We bought this for our five year old son as we'd previously bought him the Gears! Gears! Gears! set and been a little disappointed. Partly our own fault as that system is really only suitable for older children, and also because it's quite fiddly, with pieces that are tough to click together and almost impossible to take apart. This, more simple cog building system is much more appropriate for our five-year-old's ability level, and means he can take charge of the construction rather than watching us do it!This set ingeniously combines two different building elements.First, you construct a peg-board like base out of large, white, plastic sections that are shaped like jigsaw puzzle pieces. These can be connected to make any shaped base you like, and have holes like a peg board all over them.Next, you attach a four-pronged peg onto the back of the cogs (or gears). You only need to do this the first time you use them, though they are relatively easy to disassemble if you want. That peg allows you to attach the cogs to the base that you've made, by slotting the four prongs into the peg-holes. You need to position the cogs so that they interconnect correctly - this is a little fiddly as the plastic prongs are quite thin and prone to being bent slightly out of shape, and you need all four to align with the holes in the board. I've marked the set down a star for this as more ridged pegs would have been easier. Once you've attached your combination of cogs, you can attach the little handle to one of them and turn them to watch them all spin. The stickers on the cogs create lovely, kaleidoscope-like patterns as they spin (hence the name!)

Great toy. My daughter is 2 and LOVES this set of gears. Previous reviewers said there was no handle but ours came with a little purple handle which fits neatly into any one of the cogs. We love the fact that the base plates can be fitted together to make 3D designs and although more challenging the cogs can work across a flat to upright surface. It's quite a versatile toy - a jigsaw of the base plates, then fine motor skills to get the little sprockets in their holes, you have to work out how to place the cogs so they all spin, then spinning fun! And also, once set up, which little toy can stay on the longest! The colours are lovely and change when spinning fast. The toy is made from an unusual soft almost malleable plastic, easily wipeable and cleaned but the shiney surface also makes it easy to glide the pieces together. I think we will be playing with this one for some time and I am considering getting another set to expand this one. Lots of fun. Highly recommended.

My little boy (only just 3) was given these by Father Christmas this year and has played with them every day since. He has learnt how to fit them together, and which ones will interlink nicely and which will jam the gears. He can play with them on his own and create a 2d pattern, however he really likes playing with an adult so we can make a 3d block with the base boards (which by the way fit together beautifully, despite their weird shape) and we fit the cogs together at an angle. The box has a convenient carry handle, which means whenever we go out to see someone my boy wants to take his cogs. Why not?! It's a fantastic toy.

I bought this for my son when he was 3, and he loved it, now three years later he still gets as much enjoyment out of it. Cogs and wheels are a marvel and I'm sure from an educational point of view it's brilliant, but he loves putting toys on top of the gears and spinning them round til they fall off, and making various patterns and shapes with the cogs. My only negative comment is that there is no handle to turn them once you've set them all up in a great long line across the carpet - you have to turn one of the cogs. So a small thing, but it would have been very welcome.

This is genius in it's simplicity. The pieces are robust and stand up to play from my 4 and 6 year old. My son has autism and I bought this as a means of keeping him occupied. - so far he has stayed on task for half an hour so a big thumbs up from me. The only downside is the nippers argue over it, in particular the handle (it might be a good idea to provide 2). So pleased that I'm about to research other products from Georello with a view to buying.

From an early age my son has had a love of clocks, this has progressed into a love of clocks, cogs and robots so when I saw the Georello Kaleidogears game I knew I had to buy it for him for christmasSo far this (and a robot he got) have been the two toys he has played with the most, he loves building the cog path and seeing which cogs turn with other cogsI am very happy with the product and I can see my son playing with it for years to come.

Gave this to our just turned 3 year old daughter and she could not fix together any part of this - and she is quite mature, dexterous and can concentrate! she is now 3.5 years old and over the months she has got to the point that she can attach all parts on her own and likes to play with it. There is something fun and hypnotising about watching the wheels spin.Interesting toy, thats different from the mainstream.

Amazing fun. Bright, visually stimulating, in different colours and sizes, very appealing to young ones. Can be made up in many different ways and so easy to use. Little ones will need help in placing them though, as each gear is slotted onto a small attachment with 4 small spokes. They in turn slot into holes on the base board. Quite tricky for little hands. A great introduction to the working of gears.

Best toy I could buy for my 3.5 year old - mammy & daddy love it too! He's wanted this for months since seeing it on a tv program, and Santa finally bought him it and he's played with it every day for nearly a week - which for him is amazing! He got some Christmas money too and said he wanted "more gears!" so we've ordered another box so we can get a bigger cog system going! brilliant toy.

Lovely chunky pieces great for young children to handle. Bought it for Christmas for my grandchildren and was definitely a hit over the holidays. With hind sight, I wish I'd got a larger box as both my grandchildren want to play together - hadn't thought the 2 year old would be interested but he loves it as much as the 5 year old AND their grandad!! May very well be buying another set ?

This is a really sturdy toy, lots of colour, easy for little hands to put together and it's fun for both kids (and parents)! My son first used a cog construction toy (similar to this one) at preschool and loved it so much that we brought him one for his birthday. It's not only fun to play with, but gets kids thinking, so they learn as they play...great for problem solving!

This set is lovely and very visually pleasing. You can also build up rather than lying down on the ground.I wish there was a few more pieces but I actually think it's easier to manage for a 3 year with less pieces. I'm very excited to see what my boys will do with these.I got it for a discounted price so I think the value for money is worthy of 5 stars.

My two and a half year old grandson loves this toy! I have to fit the gears into the 'waffle' base for him, which I find quite fiddly -bigger holes would make it easier. He loves making all the wheels go round, and manages this well. It's good that you can make different shapes with the base, as shown on box picture. This keeps the toy interesting.

One of our best buys for our 3 year old! Upon being given this, he spent a long time working everything out and how he could make different cogs turn in different ways. This has kept him entertained for hours and is played with often. Children of all ages enjoy this and I have even caught my husband playing with it when "putting it away".

I have had one of these at my home in the states for about seven years. My grandson who is eight years old still loves to use this gear set. So do I, the grandma. I sent it to my other grandchild in the UK. She loves it as well. She's three and had never seen it before. She is thrilled with it.
