Now here's a thing I've never seen before! A speaker in a lightbulb. I had lots of questions before I tried it, so here's some answers!Q: How does it work?A: The music part works exactly like a bluetooth speaker. You pair it as a "headset" and you play music to it in any app. Even youtube. The bulb part needs the dedicated app, although if you never had that it's no big issue because you can still use your usual physical light switch - more on that later.Q: How do you pair?A: It seems that it's always in pair mode if it's not actively connected. So, you don't have to get the stepladder out every time, fortunately! However see my security comment below!!Q: How does it sound?A: Not as bad as you'd imagine.Initially I put it in an upright lampshade, and it sounded fairly tinny. However if you put it in a ceiling fitting, I guess due to the dynamics of the sound bouncing off the ceiling, it sounds pretty good, especially in classical or jazz music. For pop, it struggled somewhat to be "punchy" enough with the lacking bass. The high range tones are very clear basically. It's also very loud!Q: Can more than one phone control it?A: In my experience, mostly no, sometimes yes. The bulb and music are (I think) separate bluetooth devices, so I found that on one occasion I was able to control the bulb (on/off) when another phone was playing music. However later that wasn't the case, and I had to disconnect one device to control another. Bottom line - you can PAIR to at least two devices (so that they auto connect, for example), but you may not be able to simultaneously CONNECT with two devices.Q: What happens if someone turns it off or dims it with their phone and I need to turn it on?A: There's a setting, "retain brightness on power off". I found it best to have this set to "off" meaning if you turn the light off at the switch then back on, it comes on at full brightness, meaning it operates as a normal light bulb to anyone without the app. Other than beeping I guess.Q: How big/how heavy is it?A: Surprisingly heavy, but not that big. We're more used to larger bulbs these days with those fluorescent things that came before LED bulbs. It's not as big as those, but bigger than an LED bulb. It's heavy though.Q: How bright is it?A: Very bright, no different to an incandescent in brightness, however all the "led stuff" is at the very front of the bulb, so it's very directional. It won't light your ceiling up at all.Q: Does it work!?A: I had a little trouble getting it to pair in audio mode initially, but now it seems fine, I can swap phones, play music, mess with brightness, it's very responsive, much more so than my WEMO devices which are a real pain, so slow and awful.Q: Multiple devices?A: Yes, but not at the same time. You can handle multiple lights in the app, but you'd have to pair to one single device as a speaker. You can't group them like you can with WEMO as far as I can see. Remember of course you have to be in range because it's bluetooth so no multiroom speaker thing would be possible anyway. That's the Qs and As done, so I just had a couple of final thoughts really- Security. Hmm. This thing is open without a passcode. Of course, the security implications are really limited to stuff like your mates pranking you in your house, or perhaps a passer by playing creepy music at you - but these things not only can happen, but are open and easy to do. I guess you would be advised to change the name of the device but really that's not good enough. It needs a passcode, it really does.- Location, well, I have it in the bathroom at the moment. It's probably not waterproofed at all but our bathroom isn't terribly steamy or wet so I'm not worried so much. It is very useful in there! Music from the ceiling!Summary: I like it, but I'm slightly worried that one day I'll be slightly freaked out if someone decides to mess about with it in the middle of the night and I get woken up to some crazy music which isn't entirely unlikely since it's obvious to anyone who can pick it up that it's an audio device.

I have just taken delivery of my very first Sengled smart light bulb. I've never had a bulb that I can control from my phone before and as this one has a speaker I thought it sounded too good to be true. The delivery was received quickly and promptly and the bulb is very neatly packaged in a small cardboard box. The box of the product is strong and has detail of the bulb on all 4 sides. The box clearly states that this is a pulse solo, that it is a dual speaker bulbs and that it is LED. The speakers are powered by JBL which I've used before and had no problems. I went for the e27 fitting which is the screw end but there are others in the range with the b22 bayonet connection too.The box also shows that you can dim the light using an app from the Apple Store or the Google play store. I opened up the packaging to find quite a heavy but really sturdy looking bulb. The bulb is glossy white in colour and looks very nice. There is a warranty card, a user manual and a quick install guide. I opted for the quick install guide and found to my surprise there wasn't much too it at all. Turn off your lights, replace your existing bulb, and then turn on your lights. The bulb lit up straight away and was blinding it was that bright! Far brighter than my existing bulb I had in which was also led. The next step is to turn on Bluetooth on your device. I have an iPhone so turned it on and connected to Pulse Solo when it appeared. Instantly you could hear beeping from texts and writing messages coming through so the speaker was working. All of this was within a few seconds! Next is to download the app which was very easy to do. You can scan a QR code on the box or go straight to the store. The app was the top search result and took around 30 seconds to download and install. When opening the app it prompts you to select your bulb from the list. I clicked on solo and straight away it appeared in my devices. You can the slide a wheel on screen to take the brightness down from 100 to 0 and back again. I found if you click settings that you can have the bulb remember your setting for next time you turn on the bulb. If you don't click this it will come on with 100% brightness everytime. I then checked out the speaker. Opened up my music app and as I was already connected to Bluetooth it played a song straight away and I could control the volume either from my iPhone or from the app. I was very surprised by the quality! Up to about 75% volume this can easily compete with most Bluetooth speakers you can buy. When you go a little louder it tends to distort slightly but I won't be using this for parties but more for the radio in the bedroom or the bathroom! I'm really happy with this purchase and want to look to get another one so that I can play music from 2 speakers. My only criticism is that it is a little on the large side and quite heavy. You would realise that this is due to the JBL components inside and the build quality. However it may restrict usage on certain angle lamps.

So, to be clear, yes! This is a 7 Watt lightbulb that just plugs in to replace what you had before. Two notes about that. (1) It's a bayonet cap fitting - but most ceiling lights in the UK use that format so all good. (2) You CANNOT use this with any kind of dimmer - but you don't need to - see below. I think trying to use with a dimmer would probably fry the dimmer and the bulb - so please don't try it!Not *quite* as bright as a normal energy saving white bulb, but not far off enough to worry me. However, this does a lot more. It has a build in audio speaker and if you bluetooth pair it with your phone or laptop/PC you can play your music out through it.Get ready for the question "Is that music really coming from your light bulb?"When you have downloaded the free Sengled Pulse app (in my case from the Google Playstore, but also available for iPhone users ) you can:1) Set the colour of the light - using a colour swatch; pretty much any colour is possible to set.2) Whether you use a handful of preset colour, or you can have a sound to light that reacts to the music.3) You can select normal white light and control its intensity - just as if you had a dimmer.4) You can control the volume of the speaker.5) You can set the light and speaker to turn off after some amount of time (between 5 and 90 minutes)It all works really well - and huge fun to tinker with it. There is an option to make the lamp remember settings you used so that when you next turn it on it will return to the last used light settings. By default it comes on full white. The sound quality (from my phone playing 192K MP3s) is better than acceptable - but it does depend what you're playing. Quieter songs tend to sound less good in my opinion - but that may be down to a setting on my phone player - I havent really taken the time to see yet.If there is a downside to this as a product, I could wish that the coloured lights were a little bit brighter than they are. If you select a blue or a red or a yellow light they don't seem to me quite bright enough. When you set it to white it's fine, its just the individual colours on their own are just a little bit too dim for my taste, but you may love how it looks. An excellent product and so much fun!

This is probably more expensive than it should be, but on the other hand, it's better than I expected. As a multi-colour lighbulb it does most of what you'd expect. It's either a bright white light you can dim using the app on your phone/tablet, or you can have coloured light. The coloured light is much dimmer but pleasant enough with nice colours. You can choose a single colour on your phone/tablet screen or one of four smoothly changing 'themes' including one that sort-of responds to music from the speaker. You can set a 'sleep timer' to switch the bulb off after a set time. The app is extremely simple with few advanced features (I expected timers but there are none). You can't use the coloured lights without the app. It's when you use the speaker that it gets interesting. I didn't expect much from a speaker this size, but it's actually rather good. The sound is a bit 'laid back' but goes fairly loud and has enough bass to make music enjoyable. It sounds better than you think it's going to, and being in the ceiling seems to fill the room with sound.I connected my Amazon Echo Dot to it (just via Bluetooth for sound – there's no smart connection) and Alexa's voice now comes amusingly from the ceiling and sounds much clearer and louder. I use my Echo to play internet radio and some music and the sound is MUCH better than from the Dot itself. This is a great combination, but a pity you can't control the light show with Alexa too.As a Bluetooth speaker the best thing is that you don't have to charge the battery or plug it into the wall or find a space for it on your shelf. You can't even see it if you have the right shade. This is a pretty good product and I like it a lot, but watch the price.UPDATE: I was worried that the bulb would go and I'd be left with just a speaker, but after about six months the opposite happened. The speaker suddenly stopped working so now it's just a very expensive bulb...

I initially had reservations about this Sengled bulb. Looked tacky in the pictures but it actually looks good. It is a weighty bulb because of the in-built speaker. The bulb has a bayonet fitting so it should fit most ceiling lights and table lamps. The first thing is to download the app. Install the bulb and turn on Bluetooth on your phone or tablet. Once the connection is made, the bulb emits an audible tone. Fire up the app and there is one simple interface. The main circle at the top controls which colour the bulb emits. I did find that the yellow weren't yellow but more of a light green. The transition between the colours is not terribly smooth leading me to believe that there aren't millions of colours. There are some presets on the app - standard, romantic (which gives out a pink glow), energy which is lacklustre white and a function that acts as a disco light. The louder the volume, the bulb reacts to the sound source. I have attached a video clip with Metallica's 'Enter Sandman' to demonstrate the music light function so apologies if you don't like the music. The sound quality is very tinny so don't expect great sonic quality. You can also turn the bulb off using the app and there is a built-in timer.A major missing piece of tech is that it isn't a smart bulb. Maybe this wasn't the intention but I think the designers missed a trick here but the price may have gone up as a result.I would hasten to add that this isn't the type of bulb you wouldn't really want in a main room or the bedroom. I think it's more suited to a child's bedroom than anything else. Our nephews couldn't get enough of it and their parents asked if they could borrow it on a permanent basis. I think £60 is probably on the high side and would expect to see this selling for half the price in a couple of months time.

I already have one LED lightbulb with speaker in the house, so I knew what to expect when I received this Sengled one.The bulb is just as easy to fit as any other standard light bulb, but it is a little longer, so that's worth bearing in mind. We opted for the screw in bulb as we were using this for a desk lamp rather than our bayonette fitting in our room lights. It comes with some easy to read simple instructions and a warranty, a Qcode from the app and that's it.Once installed and turned on, the bulb is really bright, which is great as it doesn't use all that much electricity. LED bulbs are certainly worth getting as replacements for either old standard bulbs or the previous Energy Saving alternatives. The app can be searched for on the App Store for iOS or Google Store,or you can use the QCode to scan and find it immediately. It's small and quick to install and it's really simple to use. You can dim the lights with a single finger and this means that any desk lamp or light fitting can become dimmable, which certainly makes a difference to a room. The music playback is just done through bluetooth, so you can use the relevant app on your phone that you always use for music. It's fairly clear at lower volumes, though it doesn't have a lot of range to it. At louder volumes it starts to distort, so not good for parties. However, we use the speaker to hear audiobooks from the phone or tablet or just play music for the kids, it's really useful, if not the best quality.

I brought this to put in my office so that I could connect it to my Amazon Echo that is in my bedroom and play music etc when I wanted to. As a result this is great for the purpose that I intended it for, sound is nothing outstanding but is good enough for my needs (after all it is a bulb as well). The bulb itself was easy to set up and once the app is downloaded to your phone it is easily controlled from your mobile device: dimming, volume of speakers etc. Initially I had a few issues where the bulb would not connect when I went into the app but this seems to be happening less often now. I have tried he app on ios and android and it works just as well on either platform.Overall if you are looking for a good cheap unobtrusive speaker then this is well worth considering, however if sound quality is paramount then I suggest you explore other options.

Audio quality is good. I wouldn't say it is great but what do you expect from a speaker the size of a bulb, I also have no experience with other bulb speakers to make a comparison. It works will for listening to the radio in the mornings while in bed, or to watch some videos. Also plays my phone alarm through the speaker. The build quality of the product is of high standard. Connecting the Bluetooth can be a pick difficult at times but usually works after a few minutes. I would personally prefer a brighter bulb, but this is a minor issue. You can manually dim the bulb using an app too.

It’s very easy to set, a single application using Bluetooth allows you to turn off or set light independently of the sound. Which also means anyone could connect to it but that makes life easier too.The sound is not amazing, nor is it bad, but it’s not very loud; at least not using my iPhone or MacBook. Don’t expect to have crazy parties just thanks to this. It’s nice to put some music while working during the day or to watch movies laid in the bed.

I bought this because I listen to a lot of audio books, and the speaker in my phone is dying. I have to say it is really rather brilliant. It is even extremely capable when it comes to most music; if you want it for background music it delivers, and delivers well. Of course there's little bass response, but at no point does it ever sound "tinny". Thoroughly pleased with it.

Picture on site looked cheap but took a risk 10× better in real life looks like a nice bulb sound quality is really good partner loves it hooked up to my alexa and used as a normal light most of the time with the colour used as a night light for my daughter sound is loud a rather good quality

2.12.2018

Really pretty product and a fun idea! The music is pretty good though the bass is a bit low. The lights are surprisingly strong and the colours are lovely. Very easy to control via the app, which installs easily and is quite intuitive. It's an amusingly novel way to listen to music.

15.3.2015

I am a sucker for gadgets and this is one of the best I have encountered in recent years. I couldn't get the app to work on my Galaxy S5 to be honest, but bluetooth pairing was a doddle nevertheless and it kicks out surprisingly good sound - loud and clear.

6.9.2018

The sound is good - and a perfect alternative to sound systems which might take up space or plug sockets. The app is also very useable and easy to navigate. The bass is minimal, but it is a light bulb after all! Price is comparable to Wickes.

4.1.2021

First, of all you need to download the app and get things set-up - then get ready to enjoy the light and music display!Considering the music is emanating from a light bulb, the sound quality ain’t half bad!
