This light is bordering on too good to be true.It is surprisingly bright. Put it this way, we had it in our tent with a full-size camping lamp - this tiny light lit up more of the tent, and was brighter, than the camping lamp. The first time I turned it on, I looked straight at the LEDs as I thought the light would be wimpy - it actually hurt my eyes. One of these lights up and entire room in our family tent - it is good at short-range, bright illumination. Perfect for inside a tent. One incidental but great feature is that the hook fits into that little hole in the zip tab (that you pull to open & close the zip) on the door of a tent bedroom (well, it fits ours and I assume that they are all a standard size.If it doesn't fit yours, you could just put some string through the hole and make a loop). Firstly, this means no more waking in the night and wondering where the torch is. Secondly, you have an adjustable reading lamp (move zip to adjust position). Thirdly, you have a massive tab to open and close the zip.Using the hook, the lamp shines at a 90 degree angle to the vertical (hence why it can be used to read a book). The hook is attached to the lamp by a ball-and-socket joint - as a result the light beam can be pointed in any direction (i.e. if hanging it from the ceiling of a tent, you could point it at any of the 4 walls or anywhere in-between).The hook folds into a recessed area in the rear of the light. To get it out, just flick the light (I couldn't lever the hook out with my finger). The hook then pops out enough to pull out fully with your finger. These lights are sold under a variety of names (IOSSS, Rolson, Uni-Com) but all appear to be identical, save the Uni-Com one which has the bonus of a second hook (allowing the light to point at 180 degrees to the vertical, i.e. straight down, in addition to 90 degrees).Having bought one of these lights for a camping trip, I bought more - one for each bedroom of our tent & the lounge.Since returning from camping, we use this to double up as a reading light on our bed when needed (it is made from steel, so the magnet sticks to the headboard).Edit 26/8/14: These LED lights are evolving. Fantastic product, I have since been back and ordered another of these, and I think I will order some more yet! Nice and bright, small enough to hold in the hand easily or put into a pocket or handbag, which makes it perfect for situations where you want it to 'double up' as both a lantern and a torch, like camping, festivals (perfect for pitch-dark festival loos, especially as it has a handy hook so you can hang it on the hook on the door) or rootling around in the garage/shed after dark. It is covered in a nice matt black rubbery type of finish which is easy to grip and doesn't show fingerprints or marks. It is also magnetic so you can simply stick it to any metal surface - my brother keeps one of these stuck to his fridge door in case of power cuts (you know where your fridge door is, even in the dark!) Cleverly, the on/off button is on the opposite side to the hook, so that if you hang it up, the button is on the bottom edge where it's easier to reach when the light is 'up' in a head-height-or-higher position. The hook folds away flat into a recess in the the back of the light, and is an 'orbit' type swivel hook so you can hang it wherever handy then angle it how you want it. Herein lies my only complaint - the second one of these I bought, the 'swivel' part of the hook was a little too loose/moved too freely and so couldn't be 'set' at a particular angle. However this was a VERY minor issue given the very high quality of the light and the ridiculously low price (it was about £2-something when I bought it). Some cheap lights are just cheap and nasty; this one is a true bargain price for a light that really should cost a lot more. Highy recommended.

The Spender Family:Mum: Sensible Sue: Keep one on the fridge for power cutsDad: Thrifty Tom : Versatile item - torch, work light, camping, shed etc.Son: Shopaholic Steve: A 'must have' item for my 'man cave'Daughter: Crafty Katie: Great for using on close-up craft work - use the attached hanger, which rotates tooGrandma: Budget Brenda: use camelcamelcamel.com to monitor prices, bargain for around the home and as presentsGrandad: Practical Pete: Keep one in the car. Great for attaching to metal toolboxes, step ladders etc.Dog: Deefer: Whine - too bright for my doggy eyes ....This is an extremely versatile light. It does run on batteries but I don't know how long they last as mine are still going strong - depends on the usage. The casing is made of rubber which makes it fairly robust. It is magnetic and powerful enough to attach to fridges, metal toolboxes etc without falling off. The hanging hook is great for suspending it from things e.g. tent eyelets, the hook folds neatly away when not required.Another great feature is that the hook can rotate, so that the light can be turned in all directions. The 24 led bulbs are bright enough to use in many tasks. It's definitely worth having one or two around the house.

We purchased 5 of these lights from Amazon for our 1 week camping trip. They arrived within two days and when we got them we thought they were slightly small but after using them we discovered they gave us sufficient light in our tent at night. They came supplied with batteries already in with the little plastic tab ready to be pulled out before use which we thought was an added bonus (NB: the batteries can ony be accessed by using a small phillips screwdriver on the two screws so make sure you take this type of screwdriver with you when you go away). We used the lights for a couple of hours each night and they are still going strong. we would definately recommend these to any potential buyer. Also, they came supplied with a fitted hook so you can hang them anywhere in the tent and also angle them to a certain degree (the hook folded into a groove at the back when not needed) and there was also a magnet fitted to the back so if you didn't want to hang them you could place them on anywhere metal making them very versatile for whatever need you have. Also ideal for use in a shed, garage, camper van, caravan etc etc. Would definately recommend this product :-)

I have four of these lights, which I use when camping. They are wonderful, and I wouldn't be without them. These lights are very bright, and although the beam is more tightly focused than I would like, they are so cheap that the solution is simply to use more of them to give the required coverage. The 3 AAA batteries seem to last for about 50 to 100 hours of usage, which is extraordinarily good. They look like another plastic light, but are unusually well-designed and made. The back is held on with screws, which both keeps it secure and ensures that the unit remains sufficiently watertight to stay out in the open for several days of torrential rain. The restractable hook swivels in two dimensions,so it will attach to just about anything ... and the magnet holds the light so securely to the side of my van that when I drove away with 2 lights still attached to the vertical surface, they were still there after 20 miles on bumpy roads.I love these things, partly because it is rare to find anything which does its job so well, and partly becuase they are so tactile. All my friends want to play with them, and I fear I will have to start giving them away!

Well-designed and versatile, these little units cast a good glow. Four of these cost me only £9.60, including the free postage. They have three AAA batteries inside each unit. I bought them for incidental use as additional lighting around the driveway and garage area, to assist visitors. Once the visitors have left, the lamps can be brought back inside.A Philips screwdriver is required to open the back and pull out the tab that keeps the three batteries from discharging..Although the unit looks watertight, I took the precaution of applying black pvc tape around the body seam and over the screw holes before leaving outside. It casts a more even spread of light than a typical small torch, and has both a hook and a magnet for mounting.I particularly like the way the base of the pivoting and rotatable hook is gripped within the slot at the back of the softer body of the unit. This clever use of material properties reduces construction complexity. They will be handy devices to have in the event of power failures too.

I ordered two of these. They're for my glass display cabinets. I have a metal strip nailed to the top of my cabinets and because the magnets are of such a good quality, they easily just stay there, and can be slid across to different positions for optimal lighting. What puzzles me though is that one of them emits a white light, and the other one a blue light. It isn't really a problem, but prior notice of this by the manufacturer would have been appreciated.Likes:- Incredibly bright for its size- As I said, the magnet is strong, so I can vouch for that- The battery life seems good enough- Good build quality, and easy operation with a nice clicky on/off buttonDislikes:- You might find the light is slightly blue, but I haven't checked whether the brightness between the two "versions" is any different- It's a bit heavy, which might affect a few other customersDespite my 4/5 rating, I'm willing to say that there's nothing better on the market right now. Most alternatives are very much sub-par.

These are very handy little lamps in design. I find it handy to hook the lamp on my clothing to have hands free when using it or to use the magnet to put it ready to hand near my front door. It's nice and light to carry in a pocket or handbag and is not as bulky as a traditional torch. Also fits easily in car glove compartment. The rubberised finish makes it warm to the touch, easy to grip and pleasant to hold. The on/off button is just right - easy to operate, but doesn't accidentally switch on in bag or pocket. The most important feature is the brightness of the light which illuminates a fair area for reading or for walking.Since our local council have switched off a number of street lights on our estate,I've taken to using one of these to make sure I don't step in anything on the pavement. Also good for security to check dark corners while out walking.Haven't tried it with rechargeable batteries yet, but the (non-rechargeable) ones it come with seem to last quite a while.

This LED lamp might be small but it produces quite a lot of light - thus making it great for lighting small campsites, tents, or for use at home during power cuts or other emergencies. There is a powerful magnet on the back that can be used for attaching the lamp to metal surfaces, and the hook on the back can be used for hanging the lamp as well in a variety of positions. The lamp is also small enough to be held in hand, so that in a pinch it can also act as a torch - another bonus, besides being very affordable.Comes with batteries, but remember that you need to open two screws on the back of the lamp to change them, and when you first use the lamp, because you have to remove a plastic guard from the battery compartment - remember to keep your tools handy! It is a very simple, quick procedure, and of course, having screws instead of a loose lid secures the lamp against losing those batteries clattering onto the floor if you accidentally drop the lamp!

As I write 92% of people viewing this item buy it! Says it all really doesn't it? It's a 24 LED light that can be hung up via a hook on the back which you flick out as it sits flush within the back of the light. The hook can be positioned at any angle through 360 degrees so you can point the light anywhere at all from it's hanging position. There is also a strong magnet dead centre at the back so you have another option to fix it up. It takes 3 AAA batteries and is powerful enought to light up a room quite well. I've currently got it in my shed where it is perfect at night. It actually lights up about 30 feet square of garden very well at night. This could be used in the loft, shed, garage or anywhere light is required. I go walking/hiking and this could actually come in handy for some really dark tunnels, caves that you come across as it's so small and lightweight it could be attached to a bag, bike or anything! Great brilliantly priced product.

I have bought three of these over the years, not because they went wrong and needed replacing but because they are so useful that I like to keep one in the car, one near the consumer unit and one with my tools so there is always one handy. Very compact and bright enough for most jobs you can use the hook like a stand or to hang it up with and I sometimes just loop it into my jacket to guide the way, and it even has a reasonably strong magnet on the back so you can stick it to metal surfaces if required. It is covered in a nice tactile rubbery plastic that doesn't slip too easily and has a good positive on off switch. If there is one small drawback it is that you have to undo two screws to change the batteries rather than it having a twist lock or catch but it's really not a big deal. At Amazon's price it is ok value but I just bought the same lamp on ebay for £2.99 with free delivery and batteries included which is an absolute bargain.

I originally bought this light for use when I was camping, and for that purpose it was wonderful. It's brighter than the sun and has pretty good battery life (used at 7 festivals).Whilst I was at these festivals I used this light to backlight a cut out of an eagle for extensive periods at night, it looked epic, again thanks to the insane brightness and long battery life. That in itself is nothing new, all the reviews say this... but I've just discovered an epic use for these lights - computer building. My case is metal, these lights have very powerful magnets on the back - thus 1 or 2 of them positioned in the case means I've got no dark spots and can see what I'm doing.Nothing you couldn't do with a lamp or a decently powerful main room light, but still - an extra use and very useful for me.Also, if you're a robot you can attach it to your metal head and have the perfect reading light. Wonderful.

I was looking for a small, portable, battery operated light which would come in handy around the house in cases of a power cut or even when out camping. I wanted the lighting to be strong and bright and having read all the positive reviews left on this product, I decided on ordering this. Delivery was very good; I received the product in two days. I was very pleased with the quality of the item considering it was such a bargain. I must add that it came supplied with 3 batteries already installed in it which was a bonus. To activate the light you would need to unscrew the back casing first, remove the little plastic strip away from the battery to activate it.I like the fact you get the option of using the hook or can even stick it to metal services by using the magnet fixed in to the back.Overall, great find, fab product and excellent price :)

To be honest this was an impulse purchase as a result of another reviewers recommendation. On closer examination I saw that the item received rave endorsements from such a large number of people that for under £3 you couldn't really go wrong. I was not disappointed! This is such a useful piece of kit that I will have to but another unit - one in the car and one in the house. It gives a superb light for its size and my previous experience with LED's are that battery life will not be a problem. The unit is small enough to easily fit in the pocket and the fold-away hook adds to its versatility. The light feels solid and well made.Edited 28/8/11It was put to the test last night when we had a 7 hour electricity cut!The light performed superbly and neighbours had difficulty believing it was bought so cheaply. Another one ordered today.

I needed a light in my wardrobe as it was quite large and had virtually not lighting once opened. I decided to choose this as it was relatively cheap and had a hook which made it easier to place. The light itself is very simple, as you'd expect. On/off button at the top and a retractable hook at the back. It is battery powered, and I didn't need to change them more than once when I was using it. There is also a magnet built in, but I haven't used it so cannot comment on the quality. The only thing I'd say is that the light (bulbs?) is extremely bright and quite hard on your eyes. I had to squint when I was using it, but as it is an LED lamp, I guess should have expected this.Pretty useful to have around the house and has lasted so far, but I think it's probably more useful for something like camping!
