This Riedel brand new "Winewings" series, is so so so pretty, so beautiful, yet so delicate, and so fragile. The glasses in this series is varietal specific like many glasses from them, this is their specialty. They designed 7 different glass shapes for 7 different wine grapes varietal (3 reds, 3 whites, and 1 bubbly). I am seriously excited about getting this Winewings Cabernet Sauvignon glass and trying it out.I picked Cabernet Sauvignon shape as my first "Winewings" because if I can only have 1 from the series of 7, this is it for me. My favorite wine has always been Cabernet/Bordeaux, and I also found that this shape works fine with with other varietals too (even tho, in Riedel's eye,may not be optimal).I have been using Riedel's wine glasses for more than 20 years. My day-to-day go to, is a Riedel Vinum Extreme Cabernet/Bordeaux glass that I bought from Amazon back in June of 2003!These "Winewings" are created by Georg Riedel (the current CEO of Riedel), released just earlier this year, and they are absolutely gorgeous. Riedel had perfected the art of wine glasses. Riedel was established more than 250 years ago, and it is still a "family business". These Georg's glasses probably can't beat his father Claus J. Riedel's Sommelier series. Yet even though these Winewings are not cheap, they are still far from the Sommelier series ridiculous $125 per stem price tag.One of the nicest glasses I have ever used. Not your run of the mill wine glasses.Feels good in your hand, the stem is thin but strong. The bowl is huge, it is wide, so when your wine is in the glass, they are spread out with large surface area, allowing the wine to breathe, opening up the wine (this is the same reason why sommeliers use wine decanters).Looks good to your eyes, the crystal is thin and clear. These glasses are made in Germany. The shape is very unique. The upper part is the tried and true Riedel magic, designed to intensify and magnify the aroma of different grape varietals. While the lower part new to this "Winewings" series.Using these "Winewings" Completely elevated the wine drinking experience. These wine glasses are actually "dishwasher" safe. They said that they had test them for over 1500 dishwasher cycles. I don't know if dare to put mine in the dishwasher with all my other daily dishes, I haven't yet. I really cherish this Winewings Cabernet glass as a trophy. One interesting note, Riedel had truly mastered the crystal glasses manufacturing. These are "Winewings" are actually machine made. Pretty unbelievable!Lastly, these Riedel Winewings glasses are so epic, that it guarantee to put a smile onto any wine lover's face when they receive it as a gift. I already in mind a few good wine lover friends that I will be gifting them one of these glasses in the future (if they haven't bought it themselves first).Thank you for reading this review, I hoped that this review & the pictures are helpful to you in support of your purchase decision.

I've always been iffy on the notion of the wine glass shape having a significant impact on the taste of the wine. I think it can make a difference, but I'm not sure how much of one. Nonetheless I do own a couple of the inexpensive stemless Riesling glasses, as much for their form factor (the cats have to work hard to tip 'em over) as any perception of taste. I can get quite serious about wine -- we've returned from Europe with cases of German wine, and I don't blink at spending $40 on a bottle -- though I don't get super analytical, either.I don't have any (formal) red wine glasses, though -- my largest collection of stemware is hand-blown Venetian crystal, which my grandmother bought in the 1930s -- so I was interested in giving this Cabernet Sauvignon wine glass a try. However, I didn't realize until the box arrived that this glass (and do note that you get ONE glass) is HUGE. It's so big that it won't fit into a typical shelf in my dishwasher; the result is that it's gotta be hand-washed. The wine glass is big enough to hold an attractive small nosegay of flowers, and assuming anyone gives me such a bouquet it'd likely be pressed into service in that role. Which is not a criticism, just setting expectations about the scale of this thing.Positives: A set would look impressive on a dining room table. And it's sturdy; while you COULD tip this over, you'd have to make an effort. (I note that the cats seem willing to do so.)Functionally? I already had a bottle of good Pinot Noir open, so I poured a serving into this glass... by which I mean -- what I think of as "enough wine to accompany dinner" was a small puddle at the bottom of the wineglass. However, it absolutely worked well for a swirl-and-sniff, and since it was a nice bottle that was a good result. (I don't have any Cab in my stash at the moment; I don't like tannins enough to buy a bottle just for this review!)I'm not sure that it's worth the considerable investment in the wineglass. But I do like it. I'll neither twist your arm to suggest you buy this, nor warn you away from doing so.

I have several Riedel wine glasses, but this is my first from the Winewings line and oh my goodness.....the aromas are just insane. The trick to this glass is not to pour too much wine. Halfway up the "wing" is perfect. Give your wine a gentle swirl and raise the glass to your nose......but be ready, if you move in too quickly you might take in too much at once, lol. Seriously, something about the wing and tapered shape of the glass really concentrates the vapors and aroma so having to jam your nose into the glass like you normally would with a traditional shaped glass is not necessary. In fact, I found not even touching the glass with my upper lip at all was close enough to really be able to break the aromas down into all the various different smells. All of this being said, I still prefer to *drink* out of my Riedel Sommelier but for pure tasting this may be my new go-to glass. Also note the size of it. You can see in my photo how it compares to a 750ml bottle......it's definitely on the larger size for wine glasses. It's also a bit difficult to clean as it's so much larger on the bottom than the top but if you own high end Riedel wine glasses you're already use to this. Overall, I love it and will be purchasing a few more so my friends and family can enjoy all the beautiful aromas with me. Cheers!!If this review helped you at all, do me a huge favor and click the helpful button below. Also, if you have a question, feel free to leave a comment and I'll be more than happy to answer. I consider myself a wine drinker of both the great and the mediocre, and I have trusted Reidel glassware for all of my bar needs for quite some time. Reidel is the first name of distinction when choosing any wine glassware, and the new Winewings line – specifically this new Cabernet Sauvignon glass that I got – is truly the nonpareil of red wine tasting glasses. The glass arrives in a well-packed, safe box, and is ready to go right out of the box – no stickers or other nonsense. A quick rinse, and a fill with bold red wine, and you immediately can see even with the pour the vibrancy with which the wine aerates at the bulged bottom. Swirling the wine allows for a great deal of surface area, and the aroma can be sniffed at the side of the glass or by dipping your entire nose and mouth toward the wide rim. The bouquet of the wine is ever present as you sip, and ultimately results in what might be the most perfect glass of red wine. This is an expensive piece, so understand that at this price point you aren’t getting your every night sort of glassware, but the nice bottle and an experience glassware. An absolute pleasure. A perfect pour. A great experience.

I've purchased Riedel glasses for as long as I can remember and I've broken Riedel glasses for as long as I can remember. More on that later. To my knowledge, no one puts as much effort into the science of producing wine glasses as Riedel. They are looking for elegant shapes and designs that are beautiful to look at and that enhance the wine's flavor. This might be their best glass yet. It's probably their best design. The glass is large. The's a bulbous part at the bottom of the glass that flares out, allowing a lot of the wine to spread out over a large surface area. This enhances the flavor and aroma of the wine, as does the narrowed opening which tends to accentuate and concentrate those aromas.I also like the fact that the glasses are lightweight and well-balanced.So what's not to like? Not much. They're a bit on the expensive side and quite fragile. I've broken a lot of Riedel glasses over the years even with careful handling and hand washing. So, the glasses are 5 star rated with one star removed due to price and fragility. 4 star rated and highly recommended.

I own the Cabernet, Sav Blanc, and Champagne versions of these glasses. As others have mentioned, these are fine glasses and require utmost gentle care. I have not broken any but I can definitely acknowledge that, if not paying attention, it will be easy to break them. All three are outstanding at highlighting the aromatic characteristics of the wine. However, I must admit, when it comes to champagne, I prefer the taller flute glasses that allow better appreciation of the bubbles. These glasses are flat bottomed and as such, for champagne, they offer very limited visual appreciation of what makes champagne special... that is the bubbles. So,I have reverted to using the updated versions of the flute that allow wider glasses that open at the middle and close at the top. For champagne, this is a radical re-design of the glass that just did not work for me.

It's hard to describe to someone who doesn't geek out about wine, the fun and immense pleasure one feels when drinking from the appropriate glass. I don't collect much, but I do covet the perfect glass for the varietal. I've been a fan of Reidel for about 20 yrs. They have great quality control, they are always delicate and pure, and enhance any wine enjoyed from them. So, I was intrigued by the new shape of this Bordeaux glass. The bottom flared out a little bit and the top was wider than I was used to. Plus, it looked a bit like Homer Simpson's Dads nose. I'm very happy to say that the glass performed perfectly. My red opened up lusciously! The stem on this glass is long and the bulb holds a massive amount, though I only poured about 4 oz glass. It feels decadent, your wine tastes decadent and it looks like a piece of art.

I walked into a glass-focused wine tasting with a little skepticism. Could a wine glass really make that much difference? And the answer is a strong yes. I was amazed at how the shape and quality of a glass can affect a wine’s aroma and flavor. In a nutshell, the correct wine glass lets a wine soar. (Also, stay far away from those heavy banquet goblets.) This option, the Riedel Winewings Cabernet Sauvignon glass, is a great choice. The glass has a very wide and stretched bowl. It’s beautiful, delicate, and leans big. I’m enjoying my wine immensely. Riedel has their name etched on the base, but for this new model they also have “Cabernet Sauvignon” etched (very small)as well - a great help to distinguish between glasses. This glass can go in the dishwasher, but I will wash it by hand. Crystal glass. Made in Germany.

Nothing really can give you an experience of drinking out of these BIG WINE glasses unless you try it for yourself. It really allows you to smell the aroma of the wine in ways I don’t think I’ve ever smelled wine before.I really understand why in the most expensive restaurants they give you huge wine glasses. Then you go home and say for years the best wine I drank was in that restaurant. Maybe it wasn’t the bottle itself, maybe it was the combination of the bottle and the glass? This wine glass is so thin, you can see through it, the stem is incredibly thin as well it’s just completes the whole presentation. It’s incredibly beautiful box too.My review for Riedel Winewings Cabernet Sauvignon Wine Glass,Single Stem, Clear.

I got the chardonnay glass. The brand and the word "chardonnay" were etched on the bottom of the glass. They also have glasses for other varietals like cabernet, pinot noir, sauvignon blanc and more. They kind of look similar. the etching does help to distinguish one from the others. It came in beautifully designed box that protect the glass and at the same time look attractive enough for gifting. The glass is very thin and clear. It is bigger and taller than the regular wine glass. Looks impressive on the table.Very beautiful wine glass. It is quite expensive but I think I am going to get the rest of the set since they look so cool. :)

Sadly I am not a qualified wine snob, however, I do know when a wine glass brings an atmosphere and the occasion made even more special and enjoyable. This is a beautiful, unique glass with a real function to help the flavor and aroma of the wine in the wider bottom of the glass from other glasses. I also can NOT resist dipping my finger in the wine and running it around the rim to hear the glass sing to me. Has a comfortable and lovely stem and I feel like royalty drinking my good wine both the reds and the whites in premium quality Riedel German-made stemware.

I have been using Riedel for well over two decades. I am a sceptic. I treat glassware as I do stereo cables and interconnects. I must hear and here, I must taste. This chardonnay glass moves away from the previous generation of fat, buttery and fruity chardonnay. I taste more of the mineral quality. This Wings line cannot replace for me his father's Sommeliers line. I truly want both.I expect to taste better, flinty Frascati with this glass shape.I was prepared to be disappointed, yet I was not. Even now, Riedel believes form follows function.

Riedel Winewings Cabernet Sauvignon Wine Glass, Single Stem, ClearSo I don't think my husband understood exactly what this SINGLE glass was going to be - it is HUGE!Riedel's packaging is really cute- make sure you hold it by the top handle and keep both sides together, he almost dropped it (it opens like a clam face up). The glass is GINORMOUS.There are a lot of other high reviews from wine aficionados, which my husband and I definitely are not. Is it big? Yes. Is it impressive? Yes. Should you buy this for your wine loving friend? Absolutely.

I was so amazed by this glass that I decided to gift it to a wine aficionado friend. He also loved it. It must be handled delicately since the crystal is really fine. Probably due to it, the temperature of the wine is kept very steady, the transparency of the color of the wine can be appreciated without interference and it feels very elegant in the hands. The shape helps to aireate the wine and get the most flavor. It is also very beautiful and unique. A wonderful gift for the holidays for those who appreciate and enjoy wine.

I thought it was silly and would never make a big difference to have the glasses shaped differently.....boy was I wrong! Because of the unique shapes, they hit your palate at different areas and truly bring out the different flavors and unique characteristics of each wine! The same wine will taste different in each glass! I noticed more changes in the reds than whites, however, I recommend that any wine enthusiast have at least 1 set. I got a set as a gift too for my family!
