I have a much older version of this powerpack - a 40Ah model which has been in regular use for more than 7-8 years and has never let me down. Since buying it, technology has moved on and it was time to update to a model with LED lights and USB charging rather than just via an inverter or 12v lighter socket as per the earlier model,This newer model hasn't disappointed. It's small, compact, very portable, much lighter in weight and comfortable to carry via its moulded integral handle. There are substantial insulated crocodile clips fitted to the recesses on each end of the unit with instructions for a jump start conveniently printed on the reverse of the power pack - exactly where they are needed.According to the specification, the power pack will jump start an engine up to 1.8l. The only way to road-test this jump-start facility is to test it with a dead battery which, fortunately, mine currently isn't. However, the previous model certainly worked and I have to assume this does too.To the front of the pack is the mains charging point, 12v socket and easily-accessed fuse. In the centre is the switch for use with the jump leads and to the right are two switched USB charging sockets for charging any USB devices such as a phone, tablet, mp3 player, satnav etc. Beneath is a bright 4-LED lamp and a 3-LED charge status indicator for the internal 9Ah battery. The power pack is an essential piece of kit to carry in any vehicle, especially during the winter months when an out-of-condition battery can suddenly die without warning leaving the driver stranded while the lamp provides necessary light for an emergency situation while the 12v and USB charging sockets can recharge a phone. However this is not just for breakdowns and emergency use.... I use my powerpack year-round for camping. The 12v socket via an inverter can power a laptop or electric blanket for short periods and provides a handy power source via the USBs. It should be noted that this model doesn't allow for the powerpack to be recharged via 12v while driving and doesn't include an inverter as earlier models did. It's a good product to have on standby for emergency battery failures - but remember to charge it before and after each use and every 3 months to keep it on standby in top condition.

Firstly I have to be honest and say that I haven't actually tested this car battery booster yet. It can only be tested on a flat battery and none of the family cars have had that problem since I got it. However, assuming that it does what it's supposed to, you really don't want to be without one. Especially in winter and/or on long drives. It jump starts 12v car batteries in cars with engines up to 1.8litres - and we have all been in situations when we've needed a jump start and had to hook up to another vehicle to do it. With this piece of kit you are dependent on nobody else.It is compact and portable and fits into even the smallest car boot. So it will always be there when you need it.A word of caution though, it will only work if the power pack is fully charged, so you have to charge it up every 12 weeks or so if you want it to be ready to go when you need it.In terms of weight, it's not too heavy - 4.5kg, which is a fraction under 10 lbs - roughly the weight of a gallon can of petrol. It has an integral (fairly strong) LED light which will come in handy in all manner of situations - such as changing a tyre in the dark. It also has two USB ports which means you can charge your phone, tablet computer etc. when you are out and about, which could prove to be a lifesaver if you breakdown miles from civilisation and your phone is giving up the ghost on you.All in all a very worthwhile addition to your car's breakdown paraphernalia. Well worth the money.

This is a very good quality, fairly lightweight(compared to other ones on the market which are quite a bit heavier) battery jump starter. It takes about 24 hours to charge it for the first time. Though mine came with enough initial charge to use on a dead battery. After that you should charge it after every couple of uses. Ideally charge it after using it. However using it in the morning, putting it in your boot then using it in the evening after work for example as I did seems fine.It has an LED display to show how much charge it has and using it twice did not seem to impact the charge level but for safety sake I would charge it after each use. I would also say its not a bad idea to top up the charge every 3 months or so just to be sure.It has a very handy light as well which makes it easy to use in the dark as well as a little USB charger for charging phones etc. This could be handy if you are broken down and have a flat battery and flat phone I suppose. The build quality seems very good and its an attractive little piece of kit that everybody should have in the boot of their car. Forget about jumper cables and trying to flag down strangers, this is what you need. I highly recommend it as a good value product made by a reputable manufacturer. It should last a long time. All in all a 5 star productIf this review was helpful please click the yes button

A superb piece of kit - all cars should have one in the boot! This one is slightly smaller than some other versions of this type of device I have seen. It fits into a boot space very easily. The idea is that this is a 'booster battery' - it is basically a small, portable regular lead-acid car battery. You charge this device from the mains (plug in 13 amp charger included) and then you keep the device in the car or garage for when its needed - e.g. a dead battery in winter or if the car has been standing for a long while. It comes with two short captive jump leads. but they don't need to be too long as you can lift the device easily into the engine bay and it can sit next to the car's battery while you start the vehicle. It says 'maximum 1.8 litre engine'but this seems a bit arbitrary to me, as engine size is not linearly related to battery power or crank current. It started my 2.4 litre Audi V6 with no problem, after the car had been standing unused for 4 weeks. The bonus with the Ring RPP148 is you get a 12 volt car accessory socket, a built-in led lamp and a USB charging socket too - so lots of potential to help you get out of tight spots, for camping, travelling, etc. For what you get, this is excellent value for money

I had a similar powerpack I bought about six years ago, and although I rarely used it over the five years it lasted when I did it was priceless. Priceless is not too strong a word, because when you're about to leave for work on a frosty morning and your car won't start you can be well and truly snookered. If you roll start a modern car the catalytic convertor will be ruined by unburnt fuel reaching it - that has happened to me - and even if you have jump leads getting another car close enough for a battery to battery connection can be more than tricky.Essentially the powerpack contains a small battery, about a quarter of the size of the one in your car. When your car battery doesn't have enough oomph to spin the starter the powerpack provides a reserve of energy; just attach the crocodile clips to your battery, switch the pack on, and you should be good to go. Just ensure you fully charge it on receipt and every few months thereafter, and this powerpack stored in your boot will provide a cosy glow of confidence. Also, you get great a feelgood factor when you help another motorist restore their lifeless car to mobility.

This power pack is light at 4.5 kilos (considering what it is), and has the requisite charge to get any 12v battery going in cars with up to 1800cc engines. It has an integrated handle and is easy to carry around - although mine will be sitting in the boot of the car most of the time.It would be ideal for anyone who has to do a lot of driving, 'just in case' - I haven't seen one this light and compact before. It takes about 20 hours to reach full charge, and will hold it for three months before needing to be recharged. There is a power indicator system of three lights which tells you when it is full, half full or empty. It's very easy to use, and the crocodile clips aren't too stiff for weaker hands.A handy light is also available if you need it; I could use this very happily while camping as a USB charger/light if I had to.Other useful features include two USB power outlets (2.1 amps), and a cigarette lighter type socket, similar to the ones you find in cars.Useful to keep in the car. Very much recommended. You'll only really value having this when you need to use it. Quality item.

What strikes you about reviews posted here is that loads of people rave about it, tell you about all the wonderful features, but haven't tried it out yet! How can you give a product 5 stars because it looks pretty without actually finding out if it works or not! Well I have tried it, and it did work very effectively for me, although judging from other reviews it doesn't for everyone. Used it on a Nissan Micra 1.4 with a 10 year old battery that had lain idle for several weeks and only had enough juice to operate the remote locking. Followed the instructions on the outside of the unit (the printed instructions aren't that great) and it started first shot, turning the engine over very quickly.A few hours later I needed to use it again because the battery would not hold its charge despite running the engine for over an hour, and it worked first time again. I hadn't recharged it in the meantime. All the other bells and whistles are great but pretty superfluous if the unit won't actually start your car.

This is a must have piece of kit for all car drivers. It's a lightweight (4.5kg) charger which is suitable for up to 12v batteries and engines up to 1.8L. All you need to do is charge it for 24 hours and then just leave it in your boot for emergencies. You only then need to re-charge every 3 months. I think it is a must have as when you breakdown, or cannot start your car, how often is there another kind motorist willing to help you out. Often these things happen when there's no-one else around. Well with this you don't need them. You simply attach the crocodile clips and turn the switch and that's it. Your car is good to go. It also comes with a handy light to help you see what you are doing and a USB plug for charging phones.Great for cold mornings to ensure you can start your car without bothering your neighbours, and great for long trips for peace of mind especially with the added bonus of the phone charger as my mobile always seems to be dead.

Excellent product that is so much more than a jump starter. We have found this a really valuable addition to camping trips with its strong LED white light and capacity to charge 2 USB devices. There is also a cigarette lighter port. The main functionality of course is the jump starter - the leads can be neatly packed away at the side of the unit, making it easy to store. This can be used to charge 12V in vehicles up to 1.8L. Extremely handy when there's no other vehicle around to provide the charge and the light is a great addition for charging up on a dark day/night-time.Great, compact powerpack.

I bought this i as left lights on in my car while I was at work,I've done this a few times, my old car used to beep to warn me, my new one doesnt which is a pain, so when leaving work at 8pm on my own if it happens again this will be ideal, as wont have to bother anyone. So far not needed it but I'm sure it will come in one day, it's nice and compact sitting in the boot of my car, its light on it will be handy too, and not too heavy. Can't wait to use it ?

20.11.2014

This is a really nice, useful product that will really help if you get into a fix.I would advise keeping this with you at all times, especially if going on a car holiday or long journeyIt is a nicely made, quite small item and actually it is not very heavy either. The fact it comes with a light is brilliant for night time, but my favourite feature are actually the usb chargers! Great idea!

18.12.2014

A great buy this - a modernised, ergonomic charger that's much lighter and easier to carry than older versions. It'll charge any car up to 1.8 litres when your battery has died and just needs topping up every few months to enable that. As with all gadgets these days, there are some added bells and whistles and the LED torch and USB charger for phones are a neat touch. Excellent all round.

8.12.2014

You may not need this often, but my neighbour was delighted when I was able to give them this to try out when they woke up to a frost shrouded car that refused to start. It was simple to hook up, and within a few seconds, provided that vital spark to get them on their merry way to work. Definitely worth keeping to hand for those unexpected winter morning car problems.

26.11.2014

This is a useful piece of kit containing a 9Ah sealed lead acid battery which should be sufficient to start cars up to 1.8litre. In the video I've tried to show some of the features. The inclusion of a light and USB charging make this particularly useful, for example, during a power cut.I like it.

5.12.2014

Good to have in the boot for when you leave the lights on by mistake or on those cold mornings when some spark is needed. The USB ports are a bonus.Piece of cake.
