If you’re reading this review there is a strong chance you’ve come looking for some Kind of insight and guidance on what tension / strength to buy. I know I trawled many reviews on Amazon, many YouTube videos and other pages.What I realise is every person is different and expectation and needs differ to.What I bought : Blue / light tension / 5 pounds pressurePurpose : to help increase / improve grip strength for Bouldering / Rock ClimbingAbout me : so I’m a 41 year old man, 6ft 14 stone with average fitness and what I would say is average strength in my hands. I’ve been bouldering for 6 weeks and ride a bike daily to and from work. So up to recently,have been doing nothing particularly centred around my hand or grip strength - unless you consider the grip used on my bikes handle bars. I use a computer all day and console game regularly.When making the decision I was stuck between the choice of blue light tension and red medium tension. After much research I opted for blue on the basis that whilst it might be easier for me, repetition was going to be the key and I could work my way up - this was preferential to going in too heavy and struggling to compress the grip master, straining my hands to early on and becoming frustrated.I was glad I opted for the blue - it’s relatively easy to compress all the way in a single press, but does require some effort on continuous reps. When used in repetition you can feel the resistance and feel your hands building up, I’ve only used it for a short time but can tell that it will have benefits for climbing and building up grip strength - especially when using finger tips to grip. The individual finger grips are good also highlighting the difference in strength between them and being able to work them individually.Being a desk worker I have it at my desk and pick up during the day, it’s a fun distraction / desk toy also.Side note - if you are interested in building pure strength i.e prefer lower reps & heavier weights, you might be a little disappointed in the resistance on this model and might benefit from the the next model up - a weight lifting colleague found it disappointing. But as a starting point for high reps and for someone who doesn’t do weightlifting this was good for me!

I bought this in order to improve my finger strengh and independance for playing guitar. I had thought of buying one years ago, but my view was - if you want to improve your finger strength and dexterity for guitar, just play guitar, right?But I changed my mind, and decided to give this little device a go, on the grounds that I can use it when I'm NOT able to play guitar (like when I'm at work) and maybe using a device with some resistance might accelerate my finger strengh gains?This is a pleasingly well made unit, and the plastic parts seem to be of high-quality. I decided to go for the red "medium" excerciser, having read some comments here about more reps and lower tension being more beneficial for musicians.When the unit arrived,I was beginning to think I should have gone for the 5lb device instead! The tension initially felt quite strong, particularly on the little finger!Well does it work? in my opinion definitely yes! Having used this device for only about 15 mins a day most days for 3 weeks, I suddenly find that the spring tension feels a lot lower. Also it has transformed my guitar playing! Playing my 12 string acoustic guitar suddenly seems easier, and on my electric, hammers and pulls seem much more accurate and clearer! my speed has improved, and I recently found myself doing vibrato with my little finger, something I don't normally do!So yes, I think it works for Guitarists (and other musicians) and it's quality means that it is good value for the money!

I have a few of these, in different tensions, and they are great.Primarily, I got the light and the medium to improve my finger strength for playing piano, but my partner recently had an injury that required exercising her tendons to rehabilitate her hand, I also invested in the XX light and X light. Though too easy for anyone with "normal" strength in their hands, they prove to be challenging enough to rebuild strength for those who need to start at a lower resistance.The design is elegant, as each finger can be exercised individually as the springs are independent of each other, or you can just squeeze them all for a full hand workout.I found this particularly useful for strengthening my pinkie for playing guitar...as we use all the other fingers more frequently in our daily lives, our pinkies tend to not have much "grip".They sit comfortably in the hand, thanks to the contoured foam, and can be used in either hand by simply turning them around.One observation would be that they are not cheap, so you may be better finding one in a shop and working out your starting point before investing in the next one up from Amazon.If you need to develop finger strength and grip, or need a little booster to your rehab following an injury, these gizmos are a perfect choice.

The problem I always had with the traditional grip exerciser is that they don't really help with your weaker areas i.e. your ring and little finger - This does just that. If you also visit the official gripmaster website at prohands.net you will see various exercises that you can do. The reason I purchased this is because I work on a computer and therefore mouse all day, every day and felt this would help strengthen my hands, fingers and wrists.Also, with regards to the weight - which is something I had no idea which one to get - I would advise getting the Light or even Extra Light and doing a lot of repetitions. I have the Blue version (Light)and although it's reasonably easy for my main fingers it's very tricky for my ring and little finger and looking back I may have even opted for the Extra Light version - which possibly sounds a bit weedy but if you're not a builder or the World's Strongest Man then you may struggle with the 7lb and above versions.It's very addictive and I find myself playing with it when I'm sitting there watching the TV - So at least a tiny part of my body is getting some exercise when I'm being lazy with the rest!!

Well this has to be about one of the best devices out there to strengthen your individual fingers. While other grip strengthening devices, like the "Captains of Crush" squeezers, will most surely improve one's overall grip, there's always a chance that the stronger fingers are doing most of the work, leaving the weaker ones getting a less than perfect workout. Not so with the Gripmaster.I've been lifting weights for over 20 years and after trying this, I found several of my fingers weak, that is being unable to participate a lot when I tried to squeeze my Gripmaster. I got the red one, which is medium tension, and while overall its not TOO hard to do, there are a few fingers that just can't keep up!I think what I'll do is just use this one until all my fingers can do the exercise equally, and then move up to the next higher tension model.Looking for a good way to strengthen the individual fingers? Try it- you'll be surprised how much of a workout some of your fingers will get. Guitar players, people who type a lot, or anyone trying to rehab a hand will greatly benefit. Also suggest Treat Your Own Tennis Elbow for elbow tendonitis.

I am a software developer and I bought for when I have a spare few seconds while at my desk; also I play guitar so I wanted to increase the strength of my index finger so I could barr the whole 6 strings. My other goal was to be able to do pullups just with hooking my fingers around the bar. The last goal was to increase the strength and control of my pinkies.I can say assuredly that this thing works. I didn't even take it seriously, and in the first week was just messing about to see if I could press one of them down with my pinky (although I used all 4 fingers, but mainly looked at how my pinky was holding up). Within minutes of putting the thing down, suddenly picking light objects seemed easier.Next go at it minuts later seemed easier. A week later, my pinky was so much stronger, so I could just about use the black version.Btw, my technique is simply holding down for 10-20 second periods.If you're interested in finger strengths, increasing your pinch grip and do other sorts of strength training on your fingers, this will do the job nicely. Truly unique and fantastic product 5+

A year ago I started piano at age 68. (They say learning an instrument is good to keep the grey matter in shape.) Sadly my progress was a bit slow due to my frankly elderly hands. Half an hour a day was all I could comfortably do. So I spent time toying with the idea of some sort of exerciser, and settled on the Gripmaster.Well, that was a month ago, and I can honestly report in this short time my practice has more than doubled. I can now play for a solid hour without a single tweak or twinge. And then another session later in the day. Plus non musical things like opening bottles, turning taps, even picking up a kettle - all transformed. This exerciser has literally stopped and reversed the ageing process.(I'm currently on the red model,but will upgrade to the next strength if and when needed. I do five repetitions of five seconds each on the 11 exercises on the website - every second day or sometimes third. ) The company is very responsible in warning people not to overdo it.

I bought this product for strengthening my hand muscles for climbing.I originally bought the heavy tension as advised by another user. But I found it too difficult.After using the medium for a week I can now use the heavy using fingers and palm exercises. I tend to alternate use of heavy and medium in each hand (I usually exercise both hands together)My pinky cannot lower on either though!There are so many exercises available to download as PDF from the gripmaster website depending on why you are using your gripmaster. So the medium is very difficult to compress on some of the exercises - which is the whole point as you are trying to increase the strength in each finger and the various musclesin your palm and back of your hand.My finger and hand strength has increased vastly since using this product. I have big blocks of solid muscle I can tense and flex! It's quite scary...I highly recommend this product over cheap imitations.

This is my second gripmaster. My first was the red (medium, 7lb). In the photo I'm pressing for 90% for 10 seconds and you can see the difference in how hard it is to press the springs.I saw the 3 lb weight was reviewed by people recovering from injuries so i assumed I could handle the medium... I was wrong! Red 7 lb is fine for the first three fingers but too much to work on the smallest and ring finger. I recommend swallowing pride and starting with the 3 lb. Better to do many repetitions on low weight than struggle and risk injury.A note on size. My hands are childishly small (little finger is 5 cm) and the thing is about 7 cm high, so these feel large in my hands.Also I get less leverage as only my finger tips are pushing, while normal sized hands can get the middle of the fingers hooked over the top (a stronger grip). So, if you have smaller hands it's definitely a better idea to pick the lighter weight.

This is an excellent little gizmo for exercising your grip.I lost a finger and received tendon damage in a fight with a dog a few years ago, and have recently taken up fencing with the Sabre again, which needless to say is tricky without the prescribed number of digits on your sword-hand. I bought this item to improve my grip on my remaining fingers and it's been a great success. I began with the Red version here (7lbs) then moved on to Black (9lbs) and now I'm on the Grey (11lbs). I keep them on my desk at work and exercise my grip whilst I'm on the phone. The improvement in my grip strength has been enormous and I can maintain my grip on my Sabre even in the most vigorous blade-work.If you partake in a sport,or in any sort of activity, which requires firm and enduring grip, get yourself one of these, work consistently with it, and move up to the next grade when you are ready. It really works!

I think this is the best thing i ever bought... I use it on the bus, in bed.. I practically never put the thin down. Not only does it strengthen your finers wrist and hand, this little gadet is brilliant if you're stressing or just bored.I am a guitarist and just after a day of using this product i have noticed a significant improvement in my playing, not so much speed and certainly doesn't magically make me a guitar god...but its made playing acoustic guitar feel like i'm playing electric, if you get what i mean..From switching from my left hand to right, I suddenly realized the weakness of my left, after a couple of days of using this product you really begin to see and feel the effect and your hand strengthening,and the best part is you don't ever leaave the bloody thing alone :P.Very handy product indeed and I recommend for anyone who is a hands on person.

This is tha second one i've bought, i got tha lighter one for my mum and this one for me. If you're somepone who likes fiddly with something then this is it. It fits in tha hand and you move your fingers as if playing a trumpet, but each button is on a spring so theres resistance, I thought tha 31b one would be too easy but maybe i should have started with that and moved up to this one, i love it though, trying to use yoiur little finger is really hard and to begin with i could hardly move the button with it, but by practicing everyday, i started to be able to move tha button a bit further down, so its obviously getting stronger. I carry it with me, in my pocket, so if i'm waiting anywhere i can just use it,also when i'm watching telly, would defo recommend :)

Excellent (sturdy, lightweight) product. Perhaps the finger pads could be a little more comfortable...There are lots of different tensions offered for sale, and lots of very mixed reviews on which is best. My advice is to head to the manufacturer's website (prohands.net) and look at the various exercises they recommend, and see which is best for you and your purposes. Roughly: if you just want to improve your overall grip strength a little (e.g. for tennis), and don't especially care about the strength of individual fingers, heavy is probably fine; but if you want to improve the strength of each finger individually (e.g. for guitar), start out much lighter than you think you need to (for your weakest fingers)and work your way up from there.

Bought as a gift for my boyfriend. (His massages need improving :p )For anyone not sure about strength, i feel i should have got him medium.While he is not a climber or anything he has something between average to workman's hands.With i am happier with this one (especially when it comes to the little finger) and would rather sit with it over a long period of time.He on the other hand i guess would like more of a quicker work out with something that has more effect.I have thin artist/typist fingers and can imagine i would struggle with medium.And i use this when he's not looking to try and bring my little finger up to standard.Overall a good item that i would recommend.

Theres nuthin to really dislike, it says what it does on tha can so to speak. I got this light weight one for my mum as she's a pensioner. I was a bit worried it would be too easy for her, but its not, its suprising how weak our fingers actually are when put to tha test like this. She loves it, you can just sit watching telly while doing it,.You press each key as if playing a trumpet, not as easy as it sounds though as there is resistance in each button, some fingers are easier to do than others,You can even feel it in the wrist and arm so its very good for strengthening after an op, ill health or just old age. :) xxx
