The hours I spent on railroad tycoon 3 when I was younger. I’ve always loved building/management games, from Sim City/Railroad Tycoon, through Transport Tycoon/Theme Hospital/Rollercoaster Tycoon and now up to Cities Skylines/Tropico 5 and this. If you like any of those games or the countless other similar games, this is a game you’ll enjoy. While it’s not the most complex game you’ll ever play, it engrosses you and you’ll lose countless hours maximising the efficiency of your lines. There is a story mode to play through, preset scenarios, free mode (where you play the scenarios but can adjust various difficulties) and a sandbox mode where money is no object.Whatever mode you select, the game will give you a set of tasks to complete within a set time period, in story and scenario these are all preset tasks but in free mode these will be different each time you load a map up. From then on it’s about building track to connect cities and businesses, buying trains and managing them, delivering goods to cities to meet their demands to help them grow in population and in turn open up new business opportunities and buying the businesses to help make you even richer.Graphics aren’t the best but the world still looks good, especially when you’re riding on board a train along a route you’ve just carved in the picturesque landscape.

It's been a long time since Railroad Tycoon so this was a must-buy for me. There are similarities but technology has moved on and this is a more complete game than RT. Building stations and laying track are fun and easy to get into, although as your network becomes more complex there can be one or two line conflicts that shouldn't occur. The campaign is ok but quite quick to complete; it's the scenarios that provide the bulk of the gameplay and these are pretty tough to complete. Each has multiple tasks you need to complete by a deadline and it's possible to think you are doing well only to fail a late task and it's game over after several hours play.AI competitors can be rather annoying; theydon't obey the same rules as you and can have multiple trains on one line making it easy and cheaper for them. Also frustratingly there's nothing you can do to stop a competitor from buying all your shares and ending the game. On the other hand it's quite satisfying to buy them out yourself.Overall it's quite addictive; if you enjoy strategy games like this you will probably waste many hours transporting cows to Omaha.

I want to give this 5 stars because once you’re up and running, it’s awesome fun. Seeing your trains whizz around your giant trainset is very satisfying. The campaign is essentially a long tutorial, but it’s fun and helpful and worth doing before playing sandbox mode. The controls initially are unintuitive, but once you get to grips with them they’re absolutely fine, though obviously this game was intended for mouse and keyboard. It takes a lot of patience to get in to this game but after a few hours you’re away! Yes the controls are intended for pc but they’ve done a good job on the PS4 despite the initial frustrations. It’s very satisfying watching your empire grow and riding along on the trains never gets old.Best strategy game I’ve played on the PS4 to date.I’m even considering getting the uk and Ireland dlc add on - addons usually being something I avoid.

Not sure if it's just me not being use to these style games but it could do with better detail on how to build rail. A couple of times I needed Google help to find out what I was supposed to do exactly. The first part about connecting multiple lines together literally told me nothing about what buttons to press or how to switch lines, it just pointed me to the line and told me to figure it out by myself. But once you get use to what to do and how to do it then it's a pleasant game to play. I'm not big on trains either. Just got into sim stuff from Bus Simulator and Farm Simulator and continue to grow interest in various creative sim builders etc. Though the graphics are pretty basic, for the price it's still a bargain buy.

I was slightly hesitant in buying this for the PS4, wondering how the controls would translate to the PS4 controller, but I've found that it works well. It's not amazing, but you get used to it after a few days of playing. The story mode is quickly completed, but the Scenarios are a challenging mode and offers a lot of repeat play to ensure you complete them achieving all the tasks. There's a definite lack in tutorialge, but if you spend 30 minutes online reading about the best way to play the game you'll get so much more out of it. Many an early hour has been lost to playing this devilishly addictive sim. Worth it for £20, would be more put off if it was £25+

Love city strategy games and this is a variation on that theme and it's based on railways rather than roads. Simple layout with easy to navigate menus and the tips and tricks and onscreen help videos are a great idea. Once you've learnt the basics like buildings, track construction, placing signals and traffic flow thge game is as hard or easy as you want it to be. Graphics are very good and controls on the xbox controller are very responsive, overall a very good game if this is your thing. Love to see a UK based version of this game really.

I have zero regrets buying this game. I've already poured a disturbing amount of hours into it, incredibly addictive. Just the notion of watching that little train do its tailored job chuffing up and down the map is incredibly satisfying. My only qualm is the Nintendo Switch port means the graphics could be better (I'm a Mac guy before anyone tells me the PC version of the game is better), but if you can see past this, you're a Switch exclusive and like trains, this is absolutely your bag.

May I suggest PC players read the extensive excellent reviews on Steam also. This is a great game, nice mechanics, graphics, playability, DLCs, new releases and good comms with the dev team. Really enjoying. The console control comments don’t surprise me I would only play a strategy/builder/economy game like this with a keyboard and mouse, unfortunately the one star console reviews has rubbished what is a good PC game . . so recommend Steam and PC path for best results.

Railroad empire is based on the pc and other console versions of the game with 3 dlc included. The controls do take time to get use but there not complicated. I recommend following tutorials as even after playing various versions i still forgot half the things. Railroad empire is a sim so building isn't your only thing you have to keep an eye on your finances and competitors aswell, overall its a good game with good graphics but has a high difficulty but worth it.

If you like games like cities, tropico etc this is a must. The controls are simple not sure what the other reviewer was on about, if you do find them difficult unlike most games this one comes with a good old fashioned manual. Plays well looks good easy to pick up, I know the ai cheat and glitch when playing them but this has been noted and patched soon along with adding a multiplayer.

Link cities, farms, resources etc...lots to it do so check out gameplay on YouTube first. If you like Sid Meier's railroads or the tycoon games you will enjoy this. Despite another review the controller set up is fine...difficult maybe if you're a toddler, cack handed or a bit dumb. Personally this is a game I can always go back to and enjoy...like surviving mars!

Excellent game if you like the simulation/management genre of games. absolutely loads of content in the complete edition, can take over 100 hours if going for every scenario. Also maybe a slight difference between consoles but for the Xbox version all the DLC expansions are on the disc, no DLC codes needed

A good strategy game when you figure it all out. Instructions are lacking, but some Youtube videos and googlingwill get you there. Can be challenging playing against AI's, and is addictive once you get into it.

I had a Railway Empire on PC and played it many, many times, but this one on xbox one really blows the mind. it came in perfect condition, postage very fast, well done.

Very addictive, once I had worked out the controls! The accompanying book, is only in French, Italian and Spanish and so, it was a trial and error, to begin with
