This vest is perfect not only for active dogs, but also for dogs who simply have trouble cooling down. We have an 11 year old cocker spaniel (Roger) with Cushings disease, which causes him to overheat easily, so he runs hot almost all the time. It’s very difficult for his body to regulate its temperature, and to keep him cool, we tried everything from full-body haircuts every two weeks to Kool Collars to wetting him down with cool water in the bathtub. This vest has been a complete godsend, and we wish we would’ve bought it much, much sooner. It successfully cools Roger down within just a few minutes — as soon as he begins to cool down, he stops panting, which helps him relax, and then he’s able to lay down (on his own Tempurpedic cool gel pillow) and finally rest. The only downside, although it’s a very minor one, is that wherever he lays while wearing the vest, the surface will get wet. That said, because it’s only water, it’s not a big deal because water always dries and doesn’t stain. If we have to deal with a damp couch cushion, that’s a small price to pay for Roger’s comfort. Before the vest, we had the AC turned down to 65 degrees for Roger, but everyone was freezing. Same in the winter, the heat was turned down really low, so everyone in the house was freezing except Roger. The cool vest has brought temperature balance back to our household, thankfully. For sizing, we ordered Roger a large. Although Roger is a breed standard cocker spaniel, the Cushings has enlarged his liver, so he has a round midsection (for example, lifting him is like lifting a 38 lb. beach ball with a head & legs). The vest is big & too loose through the shoulders, neck & armholes, but we knew that would probably be the case when we ordered a large. We had to get the large because we wanted the vest to comfortably fit around his midsection without being too tight, so the large was perfect in that respect. For the loose areas, just above his chest on the underside of his neck, we gather the loose gaping parts of the vest, and tie or hold them together with a piece of Velcro or ribbon (we don’t use a pin because we didn’t want anything to potentially come undone & poke or hurt Roger, and we didn’t stitch it because it would’ve made it more difficult to put on the vest or ring out the water, and we didn’t want to alter the intended fit in the event we ever use the vest for another dog in the future). If Roger’s midsection wasn’t so roly poly, then the medium would’ve been an appropriate fit. Overall, this vest was one of the best investments we’ve made for Roger, and it’s improved his quality of life. We highly recommend for any dog with similar symptoms like Roger.

I have a 2 year old ~60 Plott Hound mix named Murphy and we live in the humid, 90+ summer climates of North Carolina. This is my first summer with Murphy. Before it started getting extremely hot, we would do our daily walks in the early afternoon hours. Our walks are about 2 miles, with about half of that being in the open sun. As the summer kicked in and it started getting hotter, Murphy was barely able to finish our walks. Halfway through he would look up at me and be sluggish like he wanted to stop. Then when we got home, he would go find his spot on the cool floor and lay there for a couple of hours until his body temperature normalized. We changed our daily walks to early morning and later in the evening to avoid the heat but it also spurred my research for this kinds of vests, as I thought it could be good for him to have in general. Our first walk was in the evening and the vest seemed to work great but I wanted to make sure it wasn't just placebo from my excitement. So the next day I wanted to do the ultimate test - mid-day sunny walk. Here is why I believe it works great:1) He never slowed down the entire walk and never gave me "the look"2) He never looked like he was dying or couldn't breathe at any point during or after the walk3) He still went to his "spot" after the walk to cool down but was up and seeming normal within 20 minutes4) The cooling part of the vest was relatively cool to the touch 30 minutes into the walk5) He expressed no discomfort or awkwardness with the vest and acted like he didn't even know it was thereI hope everyone has enough sense to not expect this vest to keep their dog "cool" as if they're wearing an air conditioned vest. They're still going to be hot. But the point is keeping them from getting TOO hot. Dangerously hot. And I believe this does exactly that.Side Note: Some reviews complained about the zipper? Saying it seemed backwards or in the wrong place or something - I don't understand that complaint. Maybe they updated it, but the zipper seems just fine to me and I appreciate that it's cantered off to the side a bit and not going down the middle of his spine. We love this vest and would recommend it to anyone.

Obviously I did not actually adopt a second dog simply because I wanted another vest... however I am ordering a second one since I did recently adopt a second mutt, and my first goon absolutely loves his and won't share. My AmStaf, the dog I originally bought this for, is nearly completely black except for his muzzle and feet. Being a shorter faced breed, and as "solar receptive" as he is, he tends to heat up very quickly in the summer, and has a hard time cooling off. This vest goes a long way towards making him that much more comfortable.I find that the cooling effect lasts between a half hour to an hour depending on ambient temps, so it won't last all day while one is away at work. But if I'm only able to squeeze in a ride on my bike during the hottest hours of the day, with this my dogs can come along and run without cooking. The second animal I adopted is an American Bulldog who has quite an underbite from his face shape. He seems to pant even more than my AmStaf does as the temp rises, and I suspect the vest for him will be a godsend. As long as you keep up on watering the vest, it's easy to help your dogs cool off. The bright colors help to reflect and keep the sun off of the animal too.As for durability, the fabric is basically spandex, and feels like it might tear, but my Staffie hasn't managed to snag it on anything yet, and the areas that I mountain bike are full if thorny bushes and Yucca. I think the tight fit of the vest might have something to do with it staying intact like it has.Very happy with the purchase, and the dogs seem to be happier than me about the vests as well!

Pros:-Works for hours!-Very lightweight, does not add additional heat.-Seems to be comfortable, he doesn't notice it's there while running and playing.-Easy to clean!-Not really wet to the touch, either!Cons:-It's a little tricky to put on the first few times. I can imagine it's trickier if you have a dog that won't sit still. My dog LOVES being outside. He loves hiking and playing with his friends at doggie daycare where I work. However, he is a WHIMP about heat. Anything over 80, and he's hiding under a bench, panting, or laying UNDER a raised dog bed for shade..With this, he can do all of his outdoor activities and he loves them! I just dunk the vest in water and put it on.He can move around as if it's not there. And when I take it off him after playtime, it is still cool to the touch! He wore it on a 3 mile walk and we didn't have to stop and cool him down with water bottles like we have in the past! At the end of the 2 hour walk, it was STILL cool to the touch! It is also SUPER easy to clean! Like I said, he wears it to daycare... and he also enjoys rolling in mud...! I just pop it in the washer (make sure to follow the label for instructions!) and it comes out like new! I'm also impressed that once you wring out the vest like the instructions say, it doesn't really stay wet to the touch. I'm not sure how this works, but it's another nice property!I've recommended it to clients with dogs that overheat easily, too! It's a hit!

Update!!! After contact company through phone call they were willing to send me replacement sizes for both of my dogs. They also sent a shipping label to send the others ones back to them. Pretty easy and painless. They were very eager to help me. My smallest dog is 12lbs and the xxs is still a little to big in the neck area but its wearable. Great customer service prompt and very kind. Thanks for helping us out with this issue. We bought 2 of these for our 2 Shih Tzu's, 1 is 13lbs and the other is 20lbs, so we bought 2 XS and they do not fit either one of our Shih Tzu's, they are too big for our littlest one and way too tight for our biggest one. We purchased a while back, but was not able to try them out because our bigger Shih Tzu fell I'll and we almost lost her to IMHA, which comes on all the sudden, so she had to have 3 blood transfusions in a week in order to survive. We are hoping the company will still let us exchange these for the appropriate sizes even though it's been a while since we orded them, our biggest Shih Tzu really needs it because since she was on all the medications she has been hot all the time, she was on 9 different meds 19 times a day. Here's hoping the company will understand. Will give higher rating after we hear back from the company.

This vest worked wonders for my black, fluffy Malamute. With the summer heat he barely wants to walk down the street. With the Jet Stream vest he can comfortably walk a few miles even when temps are in the mid/high 80s. It can also easily be folded and put in a sealed bag if you need to pack it for later. The only thing I dislike is the zipper. It’s not a huge deal but zipping a fluffy dog into a snug vest is a pain. Not enough of a pain to pay $20 more for the Swamp Cooler which has buckles, though. The grey padded parts stay pretty wet for a couple hours at least in a semi-humid climate. The outside might feel dry even if the inside is still soaked. The orange back panel dries out in 45 minutes or so.Even when the panel dries the fur under the vest is much cooler than his exposed fur. The vest needs a really good soak for best results. It can hold a lot of water. My pup is 90ish lbs with a 36” chest girth and a 31” back length from the base of the neck to the base of the tail. The L was a much better fit than the XL. It was snug in the chest without being snug around the arms or neck. The XL was looser and much longer. I was worried the XL would get soiled if my pup had to pee while wearing it.

LOVE IT! My 30lb beagle/dalmation/cattledog mix gets over heated above 70 degrees F, despite being correct weight, only 2.5yrs old and extremely active. Some breeds get overheated, just the way it is. We live in Georgia and getting her outside for enough exercise is tricky in the summer. She had really been missing the mountain biking and hiking trips, and getting more tempermental from the lack of hard exercise. This came last week, and is everything it is described to be including size per size chart. It was even lighter than I expected! The zipper is a little hard for me to start when she is wiggling around, but not Ruffwear's fault she doesn't sit still. :-) Also, the zipper makes it possible to put it on under her Ruffwear harness, without taking the harness completely off, This is a huge benefit, since you have to take off, rewet, ring out, and put back on if you are out for a while. She is good about wearing things, eventhough she doesn't love putting them on. She was able to dismiss the feel of it as soon as we walked out the door. I have not tried the Swamp Cooler vest, but think this is perfect for what my pup needs and to mountain bike (fast run for her) for at least an hour.

I am extremely happy with this product. My boyfriend and I are constantly out doing something during the summer, this one was particularly brutal for our dog. We had an upcoming community day for Pokemon go and dreading having her out with us for 3 hours in the sun constantly walking around. So I got online and did some research. This vest does keep her so much cooler and it's easy to use. Not once did we see her become exhausted during community day. We have also used it to go on a couple hikes in the foot hills. The photo is her at the end of the 3 hour hike she's not tired and panting like usual she was ready to keep going and expolre some more. The only negative things I can say is the light blue stains easily and it dries far more quickly than the chest area. That's not really an issue for us since we usually poor water on her anyway to keep her cool. And the stains... She's a dog it would be like expecting a baby not to get stains on their clothes.I would definitely recommend especially for black dogs. That get too hot! It saved oursWe bought her a medium. She is a 27in chest and 15.5in neck and it's perfect for her

The large version for my 82lb, 31inch chest greyhound fits just right. It's snug, keeping the cooling pad against his chest wall and the whole thing in place. The spandex topside is very soft. He is noticeably more comfortable on the short walks I do during the warm weather. I haven't used this to push him much further, but it allows him to cool down quicker. Fifteen to twenty minutes and the pad is still damp. It's very easy to put on and take off. You just have to get the zipper started, then stretch the spandex over his body and finish zipping. I honestly didn't think this would work as well as it has. Wish I had this for the other greys I've had over the years.I suppose the swamp jacket with cooling pad all around would allow for longer walking in this hot summer weather, but he seems just as content with more frequent shorter walks. I think if his chest were 32+, the next size up would be a better fit.

I live in Southern California where it gets super hot. My dog hates the heat. She is black and if it's too hot, even though I wet her core and give her plenty of water, she stops a lot and doesn't want to go far.She is 56 pounds. The first one I bought was a medium and it was too tight on her. I'm not sure if this is a photo of the medium or not. I'm sorry! The second one is a large and fits her very well.At first she gets annoyed with it and acts a bit more angry when she sees other dogs, because I think it makes her feel constrained. But once we get going she can go for long periods in the heat and is alert and frisky and only needs half the water.I just make sure to keep checking it to make sure it is damp on the underside (otherwise it could make things worse)and I pour any water she hasn't finished, when I give her water, onto it so that it stays damp and cool.It fits under her harness.

Well, we got to test this on a short break in the UK where the temperature were consistently 25-30 degrees Celsius for four whole days. Honest it was.Pros:Kept the dog cool for 3hr+ in the carEasy to use and refreshIs compact, easy to store away when travellingCons:Per other reviewers, not a great fit. It bunches at the shoulders for our dogA bit awkward to put on, really need two people to help get it zipped up. The cover for the zip head is a hindrance and superfluous.Shows the dirtWhen it comes to measuring, our dog was 2-3cms within the upper limit. However, small did not fit her and I had to return and replace with a medium. Worth noting that the car seat belt harness fits comfortably on top,so I imagine a standard walking harness would do likewise.I would recommend this product, it's a better option than a damp towel if you're going far.

This is absolutely perfect for my dog. He is half chow chow so gets hot at anything over 65 and with the vest does much better on our runs and hikes. He is 38lbs with a long body and the medium fits him great, its a little loose but easier to get him in and out. The only complaint i have is that there was no zipper pull so i had to add a ribbon but really not that big of a deal. I have had it for over a year and its holding up well to our constant use, i have put it in the washer a few times since he kicks up dirt and sand etc. and it always comes out fine when i hang it to dry. I once tried to put it in the freezer so it would be extra cool for him since it was 100 but it froze solid so i dont recommend that, but once it warmed up it was fine again, no damage. Overall highly recommend for any dog owner that does any activity outside with their dog!

I cannot say enough about this cooling jacket. People were saying the zipper is flimsy and breaks easily. The zipper does seem a bit flimsy so I’ve been using it very carefully. However, the JACKET PERFORMS BETTER THAN I EVER EXPECTED IT TO!! MY Layla has 2 coats of fur, Border Collie and Jack Russell. We named her Layla for the Arabic meaning Dark Beauty. Layla is all black, 10 yo, and we live downtown Phoenix. So when we take her out to do her stuff, we usually take an extended walk. The best part is that she NOT panting on our walks and when you rewet it down, I take a bottle of water and only pour it on only on the jacket and I was absolutely shocked that her fur never got wet afterwards.Even my friend went onto Amazon and bought one for her dog and since we’re in the desert,we’re both using them DAILY!!

I have a medium sized service Dachshund that I typically have some struggles finding appropriately sized items for. She loves to go on long walks, but being that she's so close to the ground, she overheats pretty quickly in the summer. Owners of shorties, like Dachshunds, Corgis and Basset Hounds know that keeping excess weight off is paramount to a longer, healthier life, so this was a huge help in keeping Layla active year round. My only two call outs are that I wish you guys offered more color options. Layla suggests purple :o) The only slightly negative aspect is the material on the chest is a bit prone to piling if it get scuffed on rougher surfaces. This is definitely not a large enough deterrent to not purchase this product, but I did want to mention it.

I wasn’t sure about buying this but given the stretch of hot weather that we’ve been having I decided to give it a go.I measured my dog and she came up as xs but she’s a lot bigger than the xs suggested breeds so I decided to go for small, mainly because it was significantly cheaper.Thankfully it fits fine, it is roomy but not too big by any means. My dog was happy to wear it and I am very confident in saying that it really helped her feel more comfortable in the heat. I avoid walking her when it’s hot but this is great for when a walk is ok. You could also use it at home to just keep your dog cool. The one thing is that it really shows the dirt. The pale colours are not the most practical for a dog.But overall this is brilliant and well worth having.
