The first Rayman, on the PSone, charmed gamers with its delicious visuals, addictive side-scrolling gameplay and its innocent, smile-inducing humour. Rayman Origins, the franchise's latest outing, can be described in exactly the same-way but with one additional trait: its fascinating ability to continuously encapsulate your interest until you're ½ hour-or-so, one-or-two level intended play session has turned into a multi-hour sitting of pure, side-scrolling brilliance. To be so well-immersed in a modern game of this genre is truly an amazing thing. The game's transition from console to Vita is also a completely imperceptible one. The graphics look, without exaggeration,no different from the gorgeous HD visuals your Xboxes and PS3s presented you with. If anything, the visuals look even better on the handheld because the screen is closer. Granted, the Vita's OLED display is also slightly smaller than your HDTVs (hopefully) and so sometimes the wider landscape shots can induce a very slight squint now and then. But the simple, touchscreen-based zoom-in/zoom-out controls will doubtlessly fix any complications you may have in this area. There are even a couple of extra elements for the Vita-version; such as the ability to pop bubbles containing Lums and Hearts or inflated enemies with a simple tap, which avoids the frustrations of the console-versions, where you couldn't get that last Lum just because you couldn't reach it before it was out of range of your fist. There's also Ghost mode which pitches your level-speedrun times against other Vita-players. I suppose this is a welcome feature but probably not one you'll invest much time in.Gameplay, as stated, is loyal to the classic side-scrolling, jump, swing, avoid spiked plant and skinny green guy wearing safari-outfit play-style, which is simple but definitely not repetitive or boring. The variety in the environments and level-structures as well as the pacing in unlocking abilities and characters, and even the progression in enemy-types is as impressive as that of any other game of any other genre. Additionally, I'm not even a fan of arcade-style side-scrolling games. I enjoyed LIMBO but found it a rather forgettable production and I've only ever played the first Rayman, and even in that I hardly got anywhere as I just found the game frustratingly difficult most of the time. But Rayman Origins is consitently fun and has a great difficulty progression which doesn't present you with seemingly impossible level-structures where you had to avoid three different kinds of attack simultaneously while trying to time your jumps to land on platforms before they disappear again, and then making you start all over again if you fail (Rayman 1). Origins has similar scenarios but seems to give you more time to plan your moves so its more a case of your skill with the timing rather than being a master of reflexes and button-control. The faster, more intense scenes are actually made more accessible as well as you seem to be able to plot your route through the level much easier and so you can be jumping, swinging and avoiding obstacles at fast pace, on your first playthrough while still feeling extremely cool, especially in the more epic, almost set-piece-like levels where debris is falling down on you or parts of the level are collapsing while you chase after a captured fairy.I hope I'm not upsetting anyone when I say Rayman Origins is actually my favourite Vita game so far. Yes, Fifa, Everybody's Golf and Virtua Tennis will more than satisfy your sporting fancies. Yes, Uncharted will once again draw you into another great story-driven, intense platforming shooter. Marvel vs Capcom and Wipeout might even eat up a few dozen of those empty hours in your lives. But, in my opinion, Rayman is the only game which provides the illusion that you're holding your very own portable next-gen console in your hands. Yes, that is because the game is a port but look at the rest, every release can be described as a port in their own way. Origins supports the greatest visuals on the console, and offers simple gameplay that may not equal Dynasty Warriors' stratagem or Uncharted's set-piece driven intensity, but is perhaps still the more reliable of games to deliver exactly what gamers want from the Vita: accessible, engaging and immersive next-gen fun, on-the-go.

Lets begin with the first thing you notice when you open the game, the graphics. Rayman boasts hand drawn graphics with a very unique art style which is the best I have ever seen in a platformer. Without hesitation I can call Rayman the best looking platformer I have ever played and many times it will make you freeze, staring at the screen. The vibrant colours feel as if they are coming out of your tv, especially on the later levels with the fast paced chases will you marvel at the colour palettes used in the game. The amount of creativity in RO will overwhelm you, as you play this beauty prepare to see weird things such as giant toothpaste packets which shoot fire at stoves to cook thunderstorms, can't visualise that? I couldn't either till I saw it and used it in the game to progress. What I truly love about RO is how diverse each world is, everytime you enter a new world in RO you will feel a massive difference from the previous world as everything in the environment drastically changes. This change is not only pleasant to the eyes but is also a pleasure to play as each world has different types of plat-forming challenges, example, in the grassy world you will come across a lot of hillside jumps, water slides avoiding spikes but in the gourmand world you will be jumping on cheese, avoiding flaming toothpaste and jumping on top of sausages to avoid the deathly forks. Yes the change is extremely polar opposite.A game is nothing without its controls and that's fortunate for RO as its controls hold much fluidity. Similar to the general plat-former you will be running and jumping but thats not it. In RO you will gain new powers as you traverse the worlds, the powers will make the game feel fresh as you will not be getting bored of doing the same thing over and over again. Other than the platforming levels RO almost boasts 2D shooting and flying levels which are Not many paltformers can make an enjoyable 2-4 player experience without becoming too chaotic and headache inducing, however don't be worried as RO runs well with 4 players playing together and can surely conjure some laughter. One gripe and my only gripe with RO is the lack of online multiplayer as the game is fully offline and I believe that it is one area where Ubisoft could have lost potential. The music is very important for a game, from Skyrim's orchestral soundtrack which pits you into a fantasy world to Mario's upbeat music which you will be humming years down the line, a gamer will always appreciate the music in the game. RO not only has some of the weirdest music I have ever heard in a game but it also has some of the most funny, catchy and cute music I have ever heard. The soundtrack knows how to put a smile on your face, the ukulele is nicely played, the random singing in a made up language never gets old and the chef's singing in the gourmand levels will be the newest melody you will be singing in the shower.RO is roughly 6-7 hours long if you rush through it and although it may seem short, trust me, this is a game which will encourage you to do all the extra challenges, speed trophies and what nots. Where games like Uncharted 3 and Sonic generations could not grab my attention into doing their 'extras' for trophies, I'm sure ill be going back to RO soon. With extra challenges, levels which you unlock through collecting all the little plectoons and speed trophies, you can easily spend around 15+ hours in RO.After playing Rayman Origins and completing it, I was in the middle of writing this review. However due to a couple complications I was unable to write this review for a week in which time I completed both Super Mario Bros 3 and Sonic generations. After completing them when I came back to the review for Rayman, I realised how amazing this game is, it has the diversity in controls sonic would die for and the graphics mario would salivate over. Rayman Origins is head and shoulders with its competition and in some cases is even better than the platformers out there, I'm speaking of you Sonic. This is a masterpiece in game design, art style and fun factor. I recommend it to everyone out there form 6 year old kids to 60 year old crack addicts, ofcourse don't put a kid and a crack addict in the same room. I give Rayman Origins a 9.5 out of 10.9.5/10

In 1994 i received a SNES for christmas, bundled, with what i think is one of the greatest games of all time, Donkey Kong Country 1. Platform games, have always had a place in my heart, because of the countless hours, days, months, and years i had with that game. Not many have come close to matching, the tight, crisp , responsive platforming genius that is DKC. Until now. This game, has put a smile on my face from ear to ear for nigh on two weeks and i still havn't finished with this beaut of a game yet. This game stands for passion, it demands your time and attention, and it will reward you with hours of great fun. The detailed 2D, hand drawn graphics and sprites are staggeringly beautiful. The hours and passion that must have gone into making each frame a kinetic, breathable world will have you just standing still to absorb the level of thought and ideas that as gone into each frame. The game levels and art direction flow with a purpose, chutes, and chasms draw your eye as you try to avoid falling to your death. Ramps and jumps, lead into open world expanses that live in a world of there own. The art direction makes you want to explore every single nook and cranny, not just for collecting game world materials, but to see what else lives in Rayman's world. With an increasingly stale gaming market its nice that people still have the fire to create something that comes from inside rather something that is being dictated from graphs and charts upstairs in the boardroom. Its ironic then that this game comes from the same publisher that churns out more shovelware than one could care for. Yet like with the Assassin Creed series, it has some how created something of real value that deserves to be played. There as been some truly remarkable looking games this generation, but often enough art direction is not matched by a coherent game. Thankfully, the platforming is literally near nigh on perfect, and this is clearly shown when you are completing levels for multiple reasons. You can play the game in a standard affair, just going to clear the level, to get to the next one. You can play the level to collect everything. You can play the level, to get through it in the quickest way possible. And each time the level mechanics flow with perfection whether its the delicate quick jumps you need to achieve the fastest time possible or the game leaving room for trial and error as you search for electrons (think Donkey Kong Bananas, and Mario's Coin's). The game is suited to exploration, the game is generous in that lives do not exist and that there are three or four checkpoints in each level which enable you to spend time working out jumps, and searching for hidden areas to 100% levels. Despite the game offering you infinite lives, the latter levels are really challenging and require every bit of skill you have learnt, whilst not being unfair. The game structure is that of a typical platformer, you have a 2d map, with various levels in each world. These world exist and build up to the final boss. Each area has its own theme whether it be set in the jungle, underwater, or a industrial nightmare with its own wicked sense of humour. Yes i forgot to mention the humour. Think a heavy dose of Terry Gilliam illustration, combined with a Road Runner and Tom and Jerry spontaneity. The humour is very much visual, but often the rawkous sound effects leaves you in tears. And thens theres that Treasure Chest. Ahh yes just think Terry Pratchett and you get a rough idea.Rayman Origins is something special. It doesn't quite match the perfection that is DKC, but its so close. And that says a lot about this game. From the hand drawn art work that rivals Studio Ghibli's worlds, to the tight and responsive controls, to extremely well designed levels. From the deep and rewarding gameplay, and if you want too, a game with actual longevity, whether be it just wanting to play the levels again to actually wanting to get everything. Which there is alot. This game is a must own title. The gaming world as changed a lot in the last few years, its taken a game with old values to remind us of how unique, vibrant, and fun gaming can be.

Rayman Origins is one of the best platform games I have played (and I've played a lot). From the moment I picked up the control pad everything just felt right. The controls are responsive, the artwork is fantastic (it's all hand drawn) and the music has a real charm to it. In fact I have very little to criticise the game for.Rayman Origins follows the usual 2D platformer rules in that you run from left to right avoiding obstacles and punching/jumping on bad guys while trying to reach the end of the level. Once you reach the end you obtain an Electoon. When you collect enough of these you unlock later levels and new playable characters. There are between three and six Electoons available in each level for completing various tasks, these include finding secret areas, collecting Lums (the in-game currency) and finishing a speed run within a specified time. This gives the game a fair amount of replay value as you soon find yourself replaying levels to find missed Electoons, Lums or trying for the speed run Electoon. Each level also offers a Medallion for obtaining 350 or more Lums and also a Gold Cup for beating the more challenging speed run time. Neither Medallion nor Gold Cup add anything to the game (other than Trophies/Achievements) and you do not need to collect these to progress within the game.In addition to the standard platform levels there are the mandatory side scrolling shoot 'em up levels and also my favourite part of the game, the Tricky Treasure levels. Each world/area has one Tricky Treasure level in it, if you complete the level you earn a Skull Tooth. These Tricky Treasure levels are a white knuckle ride of platforming genius. You chase the chest from the beginning of the level to the end. The difference here is that if you make one mistake it's all over. There are no checkpoints and no second chances, it's do or die. These levels are easily some of the best I have played (check out Pirates Treasure - one of the most perfect examples of platforming). Complete all ten of these levels and you open up the Land Of The Livid Dead bonus area. If you get this far prepare to die quite a lot, this final long level is the games most challenging. In general the difficulty level isn't too tough. I read several reviews saying that the game gets too difficult as you progress but I never felt like it was overly hard. There are generous checkpoints throughout most levels and respawns are infinite so you only ever have the next checkpoint to beat. If you want to collect and earn everything the game has to offer then yes it does become harder, particularly the latter speed runs but none of this is required to beat the game. I'd say it was challenging but fair. The story of the game is probably it's weakest point. I have no idea what was really going on and I kinda wished for the simplicity of a missing princess or something along those lines. Completing the last story level left me feeling a little hollow. The game does tend to lack a final finishing touch which is a bit of a shame.I originally bought Rayman Origins to play in co-op with my 6 year old son. While it's probably too difficult for him to play alone the drop in/out co-op co-op is perfect. If any character dies onscreen they appear in a floating bubble which you can guide to another player, once the bubble is burst they are back in the game. There were a few occasions where having more than one person playing at a time was a drawback, the screen tends to follow one player or another which can result in those exploring or taking their time being left off screen and killed. Aside from that it all works well.Rayman Origins really is one of the best platformers I have had the pleasure to play. It's better than some Mario games and on a par with the best of them. Enjoy.

Ubisoft have added some more collectibles which make use of the Vita's touch screen. You can access a time trial menu from the games front screen and some of the levels are a little easier over the home console versions (an enemy missing here and there). You can also collect Lums by using the touch screen as opposed to having Rayman collect them onscreen, handy for grabbing those floating ones you missed.Rayman Origins really is one of the best platformers I have had the pleasure to play. Awesome little Platformer with buckets of charm and detail. This game's awesome, especially when playing with three other players as the levels can for the most part be quite fast paced and hectic depending on how you want to play and who it is you're playing with. Essentially the main goal through a typical level is to free the Electoons (Little pink creatures with blond pony-tails) of which there will be 6 to get in each level. The first 3 are within there cages that you'll have to seek out as you make progress through a level with another 2 being rewarded to you depending on how many Lums you collect (Little yellow things that float) which are scattered in great numbers throughout, the more you get the better. The last Electoon is rewarded via a time trial where you blast you way through the level as fast as you can, ignoring every collectible and enemy that may slow you down, reminded me a lot of Crash Bandicoot 3 with those Time Relics. But this goes back to when I mentioned the pace depends on how you play, Make sure when you're paying with a friend that you both agree on the same play style, either take it slow and try and hunt down every Electoon or have a joy-ride and play through the levels as you see fit as long as you're having a blast. This is important because the combat is particularly slapstick with friendly fire, meaning expect to get real angry with your siblings and friends when they slap you off the stage. In that respect playing solo will for the most part be easier to collect the Lums as you'll be moving at your own pace and will be less likely to miss anything. The art style is fantastic with every environment and world having it's own unique colour palette and feel. The soundtrack matches or even surpasses that with a sound that you WON'T hear from any other game, making it unforgettable months after playing the damn thing.Through a world you will also encounter a Nymph (Fairy) who has been caged and once freed will entitle you with a new power or ability which will open more platforming choices in the levels and words to come.As you gradually build up Electoons you will also gradually unlock skins for you to change into in the 'Snoring Tree' (Your main hub). Although just bear in mind that they're just skins and there isn't anything too overwhelming in that department. Actually my main quarrel with this game is that you're given three characters that have a set amount of skins to unlock, but with a game that has been some-what been built around 4-player co-op, why no fourth character? (This was improved in the sequel 'Rayman Legends').Over 60 levels 246 Total Electoons4 player co-op (Online or Local) 10 skull teeth (Every world will have a 'Tricky Treasure' race ...they're amazing :P)6 major boss battles (few minor ones) 16 Total skinsHope this helps you in some way,Have fun! I usually write reviews of video games on Gamespot, so I won't draw this out for long because I'll have a full written review out at a later date which you'll be able to find on my Gamespot page here:- [...]Simply put, it's been a long time since we've had a game like this, a total blast from the past brought further to life with a number of incredible enhancements, whilst keeping the same old formula. It's been a while since we've had a fast paced, fast loading, genuinely challenging, original game out on the video game market, a game that you can just pop in and play. Rayman Origins delivers on all fronts, in terms of it's fast paced, frantic gameplay, it's superb co-op capabilities,it's kooky level design, enemies, it's bizarrely lovable yet hilarious soundtrack, and so on.Rayman Origins plays similarly to the original Rayman in a few ways, with many enhancements, everything is alot faster now, you now have the ability to climb far more effectively. You can also do wall jumps which work extremely well and encourage you to explore every part of each of the gorgeous levels the game is packed with, a wall running ability is also obtainable in the game, allowing you to run right up the side of certain walls and even upside down. All these great new powers make for a tonne of fun and the developers have taken the innovation in the level design and these powers to a great new level. On a graphical note, I've never seen anything quite like Rayman Origins, and I mean that in a good way. The art style is fantastic and the level design is superb, the game looks absolutely fantastic on my 1080p HDTV, very crisp and full of life and colour, it's a crystal clear, cartoony, crazy universe.I will say this, be prepared for a challenge, and I mean it, this is probably one of the hardest platformers I've ever played, some of the optional "Tricky Treasure" levels can be excruciatingly hard, You can take a maximum of two hits before you die as well, if you don't find a heart object in a level then you'll only be able to take one hit, it's a hard game, but definitely worth playing, after all, I personally like a challenge. There's not much else for me to say that won't be said in my Gamespot review, I'd recommend this game to pretty much anyone out there, it's just the perfect platforming game, it's absolutely flooded with great, traversable levels and innovation, but really there's nothing I can fault it for, it runs extremely smoothly and it's a blast to play, alone or with friends, and for parents, if your kids aren't like I was when I was their age, if they don't bash their controllers against the wall in frustration of dying a few times in a row like I used to when I was alot younger, then they will love this game. Thanks for reading!

It's been a tough start for Rayman Origins after failing to chart in the midst of the pre-Christmas rush. Being sent out to battle against Mario and Sonic is a tough call for any platform star. Here's the thing, though. Rayman Origins gets my vote for platform game of the year. Buzzing with ideas, bursting with graphical splendour and charming with gorgeous sound, it's non-stop fun from start to finish. In recent years, many of the best platformers have gone leftfield, with the likes of Limbo and Braid leading the way. Origins' rich humour and painterly visions provide a similar artistic flair here, but this is all backed up by a classic mainstream gameplay experience that can and will be loved by all the family, especially through the 4-player mode. Not that this means you'll enjoy it any less on your own as someone who grew up in the 16-bit Golden Age of the genre and wants to appreciate the finest love letter to that period going around today. I can vouch for that. (And, yes, I know Rayman is technically from the 32-bit era, but he was writing fan mail to the previous generation back then.)Challenging but never unfair, Ubisoft has come up with some of the best pure platforming I've played in a long time. Origins has the smarts of Mario and, in places, the speed of Sonic. It also has perhaps the best underwater levels I've ever seen. There'll be no sighing like there is with Sonic as soon as you dive into the wet stuff, instead there will be awe. 'Swimming With Stars' is a tour de force of gameplay, graphics and sound combined, but only one of many highlights. Yes, there are the expected tropes of ice, lava, jungles, but that's what you want, especially when they come with the refreshing new twists and stunning HD layouts offered here. There's nothing to fault. Reaching the end credits is an attainable goal, with better rewards to be found in going back and striving for completion. Trophies add much to the replayability as well. That's one reason to go with PS3 over Wii. Why I chose and would recommend it on Sony's console over 360 is down to the controller. For the most part I opted to use the d-pad, which is infinitely better on the PS3 controller and, as far as I'm concerned, the best way to play any 2D platformer. Using the analogue stick is a perfectly viable option, though, so if that's your preference, go for it.Origins could have come recommended on graphics alone. It's the Donkey Kong Country of this generation. You have to play it if only to see it, but once you start playing, you'll soon realise the graphics aren't what's keeping you hooked. An essential experience once it enters your acceptable price range. Just remember, it's a joy to play and, really, that's priceless.

I was sold on this game after playing the demo for about 30 seconds. Very few games do that to me these days.I have to admit I was in awe of the graphics - they really are beautiful - playing Rayman is like playing a cartoon; something we've probably all wished for over the years. It has been achieved here! But as we know graphics don't mean anything if they can't be backed up with gameplay and Rayman has nailed this. All I can remember of the Rayman of old is how spectacularly hard it was. Rayman Origins is no pushover and there is a genuine challenge here. The game will make you repeat areas if you fail but it doesn't become horribly repetitive because the levels are broken down into bitesize chunks that are challenging, manageable yet still give a sense of satisfaction on completion - especially in two player co-op.I've seen a few of the game worlds so far and they've each been lovingly designed - special mention must be made of the forest levels - absolutely stunning but all the worlds feel they have had care and attention lavished on them.Gamplay is broken up by swimming and flying levels which are huge fun; the flying ones in particular are great. I played through these on a co-op mode where one of us was riding a fly and the other character was actually carried by a mini-fly hanging onto the character's back - cute and funny at the same time. But saying that, the swimming levels are also brilliant accompanied by great smile inducing music. The music and sound effects overall also incredibly creative. Everything is super cute but comically so - so many of the sound effects have raised a smile whilst playing and this really adds to the overall feel of the game. You may think it's just a kids platformer but it isn't - parts of it are hard! It's the kind of game that really encourages you to press on just to see what's in store for you next and so you can marvel at the artwork in the graphics and sound. As you progress through the game character skins are unlocked as are abilities such as wall walking and gliding flight which you'll need to be able to navigate the levels to come. You always have to option of re-doing older levels to collect more Lums with the overall aim being to collect electoons for your medallions. Large numbers are required to unlock certain areas of the game.I can't find fault with this game - it's beautiful to look at, awesome to listen to and has really well balanced difficulty suitable for casual gamers whilst also offering a challenge for hardcore platformers. The price has plummeted making this game a complete bargain - just buy it you'll love it I'm sure.

With so many games these days focusing their stories on dark and bleak themes such as apocalyptic zombie attacks, all out nuclear war and the end of humanity as we know it. Rayman Origins is a much needed respite from the dull browns and camo greens of blockbuster triple A games. It's a colourful game full of great humour and beautiful artwork, but this doesn't mean that the core gameplay has been watered down, far from it in fact. Rayman Origins is one of the best platformers I've played in a long time where accuracy and skill are as important as colourful backdrops and bizarre characters.Your main objective in Rayman Origins is to collect enough Lums to unlock the next set of levels. There are six environments to play through and each environment has its own selection of bad guys trying to ruin Rayman and Co's good time. To increase the re-playability of the game Ubisoft has also added hidden areas which will need to be cleared in order to 100% complete a level.Every character in the game has been hand drawn and on the Vita's 5" OLED screen looks stunning. Each environment you visit has also been wonderfully crafted, whether it's the lush jungles, turquoise oceans or the icy arctic each location really adds to the fun of your experience. The animations of the enemies are also noteworthy with very funny reactions to Rayman's attacks and the way characters move in general.Another area to comment on is the audio, the music in the game is brilliant a mix of upbeat ukulele, laid back piano and energetic mariachi vocals. The only criticism of the audio I would make however is that after you get three hours or so into the game the music does become quite repetitive, with hardly any variation in the later levels. The fact that Rayman Origins is a 2D game is also a positive, even though it might not seem like one from the offset. As all PS Vita owners know the battery life of our chosen handheld is less than ideal. However thanks to Rayman's 2D nature it requires very little of the Vita's processing power, therefore will not drain the battery as quickly as a processor heavy game such as Uncharted: Golden Abyss. So in conclusion Rayman Origins is a brilliantly light hearted game, full of colour and humour. It's a game that appears on the surface to be aimed at children but in truth is a solid platformer which requires genuine timing and ability, especially in the later levels. It is a charming game that has been lovingly put together by Michel Ancel and his team at Ubisoft and one that you should definitely add to your collection.

In a time where 3D games are dime and dozen and the PS3 is filled to the brim with mind numbing FPS after FPS, Rayman Origins took the PS3 world by storm. It is, without a doubt, the most beautiful 2d platform game for the PS3, and it just doesn't stop at being merely beautiful. As of 2012, there isn't a game in this genre for the PS3 that can equal Rayman Origins in terms of graphics, sounds, and multi-skill level gameplay. The best part about this game is, you can choose the difficulty you want by choosing how perfectly you want to play the game. The game allows you to revisit levels you're already completed and replay them to better yourself and to gain more lums or trophies. It doesn't force you to play a level absolutely perfectly, you can either run through levels to completion or you can try to collect all items, find all secrets and perfect the level. It's your choice! This way you won't find yourself frustrated about not finishing a level, you can always come back to it!While this game can be extremely difficult in certain levels (some of the treasure hunt levels) and the sheer satisfaction of trying a level 20 or 30 times (without getting bored!) and finally capturing that treasure is hard to explain in words, they are not necessary in order to complete the game.So it's clear that this game can be played by a very wide variety of skill levels, don't let the cartoony graphics fool you into thinking this is a walk-in-the-park 1 hour game. There are many lums to collect and secrets to find and even more fun with couch sharing local co-op!The story isn't really amazing, but the game does a fine job of explaining things and has some unlockable character costumes for Rayman and his friends. The creatures, levels and ambiance are varied and very aesthetically pleasing to look at. Some truly gorgeous background and object artwork!Pros:- Amazing full HD graphics, silky-smooth animation and high level of detail- Vibrant colours, loads of levels with varied artwork- Super-easy controls, very responsive- Challenging you at every level to push you just that little bit more while not frustrating you with defeat- Well placed checkpoints will keep you from getting frustrated when you character dies- Has 4 player co-op mode, need I say more?Cons:- No network play- No DLCThe only reason I gave it 4 out of 5 stars is lack of DLC. This game is just too good to keep it back in the box and forget about it for years.Bottom line: Like 2d platformers? Get this. End of story.

I love this game so much because it reminds me of those good old platform games that I used to play which were simply just such good fun. This game is so absolutely full of fun, charm and the cartoon characters and music make it something very special and different.I bought this for my 8 year old Sonic the Hedgehog mad son and although it took some convincing to drag him away from his Sonic Generations game to play it he now absolutely loves it too.The graphics are absolutely fantastic and the gameplay and controls super smooth. It is quite difficult when you get mid point into the game and you need to be completely precise in your movements particularly on the treasure levels otherwise yourdead basically but it does not spoil the game at all and as you have infinite lives you can just keep replaying the level until you get through it. I also absolutely love the fact that it doesn't pop up with a flaming annoying character offering to complete the level for you like in Donkey Kong which totally ruined the game IMO.It is completely possible to complete these very difficult levels by basically just repeating them over and over until your learn the route/moves.I would imagine a much younger child would have difficulty as it is very tricky and would imagine cause a lot of frustration for some youngsters so that might be something you may need to consider although my 8 year old does not have any trouble with it and although finds it frustrating now and again he still comes back for more. You will be forever shouting "let me out!" lol. You'll know what I mean when you play the game in multiplayer which is absolutely fantastic by the way and I wouldn't want to play it any other way.It is wonderfully satisfying when you complete the trickier levels and as I said above the treasure levels in particular are very difficult as there are no save points. Saying that thought these levels are quite short and it would not be as much fun if they were made too easy to complete. If you get tired of getting killed over and over again there is plenty of other things to do in the game until you are ready for the challenge again!I feel that it would have been even more enjoyable if the characters that you unlock as you go along would have been more interesting as most of them appear to be exactly the same just dressed a little differently unless I am completely missing something (?) but this does not detract from this superb game in any way.Well deserving of its 5 stars in every way.

Rayman is truly a game like no other. Not only is it's visuals groundbreaking, Rayman Origins manages to redefine the 2D platformer through first-class animation, thrilling gameplay and exudes a charm far greater than LocoRocco or LittleBigPlanet. The story begins with our hero alongside his side-heroes, Globox and the teensies, in a hilarious opening cutscene. It is then they must prevent global catastrophe from the darktoons and restore the crazy world to it's former glory. The story is simply there to fill in loose ends. It's not interesting nor gripping in any way. This is the brilliance of it.You are simply here to have fun. And that's the message of this game. You must navigate your way through expertly designed 2D wonders and fight the boss at the end. Sounds dull, but the adventure to the end is unforgettable. Rayman and co. will unlock permanent abilities which they can use to go back to previous levels and pick up collectables. Such abilites include the ever memorable helicopter glide, sprinting, swimming, shrinking and punching. Most importantly, it reminds fans of old what brought them to the series in the first place. It plays almost exactly like the original Rayman except with an obvious overhaul. Even the mosquito is back fully ridable, and will no doubt send the feeling of nostalgia down your spine. Never in my life have I seen an art style quite so elegant; moving leaves, flowing water all chock full of colour. On a big HDTV, you'll no doubt be hypnotised by it's alluring charm and oozing brilliance. And, even after Rayman's good sized campaign, there is more than enough reason to come back, moreso with friends. Whilst co-op doesn't offer a completely different experience, it is where the fun of Rayman lies. Slap each other silly and compete for the top spot, it simply doesn't get much better than this. The only downside is that there's no online co-op which may put a few of you off.My impressions for one of the best games of 2011 were outstanding, however I was largely disappointed when I read the sales figures for Rayman. Despite it's awesomeness it doesn't appear to have gone down too well with the consumer for some odd reason. That's why I'm here to totally avert your eyes from it's poor sales, and hopefully you'll buy this. It's an experience not to be missed.Story-8.0Graphics-10.0Gameplay-10.0Sound-9.0Replay Value-9.0Overall-9.2/10

What more can I say about this game that hasn't already been said in the previous reviews? It is absolutely brilliant in each and every way that it could be. First and foremost the visuals are beautiful, I've never seen such a gloriously animated game. The sound too is absolutely perfect with music and sound effects that adapt as the game progresses and very often leave you cracking up with laughter. This just leaves the little matter of the gameplay and this is where Rayman Origins truly makes me happy. It is like the "good old days" of early platformers but taken to a whole new level thanks to the capabilities of the modern generation of consoles. The game is perfectly paced with a difficulty curve that makes it easy for anybody to pick up but also tricky enough to keep even the most hardened gamers extremely challenged at times. In solo mode there is more than enough to keep you occupied and challenged for hours on end, but it is in the multiplayer co-op mode where this game truly comes into its own. I played it recently with three friends, all long time gaming fans, and each and every one of them was blown away by this gem of a game. At times we were in fits of laughter, at others we were cheering each other on as we got through difficult levels, especially the treasure chest chases where your hopes often lie on the one person who somehow manages to keep up! After every level the game tots up each individual's score of how many "Looms" they collected and this also brings some wicked competition to the game. Whilst the team may have a collective goal of getting to the end of the level we found ourselves doing what we could to get the best score along the way, and this often lead to the odd "misguided attack" here and there! Since that night two of my friends have gone on to buy copies of the game for themselves and for me that really shows what an enjoyable game this is and it embodies just how fun it can be to play video games.

The current generation of video games and consoles have left me slightly cold as of late. Having been a gamer most of my life, I have recently become a little disenchanted by what has been made available to us these past 5 years. In the PS2 days all I wanted from the next generation was improved graphics, faster load times and more of the same with what I was playing all ready. Instead, the current generation has become swamped with endless loading screens, unskippable business logos, constant firmware updates, and DLC offers on the day of release. I feel I spend more time waiting these days than I do actually playing.Thank the heavens for Rayman Origins. I have been waiting years for a game like this. With very little loading times, the game starts you off almost immediately and it is quite simply a joy to play. It looks stunning too. Origins is a simple 2D traditional platforming game. There is no online multiplayer to speak of. Instead the game encourages you to play the traditional way; with friends and family around you. It's the type of game I grew up with and the kind of game I want to see more of in the future. My concern is that people will overlook this title in favour of the same old same old we've been getting every year for the last 5 years. You all know what I'm talking about. Get off your Call of Dutys and Battlefields. Take a break from post apocalyptic sandboxes and play a game that deserves to be played.I'm not a reviewer. I find it difficult to express what I think of a game or how best to explain what it is about. But I felt the need to let people know about this game. It is a release that has been met with critical acclaim that's at risk of being overlooked by the big name games you have all played before. Rayman Origins deserves your time, and it deserves that you give it the time to play both on your own and with your nearest and dearest.
