After purchasing the Hue Lux lighting system, one of the draw backs was that I would tend to switch of the actual light switch which would make the Hue system useless. There must have been others with this same issue and before I knew it, the Philips Hue Tap was announced. This product in a nut shell is a physical switch to control user selected lights which are connect to the Hue lighting system. It can replace or be used alongside the Hue app.The Hue Tap has 4 buttons, each can be assigned a different scene. It is about the size of a hockey puck, so fairly small. Each of the buttons have a grey dot, defining the number which represents each button. Button number one is not like the other buttons.Buttons 2, 3 and 4 look like actual button, whereas button one is pretty much the whole Tap. The buttons do require a good press in order for the scene to be activated. This is because the Tap is powered by kinetic energy, which basically means it is self powered which eliminates the requirement of batteries. The Tap can be setup either using a computer via the Hue website, or via the Hue app on a mobile device. You first connect the Tap to the wireless bridge and then assign a scene for each of the buttons. For detailed instructions please use the manual supplied with the unit. It can then be fixed onto the wall with screws or stuck on the with 3M tape onto any surface, using the supplied mounting bracket and the Tap can be clipped onto the wall or used as a portable switch.Personally, I use button one to switch the lights off, and the other 3 buttons for lights fully on, lights half dimmed and lights dimmed as low as possible. At this price, I think is it expensive for what it actually does, but it does fulfil one of the drawbacks from the actual Hue lighting system. At the moment I have only purchased the one, but looking to purchase more if the price is reduced. In order for this product to meet its RRP, it should have included a way to manually control the brightness of the lights.Overall, I would recommend this product for those who need it. If you required an additional switch to the phone app, then purchase this product. Hopefully Philips will bring out newer versions of this which should include more features to control the lights. 4 stars because of the price of this product.

Everyone complains about the price of the Tap, but if you have invested in Hue then you already know it's not a cheap lighting system so no surprises here really.Out of the box I was up and running in a few minutes. Using the official Hue app you register it to your hub and then can assign functions to each of the 4 buttons. Before I got my Tap I was controlling my lights solely with my phone, mostly using 3rd party apps which would address each bulb individually. I've got 18 bulbs so this would take a couple of seconds to change the colours on each bulb. The first thing I noticed was the Tap addresses groups of bulbs rather than individual ones,so when you click a button all bulbs change at exactly the same time which is nice.I was expecting there to be a slight delay between pressing a button on the Tap and the lights responding but this isn't the case. The lights respond instantly, just as they would with a conventional light switch.I'm an Android user and the official Hue app doesn't really unleash the full potential of the Tap, all you can do is set buttons to actvate a scene or turn off lights. If you search Google Play for Hue TapApp you can configure it to do much more and make it into the product it should be. It adds functions like dim up or dim down, randomise and (most importantly in my eyes) the ability to set a single button as a conventional on/off toggle switch.Overall I'd buy one again, it works well and it's very handy when you don't want to fiddle with your phone or other people want to control the lights.

I got this from the apple store so have been living with it for a few weeks now and have some conclusions - overall I am pleased and have bought a second already, but there is one bit that could be better. But first the good bits- very, very easy to set up with the ios app. Like all the hue items, it takes about 30s. It integrates really well as you attach each of the four buttons to a scene from the app (or to turn certain lights off). It's not obvious, but the tap comes In two parts- a based which you can either stick or screw on to the wall and then the detachable part that you can walk around with if you need to. And it does indeed need no wires or batteries. The prime selling point for me?Babysitters and guests. If I go out or to bed there was no way before this to allow others to control the lights (just basic on/off) without giving network access and a smart device (expense, but worse a big hassle). Now, I can hand the tap to them and relax. People are used to light switches and expect complete control- not being able to control the lights they found alienating - problem now solved! The bad- it is a bit "clunky". I'm all for old school haptic feedback, but the feeling when you push the buttons is a literal clunk, but an unpleasant plasticy one unfortunately. A minor point perhaps, but in a system otherwise perfect it does stick out.Overall however, I suspect this will be even more reason to buy yet more hue bulbs!

This is a four part physical switch for the Hue lighting system which requires no batteries and can be used as a handheld remote or mounted anywhere you like. It makes using the Hue system much easier, and turns it from being a fun gadget into a really useful way of managing your lighting.Essentially, this is an off switch, which you activate by pressing the wide area in which the other buttons sit, and three buttons for three scenes. It comes ready programmed, but the real use of it comes when you allocate a scene of your choosing to each button using your regular app and smart device. It takes about six actions on a smartphone to get to Hue, get to the scenes, find the scene you want and then activate it.In the mean time, you are fiddling with your phone, which isn't especially attractive to guests etc. With the Hue Tap, you just press a button, and whatever lights you had activated gracefully fade into your new scene.I particularly like the way it doesn't use batteries. Because of it, there's a bit more pressing involved than you might like, but it means that you are not setting yourself up for yet another thing needing maintenance. With this, you can fit it, and forget it.This is pretty much perfect in terms of what it tries to be. However, if I could ask Philips for anything, I would ask for Hue switches which could directly replace the current wall switches (with a physical switch for emergencies).

This little device is great. At £50 it seems really expensive for a switch but it just takes the pain out of turning your hue lights off at the end of the evening when the last thing you want to do is get your phone out, unlock it, fire up the Hue app and finally hit the turn off option. The tap does so much more than that too. I've configured the main button to be a simple on/off, the 2nd one to cycle through my favourite scenes and the 3rd to dim the lights progressively on each click. The 4th is currently set to 'random' so the lights are set randomly on each click - some of my best scenes have come out of random clicks! The fact there are no batteries, etc. to worry about is good too.The device charges itself when you click the buttons. You can program the tap device with basic options using the main Hue app but to do all the cooler bits you need to download a separate app from Philips - the Hue Tap App.Definitely worth the investment if you've got Hue! If it was a little cheaper it'd easily grab 5 stars instead of 4.

I was looking forward to this being released, we have a lot of Hue lighting in our living room but one of the downsides was that you have to get your iPhone out to turn off the lights at bed time. Also found that I was the only person in the house really using it that much because I normally keep my phone on me at all times. This stop us expanding the hue lights into other areas of the house such as bedrooms, kitchen or bathroom. The switch is a bit clunky on press but I feel this is because of the way it generates its own power so it doesn't require any batteries. I quickly setup three scenes in the normal way (on the app) and assigned them (on the app) to the various buttons. Now to activate that seen you can just press the button, what's even more useful is pressing the main button turns off all the lights.Planning to get more of these as we expand Hue into the rest of the house. Might even put on in the car to allow me to activate/turn off lights when leaving the house or arriving.

For me the this was the missing piece for my Hue living room setup. There are many apps out there that give you full control of the lights but the problems lays when a guest (or in my case girlfriend) is unable to turn lights on / off without a certain app installed. The Hue Tap sits perfectly next to my main light switch and has now become an essential part of my everyday life. In fact, I rarely find myself using my iPhone or iPad to even control the lights these days. The Tap does take a little bit of trial and error in getting the right setup. I personally use the 3 smaller buttons as dimmer settings and the large back button as off. The buttons themselves are slightly 'clunky'but that is seriously no issue and shouldn't be something to be put off by.

I have now an army of 15 hue bulbs and a motion sensor and this switch is an unbelievable product. The fact that it does not require a battery is pure magic. It makes installation simply a matter of decision wherever you want to put it. It'd be rated 6-7 stars if they managed to squeeze in a dimmer switch in there. You programme the 4 available buttons to your preset scenes and to be honest, one you played around a little with your presets, this is the tap becomes the most common interaction you use when using your lighting. The only thing to be beware of is that because it uses mechanical force to generate required energy, it requires a good press rather than a "tap" as the name suggests

Had no issues with the 2 of these I have and am contemplating getting a third mobile unit - as the other 2 are effectively room bound (even though you can twist them and remove from their wall holder). I have bought a bunch of hue lights now and although the iPhone/iPad is great for configuring and controlling this really makes the system viable. It couldn't be easier to configure either just a few clicks and you assign a scene or lights off.The fact that you don't need a battery and the clicking powers them is just brilliant. My only slight issue is that it would be good if they did a tap with a few more buttons or a way of having a dimmer twisting switch otherwise I can't fault at all.

Works perfectly!!I was laughed at by my wife, she said, "we buy lightbulbs that you can turn on in the lamps using your phone and to make it more convenient you by a light switch to turn them on, whats the point?"At first I agreed I had gone round in a circle, but no! That is not the case, with a light switch on the wall I can now turn on my "lamps" which is not something you can do with a normal light switch.... Also you can have a number of scene setups, which is a great idea, not only that I can unclip it from the wall and still use it.You do need to push quite firmly for it to operate as its powered by the inertia of the switch being pressed, which means no batteries required!

When you have spent all that money on the lights and LED strips, you really don't want to spend any more. Anyway, once you know this device is out there you wonder is it worth it?The answer is yes, you have no idea how liberating it is to just be able to adjust you lights instantly and without locating your mobile/tablet first. So once you have all your lights, get someone to buy you one of these as a birthday of Christmas present. It allows the whole household to use the lights immediately. having no batteries really appeals to me too. After 6 months, it has never failed once to obey a button click. it is easily customisable on the app. It is easy to update the app too.

The Hue Tap bridges the gap between always needing your phone to turn on the lights. The beauty of this device is that it will mean you wont need to turn the light off and on manually if you wanted to turn it on without your phone, additionally you can create different moods for the lighting. In my case I have:1) Full Brightness2) Half Brightness3) OffThe reason for 4 stars is the following:1) Cost - this item is not cheap at £502) Setting up - the initial set-up of the tap is confusing and also the pairing can be a slight hit and miss at timesOverall though a good piece of kit

Fantastic product. Not only does this save getting a phone or other device out just to change the lights, but it allows four preset scenes (we use the centre press to turn all the Hue lights off, which is great at bed time). The device itself is brilliant - using NO electricity is fantastic! No wiring, no batteries. Very, very clever, and I look forward to more small, low-draw devices adopting a similar principal.Fits on the wall nicely next to the switch for the conventional lights, and also comes off the mounting plate if you want it on the coffee table or wherever. Brilliant.

I am blown away as an engineer by the Tap Switch! No batteries or power needed as it uses the kinetic energy ofjust pushing the switch. Yes you can just tell Alexa to put lights on but this switch really compliments Alexa. So the upshot is that if you want to put some new lights into your house but you dont want the cost or hassleof the installation of cabling then the Tap switch and the Philips Hue are the answer. I used Philips led light strips forback ground lighting but didnt use their coloured lamps as they are stupidly expensive and I used Innr lamps instead. Superb...

I love the fact that you can stick this anywhere and it can control up to 4 lights or 4 scenes which you setup through the Hue App. It's completely wireless which is great and battery less which is even better. When you press any of the buttons your force generates enough power to carry out the action. This sounds great on paper but in reality it's a bit of a pain as it take a good bit of force to get it to work and sometimes you need to press it twice to work. I would gladly swap the battery less for a battery to tell you the truth and have proper easy to press buttons.
