Now let me start with i have never played any previous Red Factions so this is a new franchise for me.Now I've seen some reviews which said things about the story being bad and lack of enemys and when i first started playing i agreed with them but! after the 1st few missions you get into some walker(L.E.O i think) and things take a turn and its chaotic and fun and i would say some of THE best vehicles/vehicle missions I've ever played before in my entire life of gaming. The destruction is amazing from tearing a small section of a wall out or leveling an entire building it never falls the same way twice, what adds to the destruction is the weapons you can use, from simple pistols/rifle/shotgun to a magnet gun which is probably the greatest gun in the game because there is nothing more satisfying than flying an entire building into or on-top of a single alien! :P The weapons vary from the magnet weapon which you can fling aliens/humans against objects or fling the objects at them or each other! Nanite gun which just disintegrates walls and aliens alike or a beam type weapon which just cuts through an entire building like slicing bread and a lot more unique and different weapons as well which really add to the game. The Story starts off slow and the characters don't really have much effect on you but as you progress the characters get a little more Personality and there is some funny moments when you meet up with the army. The guy you play and the army sergeant have some great banter between each other which i love to see. The story lasts a good 8+ hours on normal, depends a lot on how you play as i loved destroying things and killing aliens in style :P but destroying buildings also gets you salvage which you can buy upgrades with and there are a fair amount of upgrades with different tiers you can level trough.Graphics and game-play are smooth and from what I've seen flawless, the game runs amazingly well and there are no noticeable frame-rate drops when things are even hugely chaotic with multiple aliens shooting at you and buildings collapsing, weapons sound really good and are all great fun to use. Vehicles handle really well but i did find the plane/ship controls a little iffy at first and not the smoothest experience trying to fly it.Nano ability's to repair buildings and also do all this without a hitch and being able to tear down and rebuild over and over is great fun and good for ammunition against the enemy.Onto Multiplayer.Infestation - Its chaotic and an insane amount 4 player co-op fun, with the destruction and weapons and nano ability's make it feels more unique and not a direct copy of the Gears Horde mode. When you get to high level/waves it gets more and more chaotic and what is nice is its not all about staying alive, some of the maps are about keeping a structure standing while also fighting off waves of aliens which mixes things up a little and is great fun.Ruin - If you buy this game new you can play it fine as you get a code on the manual, if you buy used you will have to pay a little extra for the ruin mode. Its all about destruction and its great fun, you can play challenge mode which you just aim for a high score and compete with others via leader board or you can just go free-mode and destroy buildings and cause havoc however you like. Its simple but very fun to do and addicting :POverall this game is amazing and i can see myself playing it for a good few months down the line, My gripes would be that there is no PvP as i think it would have worked really well and have been a great asset to the game, The small amount of custom characters/unique ID card to choose from but maybe with DLC they will bring out more but other than that and with my many previous personal disappointments with badly managed/unfinished games like Crysis 2/|Homefront/brink red faction Armageddon is made well and polished also, 1st game I've bought in awhile i have not had to download an update straight away to fix "bugs" because they released a buggy game. I am now a fan of Red Faction and will be in-line to buy the next installment(if there is one)Closing statementThis to me is the best game to be released this year by far and i would give it an 9/10.Brilliant game just a shame about the no PvP.

I'm so glad that I managed to grab this game for the bargain price of 97p, because without such a price I do fear I would have been put off getting it due to the reviews which stretched from the 'alright' to the 'awful'.After an hour of playing it, I began to suspect that most of the reviewers were either too harsh or just plain wrong because the gameplay mechanics I had experienced thus far seemed perfectly up to scratch with other shooters out there. And after completing it, I must say that I actually prefered this over Guerilla. I never though that would happen. I thought, if the reviews were correct, I would play it for a minute and then throw the disc out of my window. That definitely hasn't happened, and I'll be keeping this game for quite some time to come.Instead of giving you a spoilerific walkthrough, I'll instead give you my top three 'strengths' and 'weaknesses', which I think will serve to create a relevant and succinct review.Strengths:1) Linearity - not often you hear that word being used as a good thing, is it? For me Guerilla was a lot of fun, but it suffered because it was incredibly shattergun like, there was no real focus and the fact you had to travel for such a lengthy period of time in a vehicle that was probably going minus five miles per hour (exaggeration, but it was rather slow) did take away the sense of urgency. Armageddon, by being linear, is better because every mission has you knee-deep in all sorts of danger, which is a fantastic thing indeed.2) Story - Armageddon, by being linear, allows itself to focus 100% on the story and I must say that it was a rather good one in that you could relate to the characters and laugh at the main character's quips.3) Shooting - the game's greatest strength, it feels really immediate and powerful and you'll enjoy going through wave after wave of enemies as you do so. And then you have some vehicles which add to the calamity.Weaknesses:1) Length - it is a blast, ableit a short one. I beat it in five hours which is around half the time it took me to beat Ghost of Sparta. Maybe if the single player had been lengthened a bit, the game would be better overall? There is dlc to download that fills in a gap around the start of the game, but that is payable and not in this box!2) Trophies - some are quite vague in terms of how you achieve them unless, of course, you refer to youtube.3) Not as good a shooter as an Uncharted - but then again, what is?Overall, a surprisingly good game which will keep you entertained from start to finish. There is 'Ruin' mode that I still haven't played and that sounds like a lot of fun, and then there is a Zombies-style mode for multiplayer, which I have also got to try out.Recommended game - just ignore the negative reviews! I've a feeling that they slate it because it isn't open world, but I'd wager that if Guerilla was linear too that Armageddon would have done better in the reviews department.

Red Faction Armageddon is the first of the Red Faction series that I've played and to be honest the game started on a downer for me, I read the back of the box to see the green words I love "Co-op 2-4 player", great, my girlfriend and I can play this together! This, however, is no the case, the co-op isn't local co-op at all, it's over System link or Xbox Live, so why it states Co-op in green, I have no idea...But on to the review...As it boasts, it's full of mayhem and destruction of any (specifically) man made structure (However this isn't 100% true, but you have to draw the line somewhere...I bought this game not expecting much (I only bought this game as Brink was £30 trade-in against it)but I have been pleasantly surprised. The game starts off, easing you in, letting you get to grips with aiming, shooting and switching weapons before letting you loose on a couple of enemies. As the game goes on it lets you get your hands on a few more "fun" weapons. To start the game, I wanted to use the Maul as much as possible, but this isn't particularly wise for 2 reasons, 1) On Insane difficulty, I don't think you're meant to and 2) After the first few "levels" the enemies like to jump around out of your reach, it's hard to hit an enemy with a Maul when they're on top of a pillar.I spent most of my time (and killed most enemies) with the amazing Magnet gun, tag an object (like a Pillar) then tag the enemy and watch it fly into their face and squish them into mush, it's great fun!The game handles really well, there are upgrades you can buy using Salvage that you find (Or once you have the upgrade, you can get this by killing the enemies), they upgrade a multitude of things, from health, damage done by your weapons and you can even get a "shell" that can reflect damage back at enemies. To be honest, I'm not the best person at 3rd or even first person shooters, but playing this on Insane difficulty isn't really that challenging, sure I've died once or twice by being outnumbered and overwhelmed by the enemy, but their attacks are usually easy to dodge, and they are pretty simple to kill. There are also two other game types to play, a (what seems to be standard these days) last stand type game, where you fight wave after wave of enemies, and also a game type called "Ruin", which gives you weapons and freedom to destroy as much as you can in the time limit given. There is a demo given with the game, but it's 400 MS points to unlock the full version (The download is 128kb, so the content is already on the disc, which I feel is a ripoff, but each to their own)Overall, the game is good, better than most other releases at the moment (perhaps with the exception of LA Noire, but that's a whole different kettle of fish!)Definitely worth a buy, should entertain you for a while (especially if your friends buy it, the last stand game is always fun to play)

Red Faction Armageddon is a fast paced 3rd person shooter set on the desolate Red Planet of Mars. The game's 8 - 10 hour single player campaign sees you take control of Darius Mason, a macho one-man-army descendent of a long lineage of military prowess. Mars is overrun by a new and previously unknown alien threat from within the planet's subterranean core, and yes, it's your job to blast your way through it all.RFA sports an impressive arsenal of weaponry and upgrades to help you along your way. Enemy attack patterns are quite varied, though many of the environments are dull and repetitive; I mean, hey, what do you expect the inside of Mars to look like?!Where the game really shines is in its destruction mechanics.Basically, every man-made object (vehicles, buildings, walls, generators, doors, ceilings and the rest) are totally destructable. This brings a nice element of variety to the way you tackle the hordes of aliens. Want to snipe those three menacing looking bad dudes on top of that building, go ahead! Want to blow the whole building into a firy ball of death and carnage, be my guest! Mason is also gifted with the technology to rebuild things he destroys which also makes the game very fun. It's very satisfying to blow up a massive bridge letting all the nasty alien scum standing on it fall to their doom only to rebuild it moments later to get you across to your next objective. So it's fun, satisfying and fairly innovative. So why only 4 stars? Well, RFA's shortcomings are, while minimal in my opinion, still rather annoying. As said before, the environments are very repetitive, often dark and dingy affairs. This creates a good sense of being on Mars and all, but it really makes the game feel like a bit of a grind towards the latter parts of the campaign mode as you begin to yearn for a little more variety and eye candy. The campaign story is also totally forgettable with shallow characters, average voice acting and at times a rather confusing plot.RFA also boasts some quite nice online play functions which will extend the game's replay value beyond the single player campaign. Infestation mode pits you and up to 3 other online players against wave after wave of aliens in the "co-op survival" style. Ruin mode allows you to simply take advantage of the game's impressive destruction physics to make as much carnage as possible in an allotted time.Overall, a good game and definitely worth a purchase at its current price. It's not going to become your favourite game of this generation but it will keep you entertained and introduce you to some interesting gameplay mechanics along the way.

Many of my reviews champion the underdog. You know, when I feel that something has been sadly overlooked or under appreciated. Poor little Red Faction: Armageddon is the next in line. It's a shame it's free roaming predecessor Guerrilla in many ways killed this one before it even left the blocks. It wasn't sandbox. Well, neither was any Red Faction game before Guerrilla. Besides, why can't you enjoy both? I personally loved the change of pace.To me Armageddon brought Red Faction back to it's roots. That being getting underground and causing absolute chaos. Armageddon delivers this in SPADES. I thought the campaign was fantastic. It does start a little slowly. However persevere and you'll be rewarded with an exhilarating ride. This is a campaign that gets more exciting the farther you go. It has excellent pacing making it lean, mean and fat free. Sure it's generic, replete with gun turrets and exoskeleton madness but when it's this much fun who cares?Armageddon has tight controls, some lovely visuals and top notch cut scenes. The "snap to enemy" trigger mechanic is the best I've seen. When you're surrounded by enemies (which will be often) then it works fluently, sweeping from enemy to enemy with consummate ease. Over the course of the campaign your armoury increases, providing many different weapon types. You also purchase upgrades using salvage collected by destroying buildings. This all adds to your general ability to cause utter destruction. Yup, destruction. Don't listen to the naysayers. There's some seriously cathartic devastation to be found on Armageddon. If you feel short changed then surely only nuclear apocalypse could quell your thirst for chaos. Then there's the co-op survival mode of Infestation. Yes, this is Armageddon's take on the now familiar Horde mode. Nothing new here I confess but it's still brilliant fun. Mainly due to the movement of the aliens. There's no hanging back and waiting for the enemies to plod their way to you. These arachnid style bad boys are above you. Below you. All over you. It's 360 degree fire fighting and there is no respite. Four players ploughing through waves of these necromorph like nasties is an absolute riot. Thousands of bullets will be spent keeping them at bay. It's total chaos and my mates and I love it.For the price this game is going for these days then I say pick it up. You really have nothing to lose. Appreciate it for what it is rather than what it isn't and you surely won't be disappointed. Five stars for a sterling effort.

Red Faction Armageddon is the first game in the Red Faction franchise that I've played since the very first game, and I wasn't disappointed.Red Faction may or may not appeal to you, depending on what you're looking for.The main story gameplay itself is quite linear and restrictive. I wish I could run around and whack people all day with the maul (Thor wishes he had one of these) but alas and alack, with dudes hiding on towers and in far buildings, you can't progress quickly enough without simply obliterating enemies with you (amazingly impressive) array of weapons. On easy mode, it's helpful enough to give you arrows pointing you in the right direction (possibly just because I was dallying, but I was too busy destroying the scenery). Insane mode isn't really that insane, as per the Red Faction on the PC I remembered and loved. Still that doesn't detract from the fun of the wanton destruction you can mete out in this game. The "Infestation" (online play) and "Ruin" modes allow for added depth of play which is acceptable, if not ground-breakingly awesome. After a hard day at the office, it was strangely pleasing to come home, go in to "Ruin" mode, and throw around the scenery with my magnet gun (select a building, then select your "target", and literally watch things fly...)The day they invent a singularity cannon is the night I don't get a good night's sleep because I'm giddy with fear and overexcitement. A black hole in a gun? Yes, please. In short, if you're familiar with the Red Faction game engine, you'll know what to expect - you can blow the scenery to smithereens and happen to kill some bad guys along the way, but the story is straightforward and at times slow. The bonus to the game is the blowing everything to smithereens, be it using black holes in a gun, or projecting entire buildings on to people with your magnet... or just running around with your maul and knocking ten bells of hell out of everyone. Good fun is essentially what I look for in a game, and Red Faction Armageddon has it in spades. However, if you want a variety of challenging enemies and escalatingly difficult gameplay, and difficulty levels that actually appear to mean something, then Red Faction probably isn't for you (or at least wait until it comes down in price a few notches!)

For starters, this game is really a lot of fun. The story in the game is a bit like an failed sci-fi, action, love movie. But that doesn't really matter as those are often not as beautifull to watch but all the more fun. The same goes for this game. As the story progresses you unlock more powerfull weapons and skills. And the bigger the guns get the bigger the destruction gets. The game doesn't get to the top of the graphics list these days but the game also doesn't need to. The destruction is animated very good and quit natural giving it a good feel. 1 big diffference with Red Faction: Guirilla is that it's predecessor really was about destruction and this is more of a shooter.Destruction still plays a good role in the game but it feels a bit more like a shooter then RF:G. This probably is caused by the terrain. Instead of the open marsian landscape you now fight undergroud in more tight and confined spaces. It has a different feel to it but it isn't necessaraly a good nor a bit thing. It's just different. Sometimes i missed the open martian landscape but sometimes the underground settlement had quit a nice feel to itThen you have the infestation mode. This is some sort of survival mode where you try to battle 30 waves of enemies in a certain map, unlocking more weapons as the waves progress. This is a lot of fun especially if you can do it with 1 or more friends. It isen't as unforgiving as zombie's in Call of Duty: Black Ops. This is because if u die in wave 15 u can start again in wave 15 and not from zero again. This makes it more fun for the bit more casual gamer.Last but not least there is the Ruin mode. In this you do the same as it's predecessor. You need to destroy as much as u can in as short as time possible. Again much fun but after a while its gets a bit repetative.Graphics: 7.0Destruction: 9.5Shooting: 8.0Story: 5.5Fun facor: 9.0Overall: 7.8

Ignore all the low star reviews, If they dont like the red faction franchise they shouldnt have bought it.Okay, I am a real red faction, Ive played it since 2001 when the first game came out. Each red faction game has its bad points, and its good points, et they still are all awesome!Armageddon is awesome for the following reasons:DLC...the ammount of downloadable content is really cool for this game,We can download the recon pack, and the commando pack, and this gives you two different uniforms whichlook similar to dead space 2. Also you get 4 new weapons with these uniforms which...are..AWESOME. you can also download new campaign.Weapons...the ammount of different weapons in this game is unreal,I've only been so far and I have found tonssss of different guns! and it introduces loads of new cool guns also, its like christmas day with each new weapon you find lol...this also stops the game from getting old and boring.Combat vehicles...The combat vehicles in this game are numerous and damn awesome, Really fun, really awesome. The Enemies...The enemies are martian aliens, and they are a nice change, real awesome, the fights with them are insane, especialy with the snap-camera aiming system you can go all out with tons of different weapons against hundreds of foes at once, it never gets old.The Upgrads...The upgradesi n this game are awesome its like an RPG! when you get salvage, you can spend it in the upgrade computer and become even stronger! The story...The story is really epic, The graphics are amazing, and the music all go together so well it makes you feel adrenaline when fighting in this game.OVERALL...If you are a red faction fan, this is a must buy. IF you are new to red faction games, I would reccomend this game AND rf 2001 and rf guerilla (skip rf2 it sucks and is irrelevant.) This game really is an awesome action game.

Having recently completed this little chestnut of a game, I have to admit that I did enjoy it. Repetative yes, but enjoyable none the less.I haven't played the previous game but this one is set 25 years on. You are the saviour of Mars as you get sent underground to the mines to sort out the beasties. This is a bug hunt and you are the bug hunter baby!Graphics I thought were excellent and the sound good although the score only kicks in when the bugs are about. There are a lot of them and they can even shoot? Controls are easy to get to grips with and weapons can be upgraded as you go along by collecting tins of salvage. This is one of the few games where the melee weapons are pretty useful.I liked the vehicles, they added a bit of variety to what is a pretty repetative game. You do have to complete objectives but they do involve shooting bugs to complete them. They game is quite long as well.Negatives? Well, as well as being samey it is also bug ridden itself. There is a lot of slowdown when things get frantic on screen particularly at the end where is slows to a crawl. The ending is also a bit severe and lasts too long. You get a couple of mini-game modes as well. Infestation is just horde with bugs and Ruin which promotes destruction of the environment for points. Good for a blast but boring after a while.Overall, an enjoyable game for someone who has a passion for exterminating creepy crawlies. I bought it on sale and its worth a punt if the price is low.

If you go into this game expecting another free roaming adventure then you will come out again thoroughly disappointed. The game is oppressively linear in its construction. Long winding tunnels or large canyons crossed by flimsy bridges all of them funnel you along to the next objective which will invariably be one of three. Destroy, repair or kill. It is only once you realise that this is not what the game is about that you can start having some proper fun. The game knows its not there for its story and has some of the shortest cut-scenes I have ever seen, which you will be grateful for since the less time you spend bothering about the well being of mars the more time you can spend hurlinghalf a building across a room into the face of a ten foot tall exploding alien while hundreds of his friends leap from wall to wall in rage, hurling poison your way until you put them down with a well placed ton of flying rubble. This is all thanks to the magnet gun. Fire one shot and you lay an anchor. Fire another shot and you lay an attractor. Whatever is attached to that anchor will be thrown towards that attractor at break neck speed be it building, alien or merely terrified fanatic. This game isn't about story, set piece or level design. Its about dumping a player in a room with hundreds of enemies and a set of weapons that could level a city in seconds.Oh, and there's a unicorn that fires exploding rainbows out her bum. I know, I didn't get it either.

There are a lot of bad reviews here from people saying Armageddon is nothing like the first one - by which they mean Guerrilla. What they don't seem to know is that Guerrilla is actually the third Red Faction game, making Armageddon the fourth. The first 2 games, back on the PS2, are FPS games. Thus making Armageddon truer to those games than Guerrilla because it is linear, just like they were.Guerrilla is the odd one out in terms of structure and gameplay. It is a fantastic game, I'm simply writing this review to counter the ignorance of this generation's gamers who are slamming Armageddon for not having the same structure as Guerrilla.Armageddon is a true Red Faction game. Plus,it takes the storyline throughout the series full circle - the alien creatures are akin to Capek's monsters featured during the middle of the first Red Faction game - and a statue of Capek even features inside the alien tomb in Armageddon and he is referenced by S.A.M.Therefore, it expands upon the brief section in the middle of the first game in which you fight monsters instead of people. Capek was clearly inspired to create these monstrosities based upon the aliens in Armageddon that he helped to entomb.Armageddon is not without its faults, but it is a true Red Faction game and it is a lot of fun to play - especially using the magnet gun, which is one of the best game weapons ever conceived.

I do not understand the negative reviews that RFA seems to be getting because as far as I'm concerned this is easily one of the most pulse-poundingly incredible video games it's ever been my pleasure to experience.I'd read that the free roaming sandbox that was Guerilla has been replaced by a linear game structure, being a massive, massive fan of RFG I was slightly worried that Armageddon might be a less enjoyable experience, but I can safely say that I like this game even more than it's predecessor. Red Faction's trademark destruction is now coupled with ability to repair the carnage you create in your wake giving you the chance to play in an environment which you can manipulate to your heart's content, factor into this with Singularity Cannon and the jaw dropping Magnet Gun and you have the recipe for something truly exceptional. The graphics are servicable as opposed to exceptional, however the explosions and destruction are a thing of nihilistic beauty and the sheer wanton abandonment of the gameplay more than makes up for it not being as beautiful other AAA titles out there.Overall I can't recommend this highly enough to anyone who likes the idea of smashing things. Plain and simple.

Not sure what I was expecting from this game, but it turned out to be a Dead Space variant with some kewl extra weapons. The enemies are aliens and there's plenty to kill, but rather than relying on the same weapon choice throughout the game you have a great mixture of guns and energy weapons that it really pays off to switch between. The magnetic gun and the destructible scenery are fantastic. Not sure I'll get bored any time soon of slamming a metal tower down into a group of nasties, or dragging a metal shack across the screen and obliterating whatever it is that's firing at me! The other cool feature is the nano forge device which then allows you to magically rebuild everything around you that you've just smashed to pieces. This can be really useful if your running short on ammo or objects to attack with.. just rebuild more scenery to crash down on them. The action is very reminiscent of the Dead Space 3 planet side action, even down to the over-the-shoulder third-person perspective.Well worth a look and good fun.

Was going to avoid this game based on the Metacritic score (73% at time of writing) because while it's not a bad score, there are many 80 to 90+ per cent games still to get through.Anyway, tried the demo on Xbox Live and was so impressed I bought the game straight away.It is like a corridor shooter of old, but with a modern feel. By this I mean that the graphics are top notch, the animation and controls are very smooth and the weapons can be used in quite imaginative ways. You can knock things down and blow them apart and then rebuild them with ease depending on the situation. Messing around and experimenting with your toys is great fun. 4 out of 5 (or 8 out of 10 if you prefer) score from me.Recommended.Pros- Graphics- Controls- Destruction/RebuildingCons- Story nothing special- Could be longer main game- Not open-world like previous game

This game doesnt deserve such poor online reviews. The game is basically a bug hunt through nicely designed and good looking alien underworld. Played the game on normal difficulty and enemy AI was good. Game feels like a cross between Halo, Dead Space and Alien Trilogy with steriods. I am tired of online reviews giving bad reviews to games that have poor story and characters when this is totally irrelevant to video gaming. If you fancy other great games that have had bad reviews try Turok, Wofenstein and Shadows of the Damned. Games I like Resident Evil 4, Dead Space, Just Cause 2, Prototype, COD, Vanquish, Crysis, Far Cry PC, Half Life 2, Infamous, Saints Row 2, Uncharted. If you like games with poor playability or too easy try Dead Island, Binary Domain, Resistance, Mass Effect, Red Dead Redemption, Bioshock, Goldeneye Reloaded.
