from the main floor cleaner altogether to use the wand. The handle comes away from the wand too, and I’ve found this to be my preferred way of doing the stairs. So, essentially, it is 4 types/sizes of cleaner in one.The included tools are great. Standard crevice tool and dusting brush are there, with a wide upholstery tool and motorised pet tool. All of this works well. The pet tool in particular is effective as it is motorised the brush rotates and helps to pull all the pesky embedded hairs into the machine. I did the dog bed and it looked brand new afterwards. When you use the lift-away function a boost comes on which is also handy for this type of job. The handle of the Shark has a button to select boost, floor or carpet. All work as you would want them to.In particular, I love how quiet the machine is in upright floor mode (boost is a little noisier as you’d expect), and how unobtrusive it is. Charging does not require wall space or masses of room due to the small charging cradle (although you can charge it in the machine too) and it has an indicator so running out of power when vacuuming isn’t a surprise. I think I will buy another battery so that I’ve always got power available. This is hands down better than my previous vacuum. If I’ve helped you to make a decision, please leave me a helpful vote ?

I've been rather sceptical of battery-powered cleaners. Firstly, can they really be as effective as the plug in variety? And secondly, my Dyson is 8 years, going strong and has cost nothing extra - how long will a battery last in this kind of cleaner, and how much will a new one cost?So the first question is easy. It is definitely as good as my plug-in Dyson Animal. And it has some considerable advantages. It is clearly a quality product. On opening the box, I was a little overwhelmed at all the bits but it went together dead easily and everything snapped perfectly into place, giving an extremely good first impression. The vacuuming showed that it easily picks up as much as the Dyson, but the Shark is better on hard floors. Most of my house is carpeted and the amount of cat hair sucked up was impressive. However, it absolutely beats my Dyson for stairs, furniture and so on. Two clicks and you have a portable unit, light-weight and easy to manoeuvre and afterwards it clicks back together again just as quickly. The portable pet head was *much* better than the one that came with my Dyson. It was also easy to find the tool I was looking for, thanks to the nice touch of Shark providing a sturdy bag to keep all these bits and pieces in. My Dyson tools always seem to go walkabout. It used well under a third of its battery power vacuuming every inch of my small family home (which houses 3 cats). Also, the Shark comfortably wins when emptying the bin. The hassle of fishing out the clumps of pet hair by hand around the Dyson's cyclone thing are no more. Position the Shark bin over the dustbin, press the button - and it's all gone without fuss. So, there's no question I'd choose this over my Dyson. It surprised me just how much more convenient cleaning is without a cord to take into account and dodge round, pick up/untangle. The Dyson sits unloved in the cupboard (I won't be buying Dyson again anyway) and the Shark takes the spotlight. But that's for now, and on to my second question. As it's new, I can't find a price on a new battery for this cleaner. The one provided is guaranteed for 2 years. But 2-3 years, depending on use, is a likely life span and the only Shark battery on Amazon (different model) costs £80. If I've got the money, I'll probably buy the next battery. But the truth is, I'm hanging on to the Dyson just in case.

Well I have tried about 4 different cordless vacuums over the last 6 years, most recently a very expensive AEG model sent to me to review by Amazon. I received this item to review and was able to pit it directly against the £390 AEG model I had previously been sent. One of the issues with the AEG was that while it picked up dust and generally vacuumed carpets well, when it came to solid debris such as biscuit crumbs (yes we have kids!) it picked them up then promptly spit them out again. No such problem here, the suction is noticeably stronger on this Shark model. Another issue with the AEG was that when you used the bear pipe/wand, suction was really weak - virtually useless even on the max power setting.Again, the Shark wins, because when you use the pipe, wand or other accessories, strong suction is maintained at all times - the strength of suction is more or less on a par with our mains operated Sebo which has been our benchmark for comparing cordless vacuums against. So, suction/power: EXCELLENT. In terms of user friendliness, it is another big thumbs up - I LOVE the fact that all the buttons/catches etc are labelled with words telling you what their purpose is - this means you need the manual much less than with other models - it just becomes so much more intuitive. Battery power is excellent and I like the fact you can lift the battery out and charge it on the charger separately. Overall this vacuum is very flexible - there are lots of supplied accessories (ahem, AEG are you listening - SUPPLIED, not optional extras !!), and the wand works really well. Build quality seems solid and fit and fit and finish very good. Have tried this on both carpets and wood/laminate and works great on both. Slightly heavier than some other models/brands, but worth it for the excellent suction and long lasting battery. An added bonus is that the dust compartment is larger than on some competitor models. So far, out of 5 different cordless vacuums I have tried, including £400 ones, this is the best in terms of power and versatility. Highly recommended !

I am very impressed with this Shark vacuum. I had heard good things but had never tried or owned one before.I have been using a Dyson V7 Moterhead cordless vacuum and I do like it. But was intrigued to find out if the hype for the Shark was warranted. On the whole I would say it is.There has been an awful lot of thought went into the design of this product.I like how there are lots of different ways to use it. It’s like a “Transformer”!It can be quite bulky when used as an upright compared to the Dyson but with the “lift away” options this negates that. You can charge the battery while it’s attached to the vacuum or remove the battery and place it on a remote charger.Once fully charged Sharkclaim a 50 minute run time and although I haven’t measured the time exactly I do believe in practice that it’s around that time. Obviously if you use the boost function more it will be slightly less. The floorhead has led lights to illuminate the floor so you can spot the debris better. It’s suitable for all floor coverings and is very good at removing large and small particles. It’s a breeze cleaning on the stairs and under furniture and for reaching hard to reach places like ceilings or tops of curtains etc. It’s great for lifting pet hair with the pet tool attached. It’s excellent for cleaning the car.Shark claim that the filters capture and hold 99.97% of dust and allergens which is great if you have dust allergies.Hopefully it will stand the test of time and Shark must be fairly confident of this as the product comes with a 5yr guaranteed .An excellent product that is giving Dysons a run for their money.

I think I’m slightly in love with my new SHARK!It is a dream to use.I think the designer of this machine is a genius, all the details have been designed to make this vacuum as easy to use as possible. You can use as a regular upright vacuum, or as a hand held. I use as a hand held with the pet hair head to vacuum the stairs and it makes the job a dawdle! Cleaning the car was easy too - accessories for the rugs and crevices. When being used as an upright it is easy to manoeuvre, it swivels to make corners easy to clean. The accessories are all useful and can be stored in the provided fabric bag which is handy for storage. There is a double set of lights - which helps you spot any debris. The battery can be charged in the holder, unobtrusively. One battery charge lasts about 50 minutes, I would suggest slightly less if you use the boost function. There is a light on the battery to indicate battery life. The battery is easy to remove and replace back into the vacuum. The vacuum can be used on hard floors and carpets - the head can be changed from the switch on the handle. I’m very impressed with the cleaning and the amount of dust and dirt removed from what looked like a clean carpet.Everything is easy to use, from emptying, to changing accessories and switching between upright and handheld. The SHARK looks good - I’ve got the red one which I think looks very smart.I honestly think this is the best vacuum I’ve ever used - I cannot sing it’s praises highly enough.Very highly recommend.

Owned top of the range Dysons for years in the belief super high power was required at all costs. However, over time I have questioned the need to lug a heavy hoover about the house, especially the stairs and emptying the large capacity dust container was dreaded by the whole family. Looked at the cordless Dysons and spotted that for over £500 the batteries can't be renewed! The Shark has replaceable batteries which are covered for 2 years, it is light and balanced in my hands, intuitive and easy to use, its almost fun. I have a dog and the motorised attachment is better than my old Dyson one. The small dust container is big enough for one hoovering session but SO simple to empty in seconds. All this said, I do recommend waiting for a flash sale so you can buy a second battery. I got mine from Currys but then found Amazon had a flash sale, £100 off, Currys refunded the difference and this covered the cost of a second battery from Amazon. This way, one is in charging cradle and one in machine. Never have to worry about it not being charged. If I needed something hardier because I did alot of DIY etc, I would not hesitate to buy one of the corded models. This brand takes hoovering a long way from dragging heavy awkward machines about, its a pleasure ?

Having using Miele cleaners for years, I was sceptical that this Shark cleaner would be any good at all. In fact, it's surprisingly good and far better than I could have expected.First things you notice are how quiet it is, and how lightweight the whole unit is. Being able to lift-off the main section to do staircases is just superb - the supplied pet tool atachment is especially good on staircase carpets. When re-attached to the main hoover which has a powered rotating brush, it's remarkable how much extra fluff, hair, and dust the Shark has beaten out of my carpets. Each room has generated a full bin's worth of bits, even though I'm a bit house-proud already. There is only one small downside to the Shark, and that's its battery life. I use the boost function all the time rather than just the normal mode, and with boost you get about 25 mins of run-time before the battery is flat - a full recharge takes 3.5 hrs. Perhaps if Shark had given us the option to switch off the LED lights at the front of the hoover that might prolong the battery a little more. Given how efficient it is though, 25 mins still let's you get most of a 4 bed house hoovered. An easy 4-5 star overall.

Really impressed with this cordless vacuum. My in-laws bought one and we read the reviews and listened to their feedback and ordered one a few weeks after they did. Cordless is the way forward, but this machine doesn't compromise on power to be able to be convenient. The normal carpet/floor functions both work well as does the stairs attachment (which I also used to clean cat hair off curtains successfully too!). You'll be shocked at how much dirt is picked up when you first switch to using this from an older vacuum! It's so easy to use every day and the detachable battery just slips into the charger and is no fuss at all. We've not had any problems with running out of charge and it's very easy to empty the dirt out too.All in all, it is expensive but is a really sleek piece of kit which does exactly what it says and I highly recommend you give it a go!

My 10 year old trusted Dyson packed in and with two Persian furbabies I share a home with I needed a vacuum and fast. My partner talked me into a cordless and I was considering another Dyson. But something made me look more into what I was considering and the cordless stick Dyson just didn't ring any bells. I studied the Shark and it ticked all the boxes. Cordless, accessing underneath furniture easily, lightweight and super suction. It feels like an upright which is what I wanted and the tools are simple to connect and are very effective on curtains and sofas etc. I also like the fact that the tool for pet hair has a rotating head rather relying purely on suction. All in all I am delighted with my purchase and I might even persuade "him indoors" to share in the chores, now there is no electrical cord to deal with!

Fantastic Hoover. If you like intelligence puzzles you will also get a buzz from using it. To change heads, empty the filter and turn it into a hand held requires a mild degree of mental dexterity. This is no complaint but I'm not sure anyone with arthritis could cope easily. There is a huge array of choices to us most of which I don't because the basic Hoover is just so good. A slight niggle is that I wished the boost button would latch rather than having to be held. Not the lightest but feels solid and well made. Lots of nice touches for taking apart and cleaning. Once you get used to all the buttons and latches this unit is superb.Great battery life also ,no need for 2 unless you live in a mansion.

When I started assembling this I realised I definitely needed to use the instructions (which were very easy to follow) as there are so many interlinked parts.Once I had charged the battery I was ready to go. The lightness of the vacuum cleaner is quite deceiving as when I used it on our lounge rug I thought it hadn't picked up much, until I inspected both the rug and the vacuum cleaner that is!I can see now why people rave about Shark vacuum cleaners - they are brilliant! The only downside is the cost - vacuum cl3aners only seem to last a couple of years in our house (although that may well be because we buy cheaper brands!)So I wouldn't fork out north of 3 hundred pounds for one personally.

I can’t believe how fantastic this Hoover is! A friend recommended this to me and for the price thought it’s a lot of money for a Hoover as I already have a decently named one. After carefully reading the instructions and charging the battery I set about hoovering the house top to bottom. I couldn’t believe the dust it collected and how easy it is to operate. I’ve had good make hoovers before but this definitely beats them all. Don’t let the price put you off, yes it’s expensive but no more trailing leads and sockets to find, no more lugging a heavy Hoover upstairs, then down. It’s worth every penny

5.1.2020

This is perfect. Someone has thought long and hard about the design of this Hoover. Our old dyson V6 is worse in every way.Our biggest regret is we wish we got 2 batteries because we now actually hoover more...Very pleased as it is versatile and generally great. It has headlights that work very well on hard floors. The bin is very easy to remove and empty. Stairs are covered with the cleaner disconnected from the main pole. The battery has an indicator on the top for how much power is left and many other bits that have made us very pleased with our choice

14.3.2019

Opening the box there seem to be about 500 pieces (I may be exaggerating) to fit together, which, as I'm not very practical, gave me some cause for concern. However, as I looked at it and checked the instructions, it turned out to be surprisingly easy. The battery charges up quite quickly which is a help.As another reviewer has mentioned, it's great for cat hair. But don't take their word, take mine -I have eight. If it can get up cat hair, it can get up anything. It moves smoothly and the various add-ons are all good, Forget Dyson, Shark is the one.
