This is a great toy, if your kids are in to pirates. The ship is huge and has so many little bits and bobs on it to fiddle with that your kid (or kids, it is big enough for two to play with at once) will be able to invent piracy adventures for quite some time. On top of that, it floats! It’s a bit big for a bath, but doable. It could also easily go into a swimming pool (though care should be taken to keep all the little pieces out of the filters), in which case you may want to go for the optional motor accessory (I kid you not). There are three pirates supplied, with interchangeable hats and weapons, plus a few accessories like gunpowder barrels and a little monkey. Then there are the two cannons which fire dart-like cannon balls. Shooting at stuff is always going to be fun and because these are darts (with bright red tails) rather than actual balls, they don’t get lost too easily. The best part is that, since it can require adult assembly, you get to play with it first! Open the box and you get the impression you’ve bought an AirFix kit rather than a Playmobil toy. There are lots of bags containing lots of little pieces and practically all of them need to be attached to the ship, which comes in two pieces; the hull and the decking. Almost everything just clips together, so it is not all that challenging to make and your little one can lend a hand to reduce frustration at not being able to sail it out of the box. The deck does need to be screwed to the hull via 7 screws, so you’ll need a screwdriver for that (make sure you have one to hand!). There is also a pack of stickers that need to be applied to add a little more colour and texture to the various different plastic pieces which also need steady hands. The masts are easy enough to remove, making fitting the ship into a cupboard a little more viable. What is a shame is that the deck is screwed to the hull – otherwise you could keep all the little pieces inside it when it’s put away, whereas in reality there’s lots of wasted space. Everything feels sturdy and solid, though inevitable knocks will likely send some of the smaller, clip-on pieces flying under couches or wherever to get lost over time. But at first, at least, this is a very handsome toy. Which it should be given the price! The danger is that you may find yourself under pressure to get more of the extended pirate themed Playmobil toys to go with it… Stand strong, this lovely ship should be enough.

As with others of their bigger sets, the initial construction can be somewhat challenging for a smaller child, and adult supervision is needed. Having said that, the instructions are clear and the parts well designed, so it all goes together very satisfyingly. Please note that the shaped polystyrene is not packaging - it is flotation to put inside the hull. There is an excellent speeded-up video on the playmobil.de site (search for Playmobil 6678) which shows the whole construction, if you want to get an idea.Unlike Lego, once the set is built, you will not be taking the hull apart and building again - it's a one-time thing. But the masts are removable (they simply turn and click into place)so this helps a little with storing the finished ship. In general, I would say it is all very strong and robust, with the possible exception of the sails. These are held in place by thin plastic fixings, which might not survive really rough treatment, but are fine for normal use.Often with Playmobil you get absolutely masses of little bits and pieces to support imaginative play thereafter. In this case, the ship itself is the star - including working cannons, which fire little foam-tipped darts, and a functioning anchor which you can winch up and down. Apart from this, you get 3 characters (2 pirate men and one pirate woman - good!) with swords, belts, hats, etc. - and a little ship's monkey to climb the rigging.Playmobil can sometimes be achingly twee and sweet. Whilst hardly fearsome, this ship avoids this - and manages to look imposing and piratical, greatly assisted by the black sails, and massive skull and crossbones on the main sail. If your child is very taken with this (i.e., if they love pirates) they will probably want other sets that combine with this one, such as a pirate island complete with skeleton. If you were feeling really brave, you could purchase an underwater motor (ref 5536) for this ship which can be remotely controlled, for sailing on a small pond or pool. All in all this would make a brilliant "star" present for any imaginative child, boy or girl.

Like all Playmobil sets, this Floating Pirate Raiders’ Ship needs to be constructed. This can be fiddly, although, luckily, my son loves making things like this and volunteered to put it together. However, it does take a while and so, if you have children who are likely to be disappointed if they cannot play with a toy as soon as it is taken from the box, it might be a good idea to make it first and then present it to them. For other children, of course, making the toy is as much fun as playing with it and so you can decide for yourself. On the plus side, the instruction booklet is excellent, the parts well made and the stickers good quality.Once made, you get a large pirate ship which can either be moved via wheels or can float on water – and it floats well, without tipping. You can get lots of Playmobil pirate sets; including islands, treasure chests and various ships. This is a large pirate ships, which comes with three pirate figures, a cute little monkey, firing cannons and lots of small accessories (such as weapons), a working anchor, a steering wheel which turns and a crow’s nest. One small disappointment is that you cannot access the area beneath the desks (obviously, the floatation aspect of the toy requires stability), but there is a small hiding place beneath the deck and you can store the smaller toy pieces there so they don’t get lost. This was a huge hit with my children and little niece and nephew. My son loved making it, my nephew adored playing with it. It is very impressive, good quality and has a huge amount of play value. What is more, it is fine on its own – you can add other sets to it, but it is perfectly good as a toy to be played with alone, either on water or on the floor. I can see this being a great hit in the paddling pool come the summer and a real favourite with pirate mad children everywhere.

I got quite a surprise when this arrived, I certainly didn't expect this to be so big!The ship is delivered in bits and needs assembly, this will be a joy to some parents if they are like me and loved meccano as a kid, it will annoy others immensely especially if they have children hopping round waiting to play with it. Once assembled, the ship will float in the bath (don't throw out the polystyrene float in the hull) and on other water although I would be keeping a careful watch in the latter case given the target age of the toy. There is a handy alternative of a set of wheels that then let the ship "sail" across the carpet. The ship is well armed with spring loaded cannon that fire balls on sticks over quite an impressive distance.More than enough to assault parents with a good broadside as the ship traverses the carpet. Even the dog wasn't immune from this! There are pirate characters with plenty of weapons and lots of other working parts on the ship, this will keep the kids (and the parents) happy for hours.Classic Playmobil quality and I'm sure the assembly and sticker positioning is a deliberate ploy to remind dads of the days they spent making models as children. I loved it.

Great kids toy. This is nice and big, colourful, and lots to play with. First comes the construction, it has to be put together. Not so complex as lego, the bits are big enough for most kids to manipulate, the instructions are really easy to follow, and a good few hours can spent doing this. Younger children may need help, older kids will manage. There's stickers to stick on, and all the bits fit easily together.I've owned a previous incarnation of a Playmobil Pirate Ship that had string rigging; it looked good but was a nightmare to construct and even worse for keeping together. Removing them from this model is a big plus.Keeps kids entertained for hours. There's loads of pirate bits, including pirates (obviously), treasure chests, working canons and an anchor. Sits nicely on the floor or floats in the bath. I think a motor can be bought separately if you really want to go to town.Overall, great fun, and another good Playmobil product

My son is in love with this pirate ship, but it should come with a health warning...The assembly took just over an hour, including lots of stickers and small pieces. So be sure to do this out of sight of said child, otherwise you will endure what I did when making it, tears, tantrums, and constant use of the phrase "is it finished yet Daddy?!"The ship is 100% sea worthy, with a special polystyrene insert in the base, it floats perfectly on open sea. There are lots of small pieces that come with this pirate ship, so do take note of the age recommendation on the box, this would not be suitable for smaller children or toddlers. And with lots of bigger pieces involved in putting this together,it would be very easy for a smaller child to tear apart in a matter of minutes. The finished product is very impressive, and I have no doubt that when it comes to playtime - this is a winner.

Playmobil is one of those manufacturers you can buy from knowing what you buy will be a quality toy. It is constructive and helps with creative play. It makes the imagination work. It gets the children off their electronic devices. My daughter has lots of Playmobil and she has had and will have hours and hours of fun with it. She was delighted to receive the pirate ship. It takes a bit of time to build. My daughter did most of it and I only helped when called upon for the more fiddly bits and the stickers. The instructions are clear. The finished product looks great. The anchor and canon work. It really does float. Just the toy for those that love jack Sparrow.I have no hesitation in recommending Playmobil or this pirate ship for 4 years old upwards (I would suggest). It's great.

The Playmobil pirate line is not very extensive these days. Yet it is our kids favourite theme. This is one of the larger ships Playmobil has produced, but not the largest one, that we got a few years ago. And as a result it lacks a cabin. But does have a small cargo hold.Yet its pretty good, with its menacing black sails. And its very durable and of high quality as with all Playmoboil. Though requires a bit of assembly, in lauding 8 screws and a fair bit of sticker application, which can be a struggle with impatient kids around.Comes with 3 mean pirates and a cheeky monkey. Our son has been playing with it from 3 years onward, but we keep the small parts and cannon torpedo's away until he was 4.5.His sister 8 years likes it for a small bunch of female pirates as well.

This is a beautiful ship that was easy to assemble- I just wish I had waited until my children were older! I bought it for my 4 year old for Christmas but we also have a 1 year old and between them it was absolute carnage. Small pieces everywhere. The sails were pulled off so many times that I could no longer reattach them. One son poked half of the small playmobil pieces through a hole in the ship so they just rattle around inside it and honestly I can’t even face unscrewing the ship to retrieve them because it will just mean more tidying up for me! I wish I had bought it when my boys were old enough to take care of it and play with it appropriately. Not a criticism of the ship itself, which is wonderful - just may be helpful for other unsuspecting parents!!

Got this for my nephews and they love it! They arnt the sort of kids (and are a bit young) that enjoy assembling kits but luckily i LOVE doing things like that. I put the kit together (it is a bit fiddly but well made) and they helped. The boat is equally happy on water or out and is stable inspite of looking top heavy. Its very well made and so far even the bull dozer that is my 4 year old nephew hasnt managed to break it. As its a bit cold we put some water in the bath to play with it but in the summer i can see plenty of happy afternoons in the paddling pool for this ship. Its very nice to be able to give the boys a toy that inspires imagination rather than requires passive button pressing.

This is a large pirate ship play set that is in the Playmobil range of pirate toys. The images on Amazon suggest this is a large set but I wasn't quite ready for the size of the box when it arrived. The packaging is justified though, as there is some assembly required before the ship can be used, so it's good that the component parts are well protected. Once built up this is a rugged toy that will withstand robust play, either in the water or on dry land. The manual explains how the additional motor accessory can be installed, but I've not purchased that so I can't comment on how well that works.

The ship arrived as if straight off production line with all pieces neat in sellophane sealed bags. Upper and lower ship requires screwing together, and all sails and masts need fixing. Not a hard job but took both my husband and I near on 2 hours to recognise fittings and construct. Beautiful, amazing ship and every little childs dream. As for durability our 4 year old slowly dismantled the sails and ladders which took ages to put together. I think more suited to 5 or 6 yr old. Also if buying for Christmas Day make sure you construct before a little person sees it.

Larger than expected but that was welcomed by the recipient. It's well-made and has plenty of potential for use in play. My only concern is how some parts will survive long-term e.g. the sails are made of a thick paper material but they have very small holes, very close to the edge, for attaching to the mast. They can be detached from the ship - and frequently are - but I am not sure how long they will last with 'regular' use before the holes break and they can't be attached any more. I think parts can be bought - I'm not sure how expensive they are.

Great play set.The box and contents are huge but as far as the kids are concerned the bigger the better! Ship takes some building which can be a bit complicated and fiddly (hence dropped a star from the review) but once all together there is hours and hours of fun to be had here both in and out of the water (and yes, it does float and is a great bath time toy if your bath is big enough!Would highly recommend for smaller kids who have great imaginations...and adults who are really smaller kids at heart :)

Playmobil has been around for over 40 years - and they have stayed very true to their style throughout that period. Many of us grew up with some contact with their remarkably rigid toys. The quality of their toys comes both from solid design and solid construction - they are incredibly durable. This is a great pirate ship - it is a good size with some fun functions. It is not a cheap thing - but if you have a young family member who loves all things piratical, it would be an amazing gift.
