4.5 stars for this which rounds to a five. This is an innovative iron, very striking visually, with a stylish purple/white body and illuminated base station. The operating instructions are very clear.Fill the iron with water, set the controls and dials on the iron to the desired temperature (I always start with steam), plug in the base station to the mains and set the iron on the base station - there is a very sturdy connection of iron to base station and the base station is designed so you cannot miss the connection - no fiddling to plug it in.The light on the base station instantly glows red when the iron is charging, which changes to a flashing green in just 30 seconds- an indication that your iron is heated and ready for use.You get around 20-30 seconds of ironing time before the base unit flashes red again. This sounds no time at all but is exactly the point where you normally put the iron down, and adjust the item being ironed on the ironing board. If you need a few extra seconds, for ironing around a fiddly buttoned shirt front for example, you can carry on ironing whilst the base unit flashes red until the base station sounds a beeping sound to indicate that you must now recharge. After 5-10 seconds you are good to go again. Knowing you have a limited time before the iron cools down does speed up your ironing a bit, I found. The 150g steam and 40 g shot of steam seemed to take a little while to kick in fully, there wasn't full steam until after the first two or three charges. I've been spoiled by using a steam generator iron as my main iron for a few years, so it is perhaps unfair to compare them on this front. It's a solid iron, mid sized in terms of the soleplate, and it didn't seem to run low on water or need refilling very quickly. It has a good weight and a 300 ml capacity, no filling jug is supplied but the water tank is easy for fill and well positioned.Being cordless, it is completely suitable for left or right handed use. The ceramic soleplate seems excellent, there is a deep button groove for ironing around buttons and is easy to fill. It can be used also as a vertical steamer, although having to return it frequently to the base plate may make this a little time consuming if used on items like curtains. There is a water jet spray button as well, which delivers a fine jet of water for dealing with tricky creases. The iron was used on a range of cottons and synthetics and dealt with them well. A deeply creased cotton shirt needed both the jet of water and the shot of steam. I didn't get the same result as I would from my steam generator iron but it was perfectly acceptable.I was going to give this four stars but the automatic shut off, which kicks in after eight minutes, upgrades this to 4.5.I haven't owned a cordless iron before. Having had to replace a perfectly good steam iron some years ago when the flex wore out and replacing this proved uneconomical, I was intrigued to try this Russell Hobbs model and will be using it again when just 1 or 2 items need ironing, rather than my large steam generator iron.If you have a very large ironing board and problems finding an iron with a long enough flex, this will be a very good solution.Summary: A visually attractive, very sturdy steam iron, suitable for right or left handed use. Very quick to set up and use, with the advantage of an automatic shut off and good steam performance for its size.

This is a strange thing, this cordless iron. It reminds me of a kettle that must sit on its base to work. It is easy to fill with water, though no little plastic jug is given. The plastic base could have done with the cord coming out at the point where it would hang down to the wall plug but if you do it that way it is upside down for placing the iron on. It certainly heats up quicker than my steam generating iron. Wait for the red light to turn green and off you go.It is not too heavy to hold and irons well. You must place it back on the charging plate between iron sweeps and you will be told to by a red flashing light if you forget.Doing a short iron of t-shirts and two pairs of jeans it made a decent job of it but I did find that I'd moved the garment and was ready to iron before the green light was given, maybe just five or six seconds but a little bit annoying as you go on.When ironing a well creased apron, needing a few going overs across the wide bottom part, the base was flashing before I was ready to move the apron. It does say you can carry on for 'a short time' when it flashes but we are talking seconds not minutes. I think the base is a little on the light side but did not cause any problem. The dials and settings are as you'd find on an ordinary iron.Being cordless it will be very handy for right or left handers.A decent iron but lost a star due to that need for that short wait for it to catch up with me.

What a good idea! The cordless steam iron means that you don't actually have to get the ironing board out for small jobs, and you can iron things any way round without the cord getting in the way. I tried it for my normal batch of ironing and found that the results were not much different from the normal iron, and it took about the same length of time to do the ironing. You plug in the base and put it at the end of the ironing board (where you usually rest the iron) and then after each bit of ironing, where you move or straighten the item on the board, you put the iron back on the base and it charges. I did find it best to have it on the maximum setting so that it stays hot for longer. You are supposed to wait for 5 seconds for the light to change from green to red; I counted and it actually takes slightly longer than 5 seconds, but actually it doesn't really matter whether you wait or not, the iron is still hot enough. Everything else is about the same as a normal iron - the dial for temperature, the steam buttons, and all the rest. I was surprised at how much more expensive it was than a normal iron though.

Erm...yes. The title of this review was said by my co-worker when I announced I was test driving a cordless iron. With a squee of delight. If you're the kind of person inclined to such acts of ludicrousness then I can assure you, all your curtain-ironing needs will be fulfilled. You can indeed steam your curtains whilst they are still hung up. For those of you in the real world, you can also iron up a more mundane storm with this. It is a good iron. Not to heavy and with a good amount of steam this works well. It's surprising how much a cord does actually get in the way when you're ironing. I must say I didn't really notice that till after I tried cordless. Why not five stars?Well I found I needed to refil fairly often. Also some creases were a bit stubborn and needed several passes. Ultimately, the ability to make frisky with my curtains was less important than actual ironing quality. I recently purchased a Philips GC2045 EasySpeed 2300w steam iron which despite its tethering cord I've found superior, even though marginally more expensive. This is good, the Philips is better.

I was very keen to see what this cordless iron was like. Think of a cordless kettle, it's exactly the same concept. The iron is docked in its base and charges. The base flashes red when its charging up and goes green when it's ready to use. When you take the iron off the base you have approximately 30 seconds before it needs charging again. When I first heard that I thought it was ridiculous, but actually it's about right and 30 seconds is plenty of time before you would need to either move the garment on the board or flip it over. The only difference is that every time you put the iron down, instead of resting on the board, you place back on the charger. This also helps with keeping the temperature reasonably stable. The one major thing that is instantly noticeable for me is that with it being cordless it gives you a sense of freedom. It takes a little bit of getting used to, but now its second nature and I am really pleased with its performance.

Before buying I read a lot of existing reviews which were mixed. It still seemed the best option for us so went ahead and bought it. It took a little getting used to having to put iron back on its dock instead of closer on board when doing a garment. I don't find the heating up time lengthy, in fact I don't need to have it on as high a heat as previous iron so it gives sufficient time to iron before needing to rearrange garment anyway. Some of the reviewers seemed under the impression that as soon as the light starts to flash it needs returning to dock. This is not the case as it is still sufficiently hot to continue until it bleeps. To answer the people who asked the question "does it switch itself off if left" the answer is yes it does after 8 minutes.I have had no problems and being cordless has been a great advantage. I love it and would recommend it.

If there is one thing that annoys me about ironing, other than having to do it in the first place of course, it is the cord dragging across the parts of the clothes that I have just ironed!Fortunately, with this Russell Hobbs Cordless Iron, all of those little annoyances fade away forever. This really is a very simple and effective resolution to my problem. The iron itself is a normal, run of the mill type of iron that you would expect to get within this price range. So it does a very effective job of ironing a range of different clothes and materials. If you had to choose between a normal iron and a cordless one I would definitely recommend that you go for the cordless one.It is so much easier to iron without a cord.

My last iron was cordless but unfortunately was accidentally broken (dropped) hence me buying this product. After using cordless irons I wouldn’t go back to non-cordless as it’s so much easier. This iron’s stand is easy to place on your board and to return iron between use. The light up ring from red to green is visual to let you know charging/ed. I note people comment on length of charged time but I find this no problem as you - iron, put it back on stand to move your garment then pick it up and iron again. Even if the light turns red when ironing, the plate is still very hot to iron until you recharge to your heat preference. Charging is very quick so there’s no delay ironing.I would recommend this product.

I wasn't too sure what this would be like and if it would be strong enough to iron some of my drier, cotton cloths, however in the main it does work well. you plug it in and in 30 seconds you can be ironing,. There is a coloured band round the bottom of the charger and it takes about 30 seconds from start to finish to heat up. The steam setting is good as is the spray for tough creases. Once the red light shows at the bottom you need to re charge which takes about 10 seconds so no real holdups that I can tell.I am happy to use for smaller loads but I think for any big loads I would prefer a generator iron, I feel I have more control for a longer period.

Love this iron! I was forever running out of cord with my old one, but I can whizz up and down the ironing board with ease now! Yes it does need to be replaced on the holder frequently, but I've found this coincides well with me having to put it down to move the garments anyway. Also, you really don't have to put it back on the base the SECOND the red light comes on, you really do have time to finish the bit you were doing before it cools. It's lightweight to hold too and irons beautifully.

I have found this iron to be as easy to use as a normal corded one. Unlike other reviewers I don’t find the waiting for it to get back to temperature a problem but I do feel that because the base has a corded flex like a “normal “ iron It still gets tangled up, maybe not so much as if it was attached to the iron itself, but I wonder if I have gained anything by buying this particular model rather than just a normal iron. I have always found Russell Hobbs a good brand though.

This iron works great. It’s great not to be tethered to the spot but a short cord. It flashes green when the right temperature, when will go red when cooling down a bit, then will beep when it needs to be put back on the base to warm up. You occasionally have to be patient for a few seconds while it heats but I generally just use this time to adjust the clothing on the ironing board

This is my first cordless iron - I only use it for clothes (no sheets or curtains, which will require more sustained periods of ironing). For clothes, I find it much more convenient than corded irons - I will never go back to those. Would have really liked this one to be lighter.

My first time of owning a cordless steam iron and I have to say its been a great purchase, had it for something like 2 years now and it works like new still, I wouldnt go back to a wired in iron again, I really like this iron and recommend it.

Good item for the price. It leaks if you have it on the wrong setting as I found out (others have commented on this also but that's the reason and not a fault). Sometimes I work faster than the iron charges but I have got used to it.
