One of my cats was recently diagnosed with stage 2 kidney disease and, following a test shortly after, with FIV (which probably caused the renal failure as she is middle aged, not an elderly cat). She had gone from being a great eater to eating more and more slowly and becoming pickier, rejecting foods that she had previously enjoyed. Regular food is not really an option, the phosphate levels are too high and it was clear she was nauseous much of the time. Getting her to eat anything is an ordeal. I got a selection of Hills, Royal Canin and Eukanuba prescription diets and this is the one she will eat though I have to mash it up into a pate otherwise she would just lick up the gravy and leave the chunks. If she eats 50grams in one meal that is a big success (pre CKD she would wolf down 100g and then look to see if she could finish off any of the other cats food). Even then it takes about 3/4 hour to finish it. She also has the Royal Canin Renal biscuits which she likes. I would prefer to have her on wet only but I need to prevent her losing weight somehow. I thought I would never manage to get her on a prescription diet, she was looking ill and I was stressed out. I was trying any food to get her to eat but it was starting to become obvious that if I gave her a new food (non diet) that she seemed to like, within about 24 hours she would be hunched up, refusing food and looking generally unwell. She has been on this consistantly now for about 5 days and there is a clear difference in her demeanor. She still has a small appetite (I think that is her new "normal" now) but she is more alert and just generally more like her old self. There seems to be a perception that these foods are not tasty - my 3 other non-CKD cats would beg to differ. Given the opportunity they would happily feast on it and I did start to give them it (when I thought Ziggy was not going to eat it, having bought a heap of the stuff). The weight gain in two of them was noticeable quite quickly. I think the renal diet is pretty calorific so I'd advise not to feed your well cats it unless you want little fatties. Just hope she will stay on it now.

Well, it has certainly stopped the incessant drinking (and peeing) BUT my cat hates it. She's always been a bit picky but this obviously has very little flavour so she only eats a tiny amount. I give her the RC renal dry food as well ... she doesn't mind that but isn't particularly keen. Quite frankly I'm not sure how she keeps body and soul together as she eats so little, but she seems to manage and this has definitely done the job. I just wish they could make it more attractive in smell and flavour.Unfortunately my other cat, who has always been a dustbin, would scoff anything so it's a positive performance at feeding time, with a lot of swooping and picking up of plates,to stop the one diving into the forbidden dish whilst the other scoffs all the renal dietary food and I definitely can't leave any dishes down. Ah well, we live to serve!

Our cat has kidney failure and this item was recommended by our Vet, who despite purchasing from at a premium price, we have purchased this and the chicken version for some months now. We believe in purchasing locally, but after a recent 20% price rise, I decided to purchase from Amazon and in this case, a re-seller. Apart from the benefits for our cat, the benefit to me is that it is 22p a sachet cheaper than what our vet charges. So how about the cat? Well she took some time to come to terms with her new dietary regime, but after several days of coaxing, she now eats this and the chicken equivalent with relish and I am f=pleased to say that her kidney condition has gone from acute (high readings)to chronic (much lower readings) - yes she will be continuing with these products, but hopefully now for some time.Recommended

As our ageing Hyperthyroid cat now requires special dietary controlled food, this product has improved her health by leaps and bounds. As we have two cats and although the other is so far hail and hearty, she can't resist seeing what her sister is getting to eat, that she is not, so both now indulge in it! The 'healthy' cat has also benefitted; her coat is glorious and that's something its not been for ages. Royal Canin Renal is pricey and there's no getting away from that, so I just wish there was more variety of choice, since Tuna, Beef and chicken wouldn't do much for my palate either - but as a diet it's providing what it says it does, so long may our cats remain in good health!

The item arrived on the date they said it would - Thank You!My Cat absolutely HATES this stuff - but with Renal problems she has no choice - I love it cos I can see a marked change in her body weight and energy levels! However, if I put Royal C, out for her on it's own she will only sniff at it and go hungry - unless I mix it with one of her favorite supermarket cans (which the Vet said was fine to do) - I've found the best way to get her to eat it - is to mash it to a pulp and then mix it into her other food, it helps if the other brand choice is a "smelly" one, she still doesn't slap it up quickly as she would her other meals but at least she will EAT IT!

I have two 9 year old cats with kidney disease and they are both very happy with this food - all flavours . I also give them the dry biscuits version which they love the best but I like them to have wet food too. I am over the moon as after six months on this the latest blood test showed creatinine levels had reduced significantly for one of them (the other hasn't been retested yet) and she has gone from being classified stage two to stage one kidney disease. She is on no medication, just this food. Even my vet was surprised.Thank you very very much Royal Canin.

When one of my two female cats was diagnosed with Renal problems I ordered a small box of the same food but from another seller; I wanted to be sure that she liked it before ordering such a big quantity. However, the small box has not yet arrived up to today, therefore, I was left with no alternative than ordering this big box. Luckily, my cat loved it from the first moment. My Vet recommended to give the same food also to the other cat (of the same age and who does not have renal problems, as a prevention) and she also loves it. Recommended.

My senior cat now has kidney issues and needs special food. Always a gamble buying new food for her as she is extremely particular. Am gradually introducing it with her other food re the vets advice. One disadvantage is the chunks are very large. Like most older cats she has lost some teeth, so I have to stand cutting this up which is time consuming. Also there are not any variety packs which means I had to purchase several packs of different flavours at the same time. This makes if very expensive, which is possible the idea.

Thank you for saving me a fortune by not buying these from the vet I am on my second delivery and wish there was a subscription service to save more money and to not have to reorder. As I forgot to reorder and didn't have any for a couple days The quality is identical to the one from the vet unfortunately my cat will only eat tuna one and does not like any of the others. A mixed trial box would also be a good idea to find out which ones your cat will like.

Our cat seems to love this food so 5 stars from her. It is on the expensive side but when it's used as part of helping failing kidneys, it's worth the cost. As others have mentioned it does have a particularly strong smell! The packets aren't huge - we find ourselves using about 1.5 packets a day (with some dry biscuits in between) and our cat weighs about 3.5 kilos or so, so she's perhaps on the smaller side of cats.

Started out 10 year old (soon to be 11 year old) greyhound on Royal Canin Renal Dog Food following a diagnosis of chronic kidney disease (stage 2). He has now regained the weight he had lost and is back to his old self with increased interest in food and energy levels. Although pricey, I would highly recommend it. We combine the dry food with the Royal Canin Renal wet food which he seems to find more appetising.

My elderly cat has just been diagnosed with early stage kidney disease and the vets recommended this food. Well my cat loves it, she had lost loss of weight but in a very short time has gained some back and she is more than happy to scoff this food. It maybe far more expensive than 'normal' food but it's a small price to pay to help keep my cat as healthy as possible for as long as possible.

Of the 2 different brands on Renal prescription food we tried for our cat, this was the best as far as she was concerned. I placed a portion in a bowl next to her regular food and having been told that it might be difficult to get her to 'take' to prescription food, imagine my surprise when she actually tucked straight into it instead of her regular food.

My cat likes it - but he has always been very greedy. He does seem to have improved energy and fur since being on it - I am quite surprised at the noticeable difference. He didn't mind the Hills stuff either, it is a bit of a pain to order - no-one seems to stock all the flavours all of the time. Vet recommended it, cat likes it so 5*

My 3 year old cat was diagnosed with grade 4 kidney disease. After being on this food for a month it went back to a stage 3 which is great. She has now been having this food for 2 months, got to go for another check up in another month. She loves all 3 flavours. We are very pleased that this food is clearly helping her health.
