Twenty years ago, I remember my dad using a product which was very similar to these Rexel Crystalfiles, for storing invoices and other paperwork for his business. However, with the massive increase in the use of computers, I would have thought that the demand for products such as this must have massively reduced - certainly, my dad no longer uses filing cabinets and the majority of his records are now stored electronically. Having said that, whether there is or isn't demand for this product is somewhat irrelevant, given that this is a review of the Crystalfile itself and not of the market which it is aimed at.This particular product is a box of 50 Crystalfiles, with the dimensions being 36.0cm (width)by 23.5cm (height). Based on my recollection of these files, this is the standard dimension of such files, with paper being able to be stored in landscape format, rather than portrait. However, several other reviewers of similar sized files have commented that it doesn't fit in their filing cabinets so perhaps more modern filing cabinets are narrower and so you should check that the width of the files is not less (or more) than the width of your filing cabinet. The capacity of this particular product is also pretty decent and it is claimed that each file can store up to 500 pages. I suspect that this claim might be slightly optimistic, particularly if using paper which is 80g/sm or higher however, they will easily store 425 - 450 pages. It might sound like this volume of paper would be too heavy to be adequately supported by a file however, they are pretty robust, despite being made of cardboard. They also have a reinforced cardboard base, so this should also help to support the weight.Included with each product is a set of plastic tabs and paper inserts for clearly identifying the contents of each file. The plastic tabs attach to the horizontal (top edge) side of the file, rather than the vertical side, making it slightly easier to scan your eye over each tab when skimming for the appropriate file. The final aspect which I would comment on is probably the one which has the most relevance for the majority of people and that is the price. The RRP of this product is stated as being £166.60, which works out at over £3 per file. I appreciate that Amazon are currently selling the files at a significant discount but even so, I would still consider this to be an expensive (premium) product. Only you can decide if it is worth the cost!

These are great filing solutions, the slings each are of a good quality card, the metal struts do not bow or bend easily under the expected stress of the weight of papers or files you would store within. The plastic label tabs are each good, easy to place and remove from the metal struts and the paper labels (included on a sheet and easily separated along the perforations) fit each tab fine (these themselves are easily placed and removed too from the tabs too). The flat, or slightly longer base, of each sling is so, so, so much better than the regular "V" shape variety which can contain so few sheets and barely hold a single file without busting or tearing away from the metal struts or causing them to bend and bow under the pressure. Now, I know anyone reading this will say this just reinforces the need to read the capacity in terms of sheets that each sling is designed to hold, sure, that's true but the "V" ones will accommodate only a few while the flat bottom variety will accommodate a few or many sheets of paper or file. The sling itself is paper, sometimes I prefer the plastic ones for strength of the suspension sling but on the other hand the sling being paper it is possible to write on it with a pen or permanent marker if need be. Recommended.

You pay for what you get. Rexel files are usually always high quality and if you file important documents then you should have a secure and reliable system to accommodate them.I first saw Rexel files in use at my workplace and realised how handy they would be at home, I have a standard filing cabinet with rails for suspending and 70625 foolscap do a great job of keeping my files organised here.Make sure you read the dimensions as they only fit rails, however I am sure they will fit most. The metal is reinforced and the files are very very sturdy overall, I find that if you do not have many documents in one file that it may not rack properly, adding weight makes them more secure. The plastic tabs however are not of the highest quality and tend to break so I had to use alternates for thisIn regards to the capacity of pages each file can fit, I use 100gram paper and I can fit around 300 comfortably, going too much over this makes it seem a little too heavy.Overall, the cost is high, but so is the quality. If you have high volumes of documents needing filing then this is a suitable solution

This review is for the Rexel 78141 Crystalfile Classic Foolscap Suspension File, 150 Sheet Capacity, 15 mm V-Base Manilla, Pack of 50, Red, which I received free to write a review.Made from recycled paper with steel bars to grip the top runners of a filing cabinet, these suspension files are brilliant, well made, sturdy and will last years. The have little plastic "feet" under the notches that fit over the cabinet's runners which makes them quieter and easier to slide about inside the cabinet, and also mean they won't scratch. They come with a sheet of 51 perforated labels that fit inside the quality plastic name holders (there are 50 of these) that sit on top of the suspension files. These lock into place and can be positioned anywhere along the length of the suspension file to make the contents easier to identify. The plastic is a little brittle so care needs to be taken when clipping them on, but they lock in well and don’t come out by accident.Make sure you order the correct size; these are for foolscap and not A4 which is common too.

I think most people tend to overload standard V-shaped suspension files with too many documents, so these wide bottomed files are a great idea. Of course, there will also be more weight for them to hold so they need to be sturdy. There is a reinforced strip along the bottom of the file, which is a good idea – however that's not the only area that wear and tear is going to come from, and these files could have been made slightly thicker, or have had the same reinforcement near the top to stand up to the rigours of busy cabinet use. I think that for anything other than a very heavily used failing cabinet they’re going to be fine. Some more plus points are that the metals runners are sturdy and do not bow under the weight, the colour of the card is visually pleasing, they are made from 100% recycled paper and the file is recyclable.

We use these for our current files in the office before they are moved to boxes for long term storage, and it is a good system that is easy to browse through and it's easy pull a file. Unfortunately it's also very easy to overfill the files so they rip at the top and the suspension files become useless. That problem has not been fully resolved with these files, but if you stick to the max of approx 150 pages in each folder and you're careful not to force the files down too hard, the quality of these suspension files is good and they should last for a while. The price is very high, but hopefully it's not something you have to buy too often and it's definitely worth going with these high qualityfiles than the cheaper ones that rip too easily. This size is perfect for filing A4 and smaller size papers.

Working in a school, we are perpetually drowning in paper, so were thrilled to be offered the opportunity to test out these suspension files. The 'Rexel Crystalfile Classic Suspension Files Manilla 15mm Foolscap - Pack of 50, Green' hold a 1.5cm thickness of paper and have a V-shaped base. They are made from strong, thick cardboard, in a bright green colour, with patterning inside the files to help prevent accidental misfiling, and have sturdy metal runners. A full set of crystal tabs and card inserts is included in the box. They fit our standard sized (foolscap) filing cabinets perfectly, and while relatively costly we believe that they will prove durable enough to be worth the premium.Great quality, strong files, in a nice colour. I have a filing cabinet with standard suspension files. Thing is, my style of filing means most of these files are overloaded and continually breaking. Opportunity arose to review these suspension files from Rexel which are 50mm across the base. Not the cheapest at over £1.30 per file but the quality is superior to the cheap ones I currently have. They fit between the rails perfectly and now I can add my large wads of files into these with no worries.Green cardboard files with metal rails, the rail-ends have plastic edges to not cause a nasty screaming noise when moving the files about. You also get plastic name tags with tearaway cardboard bits to write on.I haven't had any durability problemswith these yet but will update if I do.

These are your standard Foolscap width files in an usual green file colour. They’ll fit most filing cabinets but just be careful you don’t have one of the smaller narrower filing cabinets as you’ll need A4 sized instead. You get the plastic tabs and perforated card labels - everything you need (assuming you have the filing cabinet, drawer or trolly required). These files are very expensive and I’m in two minds about whether they are worth the money. After a while I do find many of the card ones start to tear or go misshaped. Whereas these are so much sturdy. I guess it depends on what you’re storing and for how long.It you have heavier items and larger volumes of paper then this is maybe worth the money to invest in.
