Saw these through another company for almost double the price and my kids really wanted to get them. I love encouraging reading so I checked here and not only got them for a little over half the price but a LOT faster (they were $8.99 on here at the time I purchased them). The books were thinner and smaller than I thought they would be for some reason but the kids absolutely love them. The stories are a little silly but that's perfect for encouraging reading! (And kind of fits the entire Lego movies and everything that has been done anyway.) If you have kids that like the Lego stuff and you want to encourage reading then this is a great way to go!I have not used the workbooks, yet, because we are just starting out the journey on reading. They feel like they might be good for Kindergarten or 1st grade but not in the very beginning of Kindergarten unless they have already been doing these types of workbooks before. (My kids have had some exposure with them but I'm holding off until the winter time when they are indoors to use these.) I was able to ask my kids before purchasing these if they would like them but I am seriously thinking about getting them for my nephew for Christmas now, too. They are short so it's easier to keep younger kids' attention with them, too!

These books are great for kids working on improving their reading but I would not say they are good for beginning readers as the reader would only be able to read certain words in the book and not all the words. I could see how it could be used with the beginning reader reading only the words that are in bold print that focus on the phonics and then someone else reading the other words. Some kids would be ok with this but my son is not one of them as he wants to be the one reading the whole book and not just a few words on each page. With all that said, I bought these books for my older son who is a struggling second grader and they work well for him. They are funny and are engaging. He feels accomplished when he finishes one and he can read them with little help from me because he has already learned all the phonograms and contractions that are used in the books. They are useful for him because he needs a LOT more practice reading and at his grade level the books are getting more difficult but moving to lower level books he looses interest so these are a perfect solution for him. I can't use them for both my sons yet but the oldest really appreciates them and the younger enjoys listening to him read them.

These books are short, easy to read, AND have an engaging subject matter. My students LOVE these books and beg to read them everyday. Younger children enjoy listening to them and looking at the pictures and older students will like that they are able to read the words.I gave this boxed set four stars because they portray Padme as nothing more than a whiny, ungrateful nag. It is offensive to her character. It might have been less offensive if other women were portrayed in the books, but they aren't. For instance, Obi Wan is portrayed as an incompetent idiot who is obsessed with cookies, but it is far less offensive because it is funny (rather than annoying/rude)and he is not the only male character in the books.

My 5 year old son (in Year 1) loves these books. We already have Lego Star wars and superheroes sets of books. Each book focuses on a different type of phonic sound, and those particular words are highlighted in the book by being in a bold font. The other sets I've seen don't have this. I'm not sure it's helpful or not, but it doesn't bother my son.He absoultely loves Lego, so this encourages him to read. He is a pretty good reader, but he finds some of the words are quite challenging, however I think that's a good thing. He also thinks the work books are great. The only thing I'd say in the neagative is there are a lot of Americanisms, so sometimes he has to ask me what things mean.

These books are a big hit with my beginning reader! The majority of words are very simple with an occasional longer/harder word. They are great for someone who has read the Bob books and wants an actual story that he can read mostly by himself. Also short enough for a 10-15 minute reading session, as opposed to Dr. Suess which are great but can last upwards of 30 minutes when read by a beginning reader (long, painful, slow minutes). These books are based on the same storylines as the Lego City books, but my kids think that is cool and not a disadvantage. We also love the handy carrying box, and the two workbooks will be fun to do.

The books are perfect for children learning to read especially for children who love lego. Each book targets a different sound, such as 'short e as in bed' and 'long e as in deep'. The two workbooks have exercises that practise the various sounds covered in the story books. The books are filled with good illustrations. The books come in a case and are quite small and thin, so after being read a few times might start to look a bit worn. My son is reading Oxford Reading Tree level 4 books and these lego books are perfect for him, not too easy and not too difficult.

I bought these for my almost 6 year old son who is in Kindergarten. He’s behind his class on reading, but he’s not even 6 years old! He loves to be read to and loves LEGOs. After buying some other early reader (Level 1) books and finding them to be too big of a leap from Bob books, I found these. My son is way more interested in these than Bob books because of the LEGO theme and they are simple enough that he isn’t pushing them away saying “these are too hard”. I’m so happy I found this set!

My son who has just turned four has learned to read almost exclusively reading books by Quinlan B Lee. All of them are well done - the 'just right' level of challenge for a child who knows the alphabet but doesn't know the sounds that go with each letter has been perfect. The content is great for young boys interested in Star Wars and it's pretty fun reading considering the author had to limit the vocabulary so dramatically. Very fun, worth every penny.

My 5-year old son has seen many phonics books. None of them could hold his attention and interest. This entire set does! He finds the pictures and story lines uniquely funny (and they are very silly with good morals behind them). We both enjoy them and he is picking up on phonics better than ever. It helps that he loves Lego, but I worried the quality of story line and content would be lacking before ordering. Fortunately, it did not disappoint!

Great set of books! My son has trouble reading, and so many of the "level 1" books I find are still to hard for him. These books are simple, they work on a certain skill "long o" or "short a"- bolding the words that contain this feature. Each page only has a few lines each, so it's not too overwhelming. Finally my son is excited about reading!! He is thrilled to read these, instead of fighting me over reading time.

Love this set of Phonics books for using as a teaching tool for my 6 year old. I am a home-school mom and use my own curriculum that I know will not lose the attention of an extra hyper child. He loves Lego City characters so much that he asks me if we can use the Lego books. Great teaching tool for any child that loves Legos!!! I recommend this set and all other Lego reading books for early readers!

From an adult perspective these stories are pretty terrible, but my 4 year old son loves them. Some of the words are not easy to sound out but focusing on the bold words is a good way to start out for a child who loves Lego or Fire and Police but gets tired of blending easily. My son likes that they come in a carry case too. We haven’t tried the activity books yet so I can’t comment on them.

I've ordered a few phonics sets for my 4 year old, and this one is definitely the hardest. There are long vowel words in the short vowel books and a lot of sight words that don't follow the rules. These books would be best suited for a beginning reader who knows a lot of sight words already. That being said, my son likes them, and they definitely make him want to read.

These are amazing books we are a foster home and we use these books for the children that come to live with us as some can't read and these phonic books are great in helping them with reading. They are very colourful and have lovely pictures inside them the stories are easy to follow and are designed to educate on a step by step basis brilliant set of books

I got these for my 4 year old Lego obsessed so and he loves them. They don't have a ton of words on each page so it will be good for when he learns to read and also a great short book to read before bed. And he loves how there are actual Lego sets he has and can get that match the picture in the book. A must have for any Lego lover!
