As of now sadly the developers Team Dakota have shut down the servers completely, so no more online features, however, offline and game creation is still available. Project Spark isn't available on the Xbox live marketplace either, so buying the game disc is the only way you'll get to play it. Unfortunately I only recently got a Xbox One and did not know this was closing down until I was searching for videos about it on Youtube. Although I am unsure as to whether buying the physical disc copy will work now, so buy at your own risk. In my opinion Project Spark is excellent, its different and something fresh. It is a game creation tool that allows you to create anything from Shooters,Adventure to RPGs and RTS to 2D games. And there are tons are tutorial videos out there. Due to the servers and Project Spark discontinuing, you cannot share your creation with others, or play the community games. If you ever thought about wanting to design games but stumbled due to programming, the art, story etc then this is a step in the right direction. However, you can now only share your games with family and friends. If you just want to create games and are not bothered if the online features are available or not then read below, otherwise stop now.EDIT: One thing I will say, you won't be able to save your game using the save option buttons. When you want to save your creations, just enter test mode. You can still save your Props, Brains etc (I explain these further).Koding: Those of you worried about programming, Koding (It is spelt right) is the games alternative to programming. Simply put, the Koding is as simple or as complicated as you want. When you go into the 'Brain' of all objects, this is where your Kode is. For example, you have a When and Do sections, so WHEN 'A' is Pressed --- DO Jump, so basically if you press the A button your character will jump. It is all in simple graphical categories for you to find, you do not need to type the code in. Altough having a Keyboard helps speed up the process (Xbox users can use near enough any usb keyboard compatible with Windows and Microsoft products, wired or wireless) There is a tutorial that explains this well. Also there are pre-built in 'Brains' for you, so all the work is done for you. You can link between worlds with the Campaign feature so you can have various levels to your game. I would suggest you find the pre-built 'Brains', study them, modify them and once you figured the basics just dive in and go crazy. Youtube can teach you a lot with Koding. The Props: The Props are where all the objects, characters, sounds, effects, etc are. Yes you only have templates to work with, however, you can modify and create whatever you want, if you want a giant tree creature, you can use a basic human model. Searching for "Custom Characters" on Youtube will teach you more. You can also change the colour of every 'Prop', and each character has a SMALL variety of clothes, faces and hair. Each world has a object limit.Kinect Features: If you have a Kinect (which I don't) you can record your voice, and even record movements to give your characters 'Emotes'. I don't know how the Kinect features work so again Youtube can be your greatest friend with Project Spark.Sculpting, Painting and Biome Tools: Firstly, you can scuplt the land to however you want. Make mountains, caves, deserts whatever. Again you have Terrain limit, but its a pretty big limit. You can create huge worlds before the terrain even meets half its limit. Also, as a suggestion using the terrain tool can free up your object limit. For example, are you building a city, a castle? Instead of using cubes and shapes for buildings, sculpt the basics, paint it and then add the 'Props' for finer details. Paint is very simple, you have a selection of textures, and you can paint the terrain however you want. You can also edit the texture in Paint, so if you make an alien world that has a pink forest, you can make it pink. The Biome Tool is basically the Paint and Prop tool combined, and will build onto your terrain for you, altough be careful using Biome Tool as it will go crazy adding 'Props' all over, but you can go in and delete what you don't want after.Multiplayer, Community Games and Hub World: Before servers closed down, you could share your creations and Played/Downloaded/Edited (Editing other creations is called Remix in Project Spark) games others have made. You also had kits people made to help with your creation. Sadly these features no longer exist. I do not know how the multiplayers features will work now, obviously local co-op will still work, I am still learning about this feature so do not know fully. But features like multiplayer editing where you and family/friends can create worlds together I do not know how it'll work now.Like I have said before your game doesn't have to be complicated, it can as simple as you want or as complex as you want. Looking at videos of other creations could scare you into thinking 'How am I going to make something like that?' You don't have to make something like that, start simple and work your way up, your game doesn't have to have hundreds of stuff going on at once.EDIT: Although, I myself am not fussed over the loss of the online features. Do be aware that you will not receive any additional content or dlcs, you will just get the base game. Perhaps if you decide to try Project Spark on PC you could find the extra content but I don't know if you could. You may read Spark getting laggy due to servers going off, Spark even when it used to be online can lag, it does still work because I still use it (within the last 2 weeks). Spark had issues before it was offline, closing it and opening it again (you may have to do this a few times) if it really is having issues then try again another day. Spark has always been a bit buggy, it just has issues when you try to save it now (explained further up), but doesn't really affect much of Spark overall.

This is a game review. Other people seem to want to review this game based on its content packs, which is fine, but you have to understand that the base product is a free download on XBL and you must earn Spark credits via contributing to the community and creating things within the game online first. This item basically comes with the starter pack that you can buy with these credits and gives you a head start - like what any normal micro transaction should do. Alternatively, you can play and review other people's creations for free and earn the right to purchase items this way.So anyway. I want to make a very short adventure RPG with a few branching dialogue options. Can I do this? Well, given I have a programming background, yes, I believe can. However, there are no pre-baked AI templates (or 'brains') available to download this functionality for novices, so the barrier to do this is high. As with most programming, you need some measure of debugging to use with Project Spark's language, 'Kode' but a lot of the programming interface help is abbreviated or simply missing detail on how each option within the Kode wheel works. So to debug Kode for printing out computed values, you have to go hunt down a tutorial online that will show you how. Or, like me, go experiment trial and erroring until you get it to work. Please note that 'Kode' for 'brains' actually consist of 'pages' with visual icons, chosen from a menu wheel. Each option can be selected to reveal further, related options that should work in conjunction with the previous item you've added to the page.Needless to say that this game can get complex, and a lot of time and work is required to set up a basic scenario. For a basic dialogue brain, you'll need to create player and non-player character props, then1. add a brain to a NPC character prop2. create the dialogue text objects3. create the statements/clauses when they are invoked by events (button presses, entering a zone etc.)4. the actions triggered by those clauses (when page entered, say "x" then go to page X to do any other actions)5. create multiple pages for new dialogue branchesEventually, I managed to create a short intro to a story where you can either choose to help someone or not. This branching is irreversible, to favour replayability. Of course, this is an abbreviated description of what I did, but I basically managed to figure out the dialogue interaction by downloading other 'brains' people had created. That's the thing about Project Spark, you can basically deconstruct other people's efforts to see how to do stuff, copying and pasting as you like. And there are far less complex things to try out as a novice. As an introduction to coding and logic, I guess it's quite good. As an introduction to game design, I think it's excellent. There certainly isn't anything else on the Xbox like it.

Please dont take any notice of the 1 and 2 star ratings for this game, yes you can download the game for free from Xbox store but if you do that you dont get the add on packs thats come as a DLC with this disc copy, basicly you are buying this disc copy with DLC for the code alone which to purchase from the Xbox store will cost you aprox £55 plus for purchasing in game credits to buy the add on pack,Ive been playing/creating on Project Spark since the launch of the Beta for Xbox One,its has some great creative tools for making mini games and worlds, the only thing holding you back is your imagination, our son has just purchased this from Amazon,i thought it such a good deal that ive ordered my own copy, not for the game but just for the DLC as it offers such good value for money, even if you was to pat the original price at launch for this disc you couldnt have failed to save money, that said the creating of brain codes for each character/creation you want to make do something within your world/game takes some working out but there is a lengthy tutorial at the begining to get you started, then there is the countless youtubers out there posting their video tutorials (channel Mescad was a big help),so if your into Xbox and have a creative side you do worse than buy this game, and save a few quid in the proccess.

I bought this game from the shop and not Amazon but I thought I would write a review anyway to clear up all the 'It's free, don't buy it' stuff. First off yes, the game itself is free with gold, HOWEVER, this comes with the starter pack which is clearly stated on the box. The started pack is dlc which can be bought on Xbox Live for £32 separate. Basically if you get this you are getting a £32 dlc for £24.85 (at time of writing).Couple of other things, the starter pack is a code included in the case, its not on the disc. Also once installed you don't actually need the disc. This means you can buy the game, use the dlc and then sell the game to the stupidest game trade in shop possible which is what I did and got £15 back (there is also a 14 day gold code in the case, leave that there but write the code down, makes it look more believable)So that's about it, if you buy this you get dlc for cheaper and can sell the disc after to get it even cheaper, you DON'T need the disc to play it

This pack contains about £60 of downloadable content and 1 month of Project Spark Premium. Although the base game is free this pack gives you lots of extra content. The game creator is very powerful but you can use custom templates and AI's (called brains) to simplify things. My advice would be to try the game for free and then purchase this copy if you enjoy it. Also all the content can be downloaded for free with credits earned by playing the game but this will take a lot of time. This boxed edition is a great place to get started.

Fantastic piece of software. You can play through some pre-made levels and then make your own, either by using the excellent wizard or from scratch. The 'coding' takes a bit of getting used to and isn't as good as something like scratch or game maker, but for free this is amazing. There are loads of great community games to download, even if you're not into making your own. It's a pegi 12 but both my 9 year old son and 15 year old daughter love it. If you have an Xbox one, get this!

12.10.2014

I am not sure but i believe this pack contains a lot of content you have to buy separate as DLC. The digital download is only the very basic system ,the rest costs extra. This may actually work out as better value. I suggest doing the sums on the options you want.

23.10.2015

The games dlc are all free at the moment which makes the game seem like it has endless new fun and things to look from all the way from sharing community games to creating you own game from scratch, a must by to anyone who's a fan of games on the xbox one.

My son loves this. We downloaded the free version when we got our XBox One and my son wanted this disc with expansions for his 10th Birthday. He is over the moon with all the extras and he and his 14yr old brother are happily building levels now

29.12.2014

why would anyone pay for this game when its free for xbox one i didnt pay for it i got it free and alot of other people got it free aswell people need to check on the xbox onr store before buying games on here

9.1.2015

For the people who say this is free on Xbox ...It isn't, £31.99 is the price for this on Xbox, because this is the Starter Pack version, not the basic free version.Comes with a load of additional content.

4.2.2016

This game is now completely free to play and all dlc is free. This box just contains a code to get the base game and some items that used to cost money.Project Spark is great, just don't waste your money.

16.9.2015

Good pack for those wanting to play the creative mode in the game. This isnt the base game though, the base game is free. This pack just gives you objects and a good start with creating your own levels.

17.4.2016
