I rescued my cat from a student home where for years she was fed wet food (whiskas I think). She was an unsocial cat, not very affectionate or active...kinda depressed really. 1 month after bringing her home (we continued feeding her wet food) we discovered she had a bladder infection and a few weeks later serious renal failure, she was kept alive at the Vets on fluids etc for a week and soon after broke her leg in the garden somehow...she had to have that amputated and soon after was at deaths door again...the vets kept her alive and afterwards we nursed her back to health.2 years later we have a very happy, active, loving, healthy middle aged cat with the softest fur you will ever feel.We have fed her this Royal Canin since the day she came home from the vets, she stopped eating all wet foods except encore tuna & whitebait (she now has 1 pouch a week as a treat). She knows that she needs to drink extra water for her condition (cats aren't stupid, hard wired predators, they are intelligent, adaptive survivors) and keep warm. Over the last 2 years she has done a complete U turn from her illness, and her former life...I don't know very much about the biology of cats and the details of her condition, kidney's - food etc, I do know this is the only dry food she likes (because she knows it helps??) and she's never been healthier.

Originally recommended by our local vet as an alternative to prescription drugs when our middle-aged cat was diagnosed with moderate kidney problems about a year ago. We use it as a supplement to his wet food rather than a complete replacement for all his other food, as he's always preferred a mixed diet. Since he's been eating this Renal Special food it has been noticeable that he drinks less obsessively than just before his kidney problems were discovered. We keep expecting him to grow tired of the Royal Canin but so long as he has other things to eat as well he still tucks into it most days. We had the first carton from the vet,but since then have bought it online paying little more than the vet's price of a 1 kilo bag for a 2 kilo bag from Monster Pet Supplies. The only drawback to buying in large quantities is keeping it fresh, but by having a separate small container for day-to-day use, thus minimising the opening of the original packet, it seems to keep its taste for months. We certainly worked our way through the first whole 2 kilo bag without any waste and are now almost halfway through the second.

My 13 year old was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and the vet suggested these specialist kibbles. Five years later the CKD has not advanced at all, thanks to this renal special food. Few cats will eat the renal wet food (the taste must be off or something), but the dry food is a hit. The only downside of these kibbles is that, as with all dry food, there is very little moisture in them, so your cat will need to drink lots of water. Cats instinctively know this, so there shouldn't be a problem. If your cat has CKD or is even close to it, do consider these kibbles. They really do the job. I buy 4 kg bags, each of which lasts about 3 - 4 months. They won't harm a cat who doesn't have CKD at all and could be used as a phrophylactic, but if you're considering that, please speak to your vet first.

I have been trying renal dry foods with one of my cats recently diagnosed with CKD, as it has been problematic trying to get her to eat the wet renal food (either Royal Canin or Hills) and also trying phosphorus reducing medicines. My cats have never been large consumers of dry food, I put some down for snacking between meals. However she quite likes eating this dry food in significant quantities, which is immensely helpful given the problems I am having with the other foods. I would say though that it's perhaps not quite as tasty as the renal "Select" variety which she seems to prefer - these are small hard triangular kibbles whereas the "Select" is crunchy coating with a softer interior,a bit like cat treats.

I don't normally get round to reviewing things I've bought on-line but the effect of this food on our cat has been simply staggering. She's an old girl now and was having a few old age problems which you'd associate with kidney deterioration/failure. A visit to the vets confirmed as much and a renal food was recommended to 'help' with her issues. The improvement was pretty quick but she's got better and better as time's gone on. She's basically gone from being a cat that we feared might be on her last legs to one we think might well go on forever. Still as miserable as ever of course but you know what they say about dogs having masters and cats having staff!

...but it seemed okay to her, near as I could tell. Came promptly-enough. Fair price. Haven't bought more as haven't seen an offer good enough - so she's been on the Hill's the vet supplies.I'm using the on-screen keyboard, as she's on my lap. She just said "Meow!" - though she's not facing the screen, so I don't suppose it was a comment on the kibble. She gets a pouch-and-a-half a day of the wet food she's not supposed to have, and the rest in renal-diet kibble to strike a balance between quality of life and longevity. She's 18, and 2 years in kidney failure. And she just got down - to hassle for more wet food - so I'll take this chance to get a coffee!

I bought this because my gorgeous but ancient kitty was diagnosed with kidney problems. The vet recommended this so I bought some. She loves it and has has been In fairly good condition since. Not bad for nearly 19Only 2 small negativesIt is a bit “smelly” but that may be down to a higher protein content. It is expensive. She loves it so the smell is really minor and we are fortunate to be able to afford it, she is worth it anyway. For older cats, for whom kidney problems are very common, I would highly recommend it (but please talk to your vet first)

Thank goodness my picky cat quite likes dry food as she positively hates the RC wet stuff and hardly eats a mouthful at each meal. She doesn't mind this dry food but unfortunately I can't leave it down for her as my other cat, who has no kidney problem, is a dustbin and would scoff the lot. Luckily I am home most of the day so can pop the dish down when meowed at and she can have a little but often ... so far she has not wasted away and it certainly does the job since she is no longer drinking incessantly.

I buy these biscuits for my poorly little Mui Mui, who's got kidney trouble. She's a fussy eater, but she likes these. I generally serve them up soaked in a little warm water, just to encourage her to take in more water, and she does. She nags me for more biscuits.I've given five stars for flavour, but I can't personally attest to this - I'm taking the cat's opinion on trust. It's not the best value for cat biscuits, but if she likes them and they help her cope with her condition, then it's worth it.

I have two 9 year old cats with kidney disease and they are both very happy with this food. I also give them the wet pouches version. I am over the moon as after six months on this the latest blood test showed creatinine levels had reduced significantly for one of them (the other hasn't been retested yet) and she has gone from being classified stage two to stage one kidney disease. She is on no medication, just this food. Even my vet was surprised. Thank you very very much Royal Canin.

My ex-stray moggie had a thyroidectomy last year but has begun to lose weight again when he went for his annual check. The vet mentioned it might be his kidney function and that moving him to a renal diet could help. Immediately I purchased this Royal Canin kibble - expensive but he eats it and seems happy. I haven’t had him weighed again yet but he doesn’t seem any thinner and hopefully this should help a bit in the long run.

My Maine Coon cat Bonnie lost a lot of weight suddenly last year. The vet said her kidneys were shrunken like anold cat's. Ultrasound and blood tests were inconclusive, and this renal food was suggested. We are on a tight budget, but when it worked, I was overjoyed., then worried about the ongoing cost, until I checked out Amazon, who as usual saved the day x

Well for the flavour I have to leave that to my cats reacting because I'm not tasting these for a reveiw no way lol . My cats go nutty for these . They love them , the end up belly up on the sofa with a belly full of these with a smile on there face . Love the size of the bag and love the fact it's got a fresh seal to re seal the bag up each use .

One of my cats have been eating these biscuits for about a month or so now and what I have noticed is that he isn't vomiting as much as he was and he has started to put weight on too which is good to seeHe was sick every day or every other days and the past month I would say he have been sick three times I have just ordered another bag

Our cat, Bonnie was diagnosed with vague kidney related problems, and the vet recommended this product. It worked, and Bonnie thrived on it; surprising as she is a fussy eater! However, a small bag frim the vet's costs more than this large bag, so we were delighted to find this supplier and use them regularly.
