Ryobi is a fully accept seen by many as a low end tool maker and, I will concede that some time ago this was the case. However, over the last five or six years they have very noticeably pushed the brand upwards in quality and of course price. I guess that's a basic marketing strategy with battery tools. Once you have a base of users then they are by and large trapped by the battery format. Some years ago when I started my house renovation I bought a bunch of Ryobi stuff because it was relatively cheap and the batteries not bonkers priced. I figured that a few years use and I'd 'upgrade' as they failed.Well, seven ball-busting years later I'm still using the said same drill/drivers and of the three battery power packs I bought initially two are still going strong despite having been near beaten to death and charge literally hundreds of times. I am utterly amazed at how good they have been and because of that have instead of replacing Ryobi instead I have bought more. Much more. And they have become better and better.Which brings me to this palm sized sander which, is absolutely excellent. Really. The plastic despite being having a colour chosen by a blind man is properly high quality with a solid robust feel to it. I suspect it might be PA6 which is a fibre reinforced plastic used by better quality brands.Speaking of which Ryobi is owned by Tecktronic Industries of Hong Kong. Who also own AEG and Milwaukee tools as well. Now, you are not telling me that in their factory they are making three entirely different sets of power tool electro-mechanicals. I've used just about every major brand out there as an engineer and I'm pretty sure that the main difference between my Ryobi and Milwaukee is the colour of the plastic case...Anyway, bottom line is that I honestly think that Ryobi is a genuine alternative to the likes of DeWalt, Milwaukee and Bosch (pro - the DIY range is junk). Not quite up there with Makita but not that far off.Now in use this sander is superb. When comparing it to a mains powered version - I have three others from different manufacturers - this is just as good but has the benefit of no cord. It has loads of power and easily sanded for test purposes a bit of white kiln dried oak I had lying about in my workshop.Noise is lower than my mains powered sanders which is a nice bonus but, most of all the dust collection is better. Properly good for an add on bag type. Of course using a vacuum is even better and the location of the air outlet on this makes fitting and using a vac easy.Overall a superb cordless sander and highly recommended if you are a user of the Ryobi One+ batteries. And a quick reminder that this is a bare tool so factor in another fifty or sixty quid if you don't have any.

I really suffer if a tool has too much vibration and it limits how long I can work with it for. I've got corded sanders but had a job where a cordless one would make life a lot easier - and was delighted to find that this unit is superb both as a sander and as a balanced tool.Sanding plate rotates as well as vibrates, which seems to make the movement experienced by the user less intense. Also, seems to give a smoother finish - far fewer of those little ground in circles when a tool is less random-orbit than suggested. Vibration is significantly less than the little delta sander by Ryobi.Battery life isn't bad at all with a 5Ah battery. The dust extractor actually seems to work - it's not perfect by any means but WAY more dust comes out of the built in exhaust than I expected, which in turn means cleaner work, less dust to breathe in etc.Very pleasantly surprised.

Was a previous purchaser of a ryobi drill , so when my sander needed replacing this was my replacement. The cordless aspect is great, with a caveat, that being that you really need a larger capacity battery if you want to use for longer periods. I had 2x 1.5ah batteries(from the drill) which gave me 10-15 mins of runtime , but i was able to swap the batteries out and just charge the other while using the 2nd battery, so a 3 or 4 ah battery would be more beneficial. The sander itself is good quality, and fits well in the hand and doesnt begin to make your hand ache during prolonged use. the on/off button was fine for me, easy to reach and use. the little dust collector is great and saves some time on post sanding cleanup. The sanding pads attach by velcro and they hold fast when in use. Overall, very happy with my purchase

Another great tool from Ryobi. Decided to by this for some garden furniture renovation bas my 10 yr old Ryobi corded sander decided to go wrong. I can honestly say I wasn't disappointed. It's lightweight and very comfortable to use. Does a great job of sanding with the right sanding sheets. Obviously it won't get right into corners being it's round. By great for everywhere else.My only real gripe is Ryobi state approximately 45 minutes run time with a 6Ah battery. That's being over generous, I have 2 6Ah batteries and only managed to get about 30 minutes out of each. So if you are going to purchase this tool it's worth having 6Ah batteries at least 2 with a fast charger to keep you going ifyou are going to be doing a lot of sanding. All in all well worth the money.

I’ve just got into the ryobi one+ system this Christmas through a percussion drill and this was the 2nd product added to the impending collectionIt is a fantastic orbital sander which gets a fantastic finish on the first project I’ve worked with it ( a wooden pallet planter).Likes:- ease of use, such as sticking the sand paper down onto the Velcro, attaching battery and getting a great finish- feels very sturdy- did a surprisingly excellent job at collecting the dust in the bag- looks professionalDislikes:- battery life was only 15 minutes on the 1.5ah battery but I understand I should invest in a larger capacity battery so not really a product faultOverall I would recommend this to anybodyin the ryobi ecosystem or looking to get into it

I have several Ryobi ONE+ tools, so when i needed an orbital sander this was an option.I wanted to sand down an 300mm square oak beam in my breakfast which had a water stain on one face. This Ryobi with the dust collector has done a superb job. Light enough to use at high level, but powerful enough as well. Sanded down the oak well, great surface finish and I then used Danish oil and matt varnish ( applied by cloth). The finish is great and cannot see difference to original beams surfaces.Another good value ONE+ tool from Ryobi . Worth buying for this one project, but will be good addition to my collection, hopefully for years.

Bought for some ceiling and wall work. Dust collector around 80% efficient. I use a 2.5 amp hour battery and change out around every 20 mins. so loads of run time and charge time. Sander is not too heavy or too big. Much easier than sanding by hand.If you need to get into tight awkward places then this is not for you. But for larger areas i don't think you will get a better cordless sander for the price. This is my fourth Ryobi one+ product. Extremely good value for the keen DIY person. Not sure how good they would be for commercial use but judging by how much use i give them they would probably cope well.

This is a great little sander!Works very well with any velcro sand paper.I've used it to sand down plastered walls. When I brought this I read the reviews that it was very good and catching the dust. Not so with sanding plaster of the wall. You'll have to attach a Hoover to the outlet to make more dust free.Very powerful and did a superb job with a 4ah battery which lasted a good 30mins with ease.Shame the isn't a speed setting. It's pretty much vibration free compared to my old black and decker corded mouse sander where my arm ached afterwards.

This is a review of the Ryobi orbital sander.Let me start by saying this is a great tool, dose the job to perfection.Disc size: fits discs of 125mm (I recommend the dewalt 125mm disc)Run time: it last about one hour using a fully charged ryobi one+ 5ah batterie (retail price between £70 - £80)Variable speed setting: NoDust bag: Yes and collects dust just fine. (You can connect a hoover/ vacuum to it in replace of the dust bag for cleaner work indoors)Made of high Quality: Yes very strong and sturdy

I was in need of a new sander as my Black and Decker one was giving up the ghost. I opted for a Ryobi +one as I already have several other tools so have the batteries already. I was pleasantly surprised at just how good this Ryobi one is!It's much better than the Black and Decker one (even when it was working properly!) is lightly and easy to use especially as it has no cord. The dust collection works really well, a lot less dust.Would highly recommend this sander if you already have the +one batteries!

Great bit of kit. Had a small room that I'd reskimmed and I did all four walls in an hour with this. The ability to plug in to a vacuum is an absolute masterpiece of an upgrade from the old model which I also have. Reduced the dust mess to almost none. The vacuum handle was also helpful in guiding the sander across the wall. There's only two downsides. The battery is quite hard to remove and you'll need the 4.0Ah or 5.0Ah for any serious work.

It's very subjective to determine 'Value for money' so make your own assessment, but it is simple to use, easy to hold, very effective on the few jobs where I have used it so far. HOWEVER my small batteries (can't remember what they are 1.5 or 1.8AH) proved to be naff with this sander and quickly became flat. Get a 4AmpHour battery or one of the 5AH batteries. I'm using a non-Ryobi compatible and it works fine, so far.

Great sander does everything I want - but in short bursts. If you’ve got loads of batteries happy days if you haven’t you’ll be struggling to do any meaningful work done.I bought this to do re do my walnut kitchen tops. My Ryobi 2Ah battery lasts just under 15 mins and a knock off 5Am last 30 mins given how long they take to recharge I’m having lots of tea breaks. Wish I’d bought a plug in one.

Purchased to sand down an old table, very pleased with the performance, easy to handle and build quality is superb as expected from Ryobi.Run time on a 1.5AH battery is <10 minutes, I have two in rotation which is okay if you’re not in a hurry (charge time is 40 mins) but if you’ve got any big projects would be worth getting a 4AH battery or higher.

This product was bought to enable me to prepare door frames/skirting to repaint. Easy to use but becomes heavy with a 5AH battery attached. I have a growing number of Ryobi tools and the ability to use the same batteries on all of them is the main selling point. Not cheap to buy, but should last a diy enthusiast like me for many years to com.
