I was quite impressed with this model when I finally got round to spraying, painting and assembling this. Revell have made quite the effort with this model and there is a lot of small detail you don't usually find on this scale model. Most surprising was that they made a much greater effort with this one than with two 1/48th scale models from the same stable. Both of those were nice, but lacking in so many areas. This one just blows them out of the water.Internal details are nice, the airframe and primary details are clean and clear. The turrets rotate, guns elevate and the whole thing goes together nicely. Very little excess plastic or flashing to gut away, good quality plastic, clear instructions and a nice set of decals make this a pleasure to build and display. If they had only made half the effort on the two larger models that they made on this one...This is still quite a large model, even though it is at the smaller end of the model scale, the wing span is impressive even in a relatively small model and you do get quite an appreciation for the size of this bomber, even if you haven't seen one up close and real.I think this, along with a particularly good Lancaster I got a while back are two of my favourite models in my collection. They look splendid once painted and decked out with the available decals and a little but of attention to wear and weathering really makes it pop.A lot of very small parts and fiddly areas will make this a challenge for people new to modelling, but sometimes a challenge can be good, especially when the end result is so impressive. Not suitable for young people for the same reason - small pieces. Similarly, adult supervision may be advisable as there is a lot of cutting to do to make this model. Time to invest in a good pair of side-cutters if you haven't already.

This is a new tool Revell kit, not to be confused with earlier efforts. It has excellent detail for the scale, with a lovely interior, well detailed engines and undercarriage. THere are various options including bomb bay open/closed, and nose glass. Also, and perhaps more importantly, it looks right. Fit of the parts is very good, with just a little filler needed on major joints. There are two decal options but many more are available from after-market suppliers if you wish. Colour schemes are either natural metal/olive drab or olive drab/neutral gray.Instructions are typical Revell but easy to follow. In terms of the competition, Hasegawa's B-17 is ageing but still looks good, although it lacks internal details and has raised panel lines. It's also more expensive. Academy's kit has good detail but the wing dihedral is far too pronounced and the Airfix model is very old now, with crew who look like spacemen. This joins Revell's new Lancaster and Halifax kits as the models to have and like those kits, it's great value. I believe Revell will also release a B-17F version soon, the only problem with that is how to make room for all these on your shelf.Highly recommended.

If you want a great model that will give you lots to do and loads of detail this is a great buy. I loved making it took about a week and the kit is very well made with lots of lovely detail to keep you busy. You will need to buy the paint if you do not have a stock of paint already it will be about 15 small Revell pots of paint plus you will need some decal fix and some filler in case you have any gaps to fill. The finished model looks really great but you really need to take it a step at a time and double check on the parts before gluing together. Revell kits are pretty good having made several now they have all been fun to make and nicely made. The instructions are clear and fairly easy to follow but I do tend to write out all the paint numbers on a separate a4 sheet of paper for refrence when making the model. So very happy with this model it was great fun to make and I know have wonderful model. If your going to make it make sure you have an airbrush for the paint job and some masking tape for the finer details.10 out of 10 for a very good model.

Having seen this kit reviewed in modelling magazines I was determined to get myself one at some point. I am very pleased with the kit and it certainly lived up to expectation. Given that the B-17 wore some very striking and colourful markings my only problem is choosing the final markings. My only gripe, and this is in no way reflects on the quality of the product, is that the plastic is in that slightly silver tone some modellers don't like.Final comment - would I recommend it? Oh yes!!! And don't restrict yourself to one. I won't!!

Bought it as a present for a 46 year old (child at heart) who then spent three weeks building it. He's quite meticulous about his model making and he said "The best model I've ever made". Considering his collection, that's quite an endorsement. Apparently, the inside, that eventually you will barely see if at all, is as well made and crafted as the outside, which means not only is it a cool model, but if you love the process as much as the outcome, it's a joy. He loved it and he loves model making so basically, it's awesome.

I bought this for my adult son, who is very ill and cannot move a lot. He's getting fed up with DVD, games and reading and I was looking for something constructive he could do that would also interest his children (as in, look what Daddy can do). This one is now hanging in his son's bedroom, he's started another one, the children are very impressed with what Daddy can do! So glad this was a complete success.

This model has been a challenge to work with and i am not finished yet. The details are very good but the smallest pieces are so small that i had to use magnifying glass (see picture) to be able to glue them correctly, so nothing for newbies.Revell should put a warning on the front that this model is level 5!So far I am very glad i purchased this item, it will give me months of good work.

I bought this to re-live a childhood memory. Sadly it didn't quite do it. I hasten to add though a more competent modeller could sort things out. I had trouble with the engines and landing gear and had to adapt it, the instruction were pretty vague. However, it's a great kit, great detail but has to be done by someone with a little more patience and know how. Arrived promptly.

This may seem challenging, but actually the flying fortress will look amazing. It is a great use of time and a way to even build it with your family. My only complaint would be that there aren't any paints or glues in the model which cost an extra £10. But if you are looking for a new challenge, the Flying Fortress is a great option!

a lot of plane for the price a pity the interior work isn't seen when joined together I didn't cheat it all went in a nice model to make all the pieces went together well it looks really good I did the paint work the same as the box art got nothing negative to say about this aircraft model I would recommend this kit well done revell

Owen has made a video of the model being assembled on youtube - quick kitshttps://youtu.be/2Sfampu10D8There is so much excellent detail inside it would be a shame to hide it all away!Great model -but quite a challenge and as the other reviews say you'll need time patience and plenty of paint

I bought this for a present and have seen the finished result - it looks very good. Apparently it was a good kit to put together. There is a lot of intricate interior work which unfortunately isn't seen when finished but at least the user knows it's there and how much time was spent.

This kit is extremely good value and makes a first class model of the B17 . fit of parts is first rate only filler needed to cover damage for parts removal etc . very detailed ; and intricate so not suitable for beginners but probably the best 1 in 72 kit of B17 available

Great interior detail, shame you don’t see it when outer shell is on.Outer shell not a great fit with interior shell (inner too big or outer too small) Very Careful putting parts tight together before gluing.
