There are several benefits to using a plier-stapler - they are designed expressly for in-hand use and tend to be all-metal designs that are better-built than the remainder of their range that probably have plastic bodies. They are also more expensive for their size and sheet capacity while more reliable and also tend to have a longer working life. Many of the staff in a client business now use them almost exclusively after personal recommendation. Although none are from Rexel, a few different models are used to fulfil routine tasks of varying sheet-counts e.g. 2-15, 2-25 or 2-40. A heavy-duty stapler is used for the rarer large tasks. The "Rexel Office 56 Plier Stapler 50mm Throat Depth Silver (25 Sheet Capacity)" and also known as 'Office Squale 56'is the first of of its type to be seen or used from the brand and is vastly different than those previously used from another brand and which all share the same generic rear-loading design differing only in physical size and the gauge of staples used - none use 56 staples (a starter pack of 1000 is included) as does this - and all-metal construction. Rexel use a very similar design in one of their own models although that was unknown before now and when recommending the other brand. This differs by being a top-loader as are most other Rexel models and is of an essentially different design. Although a top-loader, it differs from any other Rexel stapler by needing several unusual steps; the base on which its anvil is mounted needs be gently closed and only then can the operating arm be pulled fully forward over and beyond the feed unit and past two click points to then expose the staple channel. After loading, pull the arm back to its original position and past the same two click points. It accepts a full-strip or two half-strips of type 56 staples and has a rotating anvil with both closed and open stapling options. It also borrows some design and operational elements from traditional desktop staplers while also adding its own unique approach to plier-staplers, namely soft plastic comfort grips at the two hold locations that also help minimise slippage and the loading method.Compared with several other Rexel models recently tested and reviewed, this offers a dramatic functional improvement and greatly improved build quality but it may not suit all users, of whom some will continue to prefer desktop models. The 56 gauges staples work well in this and with minimal effort needed although several review samples from Rexel consistently jammed on each use when filled with 24/6 staples that all supposedly accepted but were fully reliable with 56 staples loaded. Conversely, this works equally well and as effortlessly with type 16 (24/6) staples although it will not quite accept a full strip, perhaps about a dozen short.Despite its unusual loading method, Rexel do not include an instruction leaflet and there are no hints by illustration on the packaging. Despite extensive experience with many models and brands, the design initially confused in the absence of any release buttons etc. A device thought to be a drawer release (at the rear and under the top grip) is a loop intended for attachment of a security chain or similar anti-theft device.

REXEL OFFICE 56 “PLIER TYPE” STAPLEROver the years, I have found that plier-type staplers have performed better than their table top versions. It is obviously difficult to generalise but conventional desk / table top versions are eventually prone to jamming mainly, I believe because the incorrect pressure is applied in relation to the number of sheets and/or the thicknesses involved. With plier staplers the pressure is applied both top and bottom and with a scissor grip applied evenly. Whether this is scientifically provable, I don't know, I just know they work better. The new Rexel Office 56 is such a case, really well made with a soft grip on the top which sits comfortably into palm of the hand and a contoured soft grip underneath for the fingers.Only a small movement is required to close the gap between the upper and lower parts (aprox. 7mm) and further pressure completes the operation. The actual design is not conventional with a pivoting lower arm/grip. It takes normal 26/6 staples and also 24/6 however it is not immediately obvious where and how to load them. Whether desk top or plier type, they normally have a clear way of being loaded but not with this. There is no obvious sprung lever and the body does not pull apart. I checked the packaging to see if there were any notes ...nothing. Somewhat embarrassed that I could not find how to load the staples, I systematically tried all the parts – pulling and pushing – everything was solid. Almost by accident I pushed the lower grip forward and it moved. By pushing it further and closing the jaws slightly, the lower grip passed over the end of the stapler allowing both parts of the jaw to be released and drop down ...allowing staples to be loaded. This actually works quite well but a simple drawing would have saved the doubt. The stapler comes with a small box of 1000 26/6 staples.A highly effective stapler which will rightly earn a high place whether in the office, workplace or at home.

OK YOU NEED A STAPLER=====================You may need to staple a lot of paper, or just occasionally. There are TOO MANY to choose from: Manual desktop staplers, (most day to day) heavy-duty electric staplers can staple reams of paper,Effort? Heavy? Light? Small?THIS ONE=======It's fine for your daily stapling. I think it looks very pretty. It also looks good sitting on the desk.STAPLER========It's a stapler that looks prettier than most. It should survive a drop or two.SHEETS=======Standard full strip staplers will staple together between 20 to 50 sheets of 80gsm paper at once.Half strip and mini staplers have a stapling capacity of around 10 to 30 sheets of 80gsm paper. This is a 25 sheet stapler. It's good. It's quite solid and is suitable for both home or an office. Although it's not a heavy duty stapler.PROS=====Good brandFault freeStandard size staplelooks goodwell constructednot too heavyCONS=====none so farOVERALL========A pretty looking stapler which is fine at its job. This is quite an expensive stapler at £33 but it has several advantages if you use a stapler regularly. It sits well on the desk top but is designed to be held in the hand operationally, pliers style. This method means it is easier to position your staples exactly where you want them, and the 50mm throat helps here too. It will easily take 25 sheets, it is quiet in operation and comfortable to use- you do not need to bash at it! The machine will take up to 100 staples at a time (comes with a small pack of 26/6 size ) and feels really durable. It has a solid metal body with rubberised comfort grips, and looks very stylish in black, grey and silver. There is even a metal loop at the back if you need to tether this desirable object to your desk! One star is deducted in my review because of the lack of information on the box (there is no leaflet either) on how to load this stapler, and it is an unusual method in my experience. First, gently close up the stapler, then you can raise the operating arm. Next you lower the base of the stapler to reveal the staple tray, load and reverse the operation to close.

For some reason my stapler is in another language so I can't read what it says. The stapler also says Squale 56 on it.That aside, this is a very high quality unit. It has a very strong steel construction with the nicest soft rubberised grip I've ever come across. It's a very premium product. The only aspect of the construction I didn't like is the front end of the stapler where the plastic looks a bit warped, but it doesn't really affect the look and feel that much. The mechanism is something of an artform to use. You unhook the lower handle and it arches up and around the outside of the unit until you can see where to put the staples in.It's designed for regular handheld usage in an office environment. It fits No 56 26/6 and No 16 24/6 staples. It comes supplied with a small packof the 26/6 but they won't last long and only serve to illustrate what to buy. It comes in a polythene bag inside a small cardboard box.I tested it on 25 sheets and it punched through them with the tinniest squeeze. I would recommend this stapler if you have this much money to spend on one.

This Rexel Office 56 Plier Stapler is a workhorse stapler ideal for the office at home or at work. It’s a hand held stapler, rather than a desktop (though can be used that way if needed, but not best designed for the desktop due to its stapling angle). When I first got the stapler out of the box, I was a tad confused, as it wasn’t immediately clear how to put the supplied staples (1000) in! Eventually I figured out the lever loop mechanism which reveals the tray - it does seems a rather over complicated design, but I guess once you know how to do it, it’s no longer a problem, and I assume must be integral to the overall functional design. The double soft grip cushioning make using the stapler in the hand held position comfortable, though as the stapler is metal it is heavier than a standard desktop plier stapler, which may be a consideration if you have a long term condition such as arthritis in the wrists.Overall very robust office hand-held stapler, heavier then most but should last a lifetime.

For everyone who has ever used their stapler in the air (instead of keeping pressing the top while it sits on the desk), this is the stapler for you.The traditional staplers don't seem to like being used in the hand, and after a while the staples tend to jam more and more, unless you leave it on a desk while using it. This stapler doesn't have that problem. In fact it's specifically designed to use in the hand. It's got a nice comfortable grip, sturdy build, and is so easy to staple, when you first start using it, you have to keep looking to see if it actually stapled.A very useful tool, and I for one will never go back to using a traditional stapler!

This stapler is so easy to use and as you can use two different size staples, is so versatile too.The stapler is very easy to hold and stapling papers is a breeze. If you have a lot of stapling to do though, you would be better off with an electric stapler or a desk one.The stapler though is solid, and you can feel the quality as soon as you pick it up. It's not like those cheap, nasty plastic ones that don't staple more than two sheets. This is a beast, and can staple up to 25 sheets - this of course depends on the thickness of the paper. It is so easy to load with staples and comes with a decent size box of staples.

This is definitely the best stapler I have ever used; I've only ever used staplers designed to sit on one's desk but usually use them in the air ... where they don't work so well because not enough force can be applied. This is designed to be used one-handed (in the air) and it works superbly applying a great deal of force with ease (like a pair of pliers). The only thing that confused me at first (there were no instructions) was how to put staples into it; eventually I found that the lower handle rotates forward under the stapling jaw. I'd definitely recommend this, it's a revelation!

This is an Office 56 plier stapler. It is a durable, heavy-duty metal stapler, which features a soft grip plastic handle and has an ergonomic shape that sits comfortably in your hand. It has a 50mm throat depth and will staple up to 25 sheets of 80gsm paper at once, which makes it ideal for lighter office duties or classroom use. It can hold up to 100 Rexel No. 56 staples or 84 No.16 staples at each reload, so lasts a while when in use, before the need to reload. It has an easy to use top-loading mechanism and a 5 year warranty.

This is a solid sand really well made Pilier Stapler. Firstly the actual staples are easy to load. The staples can be fixed on a table as per traditional staplers and as the paper is hand held. I could staple 44 standard A4 sized paper without any problems. Designed for air use and as a normal stapler. Good hand grip. Overall this item is really well made and will so last for years. I have used this stapler for two days without any jams. Very pleased.

Imagine the look on the faces of your colleagues when you whip this beauty out for a quick stapling session. With a loading mechanism similar to that of a flick-knife, this stapler is just what you need to be the hippest cat in the office. No more are you restricted to stapling on a desk; with this you can hold your loose paper high in the air and the staples will stick as if they were made of pure magic.

3.11.2018

This is a well made, heavy duty, metallic stapler. It’s if the hand held variety and fits nice and comfortably in the hand, more so than conventional desk staplers. It takes your standard 26/6 and 24/6 standard staples. It’s not cheap at around £30 but it a quality stapler and lets you tackle certain jobs a bit more easily than a desk stapler. So far no jams or any other issues. Pretty impressed.

6.8.2015

Absolutely the best stapler I have ever used or owned, and there have been many. When mine "disappeared" in work I bought another one out of my own money. After using one of these all other staplers seem inferior. It will use any make of staple and staples easily and correctly every time, even when stapling at its size limit. I'm keeping my new one safe !

21.5.2013

Very pleased with the size and quality of build. Will survive years of frequent use (mine has done already). It isn't a power stapler - its only suitable for the sort of stapling you do in an office - but of its kind it is very robust and will cope with anything reasonable an office would expect of a good quality standard desk stapler.
