I got this as a replacement for the halogen bulb in a Lumie Bodyclock 100 wake up light. I was sick of the 'official' halogen bulbs blowing every few years (what can I say, I prefer the longevity of LED bulbs!).In comparison this bulb is noticeably brighter at full strength, with a very marginally warmer colour temperature at full strength, but using a fraction of the energy of the old bulb (about 20%). The old bulb also tended to heat up the bulb cover terribly, this does not, it's just warm to the touch, not hot. This bulb is a bit longer and a bit wider, but fits with room to spare in this particular model of the Bodyclock. The best thing I think for this particular application is the fact the light produced when dim is of a warmer colour temperature than the full strength light. To my mind this more accurately simulates the colour temperature of the sun rising than the original bulb did - going from dim orangey yellow, through to bright yellowy white. The 'sparkle' effect does mean the way the light projects onto the translucent bulb cover is a bit weird, a bit like looking at sunlight coming through trees, but static - the sparkle effect does not in any way move. Also note, in common with the original bulbs, used in this way this is in no way a SAD light - it's not bright enough - but used in a sunrise simulator like this to gently wake you up on a winter's morning, I think it's superb.Looking at the bulb itself, it's interesting how they've designed this. There are some central smaller, low power LEDs that light up first at low power, then as you increase this, more and more of the LEDs are brought into play, finally the outer larger ones switch on. At this point it's so bright it's difficult to look directly at the LEDs. I guess this is how they achieve the warmer colour temperatures at low power - the LEDs used for this are just calibrated for a warmer temperature than the larger outer ones.

Philips lightbulbs never let you down! These have a great wattage (8w, which to my eyes, is more like a traditional 40w+ but not quite as bright as an incandescent 60w - maybe a 55w, if such a thing existed) - perfect brightness for a bedside lamp used for reading or a few living room table lamps. I've even installed them in my kitchen hood, because the common 40w equivalent (5w) is too dim. These Master series Philips bulbs are dimmable and not 'pearl' style (which, in the case of LED, means they're still able to make a smooth light and have the benefit of bringing out 'sparkle' in decorative lampshades with glass or cut patterns). The light quality is indistinguishable from an incandescent bulb, with the added benefit of astonishingly low energy consumption although they get slightly warm where the transformer and electronic capacitors are mounted in their base, so still be careful when changing bulbs.A long review about a bulb! In a word: buy!

Works well, but as the 'glass's is clear, it provides a very harsh light with a lot of glare. If your fitting shield the bulb then this isn't an issue, but if it's exposed, then you should be aware. It would be nice if Philips offered an opaque version. As always Philips LEDs are top notch, there are no issues with flicker, warm up, slow starting, etc. They also fit into bulb holders easily (something not all energy saving bulb manufactures think (or care sufficiently) about. We've got dozens and dozens of E14, B22s and GU10s throughout the house - after faffing about with other makes, I only buy Philips now.Overall recommended, with the caveat about glare - hence four not five stars.

At just over 800lm, this is easily as bright as a 60W incandescent and one of the best/most powerful LED you can get from a known brand. I found Philips not to 'exagerate' brightness - other makes would claim this to be 80W equivalent. Also while other LEDs are cheaper - I still have to have a Philips LED - especially Master class - fail on me since buying over 3 years now.I very much love the design too with the light spreader/diffuser(?) give it a touch of class. The light spread is also very good. They also work with non-LED dimmers, obviously it is best to use LED/edge-dimmers but if you have older but good quality dimmers they may just work.

I purchased a lamp with the intention of using it to light up the living room in the evenings and needed a energy efficient yet bright bulb and WOW does this tick the box plus some. I was a tad dubious of the brightness as I have never used a LED saying its 8w but as bright as XYZ watts, but this bulb is that. The bulb itself physically is actually very large. As a result it does not actually fit in the lamp I brought it for so re purposed elsewhere, but being delighted with it, picked up a slightly smaller Phillips in the form of

OK so LED bulbs are never cheap, but these are a real success for Philips. Really nice warm white / gold light colour. Design glows really nicely and a quality looking bulb when lit.Installed with dimmer, 2 wall lights on dimmer and no flicker at all, even when dropped to the faintest glow. These being candle are lower wattage than other bulb options, but was so pleased bought another 4 in small round but brighter bulbs for elsewhere in house. Great.

I have a light fitting that takes 3 bulbs. I've been running on one for a month or 2 but last one finally gave up so bought this one to see what it's like. First, it fitted, so that was good. It's also very bright, I could easily use just the one bulb. But it is a big bulb, more than half of it sticks out of the light fitting. Can't comment on energy efficiency, or reliability, yet. Came very well packaged though.

This is a good quality bulb, and even seems to dim fairly evenly despite being LED. It goes down to *very* dim too, and the colour change makes it look very similar to halogen.Problem is that it's also massive and doesn't fit into the thing I wanted to put it in (a lumie bodyclock).EDIT: The identical 'globe' shaped version of this bulb actually does fit in a lumie bodyclock

Very pleased with them work perfectly and very bright, just as advertised at last a led bulb that does what they say it dims perfectly no flickering .yes they are a bit longer than a normal candle bulb but I have them in a 3 light ceiling fitting and look very nice .also very attractive to look at .I will purchase moor of them soon.

There are two problems with these bulbs. They are much bigger than the conventional bulbs they replace, and they don't cover a wide enough angle to fully illuminate a typical shade. I've attached two photos to let you judge whether these problems are significant. The comparison is with Philips halogen 60W candle bulbs.

very Impressed with the light output, lovely warm (and natural) warm white, larger than expected though other reviews have said the same, it looks great in the light fitting, just wished I’d ordered it 6 months ago (so I could have used it through the dark winter months)

Never paid a £10 for a light bulb before but thought what the hell, give it go. It's bright. Incredibly bright, amazingly so!I just hope it lasts as I'm doing my bit for the environment but if it's faulty, that's going to hurt my pocket more than a cheaper one would.

I'm using this in a standard 3 stage dimming touch sensitive bedside lamp and it's really good. The lowest level of dim is distinctly yellowish warm but the top output is search-light intensity white.Highly recommended.

Had a cheaper harsher. Dimmable led bulb .Noticed it hummed. Fitted the Philips ones . Better light flow brighter plus they are silent and seem to be more granular when dimming and brighter with a warmer glow.

I'm using this bulb for like a year, no problems, extremely good. I bought more bulbs of philips of this line and I'm very happy. I know where I'm gonna come back for more.
