We bought this for our recently adopted second dog, who has basically zero leash training. A friend who trains animals recommended it for its design and durability. Our new dog is tall and slender and very strong. I originally bought a L/XL at a local store thinking it would fit her well. Highly recommend following the size guide for this harness and measuring your dog. Turns out she fits a M; I would not have guessed that but the L was too loose even when cinched to its smallest size. Very easy to use and to adjust, one set of buckles to clip on to the dog v. two sets on a different harness we use for our other dog...hubby can actually figure out how to use this one, ha!There is a sturdy fabric loop sewn onto the sternum area of this harness, which is helping our new dog learn how to be on a leash (essentially when leash is connected to that sternum loop, when the dog darts forward and pulls the leash taut, the location of the loop causes the dog to be checked or pulled off course, redirecting their attention). The one downfall is that even in a well-adjusted M with a snug fit, the harness does still twist and shift a little. So it's not like your dog is going to be completely pulled off course; however it is enough of a 'check' for our dog that it is helping her learn leash obedience. We purchased the bright red color and it is an orangey red, very visible against her black coat. Not sure that there is much that would actually reflect on this harness; the reflective trim gets lost in longer fur. I purchased the red to add extra visibility and safety and didn't expect much night reflectivity. The entire harness seems very well made, and is well padded without being bulky. I appreciate the little velcro pocket for placing an ID tag. The metal loop on the back of the harness is intended for use when not leash training, but if you have a dog that pulls on leash, expect to need to use the fabric sternum loop for awhile, not the metal loop at back. Although I am not the dog and can't speak to the comfort, she seems very comfortable in this and I don't see any areas where chafing or pressure seem to be an issue. She actually gets very excited when we bring it out, yet it has a calming effect on her once she's wearing it. Though we have only had this harness a week, it is already worth its money, as we are finally seeing some progress and it has been subjected to a VERY strong, active 65lb dog. I would purchase this exact same harness for a regular use harness (even if leash training was not needed) but do note there is no lift handle if that is ever needed. I can see why so many trainers recommend this harness.

So, my Husband wishes he'd bought this as a gift for my birthday next month as I was raving about it so much ? but, I feel that it is becoming increasingly rare to find something whereby the thought, attention to detail, functionality and desire to fulfil a need make you so happy with a purchase. My beautiful dog, Nasa, is a Spanish rescue dog. She is nature's own forever puppy with the face & build of perhaps a small labrador puppy, but the body (& speed) of a small whippet. So, in the 2.5 years we have had her we have tried collars and various harnesses and as we are an outdoor active family & she is a fearless investigator of everything in nature, her harness gets a workout! So we get through them. The only ones which would fit, were fairly thin & so didn't last long & also meant that she could wriggle free from them if she chose to, which only happened twice with two different harnesses but was concerning as she is just like me... Free willed ? and so... This harness is a total game changer!! First of all like a mother who puts those little hairbands in her baby daughter's non existent hair because she gets mistaken for a boy... I love this hot pink design so Nasa isn't mistaken for a boy...no idea why this matters to me, perhaps flashbacks to my own pigeon holed youth as a "Tomboy" ha ha. Next, you can adjust and adjust, not just around her armpits (?) where she is stocky but her teeny shoulders & neck. No more houdini for her!!! Then... The added amazing bonus that you can walk or run her with the lead on top or in front. No more pulling, which she would do out of occasional impatience when we walk, because she knows we sometimes run so she just feels we are clearly able so why not? Anyway, when she'd pull out of the blue you had to be prepared so walking was a little more High alert than it should be. Now, without any extra training, she just trots happily along since the option to pull is not available, it is almost a relief to her.... A bit like when you want a sugar fix and you're glad you don't buy that stuff because you'd eat the lot! Someone put time and effort into knowing dogs and so I can't recommend this harness enough.

This harness has been one of the best investments I’ve made so far. It’s sturdy, easy to use, and from what I can tell it seems comfortable to wear. I previously used a Julius K9 which was good in terms of durability but when I found out how they restrict shoulder movement and can potentially cause long term damage in the shoulders I decided I needed to go for a different style. This harness doesn't seem to restrict her movement at all! We’ve gone on many long walks and bike rides with the harness and I have little to complain about. My dog is aggressive towards other dogs, so I needed a strong harness with good control. I rarely use the front attachment, I feel like it doesn’t work that well.If you have a heavy puller it won’t do much in terms of training the dog to stop pulling. But for a little added control it helps. The attachment on the back is great! It’s held nice and strong so far. The harness on general has been great at holding when my dog has reacted to other unwanted dogs. It hasnt choked her (like another harness did) if she lunges, it’s very easy to pull her away, the ring on the back is not too far down, making it a lot easier to control her body when she reacts. I don’t have to worry about her hurting herself in the process now.She is not much of a puller so I can’t say how this harness would fair against a very strong willed dog who throw themselves into the harness as they walk. The harness is strong, that’s for sure, but this isn’t a restrictive harness that stops pulling. If you have an escape artist I would spend a little extra on one of the other ruffwear harness with three fastenings. If my girl really wanted to I feel like she could back out of it, although it could be due to her funny shape. Luckily I have a dog who doesn’t feel the need to escape from a harness, and when she has been close to backing out the harness has held. But if you own a very slippery dog, pick a more secure option.Overall I love this harness!

My little pup heels pretty well for the first half of the walk but pulls once he knows we are going home. Despite his size he is really strong so we both end up frustrated and me with a sore hand from the lead being wrapped around it.Additionally, I was worried he wasn't getting enough walk time but due to him being a pup, I didn't want to over walk him either. I felt the training time of trying to make him heel or go steady could be skewing how long we were walking for and I was right!I took him out last night and zero pulling. This morning he started to pull towards the end but there is no power behind it and so I am able to loosely hold the lead rather than have it wrapped about my hand.He pulls a little and this turns him ever so slightly, which he corrects and I reward him. The very last few minutes of the walk he pulled more but again, at no discomfort to myself or him.I increased the walk we normally do and whereas the shorter walk normally takes us 50 minutes, the longer walk only took us 45. So we will be getting more out of our walks now from a time and enjoyment perspective.Harness looks comfortable, although a little big. I measured my pup at 14 inches around the neck and 20 around the body. I bought the xs and its still a tiny bit big. I would expect this would still fit him when he is fully grown.Beautifully made and good quality. I am glad I paid the extra for this harness over some of the comparible cheaper ones. Pup seems happy wearing it too.Would have got all round 5 stars but, due to it being a bit too big, it twists a little more than I imagine it would once its a little tighter. Please note I have this on the tightest setting on his neck.Came with good instructions on how to loosen and tighten. My pup is a 11kg cocker spaniel pup. The green looks amazing against his red coat.

Tried many harnesses for my chunky 80lb 11 month old chocolate Labrador but none were ideal. They all twisted around his middle and rubbed the body behind his front legs or choked him when he pulled. The webbing straps which most harnesses are made of rubbed off his fur causing sores in some cases behind his front legs. This one is perfect! Very easy to adjust to fit. Once fitted it stays and doesn't loosen up with use. Strong yet soft padded carcass which extends up past the area behind his front legs so no chafing from webbing straps. It stays put and does not twist around the body. It fits very well, my boy seems very comfortable and much happier on his walks and looks smart too.I got the orange which is very visible at night and of course co-ordinates well with my chocolate Labradors beautiful dark brown coat!UPDATE: After a few days of heavy rain my boy developed bald patches and sores starting behind his front legs from where the padded harness sits. Even though we dried the harness thoroughly after each use. As the padding holds water and stays wet when out in bad weather it chaffed against his wet coat and skin. Also, the harness frayed easily after the first couple of weeks and started to look tatty. I'd say ok in dry conditions but not so good in bad weather. Takes ages to dry so I had to place inside a thick pillow case and put in the dryer on low heat to dry quicker. I now only use it as a car harness and moved on to the Dogmatic head harness for walking which works better for my boy as no more chaffing.

I have a Bullmastiff (called Boo) so I bought the biggest size. After adjusting the straps the harness fit really well and seemed comfortable on her. Now, Boo has only had a collar and lead for walkies so this was a whole new experience. Boo is also the worst walker I've ever had as a companion. She pulls constantly, zigzags, lunges at cars, people and other dogs and so the first five minutes of every walk is a nightmare as we make our way to the nearby feilds and has always been my husband's job as I can't control or direct her. THIS CHANGED TODAY! Today I received the harness after ordering yesterday. It came so quickly, so thank you. We put it on and went for a test drive. We put the lead fasten on the middle of her back and a miracle literally happened...She seemed to instantly recognise where I wanted her to walk and with a little guidance tug she walked in that direction and the pull, well she felt the stress on the lead and instantly slowed pace. I've never had a walk with less stress and resistance.Boo seemed a lot less stressed and so was more aware of where I wanted her to be and she complied so well. I'm so blown away by this buy they we took an extra long walk so we went past people and cars and although she pulled to the stress point of the lead, she fell straight back into line meaning no more lunging. Really looking forward to our walk tomorrow now. The quality and sturdiness seems really good and the straps are substantial. I'm really happy after one use.

I bought this because my Rescue GSD is terrible for pulling, I tried all the gimmicks and "trainer recommended" methods like the halti head collar which she just pulled until she injured her eye and a slip lead which she just pulled until she choked herself then continued pulling. This isn't my first rescue dog, I have a male HuskyXCollie who I trained to stop pulling with no problems, so it's not that I don't know what I'm doing. She just has a lot of issues due to the bad home she came from. I have used this harness on a total of three walks so far and there was an immediate difference. No leash burns from her pulling and me holding on so she doesn't run off. No choking or fear of injuries to her.She seemed immediately calmer with the harness on. She does still try to pull but I also have the Barkswell bungee lead so when she does give a pull she springs back. It also lessens the strain on my shoulder. The lead has a great handle right by the clip which works perfectly with the harness to give great control if needed. I also have found that I'm not concerned that the harness will break under pressure, which I was surprised about considering the clips are plastic. It seems to be very durable and well made so far. There's no fraying so it seems that some of the reviewers who had fraying just had an unlucky purchase and got the 1 in 1000 that have a manufacturing defect, which is bound to happen statistically. So far very impressed with the quality and results.

We have used a standard collar for over 10 years and recently due to surgery to remove a lump from the neck we had to switch to a harness to avoid the surgical site. We were fairly disappointed with the range available in the local pet store, but plumped for one that was oversized to avoid the site. Our dog was very happy with this and I found it amazing how much more control you have over them, the slightest tension on the line gets his attention. So I set about looking for a more permanent solution. The choices are vast and in so many different designs but after seeing lots of youtube videos decided to go for this one. It is the most sturdy harness I have seen but is also the most padded,so no issue with rubbing, in fact, when correctly adjusted it does not move on the dog at all and there is plenty of clearance behind his front legs. The best way to put this on for the first time is to slacken off all the adjusters and tighten it all up when on the dog. I found it very difficult to loosen the adjusters when on the dog. The ring on the top is very solid, in fact, I would say over engineered, but that adds to the quality feel for this harness. The only downside to this harness is that due to the additional padding it will take a little longer to dry after a wet walk, but I consider this a very small price to pay for such a great harness.

I bought this harness as I needed a new one for my staffy cross girl Egg - nothing wrong with our old Ancol one, but fancied the upgrade to match her new collar and lead :)This harness has not disappointed! Egg is a strong little mite and will pull and pull on the lead, she has to have a head harness to direct her where to go, she is also very dog-reactive so needs a bit more control whilst out and about and is always walked on-lead.This harness is ideal for her due to its padding around the back and chest area; her strongest points, and where there is attachments to the front of the harness, her halti feels more secure on the front as opposed to having it attached to her collar. There is also an attachment for leads to the back which is ideal for her long lead run abouts. We walked last night with the harness and she was as good as gold! It felt very secure when we crossed paths with another dog, as well as a few foxes! She seemed comfortable in the harness and looked wonderful! She also got lots of compliments on her new kit from our friends :DI have attached a picture of Egg with her new Ruffwear harness - it is now fitted properly so not quite as wonky as in the picture; I just couldn't wait before snapping one of her :P

This is probably my 10th purchase of this harness. I believe it to be the only harness with full adjustment on both neck and chest which allows it to fit my bulldogs perfectly without any chafing. My dogs have slipped most other types of harnesses including the big brand that other bulldog owners use but not this one. The padding underneath on the chest plate doesn’t rub as in other harnesses and also offers support across the length of the body if I need to lift the dogs in to the car. The other big brand has a strap that runs across the shoulders - no good for my dogs as it rubs and doesn’t sit correctly across the front of the chest, the design of this harness doesn’t and it also prevents my dogs from becoming too hot - as they do in the other big brand. Wear and tear - they are very hard wearing, one dog is only on his second harness in approx 4 years. Unfortunately my other dog has a habit of rubbing himself against brick walls. However, the harnessess do not fail, they just become a bit tatty looking which is why I replace them. They wash well and come up like new each time. I really can’t fault this harness at all and I have a cupboard full of various brands at great cost but I always return to these.

There is nothing ‘rough’ about this Ruffwear Harness! This is the second one I have bought, not because the first one wore out but just for a change of colour! The quality of product is very good. I’ve given it a 5* rating for comfort....not that I can categorically say that it is, because my dog has never said so! He has also never said that it is uncomfortable...The design is good, which makes it easy to put on (and take off) my dog. It is also easy to adjust the size to comfortably fit. The clasps are extremely sturdy. Security features are very good. The ‘link’ to attach a lead is very robust and a second ‘front’ connection, for a lead, could be useful...although I have never felt the need to use it.I am very happy with the Harness.....and more importantly I believe my wonderful rescue Staffie is also happy to wear it and to promote Ruffwear on his daily walks! He has had compliments, not from other dogs but owners!!I would highly recommend this product and have already done so to dog owners. This harness was in fact recommended to me by Happy Staffie Rescue, who do in fact have an Amazon wishlist.....no apologies for having the cheek to promote this wonderful Charity. :)

My pup is a staffy labrador cross with potential whippet in the mix, so he is extremely athletic, strong but also skinny. The 4point adjustment made it possible to fit his shape, although only just... (Using the tightest setting around his neck, and about 3cm from being at its largest setting around his chest) - he weighs about 16kg and I bought a Medium due to his deep chest. This harness sits really well, and my pup seems extremely happy running around in it, with zero hindrance to him exploring/sprinting/bouncing along/jumping on and off ledges.... He also seems comfortable lying down in the harness (pub visit after our walk),albeit this is only day one with the harness...The blue also looks stunning against his black fur!!The harness is extremely easy to put on, but I have to add that my pup is very patient, and allows me to put the harness over his head, and waits for me to finish adjusting. I could see this as being a possible issue for dogs that are less patient or nervous about their head area.

Purchased 10 weeks ago this is in daily use and repeatedly muddy and requiring a good rinsing. I had the size smaller until he outgrew it.Pluses ... well padded and offers good chest protection from the brambles he charges through. Rinses easily and drip drys overnight. Pocket for name tag. Very strong metal lead attachment point on the back. Strong seat belt attachment loop on the chest. Reflective strips are highly effective in low light. Size adjustments done easily if not on the dog and don't slip in use. Design does not effect movement in any way, clear of joints. Minimises pulling. Despite long term wearing (24/7 when we're away) has not adversely affected his coat at all either by balding or matting.Easily visible bright colour. Does not interfere with slip lead when training. Has no effect on swimming prowess.Cons ... difficult to get front loop over his head when excited. Already just starting to fray. Expensive. Dog tag pouch not easily found if dog gets lost. The cons lost the 5th star.

This harness is easy to adjust, fits very well and didn't rub anywhere. Initially purchased a green one in size S for my standard dachshund who loves to drag his chest on a pavement to get human's attention... Picture attached after 8 months of multiple daily use. Top layer of fabric didn't survive in chest area but harness still serves its purpose and that part is not visible during walks. It's been washed several times without any issues either. Brian came to us with a different type of harness and we could see immediate change in posture and how much more comfortable he was as soon as we put the ruffwear one on. It's easy to put over their head. Sand washed off easily, harness didn't cause any irritation during longer walks on the beach or in the forest. And it can be put over a jumper. It may be on the pricier side but it's really well made. Recently bought a second one for our miniature dachshund in size xs and he switched from a collar without any issues.

This is by far the best dog harness I have bought for my chihuahua. I’ve tried the mesh ones and even an off brand version of this ruffwear and none of them compare. He hated all of the other harnesses and would flop on his back anytime he had to wear it. With this harness he is excited to go and will sit patiently. It is incredibly easy to use and the sizing chart is true to size. I love that it has reflective strips on it, even though we don’t take him on night walks often, it is still a great feature to have! It is easy to adjust it to ensure there is a perfect fit, the girth part of it was already perfect when it arrived, I only had to adjust the neck/chest part to ensure a comfortable fit. There is an option to rate on the stretch of this harness but I feel it doesn’t apply. This harness even has a secret little pocket on the top of the dog’s back where you can put their name tag! This is the one harness my dog can’t get out of. Highly recommend!
