I have purchased a number of LED and dimmable LED replacements over the last 5years and had good and some poor experiences especially where the light output and size of the lamps did not meet my expectations. I went with a premium brand in the hope manufacturing processes caught up with the hype, in this case the Philips LED is pretty much there.Visually build quality very good with sealed surface mount LEDs and metal heat sink. This lamp is a larger diameter cf R7S halogen tubes and you may wish to check fitting/clearance before ordering. I fitted this into a mother/child uplighter with dimmer switches. The fitting had a cover over the light tube which I had to leave out so that the lamp would fit.Not as bright as I had hoped, but adequate for my needs. Overall very pleased with the build quality and light output and happy to recommend.Pros;Only 14W cf 125W of the halogen lamp usage.Works with dimmer function.Flat even lightingCons;Dimming range not as wide, but does work. Some minor electrical hum from dimmer at low end of the switch. Not full 360 lamp coverage, a minor problem in my light fitting (not an issue in flood lights) - just rotated the lamp to shine through lower lens.May not fit in all light fittings.

I don't normally write reviews, in fact I think this may be my first. I replaced the driveway security floodlight that had an old 21w CFL r7s with this new Philips 14w r7s LED version. When I originally installed the CFL bulb several years ago it was the only real low power alternative to the traditional low efficiency halogen bulbs. Move forward several years, the CFL bulb is still going strong, but noticeably it has started to take longer and longer to achieve full brightness. During the colder months it would take several minutes to warm up to produce any usable light, not ideal from a security point of view or to help with seeing where your going! After I saw Philips had released their own r7s LED bulb,I knew it was a brand that I could trust having used their LED range elsewhere in the house. The light produced by this bulb is significantly brighter and warmer than the old CFL bulb it replaced. The light instantly illuminates the entire driveway much more effectively than the old bulb. Compared to a traditional 100w halogen bulb, this 14w LED bulb easily achieves the same level of brightness.Highly recommend

For those with a security light that plugged this in and it didn't work - Make sure that it is correctly placed onto the rounded catches of the light fitting. That's what happened to me. I plugged it in thinking it was done correctly and tried it and nothing happened. Then i got my torch out and looked at the light socket and notice little rounded catches either side, and once i got it seated corrrectly, it came on! Magic, i know.It does sound very steep for a light bulb, and worse sounding compared to the prices of the regular ~400W bulbs you can get a 2-pack for (roughly £3 per 2 pack), but since this is only 14W i think that after the first year this will have saved you around the same amount so if you look at it this way,it is worth it.If you can find this cheaper, then of course go for that. I chose to go with the brand name in this case instead of something else that might actually be dangerous (see youtube videos on dangerous LED lights).

Have bought these bulbs before, very impressed by them. 14Watt bulbs replace 230Watt halogen bulbs, great saving and they are dimmable. Used inside Church, 10 bulbs replaced, thus going down from 2300 Watts to 140 Watts. Time will tell how long they last.Only downside was that I had to replace five 1000 Watt dimmers as they made the LEDs flicker, but putting in 400Watt dimmerPs (at a cost of 7.30GBP each) solved the problem and will save us a lot of money in the future on electricity charges.Bought four of these Philips led bulbs on 12th March 2019, from lubalo, as of 30th September 2019, one has failed after only seven months - supposed to last 10 to 15 years. Can't find out on Amazon if I can get a replacement of refund, this have LOST this money. Will try to return led bulb to manufacturer, Philips. Have purchased another from Amazon, from a different maker.

An LED light bought to replace a halogen double ended bulb in a freestanding mother and child uplighter. As noted in other reviews, the glass cover over the old halogen bulb has to be left off to allow thenew fatter LED to fit.. but no problems. The cylindrical LED does not have 360 light so the frosted glass on thebottom of the up lighter does not illuminate fully.. a small price to pay for a huge saving in energy.. before, thetop of the up lighter 'bowl' was very warm to the touch whilst the light was on, now nothing ( although the LED itself does get quite warm)I'm a fan of bright LED s, so prefer the bright white to the orangey Halogen light. In a perfect world I would have liked just a little morethan the 14W (100w equivalent)output.. but would still recommend.

Fitted this to a floor standing uplighter in my office. Now in the winter months I can have this on most of the day so am looking to save some money. A crude calculation for payback, shows that the bulb will pay for itself in energy savings in 4 months. (vs a 150W incandescent bulb used for 8h/day). However the bulb is not as bright as the 150w one (I wasnt expecting it to be!). Dimming is not so impressive, at anything other that full on and nearly off there is a noticeable flicker from the light, which is rather irritating. This may be down to the dimming mechanism in the lamp fixture, a more modern one might not do that. Leaving it on full power for now.Hopefully it last a long time and pays for itself over and over!

Can't comment on longevity, but bought to go in an uplighter, and it gives off very good, dimmable light - the box for the lamp specified the halogen version, a thin tube, so to use this we had to forego the glass cover that would have been over the old style bulb - I believe that it would run hotter than this does, though - burnt dust smell won't be a problem for us with this - and also, should the lamp topple and this fall out, the bulb won't smash dangerously, so not worried on that front.Worth making sure if purchasing for enclosed use that there definitely would be enough room, though - this is maybe an inch in diameter, so much chunkier than halogen would have been.

I used these bulbs in 3 up-lighters. The dimension of the bulb does mean that I was not able to put the glass cover over the bulb however I think that it's less necessary with an LED which generates far less heat anyway. The bulbs do a very, cool white and bright light that I was looking for (it is not a warm yellow) so I feel the rating given to the bulb is appropriate. I did still notice a slight buzzing from the up-lighter with these bulbs but not to the extent that it particularly bothered me. The bulbs are solid, well made and the connectors were good enough that they worked in the 3 different types of up-lighter that I have in the house.

The LED bulb was installed into an existing mother and child floor lamp. The 300 Watt incandescent bulb and dimmer was not used. The LED bulb was wired in parallel with the 40 Watt low power incandescent bulb and dimmer. The low power LED bulb was too long to fit in the child's slot, so the incandescent bulb was left alone in circuit. The double dimmer should have been replaced, however it was not easy to find a suitable replacement, that would fit correctly and only had three connections. One for the power, one for the 300 Watt and one for the 40 Watt bulbs.

To me this replacement LED lamp for an up-light, is very nice and seems to match the halogen lamp I replaced it with in, brightness and control whilst only using 14 Watts as opposed to 120 watts. Also you're not warming up the ceiling or getting the horrible smell of creatures being randomly barbecued. The only downside of course is the price. I do feel that one has to buy quality LED lamps to get a piece of mind. Of course there may be the odd LED lamp that fails prematurely. However, I think that these should be few and far between.

Works well, nice and bright (brighter than expected) it won’t power on via the plug timer if left in its dimmest setting but a slight tweak on the dial sorted that. Faint buzz audible if you’re sat right next to it with no background noise (e.g. reading with the TV off) but not enough to bug me.Quite big compared with the skinny halogen tube but it still fit as most lamps have plenty of space for the halogen bulb to have an air space (this led/heatsink doesn’t get too hot).

Dimming effect works a bit weird for my lamp. I am starting slowly turning it on and at some point it just "wake up" at about 30% of brightness. However when you try to turn it off (by dimming it step by step slowly) - it operates till very low brightness, I'd say the lower limit is at ~5% of it max brightens! So why it is turning on only at thirty percent - much shame such pity. However brightness at 100% is decent. Colour gamma (CRI) is at pretty good standard.

I purchased this bulb to replace an old 200w R7s in an uplight. It fits perfectly as a replacement despite the vast difference in bulb size(the new Phillips bulb is much thicker) and looks great. The light colour temperature is perfect for our high ceilings. The only slight negative which is also commented on by other reviews is it does hum slightly when heavily dimmed, no noise on 50% brightness or above.

Fitted one in each of my John Lewis floorstanding uplighters. Colour temperature is a bit cooler than I would’ve liked. For bedroom applications 2700K would’ve been more suitable. Unfortunately not available in 200W equivalent and in one of my lamps it flickers and produces an audible hum when set at less than 100%. This may be down to an old dimmer mechanism as the uplighters are over 10 years old now.

These give out a good light, and are a much lower wattage that a 'normal' bulb.Be aware that they are also a lot more chunky, so if the fitment is tight, you probably won't be able to use one of these. But if the fitment is only tight because of a glass shield - you won't need it. That shield is because the bulb gets very hot, but these LED ones do not, so you can safely discard the shield.
