We like this; it fits our appropriately sized Ruffwear harness. I purchased this as we spend the summer backpacking in Washington state, typically experiencing high elevation gains, brushy/muddy/wet trails, granite boulder scree fields, and snow into mid-summer. This helps keep Mathis from scraping her belly and allows me to better assist her over rock/root obstacles by lifting. It can collect water and small debris between the dog's chest and the brush guard if the terrain is especially dirty/wet, but that's to be expected. I've never not used the Palisades pack without this, as I was worried about the straps digging/cutting into my dog or rubbing and irritating her skin as we experienced with a different pack, but I don't think I would use it without this for this reason. It really should be included as part of the pack/harness I feel... it's really necessary for us.

This provides the extra padding on the chest and abdomen that we need when assisting our 3-legged dog in and out of the car, etc. It is a little tricky adjusting the fit on the Web Master Harness with this attached, but we were able to get it and once adjusted, we just leave it as is. Our dog is a rear-leg amputee, so it is also a little tricky getting each of her front legs in the harness with this attached - she loses her balance when lifting a front leg. But we just have her sit and let her lean against us when picking up that front leg - easier than unattaching the brush guard each time. It is a good design and I'm not sure if any improvements are possible to alleviate these issues, and they are easily overcome. There is basically no alternative on the market and this does its purpose for us.

Perfect addition to the web master harness for safety when hiking on steep trails. I have a 14lb chihuahua/dachshund little klutz of a dog. The web master harness alone I did not feel confident that it would not hurt him if he should fall while on a trail and be held by the harness and leash. With the brush guard as additional padding and support under his chest & belly, we are able to pick him up for brief periods without any undue stress. The XS harness fits him well and this in the XS I did have to wrap some of the velcro looser as it is sized for a larger fit in the XS, but we made it work. While I bet this keeps him warmer - we won't be hiking those steep trails on hot days - I feel muchmore at ease with him in this harness setup and the leash held securely.

I have a 100lb Husky/Pyrenees and ill say that this offers pretty good coverage (i also love the sturdy material), however, i wish it was a little bit longer. It makes the belly (anti-Houdini) strap on the Ruffwear Webmaster Harness sit just short of his stomach, but it serves its purpose of protecting against thorn bushes and the like. Two warnings though - you will need to loosen the harness quite a bit, so if your harness just barley fits it definitly won't with this on. Also, if you have a thick coated dog watch for overheating in the summer as this paired with the Webmaster Harness covers most of their body (like wearing a jacket).

We have a tripod German sheapard the we rescued, prior to having her leg removed. We ordered the Ruffwear harness with the brush guard. The fit was great, our sheapard(Ghost) initially did not like it, but has come to rely on it. She has a difficult time walking on our tile floor, and was so scared of walking on it that she would try to run, and that would cause her only front leg to slip from under her. Now after us using the handle on the harness to slow her down, she takes it a lot slower and is building her confidence. She had the same problem negotiating the stairs, but that also has improved greatly

I have a very large chested pooch who recently lost a hind leg in a tragic hunting accident. I was using a ruff wear hiking pack that I altered to assist him in and out of cars and the straps started chafing his belly, I got the brush guard and it now pads the straps and disperses the weight more evenly! Happy dog happy human. Thanks ruffwear, my dog survived a life altering event and his tripawed harness has made the experience easier. This guard runs big my pooch wears an xl in harness and life vest but the guard is a slight bit big.

Bought to use on ruffwear webmaster during car rides. Standard car harnesses don't seem to work on my whippet. I use his webmaster in the car and hook onto a car tether. I want some more protection/cushion on his check in case of an accident. I bought the brush guard in hopes it would offer a greater sueface area to dispurse the force of impact in an accident. I think it will help some, but I plan to use it as a base to add some sort of padding in the near future, as there is unfortunately no real car harness made for sighthounds.

I got the Brush Guard to pair with the Ruffwear Palisades Pack. It works great and helps reduce rub on the, very, few areas the Palisades pack exposes on your dogs chest and rib cage. The reason for 4/5 is because the Brush Guard runs a bit longer than necerssary for the Palisades Pack. There is some additional room that bunches up the Brush Guard under the dog near the stomach. Otherwise it's a great pairing with the pack.

Loved the brush guard! It fit the RuffWear Harness well. I tried the duo on an older, wobbly Aussie to help guide her rear end. I had thought the brush guard would pad the straps across her abdomen. They did but the straps weren’t far enough back to control her rear legs. It clearly wasn’t the purpose and I had to return the harness and brush guard both but they were a great idea and fit together beautifully.

Another good Ruffwear product. Bought this for our big hiking trip this spring. Kept my Aussies chest and tummy safer from stickers and pokey things. I believe it also helped with pack stabilization. I have the small back pack so I bought the small chest guard. Attached the guard before putting the backpack on. It doesn't hinder putting the pack on or taking it off.I definitely recommend this product.

This guard can hold water the same way the chilling guard does, but it also has more support. With this support I can lift our dog up by the webmaster handle with ease and he can stay cool if we need to. The only problem is that it's easy to put on but it's a little awkward to stay on. The guard just provides velcro covers that you wrap around the harness, so it doesn't necessarily sit on smoothly.

This is fantastic. My miniature Dachshund loves her Ruffwear harness, but being so low to the ground she gets absolutely filthy. She loves to charge around the wilderness (such as it is), tail up and enthusiatic! The brush guard helps protect her, keeps her warmer, and then brushes clean with a stiff brush. Cannot recommend it highly enough, especially for those who are short of leg!

Bought this to give extra support when lifting my 12 year old border collie. It is wonderful. The dog feels safe when wearing it and I can lift him back onto his feet when he gets stuck with his arthritis. When he is ill I leave it on as comfortable for the dog and makes handling so much easier. When he is well we put it on for walks and for climbing steps or lifting into the car.

We bought this brush guard to keep our dogs cleaner, and I found that it made the harnesses fit better. Also my dogs have more support when we help lift them by holding the harness. One of my dogs is an escape artist who got out of all previous harnesses. So far, he has not escaped this harness, and I think that the more snug fit afforded by this brush guard is part of the reason.

Great product but the bottom straps didn’t align with the Ruffware hydration pouch. I got both of these products in a size small and it fit my 30lb Aussie very well. Other than that it’s a well made, very sturdy brush guard. Ready to hit the trails!!
