These are smart, stylish, responsive and accurate scales ideal for use in the kitchen - or even a home office for use as postal scales. Build quality is superb and they sit securely on a kitchen worktop or desk, have non-slip rubber feet with some slight flexibility to accommodate a slightly uneven surface and can stand upright for storage.Pleasingly, they are supplied with a CR2032 battery already fitted so are ready for use straight from the box. Just switch on by tapping the touch-sensitive power button, set to zero and select the measurement unit, ie metric - grammes up to 5kg, imperial - pounds and ounces or fluid measures, ie ml or fl. oz and add items to the 22.5x16cm weighing platform. For items more easily measured in a bowl or box, place the box onto the scale, zero the scales and then add items to be weighed. I have a small online shop and compared the weights of the day's order packages with those of the local post office's electronic scales: tThose up to 2kg were within 2 grams and the 5kg packages had a variance of up to 3-4 grams confirming the scales are highly accurate. Equally, measuring fluid volumes of milk and water-based were accurate hence these are good, reliable and versatile scales for home-baking and general use in the kitchen. These scales are well made, backed by an impressive 15 year guarantee along with the reassurance of the Salter brand name, and I would expect them to last for years, if not decades. Recommended.

We've used a pair of electronic Salter scales for many years now and really do like them. They soon become second-nature to use. Pleasingly, these scales still work perfectly - to our surprise and pleasure – the same model was used on The Great British Bake Off on TV!So - is the new model better? Well, firstly, it certainly is an ultra-modern-looking device with its glossy, smooth black glass weighing surface. It looks superb in our kitchen. The two physical buttons on the top have now been cleverly moved to just below the front lip and replaced by smooth "touch buttons". These are proving to be something of a mixed blessing since – although the design is now certainly more hygienic – the lackof a physical push button makes it a little less easy to locate the finger on it to zero the scales during weighing. There's a bit of a knack involved that took us a while to get the hang of - and it can occasionally be a little frustrating. Overall, however, these new scales are proving excellent. They will weigh large quantities (up to 5kg) which means a quite large bowl can be used to weigh ingredients in. They are proving to be very precise and accurate (interestingly, after all these years, our old scales proved identically accurate with the weights we tested them with - we're impressed with Salter!).

These scales look really good and perform really well. The only slight gripe is that, if you need to reset the scales you need to press the button on the front, and it doesn’t always work first time; you may have to hold the scales in one hand whilst pressing the button with the other. Not in itself a hardship, but if your hands are covered in flour it is a bit of a problem. The scales are, as described, ultra-slim, and the black glass top is very easy to keep clean and shiny. The top area is large enough to put a really big bowl or saucepan on without obscuring the numbers, and it is very easy to change the units from pounds to kilos and fluid ounces to mls,Of course you only need to change these once; my wife is old-school and prefers imperial measures, but as many recipes are now given in metric it is better to have both systems,We hope these will give many years of service; knowing Salter’s reputation, they should.

I was delighted to receive these (and the day after my old ones gave up the ghost: Amazon prescient or what?).They are a robust feeling black glass topped scales on a metal (i think) base. they are reassuringly heavy and i have high hopes they will stand up to the punishment of our kitchen. They power up reasonably quickly (good as anything else of its kind) with controls at the front to change units (pounds/ounces, kilo/grammes,ml and fluid ounces) and another button for on/off, and more usefully to zero the scale. My only wish (and this goes for all the scales i've ever seen), is that you could keep them switched on without automatically powering down after a few minutes. OK you'd lose battery life, but whilst you are preparing food you would not have the frustration of having to switch on and wait for them to start up before you added each and every ingredient. If there are any manufacturers out there...

These are the first digital kitchen scales I have used, and I am really pleased and impressed with them. Very simple to use, with an on/off button that is also used to set the scales to zero, once you have placed a bowl or container of your choice on them. There is a second button to choose the measurement unit, either grammes, ounces or millilitres. These are very precise, measuring to the exact gram, very different to the manual scales I have always used before. These also look great, sleek black glass, and very easy to just wipe clean. Space-saving too, as the small flat design means I can just pop them into my kitchen drawer when I’m not using them.

It took a little while to get used to the controls as they can be tricky to access. For normal use they are touch sensitive and you don't have to 'press' them, but to switch off you have to 'hold' the control for a few moments. Once you get used to it, this is OK. I found it easy to use and it worked well with both solid and liquid measures. Weighing in any suitably sized container works well and if you want to switch between units that's simple too. However, it is quite small and light so doesn't always grip the surface well. Display was nice and clear. Good value for money.

Great set of kitchen scales with a nice glossy black glass surface and clear display. The display is large with numerous weighing units, and the touch button On/Off/Reset and Unit selection buttons, in addition to the glass top, make it extremely easy to clean. The scales are pretty accurate. The position of the touch buttons is a bit odd, being on the front of the scales rather than on the top which can make it a little unnatural to operate, but overall these are very good.

The good points here are many. The size and thickness are ideal for storage out of the way in the smallest of kitchens. The controls aren't protruding buttons, so there are no edges to accumulate gunk and it's easy to wipe clean. The digital display is large and bright. My only hesitation is that the battery saving cutout activates a little quickly for my linking. When going to a cupboard for the next ingredient, it's not uncommon to return to a blank display.

SCALES======It's a lovely looking set of scales. Simple. You place the item it gives you an exact weight. It's accurate too. A Simple straightforward weighting machine.ACCURATE=========It is. I set it to KGs and the display is clear and readable.LIGHT=====It's light and very thin. It looks rather nice in our kitchen.OVERALL========It's a nice thin scale which I hope will last years. I'll update this if I have any problems.

This is a nice slim set of scales - easy to use, only a couple of buttons for power, reset and changing units - and it's very compact for storage. However, the top is made of glass rather than metal or plastic so this means that, rather than just shoving them in a drawer when you are done, you have be really careful of where you put them when not in use. Just give that some thought before you invest!

These are certainly slim scales with a low profile. This makes them excellent for easy storage. The plain black colour means they go with any colour scheme and they weigh in varying different units. Very good.
