I've had sonic toothbrushes before and haven't always liked them very much, they're either quite unpleasant to use (like a demented wasp trapped in your mouth) or they seem underpowered and ineffective - but this DiamondClean version from Philips is different. Starting with the design it's clear Philips want this to be a high-end device and the styling is more like a tech device than a toothbrush. The barrel of the handle is smooth with flush illuminated text that shows which of the 5 available modes the toothbrush is currently in. There are two buttons, one to power on/off and the other to switch between toothbrush modes, although this also happens when the handle detects the kind of brush-head you've attached and switches to the appropriate brushing mode automatically. You get a selection of brush-heads and a tongue-cleaner in the box, together with a bottle of Philips breath-freshening and tongue-cleaning spray. There are two recharging options included, a 'home or away' choice consisting of a stylish carry-case which has room for the handle and two brush-heads, which get snapped into place so they don't rattle around in transit. If you peel off the base of the case there's an attached USB cable that allows you to connect to a mains charger or handy laptop and recharge the toothbrush while it's in the case. You also get a mains charger with a specially moulded platform which the supplied engraved glass tumbler sits onto - you simple place the toothbrush into the glass when you've finished and it sits there charging for next time. This is a very simple way to charge your toothbrush but it's also quite slow and a full charge will take at least 24hrs and even a top-up after using the brush a couple of times seems to take ages - but it does look very cool sitting on your countertop while it's charging.Previous sonic toothbrushes I've tried didn't seem to provide enough agitation to really get your teeth clean, they were all sound and no fury and didn't always remove food particles or plaque - this one is different and it provides plenty of sonic action. Each of the specialised brush-heads, for tasks like tooth whitening and gum care, has their own sonic mode but you can override these if you prefer a more gentle or more furious effect. The tongue cleaner has a silicone paddle-head with a slight texture (not unlike a rough tongue) and this has its own gentle mode that can't be overridden and which only lasts for 10 seconds. The tongue cleaner is a minor revelation and, used in conjunction with the spray, is a complete delight that leaves your tongue and breath fresh and clear. All of the Philips brush heads have an elegant thin neck and small-ish heads that make them feel much less invasive that other mechanical brush-heads do. They also don't have the little holes exposing plastic gears inside that mechanical heads do, so you feel safer closing your lips around the shaft to avoid the rabid-drool-fest that electric toothbrushes can induce. Tip: you can avoid this phenomenon even more if you choose a toothpaste that doesn't contain SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulphate - a foaming ingredient). The brush-heads feel like precision tools compared to some others and it's easy to reach every part of your mouth, even the awkward corners. One negative point about the smooth seamless plastic that forms the handle is that while it looks great it also gets very slippery when it's wet and toothpaste-y and it's too easy to loose proper hold of it while you're brushing.Of course this is a 'smart' toothbrush that connects via Bluetooth to a dedicated app running on your smartphone. The app tracks your brushing, using the location sensor in the brush, and can tell if you've cleaned each part of your mouth. It also tracks the usage of each brush-head and suggests when it's time to replace them - and of course sells them as an in-app purchase. The app is well presented but I found it very unreliable on my Android smartphone and it wouldn't hold a connection to the brush. I also really doubt many people will want their valuable glass-fronted smartphone perched on the edge of the bathroom sink and getting sprayed with toothpaste while they brush. It's a cute gimmick but I don't see the app offers enough added functionality to justify risking your smartphone for, but others may differ. All together it's an exceptional toothbrush, by far the best sonic toothbrush I've ever tried, and the design and styling set it apart from all others. Unfortunately so does the price. I have no hesitation giving the device itself a 5-star rating but the (full retail) price is insane and even with the exceptional design and function it's difficult to see how that's really justified.

I have the previous sonic model bought on amazons deal of the day and so was familiar with the app, that toothbrush s amazing so would this one measure up at a much higher cost?Firstly, the app has had an overhaul meaning it can sit in the backgoeund while working so if you use your iPhone for the radio or music in the bathroom you can now still do this without it cutting out while the app works. That was a minor annoyance but worth noting. The design is sleek and very nice, it's ergonomic and not heavy. The big difference here is the set of toothbrush heads which tell (or rather, suggest) the handle which programme it should work on for the best result. This is basically the toothbrush equivalent of a tassimo machine - the head has a small barcode or some such signal and once you attach it the handle reads it and selects the programme for you. Now these can be overridden and I think that's important as I can see people using the gum clean brush for normal brushing once their normal brush wears out for example.I pick the gum health brush first and the app asks me if I would like to set this as my 3 week challenge- the app likes its challenges and will try to get you to do as many as possible. The cleaning is very good, and if you are familiar with the technique then it is the same, upper three and then lower three, then the gum health section comes into pace and for the next 80 seconds you reclean your teeth but this time it vibrates and cleans / massages the gums. Strange,t, this programme only does 4 quadrants, upper and lower right and front (both top and bottom) are ignored.Once the programme has finished it goes through it's annoying little checklist (did you floss? Yes / no. Did you use mouthwash? Etc) but these can be stopped in the settings.A slight annoyance was when I attached the tongue cleaning head and made myself gag for 20 seconds and yet at the end of brushing my teeth it still asked me if I had cleaned my tongue? If the device has all these little microchips I would have thought it would have remembered.the tongue cleaning was very good actually and I happily set up the clean tongue challenge! The charging device - well it looks amazing and so different but it has a downside as well. It's a chargin glass and you put your toothbrush in it and it charges, I assume also, this is where you keep your spare brushes as there are 4 of them in the complete set (you get all four included)If your bathroom has an easily accessible two point plug then this could look rather stylish sat by your sink, unfortunately ours doesn't and so it looks rather stylish on the floor outside our bathroom! Also, we have been using Sonicare devices for years and it's nice to know everything worked on the same charger, this is like owning the one Apple device when it became a lightning charge in a house of the old 16pin iPod chargers. It would put me off taking it away as the glass charger isn't exactly portable, although the brush itself does come with a sturdy travel case, and I wouldn't want it to running of juice. However, this is where the previous model will now be used. The bottom line is this is an expensive anndhigh end piece of kit. I suspect the price will drop down but it will still be a lot of money. If you appreciate the clean you get with sonic and know it's the best then yes, this is the next natural step. Are all the microchipped brush heads necessary? I don't think so yet, you could easily manually adjust the programme to suit the head if you wanted to and therefore is a little gimmicky.I was tempted to give this 4 stars as the cost just couldn't be justified to me, but the fact remains that Sonicare is an amazing clean and will improve your dental hygiene so much that you will never look back.

I doubt that I would have shelled out the wedge for this product myself - before I actually used it. Now, I have no doubt that I will purchase whatever new version is available when the time comes no matter what the cost. Because, frankly, this has got to be the nearest you can get to a professional clean at your dentist but at home. It really is that good.Until now I have used the usual mid range Oral-B type brushes which are good, no doubt about it, but don't even come close to this machine for oral hygiene. Really.First off the actual unit is a masterwork in electro-mechanical excellence. High end manufacturer and designed to feel and work superbly. The charging stand is extraordinary. When I opened the box I thought that Philips had kindly enclosed a whisky tumbler with the toothbrush, but no. It is a heavyweight glass designed to fit neatly over the charging base and whilst a clear style statement is in fact very well made to be both useful and hygienic. Firstly the idea is that you simply dump your brush into the glass in much the same way you would do with an old fashioned manual brush which means there is no thought about the process of charging your brush. Secondly, it means that you can wash the brush storage/charging unit properly. With the more conventional charging bases there is a small stand that inevitably gets a bit mucky and that of course has to be cleaned and which can be slightly awkward. With this glass type base you can even put it into the dish washer for a truly sparkling clean. You get a choice of brush heads depending upon your wants and needs focusing on gum health or general or plaque. There is also a tongue cleaner as well which is a bit weird to use but works well. Now for those used to a different kind of electrical brush this is a little different. The head is like a conventional manual toothbrush not the more typical round type on other manufacturers. It does not appear to move either because the action is more of a high speed vibration than a mechanical action. In use it feels similar to the kind of thing your dentist or hygienist might use when cleaning your teeth. Might take a bit of getting used to but the bottom line is that your teeth and mouth will feel cleaner than you have ever managed before. And how you use the brush is different too. And that's where the App comes in.You don't need the app and I was tempted to not bother, but that would be a mistake because it helps you change your style of cleaning which is typically one where you do lots of brushing back and forth. With the Sonicare you don't. The app directs you to sections of your mouth and gets you to slow down the hand movement and let the brush do the work. It's designed to vibrate the particles off your teeth and manically scrubbing will reduce its effectiveness. The other thing I noted with the app is that it guides you and guilts you too. Like many I tend to do a decent brush but could do better. Follow the apps advice and you do get a better job at the end of it. If you skip it suggest that you have another go in selected areas which oddly you kind of want to obey. Bit like your mum telling you off as a kid. It does work though. One more thing to mention. This does come with a travel pack that is also a charging unit and will hold a spare head or your partners. It's charged through a USB cable so you can pretty much charge it anywhere now.To be honest there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that as expensive as this is, it is worth the money. It's a properly fantastic bit of kit.

Given the price, there is no mistaking this is a premium level toothbrush. And when you open the box there is no disputing this. It feels like a premium product, and the elegant charging options make it feel like something you'd expect from a luxury brand. Indeed the main charger does not look like a charger, it looks like a fancy toothbrush holder. Amazing design. Before I go on to the review of this excellent product, I want to start with the negatives. In this instance, the only flaw I can find is through the Philips smartphone app. Connection to the brush is sporadic (although works about 75% of the time), and the brush location tracking feature which shows where you have missed is quite inaccurate. That said, it is able to provide good advice on how to get the most out of the brush, and keep track of how long you are brushing quite well. Having recently tested a premium toothbrush from a rival brand, I have to say it does not compare in the slightest. Which is a shame, because the DiamondClean system is otherwise brilliant. One of the nicest features for me has been the option to charge the brush using the travel case. It is incredibly convenient, and much better than having to search around for a 2-pin bathroom plug adaptor if you do not have one available in your bathroom. Indeed, this is the one I use most often when the battery needs topping up. All electric toothbrushes should have a USB charging option. The battery seems to last on average about a week and a half, which is more than reasonable. Some alternatives offer a longer battery life but you're rarely away from a plug for that long anyway. The brush feels well balanced and is made of sturdy plastic. Attaching the brush heads is easy, although there is a larger gap between the brush body and head when attached, which led me to believe at first that I had not fitted it properly. The toothbrush automatically detects which brush head is connected and switches to the appropriate mode. Nice and simple. In use, the brush vibration intensity (which has three presets) can be quite strong, and feels like it is extremely effective at removing plaque. The handy reminders about which part of your teeth to brush works very well, as does the reminder if you're pressing down too hard. There is also a light on the bottom of the brush which informs you about applying too much pressure, but unfortunately this is seldom noticeable when the brush is in use. I recommend using the smartphone app for first use, even if you never use it again, as it helps to decipher the meanings behind vibration feedback.I have experienced one fault with this brush in the month I have been using it. On one occasion the brush would not turn on, and the movement sensitive lights did not activate when the brush was picked up. After leaving it on the charger for five minutes it perked up again, however I have not been able to replicate this problem, and it has not returned. I am hoping it was a one off however will update this review if it occurs again.Overall, this is a brilliant premium toothbrush. If you want a stylish, high-tech toothbrush, the DiamondClean is probably for you. Just remember that smartphone integration can be a little buggy from time to time.

It is hard to know where to begin with this toothbrush. When it was offered for review I thought it was a no brainer because I like to take care of my teeth. Little did I realise just how many lightyears ahead of my childhood toothbrush it would turn out to be. When I saw the price, I was not a little staggered. However, once you have your adult teeth, I have always felt it imperative to look after them, so perhaps the rather astounding cost is worth it.The first time you use it you will be amazed, but don’t forget to charge the unit after that first time, as recommended in the Welcome leaflet.I could quote you the information from the web page, but you can read that for yourself.Suffice to say that I took a gulp and a deep breath before beginning. When you open the box, there is definitely an air of quality. I already had a Philips Sonicare water flosser, but this was into a whole new level of sophistication. The package includes a very stylish charging unit that works with a glass to sit on it. There is also a USB travel case which might be an alternative on an everyday basis. There are four heads for different purposes and, much to my amazement, each head automatically calls up a different cleaning mode, just by attaching it to the handle. You can override those settings using a button on the handle.First, I would recommend downloading the app on your smartphone, if you intend to try it at least. It is amazingly smart because the app identifies any areas you have left uncleaned or where you have applied too much pressure. Wow. There are also suggested routines to rectify shortcomings in your regime. The app is remarkable, via Bluetooth showing you what you have cleaned and what you need to do. You can also rotate the view, even check the view from inside your mouth (a virtual view of course), but clever nonetheless.I recommend reading through the instructions so that you are aware of what does what and how. There is also a video on the Amazon page to give you a starting overview.Just about everything you can read, but here are my impressions of using the unit. Firstly, it tickles until you get used to it. The sonic effect and the vibration feel strange. I wasn’t sure I liked it. I have used it many times now and believe me, my teeth feel cleaner than they have felt in my memory. It is remarkable and very effective. I would take a deep breath before paying this much for a toothbrush (£359.00 at the time of writing), but this is an exceptional piece of equipment that I suspect I will never want to be without again. For cleaning, it even knocks spots off my Oral-B Professional Care Electric Toothbrush with a cross-action rotary head that I had really loved. My only reservation is the app which is very prescriptive. It was useful for training, but I found that if you accidentally pressed the off switch, it wanted you to reset the toothbrush and start again. If you didn't, even with a tiny amount of toothpaste you could have a mouthful of foam and be unable to spit it out without dribbling down your front. I stopped using the app, continued to use the brush really effectively and still found it a great toothbrush, but without the app was so much nicer to use.

I'm not going to beat about the bush, the price is or might seem, absolutely eye-watering. But I'm going to ask you to hold my hand for a few sentences and take a leap of faith as I go through what you are paying for..First off, I was not a fan of Philips usual electric toothbrushes, for as long as I can remember, I have used Braun Oral B. The current version was the 6000, which uses Bluetooth to guide you when cleaning. That lasted about a month before I got bored of using the app and just used the brush. It cleaned well, not had any problems with my teeth apart from the dental hygienist telling me that I could be a little more efficient behind my front bottom teeth.I changed the heads on a regular basis and thought that it did a good job. Then the Sonicare DiamondClean arrived, and it has blown me away and blown the Braun away.First of all the cleaning is at such a high frequency that it makes my old Oral B seem archaic. It's like being at the dentist but without all the grimacing pain. It's a bit like attaching a toothbrush head to a Dremel!Pressure is continuously monitored and if you press too hard the base flashes to warn you. If you decide to use the app then the brush can tell by its position which area of your teeth is being cleaned, and you also get prompts to move to different areas - all smart stuff, but I'm not one for using the app as mentioned before. Out of the box, you get a selection of heads including, premium plaque defence, premium whitening, and premium gum and tongue care. You also get some antibacterial tongue spray. The smarts of the brush pick up the type of head your using and the corresponding name lights up on the handle. My teeth have never felt as clean - even after a visit to the dentist. The cleaning is fantastic.Charging has a novel approach which is no longer on one of those bases with a bit that goes in the bottom of the brush. Now you get a flat bottom on your brush and put it in a glass for charging. It could be said that this is a gimmick, but I think it is useful because even if you don't use the glass for water, it still makes cleaning a lot easier than the old charging base method. The carry case uses a similar system whereby you put the brush in the case, and the case charges the unit (powered via USB cable). The case also has space to carry two heads. I usually think toothbrush cases are a bit of a waste of time and I just chuck my brush in my toilet bag. But this case has changed my opinion, and I like it as I think it is worthwhile.Let's go back to the price. The brush cleans so well that it theoretically should pay for itself by preventing dental issues. I say this only because, as mentioned, I have used it and promise you it is that effective. But the issue is that the price is so high that for a lot of people it will be out of reach. I think that this is a real shame and I'm hoping that in a year or so the price will plummet and this type of brush becomes affordable for everyone. That's it, thanks for holding my hand.

This must be the top of the Philips Sonicare range of electric toothbrushes and to justify the price they pack a lot in. Included is a good quality glass with a large dimple in the base that I thought was attractive if unusual. Then I tried to stand up the toothbrush on the charging base and realised that if I read the instructions properly I would have realised from the outset that the glass stands on the base and the toothbrush stands in the glass for near field charging. Now I have to have a glass on my bedside table as I don't have the requisite two pin shaver socket in my bedroom. Mind you when I pop the brush into the glass the base lights up blue to let me know contact has been made, very snazzy. Also included is a very clever carrying case for when you travel away from home. Built into the base is a USB cable that plugs into your phone charger and charges the brush whilst inside the case again through near field charging or whatever its called. Just don't forget your phone charger when you go away for the weekend. The brush itself is a very attractive bit of kit in a satin black finish with bright white lights on the front to indicate the charge status and modes. When you change one of the four supplied brush heads the handle automatically detects which one you've fitted and selects the appropriate mode. We especially liked that each brush head was supplied with a protective cover. The mode can be overridden manually if you feel the urge to clean your teeth with the tongue brush. Also included in the set is a bottle of tongue cleaner. In use the brush hums at a very high frequently way above that of of a conventional electric toothbrush as it sonically cleans your teeth.Once she got used to the frequency my dental nurse wife decided it got her teeth very clean indeed so what better recommendation than that.Like most of the better electric toothbrushes it gives a little notification when you've brushed for 30 seconds to warn you to move onto the next quadrant. I thought perhaps a little chime might have been nicer at this price.Of course this is also a smart toothbrush that connects to your phone via bluetooth to monitor and report back to you on your brushing efficiency. Apart form the hassle of taking your phone into the bathroom or even indeed upstairs at bedtime if you're me we ran into one little snag that prevented us from reporting on this function. My wife's iPhone 6s just wouldn't recognise the brush when searching for new devices!

I've used several sonic toothbrushes throughout the years and each one has been better and more advanced than the next to the point where you just can't imagine how it could get any better.... that's exactly how I feel about this incredible piece of kit.The toothbrush and everything about it is sleek and stylish! I was beyond impressed with the glass charging unit and promptly replaced my old toothbrush with its hideous white plastic base with this one and love how tidy and cool it looks on my bathroom counter. The brush links to an app which I've installed on my iPhone and it really enlightens you as to how you should be brushing. It's slightly awkward and risky using your phone around the sink with water and wet hands so I used it once or twice with the app to 'learn' how tooth brushing should really be done - plus, how to get the most out of my new space-age toothbrush...!! But now I just brush without using my phone now that I know exactly what I should be doing. After my first app brush my mouth felt incredible, it's quite a powerful brush and I felt like my mouth was 'buzzing' for a while after but you lose this sensation once you get used to its different vibrations! The tongue spray is very refreshing and I use this with the tongue cleaning feature - it's especially nice for mornings I find when you have 'morning mouth' but still want to wake your Significant Other up with a kiss!!!The brush and heads fit in a sleek case for travel and it can be charged via other USB means, not just in the glass. It takes a while for a full charge but keeping a constant flow by using the glass means it'll never be 'flat'Very thorough brushing and my mouth has never felt so clean and my teeth have never felt so smooth. It's like living with a Hygienist!! It gives you tips and shows you on the app the brushing patterns you should be following and it changes any bad habits you may have picked up through being too busy to brush properly and not having enough time to look after one of the most important parts of your body!Thoroughly recommend this - it's one of those things that you can't imagine not having now that you have it. Brush heads are around £25 for 4 so I gather which I don't think is a massive outlay considering they should last a few months each - so effectively it's £25 for a 'years supply' so to speak...!Recommended. It is fairly pricey at £259 but it is a valuable investment for the health of your gums and teeth.

I started using this toothbrush recently having only used a regular, non electric toothbrush in the past, and have to say I'm massively impressed! My teeth now feel amazing and as clean every day as when I return from the dentist.Firstly the experience (and it IS an experience) is split into two areas... the first is an app to download, which guides you through your dental goals and directs you to the best brush head depending on any dental concerns you may have. Once you pop the appropriate head onto the unit, the system selects the correct mode and intensity for you and Bluetooth links the toothbrush to your phone / pad. Once you start brushing, the app tracks how you're brushing, gives instruction on how to optimise the experience and quality of the clean, and allows you to track this and your overall dental health. There's also pages to review your dental care regime, etc. with your dentist. The toothbrush itself is very tactile and fits comfortably in the hand. Not too weighty, but also not too flimsy or light. The brush is very easy to change and has a cover for when it's sitting - the system even lets you know when you need to change the brush. The box included a stylish glass to sit on a charging dock so the toothbrush unit charges while sitting in the glass. Alternatively, there's a travel case that can be plugged in and the unit sits in the case to charge.Brushing itself is a learning experience if you use it in conjunction with the app. The app will tell you if you're moving too much or applying too much pressure. Also the brush unit flashes purple / blue if you apply excessive pressure. If you've missed an area of your mouth, the app will direct you to go back until everything has been cleaned. The toothbrush itself is really excellent in its own right and my mouth has never felt as good. I actually can't wait to hear what my dentist thinks on my next visit. When used in conjunction with the app, it encourages you to consider how you're cleaning your teeth, not just go through the motions. The app also allows you to track your dental health. Even if you stop using the app, you will already have benefitted from the direction given on correct technique and awareness of how you're brushing. In summary, really fab product which I love. Honestly don't think I'll be able to go back to a regular toothbrush again and can't recommend enough.

We have used Philips Sonicare toothbrushes for 18 years and had excellent service out of them. I bought this, not because our older one was worn out, but because I wanted to try the latest technology (more cleaning modes, bluetooth connection, reporting and a USB charging travel case). This is an excellent toothbrush, with a number of modes but there have been some changes. The mouth is now divided in 6 areas for cleaning rather than the 4 we had in the previous toothbrush. This seems to be a dubious and less convenient change. Also we have lost the pure massage option. The new charger is nice in that it is a glass into which you put the toothbrush (the glass stands on the charging plate)which is nice, but you do have to clean the glass regularly now. I did not realize that UK plug meant it was the round pin type which is useless for travel purposes (I travel to the US a lot and they use a flat pin two pin plug), however it is universal in that it will run from 110/220v 50/60Hz, however you need an adapter for the charger. The charging case used for travel is cheap and nasty but functional. I was disappointed by the quality of this and it is much larger than expected (the older brush had a much smaller case but, of course could not charge the brush handle). It can use so called smart brushes that configure the handle for the brush type, but this seems little more than a gimmick to get you to buy more expensive brush heads which are already expensive. I used the older non smart type with complete success. And telling you when the brush head is worn down is nice, but the old look at the bristles and see when the colour has been removed from the top half seems just as effective and far cheaper. The bluetooth option is a gimmick. it works but I cannot see the point of it. You can program the brush to do more options but there is little point. It is fun but pointless. So was it worth it? Absolutely not. It X 2 the price of the older brush which had two handles and carrying cases and does very little more. I will keep it, but I would not recommend it. The less complex models without bluetooth work perfectly and so long as they have a clean, gum massage and combination mode (usually called deep clean) it should suffice. This brush is way overkill. So unless you have money to waste I would go for one of the cheaper models.

An excellent tooth brush, just the price is quite high.I've owned a few electric toothbrushes over the years, both Braun and Philips and they are always better than a manual toothbrush for cleaning results, but do you want to pay the price for this brush, now its main advantage is the app that helps get you out of bad habits, like moving the brush too fast or pressing to hard, which we all can get into when daily life is a constant rush, the last Braun I had got me out of the habit of pushing too hard, but i found when using this brush I was moving to fast and had to slow down, but is that worth the price, that depends on your income. They have put some effort into the charging stand which is a nice quality glass cup that goes over the charging stand itself, which is good because there are times when we rush that leaves residue on the brush that has to go somewhere, normally over the charging stand so at least now its in the cup, but I do feel for the price they should have given a 3 pin plug adapter as standard, they might only be £5 but shouldn't they be included, you can also charge the brush from any usb port, by plugging the carry case into it, which is useful if your on the move alot, no need to bring the charging stand and cup just put the brush in the case and plug it in, not sure on the charging speed but I can't see it being very quick due to the limit of usb.The brush itself does an amazing job, after following the app my teeth felt just like I had left the dentist after a cleaning, It come's with 4 head, normal plaque cleaning, gum health, whitening and tongue cleaning and the handle knows which one is plugged into it and changes it speed to the right settings. The free app is very well done and will keep a record of your cleaning and will adapt to any worries you have with an easy set up, and then will adapt the cleaning time to help. The build quality of everything is very high apart from the hinge on the carry case which is just a fold of plastic, I felt that should have been a proper plastic hinge but it will likely last quite a long time.Overall this is a great toothbrush that will get you out of bad habits we all pick up over time, probably would be very good for teaching older children to clean properly and stop them picking up the bad habits in the first place, but is it worth the high price?

I have used various versions of Philips electronic brushes and heads over the last 10-15 years and I certainly find them superior to the Braun alternatives, which I have also tried. So how does this new one compare? This latest 'top of the line' model comes with software, the Sonicare app, for you to check the effectiveness of your cleaning and other functions, four different brush heads, and two chargers: one is the glass that sits on top of a wired charger; the other is the travel box that doubles as a charger with a USB plug and lead within it. The latter is a very good idea because it reduces the amount of equipment you need to carry with you when travelling. I'm ambivalent about the glass and base idea, however. Is it anything more than 'dental bling'? The charger of other versions would have been perfectly adequate and effective. However, the bottom of the Smart Brush no longer has a small socket for you to place it on the spigot of a charger as with earlier models, and this does reduce the build up of 'muck' in the brush's base. So the socket-less glass and charger arrangement is the way Philips have replaced earlier chargers. In use the Smart Brush has five different settings: Clean, White+, Deep Clean+, Gum Health and Tongue Care+. It also has 3 built-in Sensors: Location, Pressure and Motion. Depending on the settings you select you can then check your brushing via the Sonicare app, and even set up a programme such as tartar and scale reduction to check your progress over time. So long as you use this app effectively the Bruch and heads can give you a dental care plan that is easy to set up and follow. The brush also comes with a spray for cleaning your mouth and tongue, though this is just a small bottle. Philips make their money from replacement Brush heads and other accessories such as the spray, of course. The brush and different heads work fairly quietly and very effectively, and the facility to check your brushing etc. using the Sonicare app is a good idea. BUT, and it is a big but, even at Amazon's price that is £100 less than Philips RRP this is a very expensive set up, and replacement brush heads are also expensive. So you need to decide whether you need the Smart facilities this combination offers for your dental care and pay the price, or go for a less expensive alternative.

I am an amazon vine reviewer. I have been using the Philips Sonicare DIamondClean Smart Electric toothbrush for a couple of weeks now. This review is an interim assessment for this time. The brush handle and its related 4 brush attachments and the App that you can download have resulted in my teeth being the cleanest they have been compared to my previous brush. I recommend that you download the App before you use any of the brushes. You then Bluetooth sync your brush to the App. You get a "plan view" of your top and bottom teeth. The brush heads have a piezo crystal which means as you attach the head to the brush handle, it knows which brush head is fitted. From this the App guides you on where to start brushing- for example, top teeth set, starting in the middle. You press the power button and the App diagram guides you where to brush your teeth in a set sequence. The handle has a higher pitched sound than I have experienced before. Every 20 seconds the App diagram shows you where next to start cleaning. If you brush too fast or hard the App and then brush base tell you to ease off. ONce the sequence is complete the brush stops. It checks that you have flossed, used the tongue cleaner and used a mouthwash. You get encouraging words about your progress on the App and also an indicator when to replace the brush heads. You can brush your teeth without the App, but it is more thorough to use the App. There are 4 brush heads - plaque defense, gum care, premium white and the tongue care ( a tongue spray) comes with the package. The timings for the 4 heads vary. I found that the first 3 all cleaned my teeth very well and that the tongue brush certainly cleans my tongue - new sensation for me! You can charge the brush either by putting the handle in a glass which seats onto a charging base. Or you can connect the travel case with its USB connector to the power supply with the handle seated into the 'box. The resulting clean of my teeth has been superb.Using the same toothpaste as before my teeth are both whiter and smoother to the "tongue test".My conclusion is that this is the best powered toothbrush I have ever used and it certainly is very "smart". I would give it more than 5 stars!

Bluetooth connected toothbrushes have been around for a while and I found the last one I had a bit of a gimmick. It didn't really do much when you connected to it and once the novelty wore off I didn't bother connecting again. This brush rectifies that by being one that actually has a useful app that tracks your brushing and gives you coverage of where you have brushed so you can make sure you get full coverage. The app shows a mock up a set of teeth and highlights the area to brush. As you brush it highlights the front or back and colours the back and front of teeth in as they are cleaned. This works quite well, but I did find that in some areas I had to make sure that the brush was held in a certain position otherwise it couldn't detect where it was (This was mainly the back of the teeth.) The app allows you to set goals (For example, Gum health, which makes you do a bit of extra brushing at the end on the molars). It also warns you if you move too fast, and afterwards gives you an indication of the areas where you 'scrubbed'. I am impressed with the app and have continued to use it even when the novelty has worn off.The handle itself is a stylish, with a nice grip and simple controls and lights to show the mode you're in. The handle detects the type of head you have on and automatically selects a program for you (No more fiddling with buttons). I quite like this feature. There's a glass that sits on top of the charger for holding your handle, which is a neat touch. Connection to the phone takes place as soon as you lift it off the charger and I didn't have a problem with connecting, making the whole process feel seamless and offering a good user experience. It came with three brush heads, a tongue cleaner, some mouthwash and a travel case that doubles as a USB charger (And is charged by USB itself.)A pretty impressive package, justifying its price. The seamless connection and the way the app monitors coverage and scrubbing make for a good user experience. It's a sonic brush, so on first use it was quite strange and 'tickled' a bit. There's a special mode to ease the user into full speed - they really have thought of everything.

This is the Black model Philips Sonicare Diamond Clean that I received. The product’s packaging is good as might be expected for a high end high priced product.Once the box was opened, the quality of the toothbrush and all its accessories are very well built.Using the brushI like the toothbrush head recognition system. The toothbrush base automatically recognises which brush head is in use. This is particularly useful for a quick start brushing as you no longer have to inspect which head you are using.Another feature which was interesting was the intensity bars. The intensity is set automatically for each brush head ensuring optimum results. The user manual recommends which intensity setting to use for each brush head if you are using the incorrect brush.I noticed that whilst brushing, the pressure sensor (at the base of the handle) illuminates to encourage the user to reduce pressure. This is a great feature to protect tooth enamel and prevent gum erosion.Similar to the previous model, the tooth brush can be charged using the induction base and glass. The best aspect of this method is you do not have to place the toothbrush in any specific area of the glass which enables convenient charging.A travel case with USB charging was also supplied with the product. This can either be plugged into a computer, a USB charging adaptor or a USB plug. The toothbrush in placed lying down into the case (which can be closed) and there is also space for two brush heads. The best part of the travel case is the integrated cable that can be located on the underside of the case by removing the cap.It is no longer detachable (like the previous Sonicare Diamond Clean) which is better as you cannot lose the cable !!!!!!My teeth feel very clean after use.It may be due to its powerful motor as well as the movement of the bristles rather than just the vibrating. Also, it has an in-built timer that buzzes every 20 seconds to remind you to move to the next part of your mouth. All in all a very nice electric toothbrush, and accessories that would make a fantastic pressie.I like this product ( if a tad expensive )
