This is a basic jug kettle with a couple of nice internal add-on markers to clearly indicate liquid levels when filling, with the intention of being more economical in electricity use. It can only "save 70%" if one doesn't put in more water than needed, since it will always need the same amount of energy to heat the same amount of water to the same temperature. The push button release for the lid is handy and works well. It pours a lot better with the lid closed, with only a few drips running down from the spout afterwards. The angle of the handle helps to reduce wrist strain, but it could be still a little more inclined away from the vertical for the most comfortable feel and to best minimisethe effect of the apparent weight. The lead is not too long and any surplus can be coiled around inside the base to keep it tidy and away from small questing fingers reaching up from below the worktop. It only has a single thickness wall so will lose heat quickly, but this is not really a problem if one is only boiling the right amount to be used immediately. It only over-boils on first heating the water from cold, and if one reheats the water after a few minutes rest it switches off very soon after boiling again. We needed to boil it several times over a couple of days, discarding the water to remove the plastic taste; opening the lid after the boil and leaving it open helps a lot to disperse the unpleasant flavour.I've docked a star because it uses the nasty cheap and unreliable base connectors which burn away far too quickly (see the picture I posted for the damage on the base for the Villaware kettle). I've now had to scrap three perfectly satisfactory kettles, each after only a year or two, because of this type of connector - no joy from the manufacturers because we apparently 'abused the kettle by lifting it from the base while still boiling'. Try telling that to SWMBO. After a lot of research I eventually found a jug kettle which has a much better design of 360 swivel connector with robust contacts, this Kenwood  and it is lasting very well indeed.I was pleased that Vine gave me the Russell Hobbs because one can never have too many kettles, the modern ones are so prone to failure.

There are a lot of features that I really like about this Russell Hobbs Textures kettle. The 'Textures' refers to the fact that the kettle has both glossy and matt finishes, which gives it a distinctive appearance. The big plus point about the kettle for me is its no-splash spout. When cooking I often fill a kettle to its maximum fill level to quickly have boiling water for pasta, stock etc. Pouring a full kettle can be tricky as the water often splashes and dribbles, which can be dangerous. I poured out a full kettle twice in to the sink and there was no splashing. There is a fill window on both sides of the kettle, which is a sensible and practical touch.Whilst there isn't a minimum level marked filling the kettle so that a water level shows in the window fills it to a safe level.I liked the fact that the kettle is shorter and squatter than most, meaning I can fit it under my tap easily.I normally fill my kettle through the spout to save wearing out the lid catch, and this was simply done. There's a removable washable spout filter if you live in a hard water area, which is fairly standard now but useful. The square lid is smaller than most kettles, if you open the lid when the kettle has boiled for some reason a gush of scalding steam is minimised. The handle is at a practical angle to hold a full kettle without undue strain. As I fill the kettle from the spout the three orange plastic tags inside indicating fill levels for one two or three cups aren't so useful. Russell Hobbs measure a cup at 235 ml of water - I normally make a large mug for my morning coffee so two cups are needed.I tested the 45 second boil claim for a single cup, and this was true when the kettle was warmed up by having boiled recently. The on - off switch illuminates orange to indicate operation and is quite small, which is useful, meaning it is less likely to be caught and switched on accidentally if the kettle is plugged in.Summary: A well-designed basic kettle, stable and straightforward with some very good features.

UPDATE - my wife fixed the lid in, duuur, 10 seconds, so it's back up to 4 stars.I wasn't there when she did it, so I don't know how, if anyone else gets the same problem.(Bought from a supermarket, for speed, when my MR metal kettle finally and suddenly died on me.)My reviews are usually pretty fair (I like to think), and I was all set to give this 4 or 5 stars.OK, it wobbled very slightly on its base, or on a worktop when off its base, but that wasn't a biggie. And no condensation ran down the outside when the lid opened, and there were no leaks.BUT...Within 9 or 10 days, the lid somehow jammed shut and no amount of button-pressing will unjam it.It's not even slightly moving - as if it's been superglued shut.As our kitchen cold tap has a 'spray' pattern and the kettle spout's a bit small for tap filling, it's a complete write-off.So... that's just 1 star, guess.I'd already registered it, and am waiting to hear back from RH. I'll update if anything happens, but I don't think I'll want another one the same.Hoping that the black mini-freezer we also bought from RH 3 months ago will last a bit longer.__________________________Ten seconds later. This kettle is pretty no-nonsense and get's its job done very well. It's slightly shorter and squatter than most kettles which is welcome as it feels like it takes up less room, and the cord is a good length and can be hidden underneath the base. The kettle uses two differently textured plastics, which gives it a distinctive look, but isn't something that would change my mind about buying. It's a fast boil, able to bring a cups worth to heat in around a minute, and can hold a large amount of water (as much as you'd ever want for cooking I think (unless you're making pasta for 20...)The 360º base is really handy - I end up turning the kettle round to the same basic orientation most of the time so I can access the handle and switch, but it doesn't have to be exactly the same position, just so I can reach them, so it's a little quicker. There are windows on either side so you can see the water level all the time - helps with overfilling. The removable spout filter is a good idea, allows you to keep it clear by washing it out and cleaning it which can be a real life saver if you live in a hard-water area. The spout itself is a good design - I have no problems with spilling even when pouring fast. The handle and lid are well designed - the handle is a good angle and means I can hold a heavy load without strain. The lid is fairly tight, but I fill my kettle through the spout anyway so this didn't bother me too much. For the price this is a good product, does its job very well and looks good on my sideboard.

This is a fairly standard kettle from a trusted brand. It is part of the Textures range which means it has both matt and gloss white areas, something I am not too keen on, but it does give it a bit of uniqueness from all the other plain gloss kettles out there. Both surfaces can be easily wiped clean. The kettle is comfortable to hold and not too heavy. The lid opens easily via a button on the top of the handle, and you can also fill through the spout should you wish. The water level indicator is central and is on both sides so you can always see easily how much you've filled the kettle - very good if you are right handed but live with a left handed person or vice versa.I am not sure about the 'rapid boil'claim which as far as I can tell doesn't heat the water any faster than a normal kettle - the speed comes from using the orange/red indicators inside the kettle to only boil one cup's worth of water, which is obviously then quicker to heat. This doesn't work very well for me as I always need a mug's worth of water anyway (around two cups' worth), and also the need to look inside the kettle whilst filling it feels a bit awkward to me - maybe I'll get used to it.Overall though it's a good standard kettle and the price is reasonable.

Russell Hobbs KettleThis is a medium sized kettle made of plastic which comes with its own plugin stand which allows you to lift it on and off easily as needed. It's capacity is 1.71 lts which is enough for a good few cups depending on their size. On the side there is the usual tube marker with indications as to how many cups you have filled it up too. Inside there are also three red indicators for three cups which you can use as a guide for a more rapid boil. not boiling water you are not going to use. These I found a bit short as I think our mugs were bigger than normal, but for cups of tea, will be useful. The body as indicated is made totally of plastic and although it gets hot it's no more than any other kettle. On and off switch just below the handle. The lid pops open with a button on the top of the handle. To me the main advantage of this kettle is it is smaller and lighter which means that anyone with not so strong wrists, A more elderly person with the same complaint or just some one who requires a smaller volume of boiled water on a regular basis. I found that it boiled in approx the same time as my previous kettle which I was entirely happy with. A straight forward product which does the job.

I felt a bit of shame on myself spending £90 on a delongi retro kettle, only to find that it was just a kettle, like any other & that the chrome parts of it weren't actually chrome because they bubbled & flaked off leaving brown plastic exposed. Weeks after, it began switching itself off half way through boiling & grew more unsightly as the colour of the kettle was fading like it had been sat in a sunny window. Tesco refused to let me return it, the boy who served me when I bought it, scanned a different delongi kettle which was the same price due to a unrecognised bar cod & a queue of people waiting to be served so my kettle didn't match the receipt. Anyway,I read a few reviews & decided that I wasn't going to spend anything over £25, there seemed no point & I was dubious of metal/painted ones after my delongi melt down. Turns out this is a decent little kettle, not bad looking & boils water. If it blows up, it was £17, no great shakes. The only problem I have faced is my £90 delongi toaster has only 2 slots that toast & doesn't match. Big, fat, expensive lesson learned. Idiot

I'm usually not a big fan of white kettles, they can often look cheap and plasticity. However, this is one smart looking kettle. Not only does this kettle boil water quickly, it is also well-designed. Everything about its design is done for your convenience. The measuring bars on the side are clear and easy to read. It doesn't look like the measurements will scratch off any time soon (unlike my current kettle). The fact that there are two measuring bars (one either side) is a nifty feature. It means you can read the measurements from either side without having to turn the kettle around.Does the kettle boil quickly? Yes. Although like all kettles it depends on how much water it is filled with.To help with this task,Russell Hobbs have included some red tabs inside that will show you how much water is needed for 1, 2 or 3 cups. A handy feature. The lid opens easily (just press a button on the handle).All-in-all an excellent kettle with some great functions for a brilliant price.

When I first got this kettle and looked inside I wondered what the three red bits of plastic were near the bottom. Then after consulting the information with the kettle I see they are fill markers for 1,2 or 3 cups of water in order to use the least amount of energy if you only need to boil water for one or two cups. (the external fill level indicator starts at two cups so you only really need the internal one for one cup).It is easy to fill and also easy to pour and has a filter on the spout to collect limescale (if a problem in your area).Checking it with my energy meter it is indeed a true 3Kw kettle. It is thin skinned and light weight so the body of the kettle will get very hot in operation (handle stays nice and cool). The base has a cable tidy built in and the lead is 23" /58cm longAuto turn off works well when it boils (make sure the lid is shut) and all round I would say it is a elegant and functional kettle.

A very satisfactory new kettle. The design is inoffensively coffee pot shaped, nicely finished in matt and gloss white plastic, it is squat and not very high: it is an unobtrusive piece. it is not a design masterpiece, but more importantly there is nothing to dislike - it is, after all, just a kettle. In operation it all works well. the button at the top opens the lid which sprigs fully open automatically and there is an on/off switch at the base, illuminated when the kettle is heating up. Water boils reasonably quickly. It is reasonably quiet as it boils. The best point are the three red markers attached inside which enable you to fill to 1, 2 or 3 cups of water - a good idea as most of us fill the kettle too full when making a single cup of tea, wasting energy, which costs both us and the environment

Testing this as a free product from the Amazon Vine program. The essential appliance for every British kitchen, and at this price great value, even if you're just buying it for a backup.Clean lines, nice neutral white color and good capacity at 1.7LRapid boil really does take less than a minute if you just want that quick cuppa, and the removable filter helps with hard water build up if that effects your region or area.Fully cordless like most kettles these days the base stays plugged in, light in the hand, easy to fill, with see through fill gauge, and a no drip spout makes it good for tea or using boiling water for cooking. At under 20 quid you really can't go wrong, and Russell Hobbs is a well known and respected brand. 5 stars

We already had a similar kettle so knew what to expect, but this model has a slightly more squat design, and is slightly lighter - which is a bonus. It pours well, is easy to take in and out of the base, switches on when you press the button and off when the water boils, has a good clear water level indicator and looks OK. What more would you want from a kettle? There are cheaper kettles on the market, and we've tried a few, but they rarely last as well or pour as well. £20 seems a reasonable price for a good quality, good brand kettle. If you want your kettle to make a fashion statement then this won't do that, but in all other respects it fulfils its purpose!

A short, dumpy kettle that looks like a penguin. That was my first impression. Actually, I have to admit, I do like the look of it. The black colour is nice and sleek, the two texture material feels good but unfortunately it is a bit plasticy, not a big issue for a kettle at this price point though. The kettle is lightweight and easy to hold. The spout is good and water pours out easily.I tried the 45 second cup, it took 1 minute 18 seconds but that was straight out the box. I tried it again and it only took about 50 seconds, and I had a little more than one cup of water in the kettle, so I am impressed.Overall a nice kettle, does the job - cup of tea anyone?

6.3.2016

A smart, neat looking kettle that seems relatively small despite its capacity. It boils both small and large quantities of water very quickly, more quickly than my Bosch costing at last three times as much as this Russell Hobbs. It pours very well, absolutely no drips from start to finish, and it is very light in weight, good if your wrists are not all they could be. I find it hard to fault other than it might not be the quietest kettle, and it does wobble on its power base, but these are minor matters compared to its many good points.

13.6.2018

Very fast boil. Not too loud. Light in weight. 360 degree base makes it very easy to use.As the first none-corded kettle I have ever used, it is surprisingly easy to manoeuvre in a small kitchen like mine. The only antis are that the opening is a tad small (I use a water filter jug not a tap to fill my kettle) and the lid being opened by a spring button as being made of plastic, when this eventually breaks the kettle has to be changed because the lid will not longer work.Apart from those to small worries, it's a fantastic kettle.
