I always wanted a sand pit when I was young so when my nephew reached the grand old age of 1 we thought what would be better for Easter, a horrible chocolate egg or a sand pit, as you can guess we went for the sand pit.First up, the wood is of good quality and although not perfectly smooth wasn't rough sawn timber. It is really simple to assemble only needing to be slotted together to form the sides and a couple of screws for each of the 2 seats. Once assembled it's quite sturdy, simply choose a place in the garden, put down the ground sheet that's supplied, place the assembled sand pit on top and fill with play sand (unfortunately not supplied). In terms of sand we feel it needs about 8x 2.5KG bags. When not in use it comes with a handy cover which features elastic at the corners for a snug fit but we also place a couple of blocks (like the ones you use on your drive) which keeps the cover secure in high winds. Before letting my nephew lose I first sanded and painted the sand pit (see my uploaded photo) which not only protects the wood but makes it look a lot nicer in the garden. All in all we're very happy with the sand pit as is my nephew, now we've just got to teach him to build sand castles and not keep knocking them down.

I was looking for a wooden sandbox for my 2 and a half year old and came across this one. It is a much cheaper version than the ones I've seen but I found it works just as well. It is very easy to put together (just slots into place). All you need to remember is to find a really flat surface or the slats will 'float'. Once the sand is in, it is impossible to shift to another location, so make sure you decide before you pour in the sand. We used 10 bags of 15kg sand for it, so it's a very good size sandbox. The only thing with it is that the cover doesn't fit properly. 3 corners will slide under it but when you try to stretch the cover over the 4th corner, nothing will budge.I should have taken the other reviews more seriously instead of thinking 'it's probably a one off that theirs didn't fit'... I wrote an email to the manufacturer so that I can get a bigger one but so far, after 3 weeks, I have only received a generic reply to my email. Using a slightly bigger piece of fabric for the cover and perhaps an elastic round the edge to secure it around the sandbox would have done the trick.

I bought this for our 2 kids to play with, ages 3 and 6. Its a good size for two kids but any more would be a squeeze. I'd definately recommend digging a hole to put it in to prevent the sand from coming out of the bottom. A couple of inches will do. The downsides to this pit are.. the bottom is only a sheet, and it comes apart if is lifted by any part of it. ie. if a child decides to lift the seat edge (which can happen when removing the elasticated cover) then the side will open up and sand will come. That said, none of this has happened with ours!! Its been dug into the ground a tad a the kids know not to lift the edges. The cover is spot on, its tight enough not to get blown off,but there is enough slack in it to be able to stick a kids spade standing up underneath the cover so that the rain runs off.I put 140kg of playsand in and i'd say it could take a bit more. Definately wouldn't have any less. All in all a good purchase

Little girls love the sandpit. Takes quite a lot of sand to fill to a decent level (we have used 12 big bags and could probably still do with a couple more). But it's great for them to have lots in there to play with! The low stars are because of how difficult it is to put together in the right places, and even now after dismantling and putting together so many times ours isn't right because the lengths of the sides are different rather than flush, but it's together and we gave up trying! It could do with labels on the pieces so you know which is supposed to go where! But even with it not being put together in the correct places it's sturdy and the seats are useable. The cover on the bottom isweak and could do with stapling to the wood as we often end up with sand spilling out the bottom in places. And the waterproof cover comes off unless we peg it down. Hence the 4 stars.

After reading the reviews I was in slight doubt about the quality of this, but when it arrived I was really happy with the quality. The wood was well made and came treated. You get a sheet to go on the bottom that stops weeds coming through, but would allow for water to drain through. It took about an hour to put together. It's fairly easy to figure out how it goes together. There is a seat for two sides but we decided only to put it on one. Both my children fit easily into the sand pit, it's a good size for them. We used 5 x 15kg sand bags in it to fill it to a good level. The lid itself fits the exact size of the sand pit and has elastic round the corners. It does need additional securing. We have put wood across the middle and will put something across the sides for winter. The sand pit itself is good quality and well made. For two children it's the right size.

My parents bought the wooden sandpit for my daughter's 2nd birthday a month ago. They are quite old fashioned and wanted to buy her something traditional/made of wood (not more aweful plastic!) and we wanted something she would actually play with so this fitted the bill nicely. Very easy to put together and has a handy shelf along two sides that mum or dad can sit on while little one plays. Our daughter loves it although the weather hasn't been good enough to get much use out of it yet. My only criticism is that the plastic rain cover that comes with it is a little too small - we can only get it to stretch over 3 of the corners so it blows off in high winds and the sand gets very wet!

It was fairly easy to put together; but as most other people, I found that the top cover did not fit. I e-mailed Plum who sent a replacement one to me. (Very good customer support).I also found that the side slats were too loose and that the ground sheet would not be strong enough to hold the sand in and move the sandpit. If you are into DIY then you can make a good sandpit into an excellent one. I put on a MDF base, (110cm x 100cm x 1.8 cm) and brackets to keep the slats in place. I finnished it off with Cuprinol to fully weather prooof it.My children & friends really love it & keeps then entertained for hours.

I am very happy with this product.. Its ideal for my 5 year old to get in there and have hours of play. The quality of wood is ideal and I was surprised if im honest at how sturdy it was.I've only one downfall with this product and thats the cover that goes at the bottom. Maybe if they had done a cover the same as the one that covers it , it would have been 100% perfect. We get a lot of rain here in Devon...Alot,,, The water ran under the sand pit and soaked the sand. The top cover is great and does the job.My little gal is so happy with it and I really have no grumbles with it. Worth the money.... :)

The product arrived quickly and was put together by my son for my 2 year old grandson. A little larger than expected but thats a bonus. The only down side (other than my son thanking me for having to spend almost £50 on play sand (100+kg))the cover is very flimsy in any kind of wind. Since there are many cats in the area that my son lives, he is aware that a large pit of clen sand could attract unwanted activity from the cats so he found a need to place a wooden panel over the pit to keep the cats out.Overall, my grandson would play in the sand from 'dawn 'til dusk', a worthwhile buy.

This sandbox is absolutely fantastic. It only has a fabric bottom to stop weeds, but I situated it on paving so there's no problem with that at all.My daughter adores it and we've sat for ages making sandcastles and burying each other!I read other reviews about the cover not fitting, but ours fits perfectly, and as long as you put something tall in the centre before you cover (it does advise this in the instructions) then there's no worries about puddles forming.Would definately recommend, and think it's well worth the money.

This product is good, bought it as we were let down by another supplier, not really what we wanted but good never the less, as for previous people who commented saying the cover was small, it has either been redesigned or you put it together wrong, there is plenty of cover enough to put something underneath in the middle so the rain drains of it. Let's be real now though 9 bags of play sand to fill and you could still possibly get another 2 or 3 bags in, any less than 9 and your kids will be digging the liner before you know it.

The sandpit is a good size and children of all ages will enjoy using it.My gripe is with the material it's constructed from - it feels too light and flimsy and doesn't feel built to last. The cover fits well but does sag with water when it rains, so putting something tall in the middle to allow the water to run off helps.Eight bags of sand is a minimum - much better with 10.Overall, it's a sandpit. It does it's job well but there are better value (in the long run) sandpits out there - the kids will love it though!!

Really pleased with the sandbox and my 20 month old daughter loves it too - it did though take 7 x 15kg bags of sand to give it a good amount of depth but sooo worth it! Only negative is that the first sandpit we received had broken planks but Argos exchanged it no problem at all (and ensured that the one we were next issued with was perfect by opening and checking each piece in store). Really easy to put together and it's nice to look at and sturdy too - just need better weather now so we can make use of it!

12.5.2009

Really easy to assemble and my daughter loves it. definitely worth the money when comparing to other wooden sand pits.We had a few initial problems where the top cover didn't fit and some of the wood was broken, but after 3 attemps, we were able to achive a fully assembled sand pit!The only downside to the sandpit is that the panels fit together like a jicsaw puzzle and are not 'fixed'. Hence it you try and lift it by the top panel, it can easily come apart, so once assembled don't try and move it!

The product itself is good and does the job however on the advice of other reviews I have made a couple of modifications to make it a 5 star sandpit.I have added a hardboard base and lid. The waterproof cover has been used to waterproof the hardboard lid. I have also brought a couple of Hasp's and staples to ensure the lid doesn't blow off and for extra security. The product arrived very quickly and was easy to put together. With the changes made, this product is excellent and my daughter loves it!
