Bought to replace a 1TB drive that failed in my Humax HDR Fox T2. As I wasn't sure whether it was just the HDD at fault, and not some wider issue, I ordered the 500GB model, as it was significantly cheaper than the 1TB version. Also, I'd read in reviews that the 1TB version has an inferior reliability record to that of the 500GB HDD, and I'd never kept recordings long enough to make use of the larger capacity anyway.Anyway, fitting it in the box was straightforward (especially after watching a video on YouTube showing which bolts and connections needed to be undone to get the old drive out), and the new HDD was immediately recognised once everything was connected up.It's now working perfectly. Before deciding to try replacing the HDD, I had bought a newer Humax box (FVP-4000T), so I've now "daisy-chained" them together (looped the aerial lead through both of them to the TV). Initially, I found that the separate remote handsets were affecting both boxes, but I was able to overcome the problem by recoding one of the handsets. If anyone's interested, this is how to do it on a Humax box:1. Shut down the other box (you might need to disconnect the aerial loop to keep the signal to the TV).2. Make sure the box whose remote code you're trying to change is hooked up to your TV, and you have a picture3. Press and hold the OK and zero buttons until a message appears on the TV (takes up to 10 seconds)4. Select a number other than 1 on the handset (1 is the default code, so you need to change it to another. 2 works fine!)5. Restart the other box.The remote handsets will no longer conflict.Sorry to drone on, but I thought the bit at the end might be useful to some people - it took me a while to find out how to do it!

I bought this Seagate Pipeline Hard Drive to make an external Recording Drive for a TechniSat HDFV Freeview HD Set-Top Box.As this box does not have it's own hard drive for recording, but does have a rear USB Port, it was the only solution availabe to me.I had an External Hard Drive, a Verbatim, that contained a 1.5TB Drive which I removed to use in a PC Build, thus leaving an empty case. The Pipeline drive was easy to, and fit, into the case perfectly snugly. Some initial online research showed that this drive is mostly used for such Devices, Media Recording, and it has done the job admirably. Once fitted into the case and connected up to the TechniSat with it's original Verbatim USB cable,it was recognised and formatted by the HDFV, and ready for recording TV Programmes, which it has done without failure. As I download movies from peer-to-peer sites onto my computer, it has been an easy process to transfer these to the External Drive, and watch them on my 40" LCD Samsung TV too.My Set-Up is this; Self-Build PC next to the Samsung TV {which is connected via HDMI cable}. The TechniSat {also connected to the TV by HDMI} adjacent to the TV and PC.When a downloaded film is not in the right Movie File Format for the HDFV, I have convert it to MPeg II, the only Format the TechniSat HDFV will play. I then disconnect the USB cable from that and plug it into the PC, and then copy or move the film to the Pipeline External Drive, thus when done, un-plug from PC and re-connect to the TechniSat. And there they are, added to the Recordings List, and as easy to watch as a recorded TV programme.Read full review...

I run a small server used as a virtual host, for my home business, web server, and home server. It's only a small HP micro server and it doesn't get too much abuse.Anyway, using a P410 RAID card, everything runs on a RAID 5 array. It was first using 4x 500GB second hand pipeline drives - I know, but money was tight. One of the 500gb started to show signs of failing so I've decided that over the course of the next 4 months I'll replace a drive a month with 1TB versions.Simple case of switching the drive, and withing 3 hours, I was back to having a fully redundant RAID 5 array again. These won't break any speed records, but that wasn't the main concern. The RAID 5 array increases read speeds anyway to ~300MB/s.The main concern is reliability, and that's where these disks excell when considering their cost. They are designed for 24/7 operation, and have a better non-recoverable read error rate by a factor of 10 compared to your typical desktop drive. They also run with a lower rpm, and this helps with lowering vibration and noise. NCQ also helps with keeping those access times down. They're not enterprise raid disks, but if you are on a budget and raw performance isn't your aim, then these are suitable alternatives.Brilliant drive, quite, nippy for its specs, and more reliable compared to a typical consumer hard drive. Can't complain. Amazon delivery was superb as usual too!

This was purchased to replace a failing hard disk on an existing system. As the system was old speed wasn't of paramount importance so this fitted the criteria having a lower speed and consequently excellent low power consumption and very little noise. It was also backwardly compatible by the use of a jumper over pins at the back of the drive to enable this SATA2 drive to be used on an original SATA system without any problems. Be aware that you do need a micro jumper as the drive doesn't have any fitted but these only cost a few pence. If using it in the SATA2 configuration then no additional jumpers are required.Despite the low spin speed (5900rpm)of the hard drive it was actually found that the data throughput was cinsiderably faster than the older failing drive with a faster spin speed (7200rpm).If using it with Windows XP, Vista or 7 you will find that you'll need to reformat the drive into the NTFS format but this isn't difficult and can be done when instslling Windows onto the drive or if not the main drive then from within Windows itself. To comclude I can recommend this drive as good value for money with quiet performance.Read full review...

I bought this drive for use in a PVR after the previous one started to fail. The first one I bought would not load the heads upon power up but the seller quickly refunded my money so I purchased a 2nd one, which worked perfectly. The 2nd disk's SMART info revealed that it had been used for less than 1000 hours and had absolutely no errors so I am hopeful that this one will provide long service. It uses only only 3.4 watts during read/write operations, 0.7watt during sleep, 3 watts in idle mode and 24 watts during disk startup so it is a great drive to use in devices like PVRs where the disk tends to be in data mode continually, if time shifting is enabled. In addition it is very quiet,I can hardly hear it and it compares very favourably to a Western Digital drive that is used in one of my friends PVRs.I would recommend this drive with the one caveat that prospective purchasers should watch out for the older 2nd hand ones may have been used for years in Sky boxes, etc. and are reaching the end of their lives. This model is no longer manufactured so most that are available are 2nd hand.Read full review...

Purchased to replace a failed drive in the DVR [for CCTV]. Easy to swap out generic dive - plugged it into DVR, powered up and it was "found" instantly by the DVR and started to record straight away. Waited 10 minutes, checked the drive and then watched the DVR playback - faultless in that it found and replayed recorded files seconds from install, in good HD quality too - very quick and also very quiet [an issue some have with these drives is the noise]. So very pleased, especially at this price, still working 100% after a week . Just want to add that I have no idea if this is new or a refurb, and don't really care, it was very cheap for what it is in comparison for others on Amazon [and elsewhere]and working is all I wanted and that's what these are! One word summary - bargain and just hope I don't have to add anything negative in a few months time when it is full and starts to overwrite itself :).

I bought this hard drive as it was one of the very cheapest brand new drives of this capacity that was listed on ebay. For the price I didn't expect it to be that good and from what I've read and heard about these drives that are 'designed for media and PVR devices' I didn't get my hopes up. However, when I received it and installed it into my Dell XPS Gen4 Desktop, I was astounded with the performance and how silent it was when running. From my experience, this easily out-performs any 7200RPM drive I have used over the last few years and Windows XP boots in less than 10 seconds to the desktop, I've only ever seen these sort of speeds from an SSD drive.

The hard drive on my cctv system had insufficient capacity at only 250GB. This meant it would overwrite too quickly. I did not want to spend a great deal of money on a brand new hard drive and so I purchased this used product. There was no problem with the compatibility of his hard drive. The only very minor issue was that I noticed the printed circuit control board had been removed and replaced on the hard drive - so I had to assume it was a repaired unit. Nevertheless it has worked fine.

My Humax gave up and deleted all my recordings and the disc would not reformat. I was about to buy a new one when I saw on Utube how easy it was to fit a new disc. I thought Id try it and bought this one - it was reconditioned, so not new, but it was realy good value, and when Id got the old one out and put this in it worked first time and so far has been going fine for over a month, including recording all the Xmas TV. Thats less than £10 against more than £200. Excellent value.

Simple case of slotting this hard drive in the box (an ageing Thomson HD Sky box with a failing HDD), no formatting required, worked straight away and retained all my custom settings.Far quieter than the old drive and has cured most of the problems and improved general picture/sound quality and speed of working. For this price, it's a no brainer - a faster, quieter, larger HDD than the original at a great price and delivered in a flash. Thanks!

This is the second Seagat HD I bought to replace the failed HD in my Humax HDR FOX T2. the first one from a different supplier was faulty and now on it's way back, that cause me no end of time wasting to find it was a faulty new drive. But this drive from this supplier is a 100%, tested it first on the PC and it was what it said it was so popped it in the Humax it seen it straight away formatted it job done. THANKS GUYS YOU SAVE THE DAY.

Well what can you say about a hard drive? I guess you put them in your machine and they get on with the job of storing data or they don't. Some make more noise than others but was that old 'IDE's? Anyhow I haven't heard a whisper from this one and 500GB of storage for £25 is great value. Sounds cheap but I most likely bought a used item as I didn't consider it likely to give me problems and it hasn't!

I bought this HDD as a replacement for my desk PCThe disc was formatted and simple to set upI would buy another as it more than justifies the costA great piece of kit from a great ebayer highly recommendedI cannot find anything negative to say about the product or the supplier

This is an excellent hard drive and I would recommend this product, Seagate have always provided good drives and there is free software from their site to ease transfer of data as well. If you end up needing to choose between drives choosing seagate will not leave you disapointed.
