Overview: These are a set of cubes which show a different image on each face. The aim of these are for the children to roll them and put them in order to make a sequence ready for a story. The child is then to use their imagination to create a story based on those characters, props and themes.PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE ARE THE MAX CUBES WHICH ARE THE LARGER VERSION OF THE SAME IMAGES FOR THE ORIGINAL SET.Some images include: kicking, falling, shovelling, walking through a door, unable to reach something high, fire, laughing, thinking, carrying something heavy, drying clothes, cutting, choosing a direction, giving a gift, walking, dancing etc.Uses: These are a fantastic resource to use in the classroom or at home. They come in a variety of styles which will suit different topics and children's interests. In the classroom they can be used individually with children or they could be used as a whole group with each child having a different image to add to the whole class story (e.g. sit in a circle and try to add a sequence to the running story). At home, or in the car journey they can be used to keep children amused and stimulated throughout. They are:> Compact, lightweight and durable.> Come in a lovely presentation box to keep them safe!> Have a different image on each face e.g a character, prop or themes/ideas.> Have a variety of themes to choose from e.g. other imagination ones and a new batman one has just been released.Would highly recommend to anyone who has children or works with them! They are fab!!!! Many hours of enjoymentActivity ideas:> Could be used to help develop EAL learners language recall. This may include rolling a dice and the children in the small EAL group need to say the key word as quick as possible. The first child to say it wins a point.> As a whole class each child could roll and dice and then one by one go around the room with each child adding an element to the story. The key language once upon a time could be used and focused on.The children would need to carefully listen to all the other children before them to enable them to create a story which flows and makes sense. For example, if Child A had an image of a Girl, Child B had an image of a tree, Child C had an image of a happy face, Child D had an image of a Phone. Every story by different children would be different as the images could be interpreted differently but the children's story could go: Child A - Once upon a time there was a little girl called Claire...Child B - Claire was walking through the woods one day to get some fresh air...Child C - Claire felt very happy...Child D - Whilst walking Claire realised she had lost her phone...> Individually a child could use a set to create a verbal story which could then be placed onto a story mountain and then written into a story.> Individually a child could use a particular set to get them into role for a creative story linked to a topic. For example, the Batman set would be great for a superhero topic and would provide ideas of what language to use/what ideas to include.> If your a parents, these could be great for uses on a long car journey. Let the children roll the dice and create their own stories either individually or as a group if they have siblings.> I could see that these have the potential to be fun at family gatherings. For example at christmas they could be used to keep the kids entertained and i am sure the adults would not refrain from also joining in. This could then be used as a whole group to create a funny story.> For other ways to play, as suggested by the official site visit: https://www.storycubes.com/playLets do the maths:> There are 17 sets within 11 collections, some of which do contain doubles as a MAX version (larger size).> As each collection has 9 dice, they contain a total of 54 different images which can also be mixed up to create a unique story.> If you were to buy the whole lot that would be 594 images, however 162 of them would be doubles as they would be the MAX size (perfect for whole class as easier to view).> In theory if you were to buy the lot you would have 432 different images and then 162 doubles which would still offer extra bits to add into the story.>I love the way the images can be interpreted differently by each child - lets get them being creative!>The possibilities really are endless!

I have the original Rory Story cubes and use them in school to inspire creative writing. These are a fantastic addition or alternative for children interested in superheroes. You would be able to create a story with just these dice, or you could swap one or two of them with the dice in the original set to mix things up a bit if the stories were getting bit stale! The idea is really simple but so effective: you roll the 9 dice, and then use whatever images are facing up to create a story. The images can be used in any order and can be taken as literally or as metaphorically as you choose. I use them for an activity for early finishers,an inspiration for the start of a piece of work and for collaborative story telling too as you can take it in turns to weave one dice image into the shared story. Whenever I get them out the children love them and I think they'd make a great toy for imaginative children for taking to restaurants or on holidays as they are pocket sized and come in a little plastic case. These batman dice consist of some quite specific images:Characters:Joker, Scarecrow, Riddler, Clayface, Harley Quinn, Penguin, Two-Face, Henchman, Catwoman, gordon, Robin, Alfred, The RevealObjects:sword, crane, toxic vat, switch, crate, utility belt, tracking bug, gas tap, egg timer, newspaper, chandelier, bat signal, bags of money, filing cabinet, grappling hook, batarang, bomb, gas cloudVehiclesBatmobile, Batwing, van, zepplin, police carActions:running away, punching fist, cornered, tied up, bullet holes, explosionLocations:bridge, open window, secret entrance, factory, sewer exit pipe, alley, prison cell, Batcave, Wayne Manor, Arkham Asylum, Gotham City, docksI think if you didn't have some familiarity with Batman you would find it hard to interpret some of the symbols, there is a guide to what they all are included in the instructions (I wouldn't have known some of them otherwise and have seen all of the films) but if you weren't buying these for a big batman fan, you would probably buy one of the more general sets available! They could be a really great way to focus a more reluctant story writer, or to introduce tome peril into a child whose stories were a bit mundane! The dice are probably most effective from 6+ when children's language and ability to concentrate on a sequence of ideas is becoming more mature, but I would enjoy using these as an adult as a simple game with friends too. I love love love these and would really recommend.

Loving dice and discovering these - I just had to have some!I stumbled upon a video on YouTube where this game was being demonstrated by the inventors. (I'd never heard of it) At first, like most people I guess, I was a little sceptical as to whether it would be the success it appeared it could be when I actually came to have a go myself. We're all a little shy I guess, and so the thought of rolling random images on cubes, and then having to `link' those images up to tell some kind of story (which could easily be nonsense - depending on what was rolled!) sounded a bit embarrassing to say the least... However; I thought I'd give these a go; not least because I love games involving dice (and these are nothing but dice with images instead of numbers, and so were so appealing to me) and also the fact that the people I saw playing with them seemed to really to be enjoying themselves!Having ordered my set - I couldn't wait to received them I was so eager and ready to go - and I wasn't disappointed! The very first throw, gave me quite an amazing set of images that I was fortunate enough to be able to think of a `link' without too much thought, which was good, as I would think a bad set of images on the very first go might influence newbies into thinking this may not be a good idea - but as it was, because of my good experience, in the very first instant my confidence and imagination had both `fired'! I then was surprised yet again when introducing them to my partner, who doesn't really enjoy dice games as much as myself, and who I thought would be pretty hopeless at it - proved to be much better than myself!Okay; they are a little expensive (and dice always are) but they ARE excellent quality (and so they should be) they come in a very neat little box with a magnetic fastener, and there are `expansion' sets. All in all a VERY good product; a challenging and imaginative game that I think is good for both young and old alike, and particularly for elderly people, in that it would be a great way to be sure their minds remained active!Five stars for a wonderful, useful and enjoyable little idea!
