Beautifully packaged in card, with no plastic (extra green points), this 75cl bottle of gin comes with three botanical tonics. The bottles are very classy, even the tonics, and they have traditional bottle caps (not screw threads). The gin bottle is hexagonal and has a raised motif of cherry blossoms and the botanicals that have been distilled in its manufacture. The aroma of the gin is so good, it is so tasty, very fruity but gentle on the pallet. The tonics are perfectly matched for the gin, complement the flavour rather than overwhelming it or even diluting it, and each bottle will make two glasses. On the box there are recommended garnishes for each tonic and tips for how best to use them - I thoroughly recommend that you follow the directions as they significantly add to the experience. My wife thought that the bottle makes this an ideal party drink - where you want to show it off - but this is not a getting drunk drink. The flavour is much more than just alcohol, it is so sweet that you don't even want chocolate with it, because the taste just needs to be enjoyed without anything else smudging your pallet. My daughter said that she thinks this gin is too good to share and thinks it is ideal for drinking for pleasure when alone! This is an excellent present for someone who truly appreciates gin and you can be fairly sure they will thank you for it, It is also a good choice for yourself if you can't persuade anyone else to buy it for you. Don't drink qick to get drunk, drink slow to enjoy!

Although my preferred tipple is whisk(e)y I am rather fond of a G&T from time to time. I have tried, and been impressed by, whisky from the House of Suntory which is similar in style to Scotch and spelt the same way, without the extra “e”, but this is the first time I have tried their gin. This Roku Japanese Craft Gin is the first gin produced by Suntory and is export strength gin, at 43% alcohol-by-volume, and comes supplied in an attractive Japanese botanical themed 70cl bottle with a unique shape. This craft gin features some traditional gin botanicals, including the essential juniper, with coriander, lemon & orange peel, and cinnamon, among others, plus six (6 is “Roku” in Japanese)uniquely Japanese flavours - yuzu peel, sakura flower, sakura leaf, sencha tea, gyokure tea and sansho pepper. This results in a very pleasant gin which mixes well with my usual Fever Tree tonic to make a flavoursome cool drink that should be perfect when unwinding on a warm summer evening, when I usually drink my G&T. Perhaps not quite as special as I had hoped but at around twenty-five pounds from Amazon it is good value for the quality at the current price and one gin drinkers will want to taste for themselves. I'm not yet sure if this is a variety of gin I will purchase again, as I usually drink English craft gin, but at the price it is well worth adding a bottle to your drinks cabinet as something unusual for when your friends call by.

Very impressed by this. Right away, the hexagonal bottle (ROKU means 'six' in Japanese) with impressions of Japanese botanicals in the glass hints that this is going to be special. The texture of the labels hints are rice paper, with the printed Japanese characters. Top marks for visual appeal and potential as a gift. The aroma of the gin is definitely softer than a London Dry with fresh top notes that are suggestive of blossoms. At 43% ABV this is still a gin which packs a punch. With chilled tonic water, the full flavours are revealed; this isn't a G&T that needs 'ice and a slice', better to let the botanicals speak for themselves. It's distinct from a London Dry gin,but not so different that regular gin drinkers could be put off. In fact most would be intrigued! I would go easy on how much you add to a G&T, more is less with these subtle flavours.I'd welcome this in a G&T on a hot summer evening, and it's too good just to bung into a Tom Collins or Gimlet!

The Japanese don't do things by half, and this gin is a fine example of distillery and bottling skills - a beautifully crafted and presented gin with a very uniquely Japanese character. In the past, Japanese products were often criticised for being cheap knock-offs (just as Chinese products are now), but the Japanese take great care in their endeavours. Roku gin has a distinctly different taste to any other gin I have tried (and there have been many). Even gins which take their inspiration from botanicals from other parts of the World - be it India, the West Indies, the meditteranean, or anywhere else - are very different to the soft, clean taste of Roku gin. This gin is easy to drink, mixes well with fresh ginger and tonic and makes for an excellent gift, with its superb presentation, quality and eminently reasonable price.Very highly recommended.

I am predminanlty a whisky drinker, but over the hot summer we recent;y had I started to appreciate mixed Gin drinks as I found them more refreshing. I'm still making my way through different brands and mixes, so I don't have a great range in which to compare this with. On a straight sip I didn't find it that strong in taste, quite possibly because I am more used to whisky. When mixed with tonic I found I really had to overmeasure in order to overcome the tonic. That might be OK if wishing to get drunk, but not if you want to watch your liver or are looking to have a few drinks.Overall, I found it enjoyable enough, refreshing when chilled and with a little cirtus twist. Not sure a real gin officionado would share the sentiment, but for me it is one that makes it into my top 10, but might drop out as I explore the world of Gin.

I was a little put off by a craft gin from Suntory - it felt a bit me too, and Suntory are a giant. I mean, craft? Really? However, I thought I'd give it a go, and I'm glad I did.First of all, it's a gin with a lot of flavour of it's own. On the nose, it's very floral, but not in a bad way. I tried it neat and it's got a lot of taste, so I decided against flavoured mixers which might not harmonise well, and went straight in with the standard tonic from, well, you know who.And I stuck with that. Why spoil a winning combination. Whilst it's got a lot of flavour, that's not a bad thing. I took a chance with lime and that didn't go too badly, but mostly stuck to straight G&T and very nice it is too.I think it might make a decent martini with a refined vodka which allowed the flavour to come out.

I am not a gin connoisseur, it's something I drink every so often, but I thought this made quite a nice G&T, especially when you put the slivers of ginger into it, as suggested on the product page.On opening it had a surprisingly sweet smell, (I'm not going to say I could smell cherry blossoms!), and as I have a sweet tooth this was appealing. It made a nice G&T something I'm more likely to drink in the summer or autumn rather than the winter. I do think it had a slightly peppery aftertaste which wasn't unpleasant. The bottle is absolutely gorgeous, it's hexagonal in shape and the glass is impressed with the outline of cherry blossoms. If you know someone who collects bottles and likes gin this would make an ideal gift.Overall - it is a gin that I would buy again.

This Roku Gin differentiates itself by using Japanese botanicals (including Sakura Flower/Leaf, Yuzu Peel, Sencha Tea, Gyokura tea & Sansho Pepper) which do give it a distinctive dry taste, it also has a distinctive smoothness. It features a slightly floral aroma with a smooth slightly spicy taste.I tried this gin with my usual brand of premium tonic water and the recommended addition around half a dozen matchsticks of peeled ginger - it's a wonderful drink and all my friends that have tasted it love it too.Contrary to one or two reviews that mention this gin appears to be distilled outside Japan,my bottle explicitly states "distilled in Japan".This is a distinctive gin with a delicious taste and well worth trying - I like it a lot.

Never heard of Japanese gin ever before but so glad I have now. This gift set well I would call it that as it looks more like a gifting item to me. It’s well presented with a large bottle of Japanese gin along with three mixers to go with it. Not your usual run of the mill mixers though but ones thought out well to go with the gin and give it that extra wow factor. This is an amazon exclusive but if I saw this in a store would certainly look at it if thinking of a good quality gin gift idea. Now it might not be one of the cheaper ones but the taste and aroma of it whilst pouring then drinking out of this world. If you like gin this is worth looking at.It tastes of quality gin and looks the part too.

Nicely presented in the gift pack with flavoured tonic waters, and no issues with separate packaging as noted by other people's comments so would make a nice gift for any Gin lovers. To the Gin itself, a very nice full flavour not dissimilar to a London dry gin but with hints of tea and botanicals, enhanced with shavings of ginger as mentioned in the guidance. It is very drinkable and personal taste will determine if this is one of your favourites or just another Gin, however for a "craft Gin" I found the pricing competitive and will enjoy having a decent quality Japanese gin in our collection to indulge in.

I loved this. I had not had gin in years but that might be changing. The bottle of gin is very decorative making it a nice gift piece or just to show off in the home mini bar etc. Loved the three different flavoured tonics it came with but you need a lot more to accompany the entire bottle of gin.The gin itself has a smooth finish and nice flavour. The entire package, however, is a little let down by the quality of the box it comes in. The contents are heavy and the cardboard is too thin to keep it intact. Mine arrived with the tonics loose and in disarray and the box was torn.

Bought for my son’s 21st, as it’s a brand he’s never tried before. The bottle itself is visually appealing, so it’s definitely something worthy of gifting, just on appearance alone. The flavour is quite subtle, so if you really want to taste it, you might want to pour yourself a double ?The flavour is unlike any other gin I’ve tasted, it’s not overpowering or overwhelming, it’s really pleasant on the palate, & one I’m sure we’ll order again in the future, it went especially nicely with Fentimans Oriental Yuzu tonic water, which complimented the gin’s botanicals perfectly.

This is the best gin I have ever drunk - I expected it to be around £50 or more.Tried neat - yes, a bit of heat but then the flavours - oh the flavours - so fragrant and lasting on the tongue.Made a G&T and thought this is not the way to treat this gin - it was nice but deserves something more special.I shall definitely be buying more of this. Can't believe how affordable it is. I think I'll be treating it as a sipping gin while I try to think which cocktails to make.PS the bottle is hugely attracive , with 6 sides embossed with images. I may keep as a decanter.

Suntory has a good reputation in the world of whisky so I was expecting good things from this gin.First impressions are good with a very attractive embossed hexagonal bottle. On opening the bottle the scent of the gin has a fresh citrus note to it.Tasted neat this gin has a zingy mouth feel and a slight natural sweetness and no throat burn. With the addition of a simple tonic the citrus; which I assume is from the yuzu, really opens up but never overpowers the classic gin taste to become a citrus gin.Four stars because I expected it to be much smoother.

I've been a Gin fan since the age of about 15 (many years ago) and have really enjoyed the recent resurgence in Gin manufacturing. I saw this and thought if the Japanese Gin is anything like their Whisky then this should be pretty good... and it is. Price (at the time of buying) was cheaper than the local supermarket price and it was delivered the next day. If you like full flavour dry Gin then this is for you. Blends well with any Fever-Tree tonic (what Gin doesn't) and especially with soda rather than tonic.
