I am providing an overall review of PES 2018, specifically relating to the gameplay on Super Star and Legend difficulties.**I believe that Legend is a new difficulty level in the PES franchise, I am not sure exactly what triggers it's availability but I gained access to it after a few initial victories when I began my Master League on Super Star difficulty level. It's a good addition to the game, as usually with PES, by the end of the year, most high-difficulty PES players in previous releases don't have any real challenge, so it's nice to have the option to increase the difficulty further if required.Overall, this feels like your standard PES game with its trademark gameplay, however it seems to have a much more solid and weighted feel to it in relation to ball contact, whilst still maintaining smooth and fast-paced player movement, which is a dynamic that makes dribbling, passing and shooting extremely satisfying in this years release. PES 2018 is definitely more challenging than it's predecessor, moving forward and creating opportunities on goal requires much more thought and time as the opposition defence seems to have significantly improved in terms of their AI positioning and decision-making. It feels far more rewarding to score a goal this time around due to the challenging nature of breaking down the opposition.A few other notable positive aspects of the game are mentioned below:+ Free kicks in the game are very satisfying, this coincides with the weighted and solid feel to ball contact that I mentioned before, you can feel the power of the ball when the shot is taken and adding curve is much more realistic than last years game.+ A good deal of the players in the game have been face-scanned or at least manually created in incredible detail. The graphics of these players are phenomenal and look photo-realistic.+ Individual player characteristics are prevalent in the game, each member of your team feels and acts in a unique manner due to PES vast array of skill/ability options. No player feels like a carbon copy of another from my experience so far.I have listed a few negative aspects to the game below:- Off-the-ball AI for your team could use serious improvement, when controlling a team of eleven players, it is essential that off-the-ball AI is on point and ready for you to take control. However, I find that non-controlled players can be frustratingly slow to react on higher difficulties and have a tendency to wander away from stray balls allowing opposition players to gain possession. It doesn't help that off-the-ball AI for the opposition teams on higher difficulties is near perfect, which at times is a big disadvantage.- The standing tackles in PES have never been the best, and there doesn't seem to have been any significant improvements or changes made from the last game unfortunately. On higher difficulties, opposition players simply shield the ball or slip away to easily when pressing and attempting a soft steal, meaning you often have to resort to the double-tap standing tackle, which is basically a studs-up kick. If this is not timed perfectly it often leads to a foul which can make trying to gain possession a frustrating experience, especially when up against high-rated opposition with top players.- On higher difficulties, opposition goalkeepers often pull off consistently miraculous saves throughout each and every game to the point where it feels slightly unrealistic. Scoring is definitely possible and frequent enough for this not to be a big issue, but it is worth mentioning as it can be slightly frustrating when goalkeepers are in regular superhuman form.Master League and Become a Legend are decent game modes, they have enough options to create a fulfilling, enjoyable and immersive experience, but for those looking to compare to the FIFA franchise modes of the same nature, FIFA simply has the advantage due to the detailed options available relating to the transfer market / finances etc. However, PES gameplay simply gives it the edge required to look past this.Overall, PES 2018 is a very enjoyable and satisfying football simulation. There will be periods of frustration as you would expect from any football game and definitely aspects of the game that require improvement, but the positives far outweigh the negatives. Overall - 4 stars,

Picked the special editions up, so I can have Usain Bolt and Maradonna and use them to skim suckers online. Adding superstar players like Usain Bolt is one of the best things Konami could have done ! MORE PLEASE in future DLC. Perhaps even fantasy figures like Batman or Darth Vader would be cool additions to use in your MyClub Team ?If I had to have one criticism ( small one ) is that the game NEEDS loot boxes and microtransactions for both online AND offline. Gamers LOVE these and I think they would be a great addition to the game as a whole and it's fun to see what surprised the loot boxes might throw up. Love it!What's so good then you might say ?On the pitch:* tight controls and great reactions. You can pull off so many skills. I once scored a goal where I did a series of rainbow flicks from my area to the other area and finished it with an overhead kick. The other team couldn't touch me! One of the most glorious goals ever scored in a game!* Quick reloading times at last! Last year, there was a bit of a delay when reloading the shotgun. Thankfully, this year, Konami have nailed it and you can pull off some sweet, sweet headshots, whilst still pulling of sick skills!* Introduced loads more celebrations. Nothing better than rubbing it in the face of your opponent by pulling of some sick goal celebrations like DABBING.* Option to buy a fleet of starships instead of just the one like last year. Plus you can colour it a different colour !Off the pitch:* Interactive menus* Can put pictures of your dog as the background* Backwards compatible with zx spectrum and c64* Can change menu button noises to dog barks* A written film review of Alien Covenant is included in the audio menu ( Spoilers: It suuuuucksssss )I think I can speak for everyone, when I say that most - if not ALL - gamers agree that PES 2018 is the best "On Rails" shooter of the last month and maybe the best game ever made by Konami in 2017. Don't patch it Konami, please leave it perfect as it is! It's great for exploits online where we can earn sweet, sweet MyClub points. Infact, ONLY concentrate on the online portion of the game from now on and just delete all the offline stuff as it just gets in the way of that sick online play! GO MERSEYSIDE BLUES !!!Final Thoughts:IT'S THE BEST PES SINCE PES 2008 ! And that's coming from a die hard FIFA Fanboy ! Buy this game or don't. I couldn't care less !

I have sat on the fence for the past 2 months over which to buy this year. Whether it would be Fifa or Pes. I have flicked between both games over the years. Last year I went with Fifa, this year after playing both demos and hearing the general feedback (the official fifa forums are full of negative threads) I took the leap and got pes.Definitely a good move. The game seems to flow better, the gameplay seems smoother and generally more enjoyable. The difficulties levels are challenging. Regular/Semi-pro on pes actually gives the com team more actual chances, they will actually try to score (Unlike fifa where they dawdle and dither about doing not very much).Licenses seem to be an issue people have,Option files are easy to install. Had one sorted and running in no time. Gone are the times on ps3 where it would be copy and paste every single item. Now it is select all, import and leave it to do its magic. With an option file sorted pes now looks the part.Graphics wise I was actually blown away. The likeness and realism of most the players, stadiums and even fans in the stadium shows that it is ahead of fifa in this aspect.I mainly play career mode and the master league in pes does well. I like the layout and ease of use while in masterleague. loading times are decent and sorting out transfers, scouting, youth team is fun. It is nice to not have a button lag or delay as experienced on fifa. The one drawback I see is just with the transfer market. Konami could improve on this by making the transfer budget and costs/fees a bit more realistic. Still a little too low. There may be views that the menu layout can be a little dated, but to me it works without any lagging so I cannot complain. The only main downside I can see is the commentary. Still a lot better then it was on the last pes i played (pes 13) but still a bit behind fifa. Nothing which is a deal breaker.Naturally I hear the argument on scripting. Regardless of whether you play fifa or pes, if you are playing on the highest difficulty then there will be scripting in one way or another.I would definitely recommend this years pes to anyone wanting to try it. Obviously it is known there is a learning curve involved in switching (20 odd games will do it) but it is worth it.

OK let's kick this off, not an avid reviewer but feel this edition earns one.Like someone else commented, I did own every FIFA (from 94-95) up until last year when I simply got bored of the game and lack of intuitive progress that was being made year on year - helped by PSN offering PES 17 for £7.99.So I took the plunge.. and was pleasantly surprised having batted off others saying PES is better than FIFA for some time based on my only experience of the series back in 2005? (When I genuinely wasn't impressed with PES!) Goes to show.. eh!?Side loading kits, names etc was easy via USB.. no problems there - away I went. Thoroughly enjoyed every game, much more fluidity to the gameplay, animations were better and gameplay, goal scoring etc felt impressive so all in all I pre-ordered 18 with great expectations and...It has delivered..! Exceeded my expectations actually. I have found this one to be even more fluid, players like Neymar, Griezmann etc connect with the ball and weave in and out much more lifelike than before which makes gameplay satisfying. Obviously not all about 'hogging' so other aspects of the game were explored, 1-2's, defending, tracking, lay offs, through balls.. all very satisfying and enjoyable to play.To add, I tried the FIFA 18 demo to see if I was missing anything.. and I lasted half a demo game before deleting it. Nothing has evolved in the last year, or years for that matter! If anything it has slowed down even more, and became even more frustrating and I'm all for tactical play but FIFA really needs to address the direction it's going in. Obviously eye candy will appeal to most; not wanting to go to the effort of side loading and I am the first advocate for real stadia etc but not at the expense (any more) of gameplay and actually satisfaction of winning a tournament/being an underdog and beating a bigger team.Worth noting I am a career man!

My first Pes on Xbox after switching from PS4 and was sorry to loose the ability to import kits however this has brought back the feel of the good old days of changing names, kits, stadium names etc which I actually enjoy as it makes the game your own. I don't think it would be too hard for them to allow the ability to upload a badge to go on the kit as you can upload other items and if you could use the OneDrive feature to upload that would surely prompt more users to its service?Anyway editing aside the gameplay feels smooth and the lighting has finally been tweaked to add to the realism, this helps the clashing of kits which made it hard to play previously.I have never really got into the myclub experience and tend to stick to the offline mode of Master League. This for me is where Pes is at its strongest and your never gonna get upset about the colour of balls "silver ball", "Black ball" etc. Just enjoy seeing cut shots of your players enjoying the highs of win streaks or the upset of bad form. Little things like playing a testimonial match for retiring players, choosing your favourite player of the year, allowing classic players to join current squads, all make Pes what it is.I've been playing Fifa 18 upto a few weeks ago and was really enjoying it, now I've switched to Pes 18 the lack of kits etc really doesn't bother me, I'm glad its different but just wish they would alter/add a few things:--Manual replay cams, why don't they come far off the ground like back in 2013?-At least the ability to add club emblems for Xbox-Managers, whilst you can create the look, they don't get shown within the game so they are pointless, more cut scenes involving these would be good.-more variety of shots by adding more curl, most shots are straight, even precision shots-more fouls by AI-Free kicks like in Pes 2-3 - Van Hooijdonk use to put them away!

Been playing for a while, switched back to fifa to play with mates, got real bored, its not bad but it gets boring and samey..back on pes and cant believe how good it is...Funnily playing CPU is often more fun than playing real people which it shouldn't be haha great programming by KONAMI, playing cpu on FIFA is a complete bore/chore most often. They really need to investigate what Konami are doing. Shocking that the bigger company cant get that right. Anyway online or offline its just great fun. Myclub is a decent mode some don't like that you cant really chose which players to sign but on other hand means not everyone has the same teams like in FUT and you can mix players from different leagues which gives more variety as well compared to the typical BPL,seria A gold teams you play every game. Master League is fun enough. Obviously better and ideal to download correct kit and team data from online, doesn't take long so not an issue for me,...Overall though its the gameplay that keeps me hooked. Not since about pes4/5 have I been able to play 3 or 4 matches in a row without getting bored...However this pes I'm playing hours on end and cant put it off. The games especially in my master league all feel like big champions league games, such fun and intensity...The gameplay is realistic yet fun. Wont go into details, its football, and this plays like football should but even a 0-0 can be an exciting game, like every game is a thriller no borefests...enjoy...well done Konami

Having been someone who buys both pro evo an fifa, ive gotta say, this will be the first year I do not buy fifa. I am someone who enjoys playing online co op with mates, which previously has not been great with pro evo because of the servers etc and difficulties just finding a match. Well that has all been solved this time around. Last night I was playing both 2v2 and 3v3, which was fantastic, no lag, played smooth, and as a bonus for me, we finally have divisions when playing co op... Gameplay is fantastic, super smooth, passing, shooting looks great, animation is fantastic. Every pass, every shot, the way players move with the ball on and off is great. Dribbling is also way improved, can run with the ball at speed, can even meg players which is cool to do. Ball physics too look top notch and are better than ever. I can never understand how people will say fifa is the more realistic game. Could easily gone on and do the comparison to fifa, but there is no point, all I will say is that I believe this is the best football game to date, yes the menus are still poor and the commentary, but that's hardly a major thing, I could go on for longer here, but for anyone that has not even tried pro evo,,if you are a true football fan, you really need to try this. Will be doing the simple upload of the kits too, which is very straight forward, for anyone who has not done it previously.

The FIFA vs pes debate has been done to death so I won't bore you with gameplay and graphics ,Instead let me compare them to your high school girlfriend,FIFA is the girl with the designer clothes she is in top set for maths and never has a hair out of place, she hangs around with the popular kids and never puts a foot wrong, but she's never taking you to the bike sheds , in fact when you pluck up the courage to speak to her you realise up close you have been dazzled by her nice shampoo and her well spoken accent, she's about as much fun as dating an accountant in April,Pes on the other hand this year is like the chubby girl who you always had a laugh with but for safety purposes put in the friend zone, but this year your rebelling and don't care what the other kids think, yep pes is already round the back of the bike sheds and she's holding a bottle of vodka and a box of fireworksSo what she has the voice of Jim Belglin and that she has a small moustache , she is fun, I'm talking fun like the old days when roberto c used to smash in goals from left back,So it's simple either marry an accountant or go and have the most fun possible on a football game this yearAnd yeh you have to purchase an option file but it's a fiver and let's face it you have a £700 smart phone in your hand and Amazon prime so you can afford it

You’ll always hear the same arguements made year after year when the latest football games land. Fifa vs Pes... lots of fancy marketing buzz words and paid reviews but chances are, you likely won’t be swayed from what you love anyway. Despite a good few years out in the wilderness when fifa was by far the better option, for me it’s always pes.For the last few years, it’s definitely been the better game on the pitch - where it counts. You can go on about presentation, commentary and licenses until Jim Beglin is blue in the face but the fact is - pro evo plays a more realistic, challenging and at the end of the day fun game of footy.Whatever minuscule tweaks have been made this year have once again pushed things in a good direction and the game continues to outshine it’s rival. The ability to add in all of those precious kits and team names via the edit menu removes one of the biggest gripes of the game (although you can no longer share play with an option file - bugging). Master League is still, for my money, the best long term football experience you can have on a console. So in short; yes it has most of the same annoyances that it’s always had but ultimately, you want a football game to be good at doing that. And pro evo always does.

I have played both FIFA and PES for many years. However one thing is very clear with both of these games FUT and PES myClub are super popular options but only on PES myClub can you realistically get decent players like Messi, Ronaldo, Griezman to name a few very early on and very easily you don't have to play the game day and night, also on PES in myClub online competition you get very valuable reward and can quickly build up a team full of star, this game is much more rewarding and fair without having to depend on an online auction system. In FUT for many players they will never be able to have Ronaldo or Messi because they are so rare and expensive, PES is amazing from that prospective. Now in terms of the actual game play both FIFA 18 and PES 18 are amazing they both have their strengths and weaknesses and regardless of which camp you choose to be in just appreciate it and you will love it. Over all reward, gameplay and graphics I would have to say PES 18 is much better value. I am getting FIFA on my switch because my wife is always on the telly so now I can play in portable form, which PES came out on switch it would be such an amazing game.

This is the first time as a lifelong FIFA fan I have come over to PES I guess the only things I think personally that could be improved is more leagues i.e. league two league one and championship compared to be a pro player career in FIFA is has a lot of catching up to do also it's very strange having mister Dury doing the commentary I guess it's because I'm so used to Martin Tyler and Alan Smith but to be totally honest apart from lack of leagues the be a Legend game mode I think PES if I sort the leagues and the Bear Legend mode out I think PES beats FIFA any day and as I said I'm a die-hard FIFA fan I've been converted with this game I will be buying PES 20 when it comes out in September Iwill not be buying FIFA this game wins hamdown I totally recommend it 1000% now I have experienced PES I will never buy FIFA again I guess the most annoying thing is there's no German leagues no Bundesliga Amazon German it's a bit disappointing to say the least

Managed to bag a copy of this a day early and couldn't play online so can't comment on the online play right now.Over the last few years a have been a FIFA fan... that was until now. I wasted so much money buying FIFA points (literally hundreds). The game actually stressed me out with its toilet server connections and "scripted" gameplay.I played on PS4 and XBOX One. This year I've decided to switch to PES 2018 on the PS4 and so far, so good.I played the beta and I actually think it doesn't do the full game justice- it looks good and is fun to play. It's taking a bit of getting used to as some controls aren't what I'm used to but it's a lot of fun learning.I refuse to give my hard earned money to EA anymore. If you want a fun game that looks great, give this a go. I for one, am pleasantly surprised how good it is!!

A noticeable improvement to pes 2017 which was the best football game I have played since pes 2005. The animations in this game are amazing and make it look realistic. Not much else has changed apart from the gameplay but I would say that that is the only thing that should matter.Obviously the game isn't perfect. It has its 'rubber banding' moments like fifa does and players use the outside of their boot a bit too much but the gameplay males up for that. Having played both pes 2018 and fifa 2018 demos, I would easily recommend this game over fifa 2018. Fifa may have a more polished look and more fleshed out career modes but what is the point of that if the core gameplay sucks. Also it took me about an hour or so to download and import licenses for pes so overall pes 2018 is easily better than fifa 2018.

PES 2018 remains king over Fifa by miles, it may not be perfect and has the usual licencing / presentation problems, suicidal commentary, infuriating blatant cheating by the computer along with dubious refereeing decisions, inconsistent goalkeepers and sometimes dodgy player switching but despite all this it still simply plays a cracking and very addictive game of football, far more realistic than Fifa no 6-5 games here even 15-20 minute matches often finish 1-0, 2-1 or 1-1.Graphically the game is fine and I only play Master League really which has always been great and still is the main reason I buy PES every year and will continue to do so, not really bothered about all this My Club /FUT stuff it's all about Master League for me and I can't stop playing it... Absolutely marvellous.

Always been a fifa fan since i had ps3 and recently have played both fifa 18 demo and pes, fifa has hardly changed and seems all EA have done is stick squad updates in and change the kits to 17/18 season haha. What i enjoy most about pes is that you can customise literally anything on edit mode to your liking which is a bonus if you want to import boots, kits and all that etc. gameplay is a lot more realistic than the fifa 18 demo and the graphics outshines fifa which no one has commented on these reviews about, obviously some none licensed teams puts people off but you can import leagues and teams and everything via option file on USB so i think in general if all football gaming fans knew about this they’d give pes a try.Up the PES oi oi
