I remember playing Runaway A Road Adventure many years ago with fond memories. I quickly pre-ordered the sequel 'Dream of the turtle', but didn't like it as much as the original. When the final installment was announced I simply had to know how the trilogy was going to end, so I pre-ordered it too!I have found Twist of Fate to be better than Dream of the Turtle, mainly because the story is more entertaining. The plot unravels at quite a pace, but never too much to leave you confused as there are always clear explanations of the story by the characters. Indeed, there is an option to look back at previous story lines in the first 2 games through videos which you can access by pressing one of the function keys on the keyboard.I don't want to give away too much about the story, but the final game carries over from after the events on the island where Gina fell in the lake. Brian (the main character) is standing trial accused of the murder of general Kordmeier who has been stealing funds from the militaries budget so he can use the 'Trantonite' found in the Alien spacecraft that crashed in to the island's lake. Brian is sent to a psychiatric hospital on the basis of his amnesia, as he claims he can't remember much about the events on the island. He eventually escapes and has to clear his name of the Kordsmeier murder and find out who's the real killer. The story is captivating, and is perhaps the game's strongest feature. There are the usual inventory puzzles, which are never unfair as they are kept logical. There is a lot of talking in this game, which I found to slightly detract from the flow of the story as a whole, but it is never infuriating. There is a revamped control system, with all your inventory, load/save options, settings, story recap videos etc all contained within a floating menu that is accessed by pointing the mouse at the top of the screen, it is very slick and intuitive to use, an improvement over the first two games. For the first time, there is an in game help system, which gives hints when you want them, they never tell you exactly what to do, but instead give you small clues, but that's all you'll need. I found myself using this several times! The graphics have been revamped over Dream of the Turtle, so if you thought the graphics were good in that game then your in for a treat in this game. The game developers describe the graphics as a 'high budget animation movie' quality game, and so they are too. Checkout some YouTube videos to see them for yourself. I think I ran it in 1320 * 768 resolution on my High-definition Samsung 32" tv (although 1320 * 768 isn't high definition), and it looked really good. Although you will need 256MB of video memory and 1 GB of RAM to run it in Windows Vista/ Windows 7 (also runs in Windows XP with less RAM requirements), but this shouldn't be a problem for most modern PC's. The sound effects and music are OK, there isn't much music playing for a large part of the time, but it's appropriate and a lot of it is played by actual bands. If you have never played a Runaway game, then I would advise getting the first two, then playing this. If you don't like having to solve riddles and puzzles using items found in the game environment then this is clearly not the game for you, but you don't need me to tell you that, you already know. However, the Runaway trilogy is a great point and click adveture game to get into if you are considering playing this type of game for the first time, especially with the new help system in the new game. Seasoned point and click adventure fans would also be entertained by this game, and find it a reasonable challenge and intriging story. In summary then:Story 9/10: The story is immersive, and is explained very well throughout the game, but be warned, you need to have played the first 2 games before attempting this one!Gameplay 8.5/10: There is a new slicker control system, and the puzzles well thought out. The new help system gives out just enough hints to progress without ruining it for you.Although there are some iffy mouse controls at times.Graphics 9/10: The graphics have improved over the trilogy, and are a treat for the eyes. There is a new 3D rotating view system for each item in your inventory, very lush graphics here.Sound/Music 8/10: Perhaps the weakest element of the game, but the music is fitting to the gameplay and moves with the pace of the story.Fun 9.5/10: A Twist of Fate is a lot of fun, it will keep you glued to your monitor just because you want to see how the trilogy ends. Believe me, the ending is really good andyou will want to see it.Overall 9/10: A really nice ending to what has been for me, a most excellent point and click adventure trilogy. It's just a shame Twist of Fate was too short, and that the series has finally come to an end. Excellent stuff from Pendulo Studios! Definitley buy it if you haveplayed the first two or if you call yourself a point and click adventure fan.

If you've played either of the first two Runaway games you know what to expect, but Twist of Fate looks even better and has more enjoyable dialogue, more jokes/wisecracks and a stronger storyline than the 'Dream of the Turtle'. Brian is less of an obnoxious smart alec than in 'Dream of the Turtle' and the minor characters are well drawn and add to the storyline.I've just about finished this and found the story very good, the controls and inventory access easy and only had to revert to the excellent built-in help a few times. Silly combinations of inventory items are very few compared with some other adventure titles. Our PC runs Windows 7 and has had its problems running old and even some newer games, but I had no problems at all installing or running this. It's a bit on the short side compared with the first installment, or, for example, the Broken Sword series, but I picked it up for less than half price, so it's good value.Recommended for adventure game fans.

Without this Game you do not know the end of the story, called RUNAWAY. In the first Runaway you do have a little cliffhanger. You could put it away and say "well, so far so good". But the second Part: Runaway 2 - The Dream of the Turtle is so cut short in the storyline, that you need this game to continue the story. It is shorter than the other, altough I admit I played reading the walktrough. It could be longer, if you play without a walkthrough. But then there is a new hint system which helps you, too.All in all it is great fun, from begin to end. Have fun.

It's been a long time since Monkey Island and Simon the Sorceror ceased production, but we finally have an intelligent point and click game, with a fair dose of humour, in Runaway - A Twist of Fate. This is a good length game, with (fairly) logical puzzles and some laugh-out-loud moments (especially for any feminists amongst you).Thourougly recommended.

Excellent game, great graphics and humour is still there, puzzles are tricky but not impossible, the "in built help" does assist if you get stuck.Overall ties all the loose ends up and a very enjoyable game! Possibility of a fourth instalment?
