Ever since the advent of Garage Band I've been toying around with different, easy-to-use, low-cost ways of recording live instruments direct to my computer (a mac in this case). These recordings did not need to be pro-studio quality, but definitely good enough for demos, multi-track work and capable of picking up and preserving the sound quality of the instrument and any effects it was running through. The latest mic to make it home has been the Samson Go Mic and, so far, it's delivered on all fronts. Out of the box it is a lot smaller and more 'plasticky' than the packaging suggests, which somewhat lowers your expectations in terms of sound performance and value for money. However, once set up (which was instant on a mac with Garage Band identifying it first time), the sound quality was very good, much better than my previous direct input solution--the (admittedly low cost) Griffen iMic. I was using the Samson specifically to capture bass guitar played through a good quality amp, with the mic set up a few feet away on the directional setting. I was very impressed with the tone and range of the recording, although, whilst playing, latency (delay between the playing of the instrument and the sound coming through on the monitor/hedaphones/computer) was occasionally an issue. This was only sometimes apparent when playing, but never on the recording itself. This is not really a flaw with the product as all USB recording set ups at this sort of price level will suffer from this issue to some degree or another. On listening back to the recordings the bass is warm, clean and pretty punchy. I haven't tried it specifically with higher frequency sources or for capturing more than one instrument at a time (eg in a rehearsal situation), but, for the purposes described, I can recommend this product.A more robust / metal body and the option to go direct line (via 1/4" or 35mm jack) would top my wish list if they made a version 2.

Bought for use in making software demo videos that required a decent quality recording of a human voiceover but had a tight budget to work with in terms of purchase.First off the negatives thought there aren't many. It can be quite fiddly getting the recording level right and as had been detailed in some of the reviews you'll spend some time messing about in the Sound options in control panel getting the level quite right. For that "silent" voice over level the only option is the -10db seting on the mic as I found that both the surround and one directional base settings captured a lot of background noise. That can give a slightly flat sound if you aren't careful but lowering the levels and speaking closer to the mic helps this. The good points are that this little mic (and it;s about as long as a clothespeg!) punches well above it's weight in terms of quality sound capture. Although I;ve used it for voice over and some very simple guitar/vocal demo tracks I can see that it has a range beyond that and could easly be used for group recordings or podcasting etc. I've been very impressed by how good it is at picking up an un-amplified acoustic guitar and making it sound almost as if it's been put through a pre-amp rather than just picking up the sound. Great tones as well.So overall it's a massive thumbs up. Might invest in an extra long mini-usb cable at the same time if you are planning on podcasting from home and you need to ploug it in the back of your PC but need to have it sat close to you.

This is a small condenser microphone (about 5 cm tall) which plugs into a USB port and derives its power from the USB port. I bought it to use with speech recognition software because I was fed up with wearing a headset microphone. This little microphone sits next to my keyboard on my desk and has proved far more accurate in use with the speech recognition software than the supplied headset microphone. The whole of this review was dictated, without correction, using the Samson microphone. I haven't yet used the microphone for recording music but the sound quality from spoken voice is very good and is an ideal compact setup for the creation of podcasts.I have just ordered three more of these microphones for use on all of our computers. There is only one quirk that needs to be explained. There is a three position switch on the side of the microphone which changes the field from omnidirectional to selective (cardioid) or selective with a -10dB reduction (for very close vocals). The instruction manual doesn't tell you what the tiny symbols by the switch mean - the bottom symbol = full circle is omnidirectional, the middle symbol is -10dB and the top symbol = heart-shaped (perhaps unsurprisingly) is cardioid. Mine came switched to omnidirectional and it did work for speech recognition but is far more effective in cardioid mode when you need the green light on the microphone facing you.

I bought this for use in skype and online radio discussions. I had started out with built-in laptop mic and tried 2 other external analog mics, but still hated the poor sound.Had already been using audacity so, having read reviews here, ignored all software discs and just plugged it in. Installs automatically in XP no problem. also is detected by skype with option to set as default device. only minor niggle here is will also set headphone jack on mic as default sound out, but simple to change settings in windows or apps.First test recording in audacity was unbelievable. using cardioid setting and speaking from about 12" away, sound was clean and clear with v good rejection of off-axis noise.the mic led clip indication makes setting level easy. Had to reduce all levels compared to previous analog mics. From first use on skype, improved sound quality was noticed instantly by friends online. One friend, experienced audio/video technician, bought one just from hearing sound improvement over skype.the stand/clip is ok but would not clip on top of my old, chunky laptop too well. Whilst it does stand ok, i have opted for a desktop stand to reduce vibration noise.not had use for -10db setting. this microphone is sensitive to breath and pops so anyone wanting to use it close up should consider adding pop shield.excellent quality for price.

I travel a lot and often need a microphone for using Skype and online chat. I tried the Blue Snowflake, which is a great little mic but somehow didn't really work for me as a travel companion. It was just the size/shape rather than the functionality. (Don't let that put you off buying one, the Snowflake is a good product.) So recently, I decided to try again and came across the Samson Go-Mic, and found the perfect thing. The Samson Go-Mic is small, well built and sets up in about a minute. There is a heavy duty metal clip, which attaches to the top of your laptop screen, or you can use the clip as a stand if you prefer to use the mic next to your computer. You can also attach the mic to a microphone stand if you need to.When you've finished, the Go-Mic folds neatly into the metal clip, and stores in its own little zip up case. The only "con" that I can see is that the solid construction means that the mic stand/clip is quite heavy for its size, but build quality is something I look for anyway.I keep my Go-Mic in the zip pocket of my laptop bag, so its always handy. This turns out to be the killer feature for me. My laptop bag has become my portable office with pens, notepad, usb cable, mouse, mic and headphones. If you need a portable mic, then I heartily recommend the Samson Go-Mic! It's small, well made, and a bargain.

I've been playing with this mic for a couple of days so far, and it's definitely an upgrade from my old Creative mic.It has great, clean sound quality on the -10 cardioid setting when speaking about 10cm or less into the mic (although I there is some popping on the "th" sounds when you're that close to the mic, so I'm going to experiment with a pop filter to see if that helps). When recording with the -10 cardioid setting, since I have a soft voice, I found the recording comes out a little quiet, especially when I'm further away from the mic, but once I raise the volume by about +6 to +10 dB in audacity or in my video-editing program, that solved that. All in all,I'm happy with this purchase and with the sound quality it provides for my voiceover recordings for youtube videos. If you need a good, small, easy-to-travel-with USB mic for an extremely reasonable price, this is a good choice.(NB I noticed there is sometimes a price difference between the Black and White version, so if you don't mind about colour and want the best deal, you may want to check out if there's still a difference in the prices)

I got one of these specifically for recording lectures while typing notes and its the best companion for my netbook. Alot of people ask me "whats that?" or "where did you get that?" it just looks cool if not overkill for my application but using the built in mic was an absolute joke where it picked up harsh noise from people moving or nothing at all.this mic sorts that all out but recording clean, quality audio which is a joy to listen back to. if i ever had to skype conversation I would use this to.one thing I would have liked to see, would be a retractable usb cable in the box rather than a long cable but that could be due to my specific application as other people tripod mount this mic torecord instruments for professional work!so if you want to record lectures and you bring your laptop into class I highly recommend this mic.

Received my mic today. I knew it would be small but hadn't imagined it to be as compact as it actually is. It's an ideal size for carrying around. It fits neatly into the supplied carrying case which is padded and will provide good protection. The quality of the recording has surpassed my expectations. I bought the mic primarily for recording interviews and lectures. On the Omni setting it picks up even quite quiet sounds from around the room and is ideal for the purpose. The cardioid setting produces a rich, well-balanced recording of my voice and would clearly be excellent for web chat, podcasts and the like. All in all, particularly given the size and relative low-cost, this mic is astounding.Anybody looking to upgrade the in-built mic on their laptop or tablet device need look no further.

After being suprised at quite how small the Go Mic is, my second suprise was how good the sound recording quality is. After installing Windows 7, I've had a lot of trouble with sound recording devices either not being recognised, losing signal strength or picking up huge amounts of static noise, but none of these problems are in evidence with the Samson Go Mic.The instructions guide you through calibration and set up (which is very easy - plug and play) and the microphone itself is excellent. I use it for recording music demos to my laptop and the sensitivity and effective range is fine for vocals and guitar. It also picks up next to no bakcground buzz, which is a big step up from most USB mics, certainly in this price range.A small but perfectly formed bit of kit. Recommended.

one of the best microphones in this price range. i had a choice between going with the blue snowball microphone and this. in the end the Samson go became the clear winner. it has studio quality recording audio and the size just blew me away for how good it is also, it fits into the palm of your hand. i have it clipped onto my monitor but if you plan on doing that make sure its thin enough. no cables to mic stands. perfect. the 3 adjustable modes for different audio setting make this very handy depending on what you are doing and what environment you are in. the packing is very nice and premium and your mic comes with a carrying case for protection. would highly recommend this mic to anyone.

best microphone under 50$Short review: I use this for youtube and streaming and people tell me it sounds like the blue yeti (150$ mic). It has 3 modes and it sounds really clear in the -10db mode. I edit my audio through audacity and that makes the audio sound 90% better. It's really small and compact and can easily fit into your palm which makes it a great product if you're travelling a lot. This is just the best microphone on the market for under 50$ to start youtube or streaming, i recommend buying a mic arm though if you plan to stream because it will require you to use -10db mode for the best quality while streaming. I purchased a really cheap mic arm and its been serving me well

When I ordered this I was slightly sceptical thanks to its small form factor. However as soon as I recorded one bit of audio I was in love with this product. The audio is great almost matching £75 microphones such as the blue snowball, also it is just plug and play no driver software needed however obviously you will need some basic recording software I recommend audacity its free simple and works really well. The size was what I was worrying about but it comes with a neat little case so it is really portable.Personally I am using it for a mic for my youtube videos but you can use it for many more things!I can't recommend this more it is amazing for the price YOU HAVE TO GET IT!!!

I bought this mic to record very basic musical ideas before recording them properly. It is perfect for people on the move, wanting to record in different locations with ease. The use of different polar patterns a nice option. I mostly use the cardioid but having the omni-directional is useful for rehearsal situations with more than one musician in the room.Overall the microphone does exactly what i ask of it. It gives me clear recordings that i can easily listen back to and analyse and I can take it anywhere! It is a replacement for the built in mic on my computer and is so much better. Definitely worth the money.

By it's size but it works extremely well .It does not say it works with windows 10 but I'v had no problems with it at allIt's surprisingly sturdy and comes with it's own tiny case that protecs it well in my laptop bag .The cable does not fit into the case but a small wallet will surfice fort that .The mike folds away into it's stand and literaly sits into the palm of the hnd in it's case when packed away so perfect for travelIt arrived quickly and well packaged so no complaints at all

I wanted a microphone for amateur recording. I wasn't looking for anything overly professional, just something better than average that would make my voice sound good. I have been pleasantly surprised at the quality of the microphone. I haven't bought a pop filter and am yet to see a need for one provided you stay far enough away from the microphone. On youtube, there's a video of me using the Samson Go Mic on a cover of a John Legend song. I used Audacity to add a bit of reverb and that was it. Check it out and it should give an idea of what the microphone is like: [...]I definitely recommend it!
