I bought this headlamp based upon the reviews and the specs. I wanted a light that provided good workspace illumination as well as long range spotting capability. I have a couple of Peltz lamps and have been satisfied with their performance but wanted more long distance ability. The Apex is great for what I need. It provides two levels of ambient sort of workspace light plus two levels of extremely bright spot capability. I use this light as my aux light for night biking but it actually is better than the bike mounted light. It is a little heavy due to the batteries on the headband but i don't find this to be uncomfortable when wearing a hat or helmet.I also use the light for boating and fishing and find the low illumination perfect for tying hooks, etc and the spot capability is great for watching baits and night docking. i like this light a lot and would recommend it to anyone who wants a high performance light at a competitive price.

Bought this for hunting as I was getting tired of losing my trail in unknown woods in the early, early morning with my weak headlamps. Super bright and holds the max brightness for as long as your battery lasts. At the brightest setting it lights up the whole woods. Even at its weakest setting the lamp is still brighter than most headlamps sold for hunting. This is both a pro and a con. Most of the time I can get away with just the low setting unless I get really turned around, however, I wish it could go to an even lower setting to be more discrete in the woods. A red LED would be ideal. It also throws the light wider than most LED lights I have, which tend to have a very narrow beam.Uses CR123 batteries, which are expensive but I've only had to replace them about every two years and they last being out in the Wisconsin winters.

I had the original apex with the 4 aa batteries and it broke on my bag by being mishandled (Cable got pulled out and the plastic cracked) when a buddy grabbed my bag to toss it into the truck. It was clipped off to the outside by a carabiner.I can't complain it was bought in 2009 or so and was almost 10 yrs old. I got my money's worth out of it.A lot of the newer models are compete junk yes that goes for Black Diamond, the prongs for the batteries are constantly bending and getting loose or the contacts just break off (3 in a month span) I use mine twice a day for an hr or two at a time for hikes with the dog. Complete rubbish they are.Get Princeton tec or a surefire where you will get useable like and stay clear of reactive headlamps.

I got the version with the red LEDs for night hikes, but also ended up purchasing an all white light model. The weight is noticeable but not in a bad way. I feel it as a reminder that I am invincible against the forces of darkness. In all seriousness, I don't even wear the top strap. I use this on my night hikes and night paddles (kayak). I wouldn't carry this as an EDC (everyday carry) as the batteries aren't your typical AA/AAA, but I'm always giddy and excited for when I do treat myself to its luscious and vibrant light.I find the light diffused enough for close visibility without hot spots. Another great product by PT !

used it at night while hiking/camping. the battery is much lighter weight than the alternative (the "non-pro" lamp takes a bunch of AA or AAA batteries) - and this one is CR123 (either one or two), and that makes it lighter. it was nice to have the middle strap at the top which is adjustable, so the whole thing won't slide down. it did not malfunction at 16,000-19,000 feet in sub-zero temperature, while being used for about 5-6 hours continuously. my other uses of it were in much more favorable conditions and for shorter time durations. i did not use this product during a rain (mostly because i had no need).

The princeton head light is everything you need in your pack to go full circle lighter. This little light takes the place of the two lights I use while bow hunting. Usually carried a head light type for getting to my stand and another light for if needed to track deer that was shot leaving a blood trail. Now my chessi retriever which is a blood dog has it a little easier when called to help find a shot deer for friends that call. This light is brighter than my lensor hand light. I peronaly have come to the conclusion that a real bright light works the best for tracking blood trails. Way to go Princeton

I do a lot of trail running and needed something when it starting getting dark. I was looking at other products but I liked the fact this was 200 lumen. I tell you that i could see everything in my path and then some. Even at 100 lumen it was bright. 200 lumen does drain the battery quickly (about 2 hours) so use it sparingly. As far as stability it was great. trail running is an adventure during the day but at night it gets down right scary at times so this helped enormously. Not much shaking, the light stayed pretty steady and I had no problems. Love this product. great job Princeton!!!!

This Princeton Tec Apex Pro 200 Lumen Headlamp is just awesome! It's so well made and feature rich, plus it's very comfortable to wear. I love the fact it uses CR-123 batteries (nice small profile), as does my Streamlight Tac-Light and Steripen Water Purifier. The different light settings are all just right and have excellent output symmetry, even on 'wide'. Princeton totally nailed it with this unit! If you're just starting to check these out or maybe on the fence about which Headlamp to buy, look no further. THIS IS THE ONE YOU WANT -- Trust me :) !!!

Very happy with how bright and the lightness of the headlamp. My running friends say then can turn their lights off when I run with them. Also, it doesn't bounce around when running. Only suggestion is don't expect the batteries to last very long on high beam. but low beam is bright enough. I only use High beam when riding bicycle down a hill at night and need to see far ahead. I suggest using the:http://www.amazon.com/Kits-RCR123A-LiFePO4-Rechargeable-Batteries/dp/B001EYHO9Gbatteries. cheap and easy to charge.

I use this headlamp as a backup light source for caving and for this it works okay. I am not a huge fan of the logic that is used for activating the various settings, but it works. In the environment that I subject them to they last for about 6 months before either the plastic cracks and water gets in or the buttons stop working. What this means to people that use them in a more forgiving environment is that they should last quite a long time. I will also add that Princeton Tec does have good customer support.

I use this headlamp for work around the house, camping and responsible caving. Its VERY bright and unless you are doing hard core activities is a great and affordable option. The brightness settings are great when you just need to light a path. Only possible issue is that it takes CR32 (?) batteries, like I used to use in my old film camera. These are pricey and not rechargeable. Cant yet tell you how long these batteries will last me, but I have used the set they came with for roughly 8hrs with zero problems.

I purchased this to allow me to run in the dark. The light is comfortable and light weight. I previously had a 70 lumens light and purchased this one as it was too hard to run on trails and see in the dark with the old light. This light is much brighter and makes running in the dark easy and sure footed.I would not recommend if you are planning to bike in the dark as it is not quite bright enough for the speed of a bike, but perfect for running.

This headlamp is very comfortable and not heavy at all. You forget it is even on top of your head. Buy a couple sets of rechargeable batteries and you are set for this thing. One thing i wish is that all 5 lights could turn on at the same time, but it is very bright with the 200 lumen main lamp without the others on. Did races in the middle of the night with this and it worked great going quickly through rough terrain.

great product and its to specifications. havent got to test it waterproofing capabilities to the full extent and i will update when i do. the wire from the battery pack to the light is a little bulky but its strong. i like the multiple intensity settings. the battery pack takes patients to open if you tighten the screw too much and be careful because the plastic seems to ware down if you do over tighten.

Great Light! Easy to adjust head straps. Very easy to set lighting options (even with gloves on). Bright, brighter, and brilliant bright are the three main options (did I mention it is really bright). Light head rotates the angle downward for better light focus. Takes CR123 batteries (2). Battery container is built sturdy. Love the color if you're not into being flashy, but prefer function.
