Almost, the first thing it says in the manual for this helicopter is "This is not a toy". Well, I beg to differ, but certainly it is ONLY a toy for adults or older teens. The helicopter is neat and stylish - it is about 19cm long and 10cm high. The main structural parts of the body and tail are metal, which makes it feel like a more "professional" piece of kit. It comes all ready assembled and charged, so all you need to do it put 6xAA batteries (not provided) into the remote. This requires a standard small Philips (size 1) screwdriver to unscrew the cover.Turn on the helicopter and the remote. An LED on the remote blinks red - give a quick giggle of the power control to trigger the "pairing" and it changes to a solid light. Now you are ready to go. It is quite tricky if you have not used one before (as in my case) but the manual rightly emphasises small gradual movements of the controls. The first task is to get it to hover, which is not too difficult. You then check if the copter is rotating left or right by itself. If so, you correct this with the silver knob above the on/off switch on the remote. Now you can hold still and the copter just hovers. After a few goes, I was able to begin moving the copter around the room.I confess that I did lose control a few times initially, and thumped the copter down a little heavily on the floor or into a wall. However, the good news is that it seemed unaffected by this, so whilst not recommended, it seems it will take a little punishment in this regard. In any case, a complete set of replacement rotors (2 top, 2 bottom and one small rear propeller) are provided - these are attached via a small Philips screw to hold in place. The manual recommends a space 10 x 6 metres and 3 metre high. Unless you are a farmer with a barn, or have access to a sports hall, I doubt many will meet this requirement. However, I found it was possible to fly the copter in a large living room, provided you move all the furniture back and take extra care to be cautious at first. Two points of note, that may not be clear from the Amazon page:1. The illustration of a white front LED "searchlight" is completely misleading. Mine has no such light on the front. It does have blinking red and blue LEDs on the side, which give a "police copter" effect. These can be switched on/off from the remote, using black buttons on the front edge.2. There are a number of fake or disabled (not sure which) silver buttons on the remote. The 4 small buttons you can see below the main controls do nothing. The horizontal silver bar between the controls (marked A B C) does not move and has no effect. The only controls that do anything are: on/off switch, rotation correction knob, power control (L), movement control (R) and LED on/off buttonsWhen I was a kid, I always wanted to try remote control but never could owing to cost and expertise required. Modern electronics has now brought this within easy financial reach - hooray for progress!

The Revell Remote Control Helicopter is easy to use and great fun to play with around the house. A USB connection is required to charge the helicopter itself but both lithium and USB lead are supplied. The helicopter can be charged via the USB using a pc with USB hub or a three pin plug with USB hub, available on Amazon and additionally useful for charging MP3 players etc. On the downside, the remote requires SIX AA batteries and so I had to dash out and buy a pack, which was okay as the helicopter was charging while I was shopping. With batteries charged and installed, I strongly recommend following the instructions in the booklet so as to avoid any accidents. It takes a little getting use to but then,as the box rightly points out, this is not a toy and unsuitable for children under the age of 15. With practice, you'll have the helicopter flying around the room and delighting family and friends alike. BUT, take care not to fly the helicopter at anyone - act responsible! My two cats were very intrigued by the helicopter and once they were used to seeing it fly, they started jumping up to catch it but then I realised the spinning rotors could catch their face, or indeed their eyes, and so now I only play with the helicopter in a closed room and shut them out. The flight only lasts about 10 minutes after a 45 minute charge but maybe that is enough. One important point to make is that Revell explain that the helicopter is for indoor use only and I believe this to be very important. As I live near to cliffs I suggested to a friend we charged up the helicopter and take it to the cliffs to play with, knowing there would be no-one around to injure but, being technically minded unlike myself, my friend said "No!" The reason for this is that the air is filled with varying radio and transmission signals and that they would interfere with the helicopter's signal receiver. As a result of this, I would be unable to control the helicopter and apart from crashing and breaking, it could drop down the side of the cliff and injure someone on the promenade below. So, again, act responsible and you'll have lots of fun with this helicopter. In case of any damage, the helicopter comes with a replacement set of four rota blades, metal screw and rear rota blade. Now, I wonder what fun I could have pitting the helicopter against one of my remote control Daleks!!!

Being a little tech savvy I can usually figure out how to put together and operate things with a quick glance at the manual. Not so with this little gem.Putting in the 6 (yes six!!) AA batteries into the remote and turning it on is straight forward as is turning on the helicopter itself but getting the rotors spinning took 3 or 4 reads of the description as the diagrams, which are on 2 or 3 pages ahead of the description causing much page turning, are really not that clear. However once I got the idea that you have to start with the throttle off move to full and back to off before the rotors will start it was all go.The remote has a trim function that you have to use to get the helicopterbalanced otherwise it will automatically rotate left or right making any controlled flight impossible.Getting the helicopter air born in any controlled flight takes practice and patience and as noted elsewhere can result in some stinging encounters when you lose control and the fast moving plastic rotors come in contact with flesh. Our dog was soon petrified of my early flight attempts and decided it was safer up on the sofa as I achieved 10s flight of no more than 2 feet off the ground. After about 10mins I lost height and realised the battery in the helicopter was drained so onto charging. I tried a 0.5a USB wall charger but couldn't tell from the description or the light on the USB connector whether the helicopter was charging or not.So I tried using the charging method from the remote control which is a weird and complex set of control movements akin to doing a cheat on the playstation remote, but it did work and the helicopter sat charging nicely, or at least the remote control said so from the flashing red light that eventually flickered green but never went to the solid state the manual says it does. And its for the reasons of not being able to easily match the manual to the item that I've knocked a star off as otherwise this is an incredibly fun indoor "big boys toy"

It was not easy to assemble...I do not think a fifteen year old would be able to assemble it straight from the box. The written instructions were quite vague, and the pictures didn't reveal very much; especially how to remove the helicopter from the box. A tiny Philips Screwdriver is needed in order to open the hatch for the six AA batteries, there was nothing provided to achieve that, fortunately, I have one which I found in a Christmas Cracker several years ago, although not a Philips - it's a flat blade, but it did the job. I feel that the average fifteen year old would not own one, so, perhaps should be included in the bag with the spare rotors and the charging cable.I also felt that the rotors are somewhat flimsy, so anyone heavy handed would be hard put to holding it without damaging it - luckily there are spares. The flying instructions seem to me to be somewhat beyond the average fifteen year old, unless they have used a radio controller before. I am mentioning fifteen year olds because the box stipulates fifteen years and upwards. It came ready charged, so there was no messing around with the tiny charging lead straight away. It flies well, but the controls take a while to master, and the noise the rotors make upset my two puppies, so my advice would not to fly it where there are animals around. The flight time is only about six minutes, and then it needs recharging, so, unless there is a portable recharging unit or a fully charged laptop around, I wouldn't recommend taking it far to fly it. The cable comes with a USB plug to recharge on a computer or into a bespoke charger (which is not provided). All in all - I like it, and am looking forward to flying it again soon - away from my dogs!

I had ordered this for my grandson but it turns out that it can be just as much fun for the adults. Learning to control the helicopter is quite a challenge (more so for the adults) but it is quite amazing how accurately it can be flown with a little practise. Revell say that the remote control helicopter is particularly suited to indoor flying and that spatial awareness can be developed by playing with the Sky Fun RC Helicopter - I would just like to warn you that if you do intend flying this indoors then you'd best already have a well developed sense of spatial awareness!!As a boy I remember Revell as being second only to Airfix in the quality and realism of their models and going by this RChelicopter they have retained their ability to make excellent products which can fire the imagination of young people. In the box you get:1 x Sky Fun RC Helicopter - with 3.7V LiPo rechargeable battery included1 x Remote Control1 x User Manual1 x USB Charging Cable1 x Set of spare rotor bladesYou will need to buy 6 x AA batteries for the remote control and I would advise getting at least 1 set of spares if you don't have rechargeables as the remote control is quite heavy on batteries. A full charge on the LiPo battery inside of the Helicopter will fly the machine for round about 10-12 minutes and recharging takes between an hour and 90 minutes. I was impressed with the fact that Revell supplies a spare set of rotor blades for this Helicopter because many of the much more expensive models of RC Helicopters don't and yet these are probably the most vulnerable part of the whole model.I thought that this was a great product that provides hours of fun for kids of all ages - highly recommended.

This was a wonderful rival to the market leader Syma s107. While those can be bought fairly cheaply, this one comes with spare blades and much better instructions. The LED lights are flashy and classy but eats into flying time. The three channel and battery charging via USB is similar to the Syma, as is charging time. The flying time quoted is actually truthful with any attempt to stretch seeing the chopper responding sluggishly. To the uninitiated, this is a good start. Your spares are present but I the aftermarket sourcing is harder. I would recommend this alongside the Syma. A major ding does affect the assembly so all the spares in the world won't help things like balance or airframe repairs(I shudder at my first syma memories)I would recommend an empty living room with at least a 4x4 foot carpet clear as a base for the first flight. Avoid the temptation to see how far up /how fast the chopper can go. Any time you leave the carpet- its time to land, pronto. Learn your trim and rotation, master flying from corner to corner. Do that until you get the hang of it and you are ready for altitude checks ie landing on a table. Never be cocky.I think its a great bit of kit that puts a lot of awareness and control compared to an RC car. The teenager would benefit from the acquiring technique of small constant adjustments and anticipation as well as responsibility. However, remember: it is very likely the very first kit will be a write-off sooner or later so you have to balance between price and functions against a certain level of "disposability"

I must admit to being a little bit sceptical at first about whether this would be any good but was pleasantly surprised. Once I had worked out how to get the helicopter out of the box (strangely difficult!) it was very easy to set up. I was disappointed to find it didn't include batteries for the remote control (you need 6 AA batteries) but obviously it isn't the end of the world - just worth keeping in mind. The helicopter charges via the USB on a PC so very easy (although I would prefer an independent charger since I don't use the PC all that often, instead using a tablet 90% of the time but again,it's not too much of an issue)40 minutes of charge gave about 15 minutes of play time with the helicopter (the instruction say you get 6-8 minutes of flying time out of that charge which I'd say is about right if you take into account the amount of crash landings I had!) It's fun to fly, but took a little while to get use to it (hence the crashes) but I'm please with how robust it was as it easily coped with a few bumps. I was convince it would be broken a few times but it was completely fine.It recommends 15 years plus and I would confirm that it is more of a 'grown up' toy - but it is fun and worth considering if you are looking for a remote control helicopter.

I always wanted one of these as a kid, this was my first ever and I was nervous about my maiden flight so I spent some time just looking at it!!!This is a well-made and sturdy little helicopter with easy to use controls but you MUST take care and be very gentle with the controls as they are sensitive and this is a piece of equipment that can cause damage and/or injury. If using it outside you need to make sure that it is a still and calm day. Wind and this helicopter are mutually exclusive (they do NOT mix well). It is brightly coloured and stylish. It will take me some time to master the controls and the makers are very clear in their instructions. If you are able to get the help of an experienced 'pilot'I do believe this would help greatly on your first (few?) flights!Charge the batteries and/or remove, replace and correctly store as the handbook tells you - they are good instructions and should be followed.A lovely machine and I am sure we will have many happy flying hours together - given a bit more practice that is!

This is a fun, remote controlled helicopter that requires a small amount of assembly before it can be used. Young teenagers may struggle, but with a bit of supervision, they should be fine. The helicopter is charged via a USB cable, which is fine, but a dedicated mains charger might have been preferable. One charge gets about 10 minutes of flying, depending how long you can keep it out of trees/hedges/other head-height obstacles. For something so small, that feels about right. Controlling the helicopter is a little more tricky than you might expect, if you're a beginner to these things. However, if you want to go on to bigger helicopters, this would be a good place to start.

Oh my....this IS fun!!!This little helicopter has given us hours of fun! Its it small, fits into your hand and is radio controlled. We have only used this indoors because we dont want to break or lose it. It's is easily controlled with the hand controller, and it can hover, move up, down, sideways ...whatever you want.DO be carefull not to fly it near people or animals. It can do a LOT of damage when it hits you in the face, and you'll be sporting cuts and a nice shiner for a week or two. This is lots of fun. Cheap - yet of a high quality. Makes a fabulous gift. This is an adult toy and NOT recommended for children.

This is a great little fun helicopter. When I ordered it I suspected it would be a bit of a gimmick, and I'd quickly lose interest in flying it. However, it has continued to provide a lot of fun and has surprising longevity. The design makes it reasonably easy to fly for anyone, but challenging enough that it will take time to master. We have set each other challenges such as landing on smaller and smaller surfaces, or flying through or under chairs etc.I suspect it is still something that I will use a few times then put in a cupboard somewhere, but one month on I'm still enjoying it.

Potential buyers should be aware that learning to fly this type of RC helicopter is very tricky, so don't give up after 2 minutes and give a bad review. I'd say it takes about an hour to get competent enough to keep it flying for 10 minutes without crashing. Once you get it, it's great fun. These things are remarkably robust despite looking like they will crumble! I've bought about 3 over the last few years and this is the best one as it seems to be the strongest and it comes with spare rotor blades.

I am no expert with these helicopters, it has been a while since I have used one and as I am writing this review on the day that I received the helicopter, I could be speaking too soon. Otherwise, this helicopter is simply so much fun! Very simple to use, easy instructions, packaging was a bit of a faff to get into but that is no big deal. It flies about very well, its very agile so you could have great fun in a small room with this as a result.Very happy with this product.

15.7.2014

This is a great deal of fun! It is easy to recharge, is very tough in spite of appearing flimsy, and is quite easy to control with practice. It hovers, goes forwards, backwards, can do a 360 degree turn, can bank left and right, and can point down going forwards. It lands very smoothly, again with practice, and doesn't take too long to learn the controls. It also comes with spare propellors, which is brilliant. Highly recommended.

16.7.2014

Easy to set-up and recharge helicopter battery. Requires a little bit of practice to master the art of flying but once mastered is great fun. Would recommend an open space for flying so as not to damage the copter. Not suitable for children as this is definitely not safe in a child's hands. 9/10.
