Bought these after trying Speedcross (which were too narrow for my foot) and found these were wide enough for my foot. They are IMO large in size, initially I got them a size up (as you are supposed to with hiking shoes) but they were way too big so I changed for the same size I usually wear and still have just over an inch from my big toe to the tip, so perfect according to hiking experts. They are also really light and a joy to wear for long as it feels like you are not wearing shoes. I always carry two pairs of shoes (trail runners and normal trainers to swap between depending on terrain and weather) when hiking and so weight also matters in that context. They are warm though, surprisingly warm,I have only used them in summer and my feet were hot in thin socks, so it will be interesting to see if I'll need thick socks in winter or if they will be ok without.I bought them for a long hiking trip as I prefer shoes over hiking boots and for this purpose they are great. I might get some short gaiters as I tend to get a lot of small stones into the back to the shoes due to the heel tab being quite high and loose creating the perfect little 'pocket' for sand and stone to fall into. They dry quickly after being wet and the tread is awesome on slippery or uneven surfaces, I did cut the laces as they were very long and I kept stepping on them. I only got blisters once, and that was my 5th hike, I suspect bad socks that became very wet were to blame and not actually the shoes as the first 4 hikes I did wearing them had been fine and I was surprised how comfy they were on the first, short (5 KM) hike.I am very happy with the shoes and would probably go for the same model if I had to chose again, the missing star is purely due to them being warm and the heel tab not sitting neat against the heel.

I am a huge fan of Salomon footwear, currently using their Quest 4D GTX walking boots which are into their 6th year of faultless use alongside my long-serving cross trainers, the legendary Speedcross 3. I've pictured them with these new Alphacross for comparison, as they are the absolute benchmark for any new cross trainer.First off, the build quality of them appears to rival the Speedcross. They have a similar feel to them and I would expect them to give plenty of service. They do lack the fast lacing system employed by the Speedcross so the have a greater risk of laces coming undone or loose during runs, and they are not Gore-tex so water ingress is more likely. Underneath, the boots share a very similar tread pattern which gives supreme grip and confidence over off-road trails, especially grass and mud. I would raise the same concern for both in that the grip level is significantly reduced over hard and smooth terrain such as roads and footpaths so if you're more likely to be running on those surfaces then I'd recommend regular running trainers and stick to the fells with the Alphacross. They are exceptionally comfortable, something I've always found with Salomon footwear. The Alphacross are also, in my opinion, very sylish. They're almost stepping into fashion trainer territory. You wouldn't dream of wearing Speedcross if you weren't out for a run, but with the Alphacross you could just about style it out. Because of this, although they're not quite at the very pinnacle of greatness with the Speedcross, they've now become my default footwear for walking/running my border collie through the parks.

My mum, who is nearly 86, has recently started going into the gym with a personal fitness instructor to try to help build up some leg muscles to overcome problems with occasional falls. Odd though this idea might sound, she has been getting some benefit from it, and the only problem we've had is getting her some suitable footwear for her sessions.Out of the blue, Amazon offered me these to try in size 6, which is my mum's size, so I thought we'd give them a go. They appear very well made, with no loose ends or, and this was vital for mum, bumps or bits sticking out inside them. The sole is grippy and not too hard inside for her feet. She's never owned a pair of trainers in her life (plimsoles at school back in medieval times of course, but not trainers), and to be honest, I thought it unlikely she'd either want them or like them. I'm pleased to say I was wrong on both counts. They're very light, which is obviously important, and as she has very fragile feet, she was pleased to find them very comfortable too. It's early days yet, but she had no problem getting them on or lacing them up, and she then spent all afternoon wearing them without any problems. I was surprised just how enthusiastic she was about them.I appreciate these shoes are really meant for much younger runners and I'm sorry I can't offer some information about how they perform for such people, but if you're the wrong side of 80 and aren't averse to giving a bit of modern footwear technology a try, from my mum's experience, I think you'll be very pleased with these.

The Salomon Alphacross W Trainers are, in appearance, very well represented by the vendor's images of them at the top of this page. The uppers are nylon-like tear-resistant synthetic, very shiny and patterned mesh that gives them an interesting tactile aspect, but more importantly, they are washable and easy to clean. The soles are gum rubber, they are very firm and potentially quite durable, with a simple chevron pattern tread on the soles. The inner is lightly padded, with heavier padding on the tongue and heel where it is most required. The insole is what they call an Ortholite insole, said to afford greater comfort, and I am assured by the wearer that they are indeed comfortable.Upon close examination everything appeared to be well put together, all the seams were sound. While I don't particularly care for the colour styling, the wearer has no such reservations and assures me that the comfort factor is much more important anyway. With nothing much else to distinguish these trainers from the multitude of competitors I think they'd need to be very comfortable indeed to pay the upper range of prices these are listed at.

I've seen quite a few different types of Solomon shoes over the past few months as they continue to take on some of the bigger names in this space. In terms of build quality, these seem pretty solid - as I would hope given where they are pitched. All the material seems of reasonable quality and the shoe itself is relatively light but not the lightest I've tried.Comfort wise, the fit is probably slightly smaller than I'm used to so perhaps consider sizing up with these. The material itself sits nicely with no badly placed stitching and a a reasonable amount of support. The base is thick enough not to feel the road and while not massively "springy" as some are, not everyone wants that. When taking these out on the road therefore, you've got a pretty solid running shoe. It doesn't excel in in any one area but is a middling option. Worth a try.

Size:10 DFit:In running shoes, I often purposely choose my shoes a half to full size small, especially trail runners. These absolutely fit exactly like a 10 D should, outside of being perhaps an 1/8 of an inch narrower than a traditional D width. While slightly narrow, these are very comfortable trail runners.Grip is exceptional. I've ran in these in outright downpours, but I've yet to slip. Even running over slick rocks is not a problem. While grip is exceptional, the way these are designed, they don't tend to hold on to loose rocks or mud.Weight wise, I'd characterize these as right in the middle of trail runners.Overall, outside of the slightly narrow nature of these shoes,I don't feel there is a finer trail runner on the market. I love these shoes and have no reservations recommending them.5 starsCheers!

I’m a size 6.5 with wide(ish) feet. I had a feeling they would not fit me because they’re a size 6 and they look quite narrow. I’ve worn them now for 2 days so far, gone about my usual stuff. I know they’re meant for hiking but I’m not able to do that but what I can say is I’m unsteady on my feet and the tread on these trainers make me feel safe. They’re very comfortable and I wore them whilst driving and they are super comfortable. I really like how the tread is right up to the front of the toes, which makes them ideal for climbers and rough terrain. They seem to be splash proof too. I’m thinking when the ground is slippery I will be fine on a bit of ice/frost. Don’t fancy landing on the rear this year ?for serious hikers/climbers I think I can safely say they’ll be perfect ?

I've been wearing Salomon's for years. They're well constructed, cleverly designed, decent quality, comfortable shoes. This pair is no exception.Aesthetically the white of the sole matches well with the blue of the body - you'll stand out on the track, or on the trail. The laces are broad and quick to tie. I did have some trouble with them getting loose after a while, but that settled after they were broken in.The grip on the sole is surprisingly effective; no trouble on muddy tracks, and it even handled, memorably, some unexpected black ice.The ankle support is solid, and the shoes themselves are light and comfortable on the feet.Frankly, this is another excellent effort by Salomon - they've made another pair of first class shoes here.

As trail running shoes, these are almost perfect. Great treads on the bottom for maximum grip on the trail (we are talking about real trails here - dirt and rocks, not paved). Shoes are fairly soft, conducive to running. The shoe base is wide enough to provide side-to-side stability, which helps to protect the ankle from twisting. Do note that for trail hiking (not running), mid or high top hiking boots will provide even more ankle protection. The only wish, purely based on preference and your foot shape, is for more arch support. The shoes come with arch support but could have just a bit more to help people who have plantar fasciitis. If you don't have problems with your feet, the built-in arch support will probably be enough.

I've owned and been very impressed by Salomon walking boots in the past. So, I was more than happy to see if their running shoes were also made to the same high standards - I'm pleased to report they are!For me these are a good, comfortable fit. They do give good arch support, and I like the design which though breathable, allows good waterproof protection around the usually vulnerable toe area. The outer sole has a nice chunky tread and gave me a good sense of grip when I took them out for a trial run on a local, muddy forest track. These are a light-weight design which incorporate a ortholite foam insole for added comfort and are a joy to wear. Overall,I really like these shoes and can unreservedly recommend them.

Ok, My wife who is in the Prime of life 50+ is the user. So not a review for Younger People. She wants me to say 'They are so comfortable' & for someone with Flat feet,( I know i see a vision of a steam roller running & Flattening feet) But its a real issue so i believe, & kept her dad in the Army stores. Ok, Lovely cushioned inside, Good tracts on the soul of trainer felt secure on a slippery lino. Heal support cushioned well no rubbing. If you want a trainer that supports your feet Better than you expect. well they have the support of a 50+ Wife & if she says they are good It means they are. now i know what to get her for a New year Pressie. These Trainers have the thumbs up

These fit on the smug side - slightly snug then the UK size but not snug enough to go half a size downVery comfortable and good shock impact protection in the heel and ballGood traction and gripBreathable and not smellyVery light weight and good support for the foot - no problems with the Achilles rubbing against the back of the trainerThe olive isn’t the most attractive colour and the overall look doesn’t suit the colour I was sent - I’d suggest another colour rather than olive green.Overall a very comfortable breathable well made pair of light trail running trainers - or good for general urban day to day use or light trail use

First thing you see when you open the box... a nice new shoes! I like the design with just black and white colors.A fine design that fits your foot completely. It has a very light weight which helps when we are running, especially if we have to make long distances. The sole has a design with protrusions to facilitate grip when we trail, mountain races, although they feel very comfortable walking or running on asphalt for example. The size I would say I was expecting a little smaller one because I usually wear thin socks and with these shoes I have to wear a little thicker socks to feel the foot tight.

A rugged sole on a light weight shoe. The High heel tab is secure and the level of cushioning is adequate for off-road running or short section of road. It’s easy to pull the laces up to tightly at the top on the instep but when correctly tensioned it all makes for a comfortable ride. (I may look at the gortex lined model next as these uppers breath and let water in. ) I’m happy with the purchase and it is my second pair.

Everything was great, they fit great, they look great and overall super happy. However, after one run the glued down part over the big toe lifted (pictured). Plus there doesn't appear to be a way to contact the seller. A little annoying but as it seems to just be glued down anyway I will just glue it myself. Would have given 5 stars but this little defect is a little annoying considering I only wore them once.
