It says "25W equivolent" but it does seem better than that, possibly matching a 40W incandescent bulb. I replaced a 40W-equivolent CFL (11W) with this one and I kinda prefer it.I put one in my small bedroom and it is great, relaxing enough colour temperature but not too yellow. Instant-on too, I had forgotten what that was like. You know why you're getting better energy efficiency when you touch the bulb, even after hours of use they are so odly cool to the touch where CFLs will get very hot.I read a lot about CFL lighbulbs possibly being bad for your health because I know people with skin conditions who are definitely affected.LED bulbs (as a technology)*shouldn't* leak UV if you're sensitive to that and they don't produce the EMI of the CFL which can 'dirty your power supply' or affect people sensitive to EM.When the Philips "40W equivolent" hit the (amazon) shelves, all I'd want is a slightly better price point and I might start gradually replacing the CFL and remaining incandescent lighting in the house.LED and possibly OLED look like the current 'way of the future'.

Energy saving bulbs - great idea in theory, but in practice everyone hates them as they take a while to get to the right light and are hot to touch. I decided to replace one of the bulbs in a table lamp with this type. The great thing is that you get full light immediately, no waiting for ages for the bulb to warm up, its on immediately. Also, the bulb can be held even after being on for hours, no wasted energy in heating the bulb. Just the right amount of light for a bedroom lamp, and in a child's room, no burnt fingers if they touched the bulb.A better saving in electric costs as they are cheaper to run (but more expensive to buy but getting cheaper). I will eventually replace all my bulbs with LED ones.Great bulb.

When I moved into the new place I felt like a lamp jockey. At first I was up to change al the bulbs for energy saving bulbs (CFL) and the I had to change these frequently as well. In specific the ones that get switched often.Where ever I fitted the Philips Econic 5W bulbs I never had to touch them anymore. The oldest is now about 4 years. There are currently 10 in use (bayonet and ES socket) . The energy usage has reduced noticeably. Light is instantly, no warm up period. Not one had to be replaced yet.But be aware that this bulb is a replacement for a 40W only incandescent bulb. Great for bedrooms and hallways. In specific with movement sensors, which kill CFL bulbs in no time (kids do that as well ;).

Much the same size as a traditional light bulb (smaller than most CFL bulbs), whilst it's not as bright as an old 60W, it's at least as bright as the claimed 25W.Not bright enough to light a living room (unless you like subdued lighting!), but I've found them ideal for hallways/bedside lights. They also seem to use a bit less power than claimed (I measured around 3W with a plug in meter - but don't know how reliable that figure is).I've had 3 for nearly 2 years now, all still going strong (as one would expect). All in all a great little bulb.

After being put off by the price, decided to take the plunge and buy a couple after seeing the price had dropped.Small enough to be a direct replacement for the CFL's previously used. Not a great energy saving as the CFL's where 7watt anyway but worth it just for the instant light. They appear to be brighter than the 25watt rating they are given and quite suitable for the children's bedroom. Light is white and not a yellow.I will be buying more when our other bulbs require replacement,Looking out for a 100 watt replacement LED in the future.

Very keen for LED bulbs to get to the stage were they can be whacked in as straight replacements for incandescents and CFLs, and so was keen to give this a try.And very much better than any previous LED bulb by quite a margin in terms of colour, and spread. But not enough light! To be fair to Philips, they only claim 25 watt equivalence, but what a shame not a bit brighter.Still, recommend for its plug in and go ability. This is definitely the way forward, just allow for having to double up if you want to see anything!

This bulb is not 2700K as stated in the specs. It's more like 3000K, but then 3000K bulbs claim they are warm white when they are really just neutral white. If you want truly warm white get the MyVision 5w bulb which is a lot warmer and more like tungsten and states on the packaging WW as opposed to WH on this one. There's no mention of 2700K on the packaging of this bulb unlike the MyVision bulb. Aside from that this has a nice design and a slightly larger glass globe size

This bulb is very much energy efficient but if you are planning to use these types of bulbs be prepared to pump out a lot of money. With the way technology is constatnly improving/enhancing modern day products; I would wait a little bit longer for these types of bulbs to become flooded in the market. This will greatly decrease the price of the bulb, hence the 4 star rating. Eventually the bulb will pay off for itself in due time but as for now; not worth the price.

I agree these bulbs are more like 40W & emits a nice warm pinkish colour light at 2700K, much nicer than the harsh 3000K bulbs. The energy efficiency is proven by the fact that it is cool to touch a CFL. Phillips are the best brand of bulbs in my opinion & I have used many brands. The only problem is the current cost at nearly £10. I'll wait for the prices to drop before buying more. Lets hope it lasts the 25 years they promise!

I replaced the energy saving lamp which was CFL to this one. Firstly the light is really bright and white. This might take a little time to get adjusted to it - approximately 2 weeks. After this it becomes normal and the benefits become apparent when the electricity bill comes through the post.To get the best benefit, the whole house lights were changed and the savings pay for the bulbs themselves.

Good product that provides instant light with no warm up. No electric blue glare and easy on the eye and ultimately the pocket and hopefully the environment. Have used these In most rooms without any issues. These are ideal for smaller rooms so if you are fortunate enough to live in a mansion, get some advice. For the average joe like me they are a winner!

After reading about the potential health issues with other eco bulbs I decided to change to these LED bulbs. They are a bright white light, that is not at all harsh. more than adequate for my daughters main bedroom light and for the larger hallway of our house. Will purchase these again!!!!

I replaced the mercury filled curlywurley bulbs in the kitchen. Great, instant start, decent light colour and a good looking bulb. Not to mention that they take less than a quarter of the power and will probably last for the rest of my life.

About the strongest LED direct tungsten lamp replacement that is currently available. Directly replaces a bayonet cap 40W tungsten bulb. Instant on, low power usage and will last longer than I will.

These led bulbs give a very white light so ideal for lighting up work areas such as kitchens and bathrooms. I used them in my hall some people might find that too bright.
