I have got a lot of bayonet fitting Tornado bulbs around my house. I prefer the 23w to the 20w - they are a touch brighter, more genuinely equivalent to the old 100w bulbs. Most are in hallways, bedrooms etc. When they are switched on, they generally get left on for quite a long time. This is (I believe) the best use for CFL technology. They are all still going strong after about 4 years (?)I also bought one for the bathroom (E27 fitting). This tends to get switched on and off for short periods. I believe this is NOT ideal for CFL and LED is better. But at the time LED was still much more expensive (about £20 vs £5). This one has lasted 3.5 years - which seems very respectable compared to halogen. But much less than the 10 years they promise. The Tornados only take about 1-2 seconds to get to full brightness. This is amazing compared to older CFL. I assumed they were all this good nowadays - so bought a replacement from Wilko own brand. It takes about 30+ seconds to warm up - dreadful compared to the Tornado. Makes me appreciate the Phillips brand.I would have bought the same again. But it is about £5 - plus £12 delivery!!!!! No way. Also LED have become much more competitive in price (And have genuine instant startup. AND are resilient to frequently switching on/off)So - if you are sure you want CFL, I would definitely recommend Phillips Tornado. But maybe worth looking at LED these days.

Advantage of buying Philips low energy bulbs is that when they invariably stop working, Philips will replace them for you. So even though you pay a premium, not only do you get a higher quality product, but you have peace of mind that if through normal use the bulb stops working before it should, Philips customer service will help you. With regards to the bulb itself, very nice warm light, and nice and bright. Comes to full brightness very quickly.

I bought 2 of these 6 months ago, so have tried them through the winter. You know when you put a light on in the room and it still feels a bit gloomy? I've had that with so many different bulbs, but not these. They flood the room with light. They are bright in a couple of seconds. I cannot detect any shimmer. The light is warm and not harsh. There are no shadows, and no reliability problems having used them now all this time.A recommended buy!

Got this in a BC format from elsewhere but thought I'd drop by to say how brilliant they are. I got the 'daylight' colour output and it is indeed very similar to full spectrum summer daylight. It warms up in less than a minute and is very bright. I've got all manner of CFL's around the house, garage and garden and finally I've found one that I would not give up for a 100W incandescent.

Very bright indeed and for the energy it produces it is actually a very compact bulb (height much lower than equivalent products but slightly wider). The warm up time to achieve a decent amount of brightness is quite good compared to other similar bulbs I have tried. Overall, for the price it is a good purchase (assuming it lasts a few years!)

After years of enduring the supulchral gloom from 12w energy saving bulbs, I installed three of these in a 20 sq metre room with high ceilings and poor natural light. The result was amazing: clear, brigh,t but not harsh light. No more shadowy corners and a boost to our sense of well being during the dark days of winter. Highly recommended!

Seems great. Bought two last month to go in our new coach lamps on the front porch. Fit well and worked fine. However, one of the two has died after only two weeks. ?The other is working well at the moment. We may have got a faulty one or there may be issue with that coach lamp, so will see when we replace it before making any claims.

Very nice bulbs - in my house in China I have the 26W bulbs, same style and brand, and I'm a lot happier with the higher wattage bulbs from China. But these are still a nice colour and give off a decent amount of light. Just hope Phillips will start selling the brighter bulbs in UK soon.

Received on time with fairly basic packaging, but acceptable. No complaints on the light intensity nor the start-up for these type of bulbs. If there is possibly an issue I suspect it will be in the lifetime, so I will update as and when..

these low energy lights are so much better than when they were first brought out, you get a much brighter light and its more instant now than the earlier ones, also they are now more affordable and save you money as well

They're good and produce bright, pleasant light of uniform intensity around the bulb, but expect them to get considerably dimmer after 4-5 years, unless they have been improved in the meantime.

Comparatively slow to brighten up (nothing beats a Panasonic brand CFL from approx 2000 but this is slower than even my cheap IKEA bulbs) but so, so bright and a great not-too-warm colour.

Tornado Spiral 23W ES Bulbs. Good light and excellent price to replace conventional. First impressions very good light, much needed as my wife and I are not youngsters! Recommended.

Very pleased. A good deal brighter than the old 20 watt compact fluorescent it replaced and it warms up a lot quicker too. Not especially cheap - but just about OK price-wise.

Very bright warm white bulb. Much needed for our large living which the landlord had lit up with a 9W candle stick. In Prime, delivered next day for £4.59, is a great deal.
