This is more of a demonstration of the Polar Ice Machine in action. It's a great machine, fast and efficient. It was quite a bit bigger and heavier than I was anticipating so consideration is needed when deciding where to locate it. Three sizes of ice cube can be made. I tend to start it off on the smallest cube size as this cycle give ice in the shortest time. After a couple of cycles on small (around 6 to 10 mins approx per cycle after the short start-up routine) I switch it the large size. The instructions recommend you discard the first cycle but I've found it is perfectly acceptable and I use it in drinks etc as normal. If you are not desperate for ice immediately then you can discard the first batch of cubes. As the machine initially works to reduce the temperature of the water tank you can discard the first batch into the water tank to assist with chilling if you prefer. The machine has two indicating lights. One for water out and the other for ice basket full.If you are wondering how it makes the ice this is achieved by filling a small water bath/tray with water from the main tank, ten metal rods hang down into the water tray and its these that ice cubes form around. Finally the water tray empties and the ice cubes are suspended around the rods. The rods heat up and the ice cubes drop in the the collection area where a paddle pushes them into the main ice basket (suspended over the water tank). Drips from the ice cubes drop in to main tank to be used again. The 'cubes' are dome shaped like a thimble and contain a vertical hollow where the metal rod was located. Ten cubes are made per batch. Ice can be stored in the basket for quite a long time, it melts slowly but with the lid down you can easily keep it for 4+ hours as the lid and machine are insulated. For example, I've gone to bed and forgotten to discard the left over ice and there's been a few ice cubes left in the morning when I get up.The machine is relatively quiet, efficient and trouble free. I'm very impressed - if you need ice then definitely consider this machine - it's vastly superior compared to the alternative: struggling with ice cube trays or ice cube bags. You can always store the ice if you wish in the freezer for use at a later date.I highly recommend it.

I ordered this late afternoon on the 7th and it arrived on the morning of the 9th (today). Very quick and well before the estimated delivery date. Perfectly packaged and as described.I bought this to use on our boat during the summer months. It will sit quite comfortably on the side without over hanging the edge which is great.I filled it up, plugged it in and am right now just letting it go through its ice making cycle to 'run it through'.Firstly the noise: Yes you can hear it but it's perhaps akin to a portable aircon unit and tbh, no problem at all. After the first few minutes, you get used to it and it just becomes background noise. If I were to plug it in, in the saloon whilst I was in the cockpit,I would barely hear it, if at all.On initial start up, it took 15-20 minutes to 'warm up' and produce the first batch which is understandable. Thereafter, it took exactly 12 minutes to produce ice on the 'small' and 'medium' settings and 15 minutes for the 'large'. There's not much difference in the sizes tbh so I will just use the 'small' setting to save time. The manual states between 6 and 12 minutes depending on size but as you can see, 12 minutes was the least time. Whether the machine will get faster once it's been through its first use...time will tell but tbh, it's really no biggy... I think this is a fantastic little machine for the money! It's well built, doesn't look hideous, isn't unreasonably noisy and if you have guests over for drinks...just turn it on an hour before they arrive and you'll have a basket full of ice to get started with, then just leave it going in the background and I would be very surprised if you ran out at all.Just check the water level occasionally to make sure it hasn't run out and it'll be all good.Highly recommend both the product and the seller. Good job and a good price.

Realistic expectations & understand how it works. It takes approx. 10 minutes per batch for 10x medium cubes. Making ice cubes in trays filled water & in freezer lower/chills the water to make ice. The ice maker fills water in the upper tray/section around the element with 10x freezing prongs. The water touching the prongs is chilled making ice. Chilling the opposite way to a freezer which lowers outer surface inwards. When the required size is made, the element/prongs moves & drops them into the basket, then returns to make another batch. NOTE: Additional batches takes slightly less time, as the water temp. is lower. Large size takes longest. Once ice falls in the basket, they start to melt.Keep lid closed to keep internal area cool, as there's no chilling/freezing in operation. Ice made are not cubes but a bullet shape with hollow centre. Unlike 'Cubes' solid frozen all the way thru, the bullets have less volume (dense) & greater air contact surface area which makes them melt faster. Putting them into freezer keeps them frozen like cubes at SAME temp, & won't make any difference to them melt quicker. You can help speed up the ice making process by using chilled water or add a pre-frozen block of ice to help lower the water temp. The machine keeps making ice until the basket is full or tank is empty. I normally empty the basket into the freezer after a few batches to stop them melting. If left in the basket, the ice cubes melt slowly back into the water tank because the internal chamber is not chilled. In American Fridge/Freezers the ice cube remain frozen inside the freezer & professional ice makers chill the ice box compartment to keep them frozen. Hope this does not offend anyone. It is basic science!

I purchased this as one of a few gifts for my husbands 60th birthday for his new man cave back in September, it was a while before we had the space to try it as the room wasn't finished until Christmas but it was worth the wait! He loves it!! It works perfectly up to now and it was so nice to be able to offer our house guests instant ice this Christmas without lugging home ready frozen cubes which took up valuable freezer space. I took a while to chose this machine from the myriad on offer, despite some poor reviews posted by others who had clearly had unfortunate experiences. All I can say is so far so good and I feel it pays to take your time choosing. It was the video that convinced me along with the fact the company base is in the U.K. So that if I needed assistance it would hopefully be easier to get it. If you do buy don't forget, treat it like a mini fridge, that means leave it in position/its final resting place unused for at least 24 hours BEFORE switching it on! We also sat it on a thickly folded clean old dust sheet when first switching on in case there were any leaks, just to be on the safe side. The machine is quite large too so make sure there is enough room around it for airflow and access all around it.

My wife suddenly got a massive craving for ice, which turned out to be a text-book scenario for a low red cell count (Anemia). Not having a fridge/Freezer with built in ice maker, I looked on Amazon for a suitable unit and after reading the reviews, bought this one.It does everything it supposed to do and left on and topped up will definately supply a constant supply of conical ice cubes (rather a contradiction in terms but couldn't think of another word for cube that was round!) It is so efficient that a small to medium pub or wine bar would be well supplied. One thing that is not mentioned anywhere in the blub for the machine, is that you can make flavoured ice lumps and the best thing to do is buy squashes.Make up the solution to taste in a jug and pour in the resevoir. After making the flavoured ice, fill up with clean water and make more ice lumps until they are regular water ice again. After use and certainly if you won't be using it for a while, get as much of the water out via the drain tube and leave the lid open until everything is completely dry.In Summary: Good price for such an efficient, professional machine. Some noise in operation and also very heavy.

I've wanted a ice maker for years. Originally when we were getting our kitchen re-done we thought we'd go for an American fridge freezer (really just for the ice-maker) but in the end we didn't. I'm delighted with this purchase. It is great to have ice on demand without having to hack the cubes apart from those bags of ice you get for the freezer - plus we have more room in our freezer now to store food as opposed to ice! The machine itself looks good and makes about the same amount of noise as a regular fridge-freezer when switched on. You can opt to only have the machine on for as long as you need to - and the manufacturer recommends changing the water in the machine if not used for 24 hours. It will be so much easier now for barbecues or just to make a range of iced drinks at any time (cocktails included!). No plumbing required and the service I received from Nisbets was fantastic - I ordered late in the afternoon and paid a bit extra for delivery before noon - it arrived well in time the following day when I had expected it to arrive the day after due to ordering it late on in the afternoon.

This product is simple, no plumbing required, just an electrical socket, a jug and access to water. We keep ours in the cellar and mainly use it for ice buckets and ice for cooling bottles. It makes a lot of ice and is easy to use, the only things to point out are:1. It makes the bullet shaped ice, which isn't as attractive in a G&T as a proper cube.2. While frozen, the cubes are not deep frozen, like ice from your freezer, so they don't last quite as long.3. Fast freezing leads to cloudy ice, only a problem if you are after good looking ice in your drink. For champagne ice buckets or beer buckets, this ice is fine and for parties we usually run the machine and hold the output in the deep freeze until the big day. This helps negate 2 above.Greta machine, does what it says and we use ours quite a bit during the summer (now into its 4th summer).

I bought the Ice making Machine before the beginning of Summer and I have a small family, however, that said, it is always being used. If you have kids who love squash with ice,or like me, you like ice with your whiskey, or even to fill your pint glass with ice, prior to pouring a magners into it, this is without doubt the product that you need, whether it be in your kitchen or in your dining room or wherever. Ours is in our dining room and looks really cool too. From time of putting water into the machine to receiving the first batch of ice, takes around 5 or 6 minutes and it is as relentless as you want it to be. It has been used for drinks, during a Party and wasn't found wanting whatsoever.Get one, you won't regret it!!!!!!

I have had this machine for 8 months now. I think it is excellent. I disagree with the comments that it is slow and noisy. Yes when the cubes are being released into the collection basket it can be quite startling at first( cabinet falling off wall?) You soon get used to this. It takes about 12 mins to make first batch of 12 large ice cubes. The cubes stay good for about 3 hours if not used and then they will slowly melt but of course as they do so the machine will make new ones to fill up the basket again. I would recommend giving it a thorough clean once a week even if you use it every day like I do. I loaned it last week to a friend who was having a party. What a job getting it back!

13.9.2019

So. It works, it produces ice automatically at the stated rate. However, it's really only for use at a party while people are consuming, or for novelty value. Its actually very very labour intensive, to make a few pounds of ice, you have to constantly nurse-maid the thing for like 10 hours. Utterly useless in that respect as you have to keep putting small batches of ice-cubes in the freezer every 5-10 minutes.Don't bother. Just buy 5-10 regular plastic ice-trays, freeze those, bang out those cubes in 5 minutes and your'e done, or even just buy ice from the supermarket. You could buy a mountain of ice for this money.

7.6.2016

This is a handy item to have around the house. It only makes 10 cubes at a time, which takes approx 12 minutes so a bag full can take several hours to make. The machine holds 4 pints of water in the tank and so it can run for approx 3-4 hours before refilling. The machine makes 3 different size cubes. Once you have finished using the ice makes you simply drain off any water left in the tank by removing a small bung at the rear. This is a domestic appliance therefore don't expect it to perform as fast as a commercial ice maker. If you need plenty of ice be sure to prepare them the day before and store in the freezer.

9.10.2019

After 6-1/2 years I've just ordered my second Polar ice machine. The first has given up but I think it's only the water pump. I cleaned it every month...slightly soapy water and a toothbrush is useful. I rinsed and sterilised it as well (Milton). Over the time I found that run the cold tap to give it a head start. Take the basket out and leave it to re-circulate for an hour to get really cool. It can't cope in the high summer sun. If I purchased 2 x 2kg bags of ice a week at £1 = £104 per year = £676 cost minus my elec bill. I'm sure I'm in front by a long way. I just hope the new one lives up to my expectations!

8.2.2017

On my third or maybe fourth ice maker, cannot live without one. They all seem to die after about 12 months, but this one seems robust, got it at a good price and is the simple kind i.e. open top, scoop out cubes, better and simpler than the dispenser model I had previously, reputable name and available at discount.Usual noises when freezing but ok in kitchen, simple controls, no start stop timers, so manual on, off and size but thats what is needed. No alarm when water empty but easy to check, sometimes less features are better !Slight taste in cubes for first few goes but fine now

Really happy with this Ice Maker. Makes a batch of ice in about 10-15 mins. If you are entertaining it can easily keep up with demand although we tend to make up several batches in advance and keep in the freezer. Very easy to use and was exactly what we were looking for as previously we had been buying bags of ice from the supermarket. Fits neatly on the work surface in our pantry so out of the way but would not look out of place on a kitchen work top. Highly recommend this after doing much research on different models available on the market.

Nice machine. Costs about 35p per week to leave on continuously, if using a lot of ice. Turn it off if you go away for a very long time. Here's how it works...1) Makes ice until it breaks the beam, or the water runs out.2) The ice slowly melts (unrefrigerated but insulated storage).3) When the beam is un-broken more ice is made.4) Repeats. If your'e anything like me you'll love having loads of ice on tap. Quick iced coffees, iced water, etc. However, next time I upgrade my fridge I'll go for one with a built-in ice-maker.
