After dropping £230 on a Thrustmaster TX wheel last year for Project Cars etc, the last thing my wallet could take was another hit for a racing seat. I also didn't want a set up that is constantly out, making the place look ugly so I did what probably quite a lot of people do and bought a cheap folding table and a cheap chair to keep me going. The experience was still utterly brilliant but it was the quality of the wheel that was masking the poor quality of the set up I was using. There must have been two or three occasions that I almost went for the Playseat Challenge but kept talking myself out of it, always unsure whether I would have enough room between my TV and sofa and unsure whether my TV was too low down.It turns out, 1.2 metres between TV stand and sofa is more than enough room for my 6 foot body to fit in and my TV is not too low, despite sitting about 45cm from the floot on an IKEA stand. The Playseat Challenge comes in a small enough box and is incredibly well packaged. Every part is either bubble wrapped or foam covered with elastic bands holding them in place. As soon as you unwrap everything and lay it out infront of you, you can see and feel the quality of this product. The instruction manual is very simple to follow and I had it all assumbled within 20 minutes. The wheel is very easy to screw onto the mount and likewise, the pedals strap on very solidly with the provided tools. Adjusting the chair for your preferred height takes a few minutes of hopping in and out but once you have settled on a set up and take a step back, you realise that yes, yes this is worth every single penny and that confirmation continues to be proven as your next steps take place. The Playseat Challenge is super comfy to sit in I am very impressed with the build quality. Now I can race with full commitment without fear of a foldable table spilling over or my pedals sliding too far away from me mid race. Everything adjusts easily and cleverly, from pedals to wheel mount and the seat height. Folding away the seat is very very easy and a velcro strap is included to hold it all together. The set up you have settled on never changes each time you open it up so there is no messing around for 5 minutes each time you fancy a race. In short, I managed to bag this for £99.99 on prime day which was my biting point. Had I known now after owning the seat what I didn't know 6 months ago however, I would have easily spent the £130-£150 that the price hovers around and would have still felt as happy with the purchase.

I like it. So do the cats. It’s comfy and pretty well adjustable for larger and smaller folk. And it can take one of those shaker rig attachments under the seat I believe, which might be a good upgrade if you have the cash. And it takes the rather excellent Fanatec wheels and pedals a treat. I have the F1 set but with the 3 pedal setup as well as the two pedal F1 setup, for when you need to heel & toe etc. There are only two downsides, hence 4 stars:The first is that the structure isn’t 100% rock steady. It’s close but not quite - a bit too much flexibility in the frame. If you’re smaller or more gentle, then maybe it would be better - smooth is fast of course - but it just lacks serious solidity.Brothers.The second and more major inconvenience for me is the central “pillar” holding the steering wheel. It runs right from the wheel down to the floor, so you need to choose - if you ever want to use three pedals - whether you put the brake on the left side of the divider, for left foot braking, or on the right hand side if you want to heel & toe. It’s either/or, and that’s a pain. You can of course start to dismantle the pedal set and remove and shift the brake and maybe add/remove the clutch, but you’re not going to want to do that every time you shift from Dirt Rally to F1 2018.The solution of course would be two central pillars, either side of the pedal set, which would immediately open up the pedals so you can simply slide the brake to one side or the other - a 30 second job - rather than have to dismantle it, and would simultaneously increase rigidity. If you’re going to stick to a 2 or a 3 pedal setup however, and you go a bit gentle with the wheel and more importantly the pedals (the Fanatec brake pedal is a beast - very realistic, you do have to hit it hard and then you get the flex from the “footwell”) then it’s very good. Subject to the above I’d recommend it.

I've had the Playseat Challenge for a few days. Very happy with it.It only takes about 10 to 15 minutes to put it together as most of it is already pre-made.Lots of velcro cables are included together with four bolts and two allan keys to secure your steering wheel. The manual just uses pictures to show you how to set it up and adjust everything. It's easy to understand, but would have preferred a little more detail.Let's get the negatives out of the way. The Playseat Challenge doesn't scream quality. It has a plastic build. It doesn't feel like anything will break, but it does just feel like a cheap plastic chair. I saw a few scrapes on the poles, but nothing that would make me send it back. There is no gearbox (shifter)mount on this chair. There is a bracket available from PlaySeat for about £30, but if you search online you will find lots of people sharing tips on how they created their own support for the gearbox using brackets, clamps, etc.Now onto the positives. This thing is fun. A lot of fun. It doesn't look it, but the chair is very comfortable to sit in once you're strapped in. It's easy to get in and out too (as long as you stand up by grabbing one of the poles to stand). The first time you fold it up you will be frustrated by how it all works, but after doing it a few times you'll be able to fold it up very quickly. The fact the chair folds up is one of the best selling points about the challenge. It's very practical. I'd love to have room in my house for a full size racing chair and setup, but the reality is that space is limited. That is why the challenge was the right fit for me.In summary, the chair looks a little cheap from a distance, but it's comfortable to sit in, easy to set up, and easy to put away.I did consider some of the wheel stands, but so glad I opted for the challenge. Would highly recommend it.

This is the first time I’ve felt the need to write a review for a product I’ve bought off Amazon! After playing DiRT Rally with the wheel clamped to my PC desk for about 8 months the time had come to look into a gaming seat but the main issue I have is space and the lack of it. Whatever solution I chose it had to be able to be put away in a cupboard and this is why I opted for the Playseat Challenge.I was a bit dubious about it at first as basically it’s a deck chair with a bit of tubing! After assembling it which was easy and made some adjustments to my seating position via the Velcro straps I instantly found it a vast improvement to what I was using previously,in fact it really feels like you sitting in a proper gaming seat built to a high quality. It takes about 2 mins to set up from getting it out of the cupboard and the same to put away again, the width of it when folded up is 21” which allows for easy storage when not in use.If you’re looking for a real feel gaming seat but want the convenience of actually having your room back when it’s not in use then I highly recommend this product.Update:I bought the G29 gear shifter whilst it was still half price at PC World but there’s not a lot of mounting options on the Playseat, so I opted to make a custom bracket using 2” x 2” aluminium angle and a U bolt. The angle needed a little bit of jig sawing and drilling and is clapped from the underneath with the U bolt, it’s very rigid and doesn’t move at all. The Playseat still folds up the same and the bracket doesn’t get in the way whilst using the seat. When I get time it’ll be sprayed black to finish the job.

This review is for the Playseat Challenge. I've noticed the reviews seem to be for any one of the seats in this listing, so I figured I'd make that clear. The wheel I have is a Logitech G29.As glorified deck chairs go, this one is really good. I really enjoyed putting it all together. There are simple instructions but you don't really need them, it's quite a logical thing to do. There's bolts to fix the wheel to plate, which are kind of fiddly to put in. I recommend doing that before you attach the cross beam to the chair. The cross bar hinges on one side so you can get in and out. There's a small bar the extends from the front leg to ensure it doesn't tip up when the bar is lifted. For the pedals, another small bar stops the unit slipping forward and a strap wraps around and secures by velcro. The seat is comfy, it's not tiring to sit in for any period of time and can be adjusted by tightening / loosening the straps that hold the alcantara seat cover on. The chair is steady and if tightened sufficiently, the wheel fixture still has an occasional wobble but once playing you don't notice.Folding the seat is as simple as you imagine a deck chair would be. The top ties together with the supplied Velcro straps and the pedals fold up and are secured in the same way. It's not as light as a deck chair though but it's easy enough for an average human to carry.Although it's early days (2 days in fact) I've not found a downside to it. I certainly don't regret opting for this over the more expensive Evolution. Although obviously, the dream is the Playseat F1!

I bought this on a whim after getting fed up with my old Wheelstand Pro and I'm so glad I did, it is in a different league to the Wheelstand!Due to a lack of space I sim race using the TV in my living room and so needed something that can be folded away easily when not in use. This is pretty much perfect. It takes a minute or two to set up and pack down at the end of an evenings racing.I've been upgrading all my sim racing gear gradually over the last year and I now have some pretty heavy equipment (Fanatec CSL Elite wheel, Clubsport V3 pedals and Clubsport SQ 1.5 shifter). I was concerned the Playseat Challenge might not be up to the job but it copes just fine.I have had to come up with some DIY modifications to fit the pedals and the shifter, but all simple enough.I also find the seat very comfortable. My two complaints are 1) the angle of the head rest made it uncomfortable as it was pushing my head forwards and 2) the pedals were too flat to the floor. I solved problem 1 by fitting a cheap, foam lumbar support intended for a car, which I mounted at about shoulder height, and problem 2 by putting a cork yoga block under the pedals when I'm using it. It's now incredibly comfortable, even after several hours of racing.I absolutely adore this thing, and if mine ever broke (which I can't see happening - it's survived over a year of pretty constant use!) then I'd buy another one, no question. If you're on the fence between buying this or a Wheelstand, do yourself a favour and buy this.

I decided to write a review after reading some of the other reviews for the Playseat Challenge.I have now had the seat 9 months. I use it almost every day for quit long periods and due to space it gets folded away quite often. I am 5.5 and weigh 86 kg and found it to be sturdy, well made and of strong construction, no creaking problems with me. The photos really do it no justice and the frame is a lot thicker than it looks. It is very comfortable and offers a realistic racing seat position. Which btw are not the easiest things to get in and out of in real life. The upholstery is absolutely lush and my G29 shifter mounted using a 3D printed left hand bracket I brought cheap from an auction.Perfect and comfortable position for me!I have heard of some people having a small issue with the pedal mounting attached to the frame by two brackets creeping off to one side and having to recenter it every so often. I have read that using a few cable ties stops this issue. Although I've not had any problems with this myself. All in all I think it is totally awesome and couldn't be happier. A great practical design, beautifully made, meets all my needs and really does the job well. Great for VR and whats more it has no coloum between your legs for the wheel, like a lot of other racing seats do. Even if space is not an issue you might want to consider this seat as a good option for your racing seat requirements.

I've had the Playseat `Challenge' for a month; I use it with Forza 4. I was a bit sheepish about spending £180 (eBay) on what looked like a deck chair, but since it was the only thing offering something like a driving seat, with the easy storage of a steering wheel stand. All of the online reviews that I could find were good so I bought one.On delivery it took less than 2 minutes set up, all the major parts are well made. Some of the small Velcro straps (used when folded for storage) are a bit flimsy as are some of the plastics around the footplate hinge. These were my initial reactions. That's all the negative things I have to say, having spent 20 hours in the seat, I love it.Being able to change the driving position from fairly upright down to the F1 racing position is great, the seat is supportive and 2 hour stints haven't been a problem for me. It's also extremely stable, I have had no lateral movement at all, no matter how frantic the driving gets. Once folded, with your wheel and pedals still attached it is only 30cm deep and fits easily into a cupboard and it really does only take seconds to set up once you've got your wheel & pedals ready attached. It has well exceeded all my expectations, if you're thinking about it, I don't think you'll be disappointed.I should say I still think it's a bit over priced for what it is, but in the context of the options available this is a safe purchase.

All I can say is that this seat is absolutely fantastic. Got mine set up last night, and the difference it makes when gaming is unbelievable. The seat is really comfortable, and the adjustment available to you is pretty much infinite, I can see this being a good fit for anyone to be honest. Bear in mind I'm 5' 10" and 18 stone and it fits me perfectly. The whole thing is just quality, the seat is well padded and stitched and the finish is excellent.Once your sat in it, with the wheel and pedals attached it is absolutely rock solid. I'm surprised how firm it is when driving to be honest, as it's so lightweight and looks like it could flex a bit, but once everything's fixed in position, there's absolutely no movement. I'm currently using it with a G29, and managed about 3 hours last night on GT Sport in one sitting, without a single ache. I used to use a wheel stand before, but there really is no comparison, this is in a different league. If your on the fence about this or just a stand, as someone who's owned both I simply wouldn't bother with a stand at all now. The major selling point for me as well was how it folds up with everything attached, so not only do I not have to break everything down and then re-arrange the living room when I'm finished gaming, it keeps the wife happy 'cos it's all tucked out of the way in a cupboard now.

Definitely worth getting one of these if you are after a racing chair for your gaming wheel, but don't have the space to store a full size rig when not in use. The chair is much sturdier than I was expecting and is easily adjustable to let you get your preferred seating style.Doesn't take up loads of space when it's folded and I love the fact that you leave the wheel and pedals attached before folding it.Assembly is easily done, just takes a little bit of adjusting at first to get the chair how you like it, this is easy to do though and once you've got it right it can stay with these settings when folded. It feels like it is made from good quality materials, the frame is thick metal and the material used for the seat cover is very comfortable. Also it's not too heavy to lift when it's all folded up, which is a bonus.I originally looked at buying either one of these or a foldable stand for my racing wheel, but the playseat will allow me to use other wheels on it as well should I change my console in the future- whereas some of the stands are wheel-specific so would need to be changed if buying a new wheel. Like some of the online reviews say, it's not a hardcore racing-sim chair, but it definitely fits the bill for me.Overall I'm very pleased with this purchase- just wish I had bought one sooner!

Had this wheel a few days now and am very happy. When looking around it was very important i was able to fold away and store easily as i play in the living room. This rig is perfect for that, it folds away easily with the wheel/pedals attached even smaller than i'd expected and is light and easy to move. When the seat is brought out from behind the sofa it doesn't stop impressing, Build quality is excellent and the rig looks and feels great even for what is a low price in this market.Setting up is nice and easy and i found the perfect seating position for myself no problem, the only slight drawback being that you cannot adjust the wheel position (only tilt)meaning that my seating position is determined by where i can reach the wheel best, If i wanted to adjust to a more F1 seating position the wheel would be out of reach.Once you're into the rig it is surprisingly comfortable and stable. It may take a while to adjust all the straps to using trial and error to get it correct for your own taste. I found setting the front/leg strap quite loose and setting the back strap as tight as possible worked best for me.Pros :PriceBuild QualityVery stableEasy set-upEasy Fold away and storageGenerally ConformableCons :Steering wheel position not adjustable

This is the best thing you can buy to mount a steering wheel and pedals on if space is an issue its folds neatly with Velcro straps with wheels and pedals still attached (see pic).Super easy set up ! Comes in three parts that slot together . It's fully adjustable I'm 6ft and could easily set it up for my 5 year old to have a go in seconds . I can have it sat upright like a standard road car position or down low F1 style . Some reviews have said its hard to find the right driving position but set the two Velcro arm rest straps is quick and easy and once set they won't change when folded away .Additional Velcro straps are supplied to tie the wires neatly to the frame and so are hex screws to fixyour wheel to the plate in the pre drilled holes.Pedals will not move no matter how hard you accelerate or brake and are secured with another Velcro strapThe build quality is amazing .This seat could also be used as a gaming chair as the wheel mount bar is removable.Shifter mount is not included which is a shame but one can be bought additionally (I'm making my own custom mount )All in all very happy there is nothing else like it and I saved money not buying a separate stand and chair which would of taken more room and less comfortable driving position.

I'm 5'11", 78kg, and I'm pleased with the chair. I bought it as I wasn't getting enough use from my G29 due to the hassle of tabletop setup and putting away each time. I now keep the seat in a sliding door cupboard and use with my PS4 and PC. It's portable enough to take up and down stairs with ease, and keeps the wheel and pedals safe. There's no space for the gear-stick, which I've never actually used as I play in automatic at the moment. I'd recommend buying a set of black nylon cable ties for safe cable attachment and locking. The chair came with velcro cable ties, but I worry that kicking the pedals out with too much force will rip the cable. The pedal section is a slightly weak joint, hence dropping a star. It has two nylon locking screw to easily adjust the pedal distance, but my son unscrewed one too much and our dog ate it!!! I use a anti-slip rubber pad (designed to hold mats in place) under the pedals to stop movement. The chair is very comfy, although the triangular arm supports connectors tend to dig into my legs a little. The chair is very adjustable. I'm pleased with the quality of the chair fabric, metalwork and overall package. I believe it will last.

I bought this racing seat to play Gran Turismo Sport on PS4 & Logitec G29, I wanted to go with the Playseat GT but with space being an issue this model was a good compromise. I was sceptical at first but decided that the reviews were good enough to take the punt.I am so glad i did, the build quality is good and feels reassuringly solid. It was easy to setup and has a multitude of adjustments. The force feedback from the G29 transfers through the frame of the PlaySeat offering further immersion into the game, especially in VR mode where you get the most realistic experience. At first my laptimes were worse,I had gotten used to using an office chair and PC desk but after a few hours I started shaving time off my previous fastest laps and by the following day I was gaining as much as 3s.The wheel mount is on a hinged arm which can be raised to get in and out of the seat easily but it also makes it quick to remove the entire arm complete with wheel via the spring loaded guide pin. This is useful at times when you merely want a comfortable gaming chair, i have worked from home on a laptop in it too.

I Bought this to replace my current setup of just a normal dinningroom chair and cheap table that wobbled so I didn't use it as much, the seat is comfy initially so if your planning on edurance Race or playing for long periods I recommend taking a break (as you would if driving for real). Setup isn't to difficult, the instructions are easy to follow, although I did have issues with two of the screws which couldn't screw in properly, having said that their secured enough not to notice any movement whilst playing. I have a Logitech G29 with seperate gear shifter, the pedals and steering wheel fit on to the plates using 3 screw points for each (although the G29 has 6 screw points on the pedal plate only 3 can be used due to location of holes on the seat base plate)If you have a seperate gear stick shifter there isn't a holder for it so you will have to purchase a seperate base for it and attach it somewhere that suits.Price is a little high but overall its a great piece of equipment which I know regret not having sooner, its sturdy, reasonably comy and easy to find a good driving postion.
