This is a good value cat flap that uses your cat's microchip to control opening. It is ideal for dark coloured doors, either wood, composite or UPVC and looks less intrusive than the more usual white finish. It is a single installation as it does not support the "connect" options that allow you to control one or more cat flaps using a phone app. It is supplied in a branded box containing; the cat flap, screws, instructions and an installation template. You can also purchase accessories separately such as an RFID Coller to operate the flap if that works better than the cats own chip or it cannot be made to work. It is guaranteed for three years with the promise of 12 months battery life.It can be installed through a wooden or UPVC door,a wall or through a single or double glazed glass door although it is recommended this is left to a glazier. A glass fitting kit or tunnel extension is available separately if required. It can be used as a direct replacement for Staywell and Petporte cat flaps and will support a tunnel depth of 75 mm without an extension. Installation was simple through my UPVC door with the template being particularly useful for getting it straight. Batteries are not supplied which feels a bit mean and it requires four AA type batteries which are easily installed. You then register your cat by pressing the set button as they approach the flap to operate it. If your cat is not used to this type of flap the noise as it unlocks can spook them initially and it can be easier to register the cat with the flap prior to installation.Once registered the flap reads the cats microchips allowing them in while cats will not be allowed in. It can be set up so that any cat can get out so if an intruder manages to get in (tailgating possibly?) they do not get locked in. However, after a couple of weeks, we have not had this happen. You can also manually lock the flap to keep the cat in if required via a locking switch at the front which offers four options; in or out, in only, out only, or fully locked. The flap seals well and does not cause any noticeable draughts although the weather is quite mild at present. The flap itself is transparent so that the cat can check it is safe to go out or just use it as a window to the world like mine does!Overall this is a useful cat flap that seems to perform well. If you have a requirement for multiple cat flaps or a changing requirement you may be better with one of the "connected" options but to provide sanctuary to your cat through a single opening this works well.

I tested the Brown PetSafe Microchip Cat Flap.I wanted to try this as my male cat was feeling stressed due to the introduction of a male kitten to the household, and was refusing to use his litter box if the kitten had also used it. Obviously, having 2 cats, I have 3 litter boxes - but the kitten would go in all of them, so the cat would refuse to use any of them and prefer to use the bath!I managed to solve this problem with a brainwave. I used duct tape to tape the microchip cat flap to the closed hood litter box, and programmed it for my male adult cat's microchip by pressing the M button while he was eating treats from the tunnel entrance. Then, with some coaxing and treats,I managed to get him to enter the litter box and realise that it was just his scent in there. Problem solved! He happily used the litter box this way without getting stressed by the kitten's smell.Once this problem was resolved after the kitten was neutered (they get on fine now), I had this cat flap installed on the back door by a handyman. It comes with a tunnel section, the cat flap, and you can buy additional accessories to ensure a good fit whether on a glass door, wooden door, PVC door, door side panel, or even a brick wall! There are four settings on the flap - 'In or Out', 'In Only', 'Out Only', or 'Fully Locked'.The unit uses 4x AA batteries, which last quite a while. When the batteries need replacing, a light flashes on the unit to let you know.I thoroughly recommend this cat flap!--I also tested the brown and white versions of the PetSafe Manual-locking cat flap with the help of my friends, who tried one each. These follow a similar simple installation procedure, however do not work via microchip. There is a 4-way lock which features "Fully unlocked", "In Only", "Out Only", and "Fully Locked".The colour options mean that the cat flaps can blend almost seamlessly into a wooden brown door or a white PVC patio door. The cat flap has a magnetic closing latch and a draught excluder and fits most sizes of cat.

If you have a cat and it uses an ordinary cat flap, the chances are that other cats could have been gaining entry into your home. I only found out that was happening here when I heard an almighty commotion and discovered a full-scale cat fight taking place in my kitchen. I did try a cat flap that used a collar attachment, but my cat is very good at losing her collar, so one that uses her microchip has been an ideal solution. The mechanism needs batteries to work and you need to keep an eye on when they need to be replaced as it will otherwise stop working properly. It is also a good idea to ensure your cat’s microchip can be read before you install it – the microchips can move from the neck and had moved to the abdomen in one of my cats, but could still be read by the flap fortunately. If the chip is in the wrong place, I would consider rechipping the cat.Operation for the cat is easy and they just need to put their head in the opening, as normal, and it unlocks and allows them through – usually. I say usually as you do still have manual control and can totally lock or allow entry one way or the other even if movement is attempted using the microchip. That is useful for vet visits, or similar. There is a slight noise when the latch disengages but mine didn’t blink and were happy to take to this straightaway, even though at least one has a slight tendency towards being timid.Fitting should be within the means of most DIYers, although I confess, I asked a local handyman to put mine in as the door needed adjustment to some wood panelling. Full instructions are included.Microchip cat flaps stop other animals gaining unauthorised entry to your home and ensures your cat is kept safe. My cats have been much happier since we had one installed as their home is now theirs alone, well perhaps they might allow it to be mine as well.

All of our cats are micro-chipped. This serves two reasons - identification and being able to link them to cat flaps. We have a PetSafe cat flap for our side door so when another came up we jumped at the chance in installing this into the conservatory wall. As one of our friends is a handy DIY man, he put the cat flap in for us.Once installed, the tough bit is getting your cats and registering them against it. Once done (after hisses and scratches along), you have a lot of control as to how the cat flap behaves. There are four settings 'In or Out', 'In Only', 'Out Only' or 'Fully Locked'. It has been invaluable keeping the prowling toms and other strays from entering the house. One thing you do need to be careful of relates the location of the microchip on your cat. It really ought to be sitting at the top of the neck area to register otherwise the cat flap won't work. It's worth remembering that if this is the first time you're putting one of these in, you'll need to 'train' your cat by passing them through the flap and using treats to entice them. They soon get used to the clicking sound. If the batteries fail (it needs 4 AA ones), the cat flap goes into a full open mode meaning it flaps around quite freely so keep an eye on it. We found you should replace these every six months but if your cats love sitting by the flap, it will go on and off that is it likely you'll need to replace the batteries sooner than you think.£70 may sound steep but for peace of mind, it's worth protecting your cats as well keeping unwelcome moggies from entering your home.

Before receiving this Cat Flap, my Friends would leave their downstairs window open for their Cat to come back into the house at all sorts of hours in the night!Often they would waken when hearing their Cat enter and at Wintertime their Bedroom got very cold. The Pet Safe Cat Flap has been their answer to a night of better sleep, a warmer home and above all peace of mind that their Cat can come and go with ease without disturbing their World. The Cat Flap was easy enough to fit with detailed instructions and even a template to stick to your door and cut around for a good fit.2 Screws and screw covers are provided also so all that was need was a Pencil, straight edge, Spirit-Level and a file to complete the task, after that, all that is needed is some Silicone to finish the job and make it rainproof. My friends have left their Cat-Flap setting to manual as they have informed me that they looked up other independent reviews and found out that when Cat owners set their Cat-Flap to automatic, that, some reported that their Cat got their Tail caught in the Flap door. This led to some minor and some major injuries as some Cats had to have part of their Tail amputated.Manual setting, therefore, was deemed to be the safest and best option.

I'm really very pleased with this manual cat flap from Petsafe, it is very easy to install and comes complete with the templates required for cutting a hole in a door for this cat flap to fit into. We have a stable door in our kitchen leading out into our back garden and this is the door of choice with which our cat's enter and exit their abode. We received the brown cat flap which matches our oak stable door perfectly, my husband managed to cut a hole and install this cat flap into this door in a little under an hour. Which wasn't bad considering our two cats were persistently getting in the way of progress trying to see what was going on. Once installed this cat flap has four options in use ...fully unlocked (our cat's preferred choice but not ours), in only (our preferred choice after dark), out only (our preferred choice for early morning) and fully locked (we haven't used this option yet). This is a very good manual cat flap which is well made and has a good sized entryway. My only criticism outs that the opening and closing of the flap is a bit on the noisy side, however this has not deterred our cats from using it.

With a cat flap like this you need to consider a few things carefully that the manufacturer can't control: 1. Make sure your door is suitable for installation. Not all doors can accept a cat flap easily, especially UPVC doors with moulded panels. 2. Make sure you have the skills to install or know someone that can. A certain amount of DIY knowhow is required for this to be successful. 3. Make sure your cat's chips work correctly - you might want to take them to the vet first to make sure they're still functioning as they can fail. 4. If you cat or cats have never used a cat flap before it will take them some time to understand it.The onus is really on the buyer here - the cat flap I had no problems with either in fitting or registering the chips of our two cats. The only issue you might have is that the device makes a click when it reads the chip that might cause you cat to refuse to go through it. It can take them a while to get used to it. I think our two took a couple of weeks to get the hang of it. Other than that we have no problems.

Earlier this year we acquired a new kitten after a gap of a couple of years in our long term cat owning. We had had an existing cat flap in our replacement back door for several years, installed at the same time that the door was, but it was not microchip controlled. As a result we several times found other neighbourhood cats had ventured in and eaten our cat's food. We had had Jimmy microchipped so that was the answer. It was rather expensive at full price at the time (currently £30 cheaper !) but we have had it for over three months now and it has worked brilliantly. Our young cat was initially spooked by the clicking but it took no more than a day for him to get used to it and then he was going in and out freely whenever he wanted. The four way controls (in only, out only, in/out, locked) are simplicity itself. We unlock in the morning and lock at night and while it is open for him, no other cat can enter. Perfect solution. We are very pleased with our purchase, just a pity we could not wait for Black Friday !

This isn't the cheapest cat flap on the market but it is superior to many of the cheaper brands from our experience. You can register upto 40 cats microchips to this device, although I've not told my sister that, her 4 are enough! It gives them freedom throughout the day to come and go as they want without any risk of strays or neighbourhood cats getting into the house as had previously happened. The dark brown surrounded is excellent for their interior decor. Not everyone wants white so it's just preference really. Its deep. It will be obvious from the outside and the rim is a couple of inches deep but this isn't really an issue for us as the cat flap is used at the kitchen door facing the backgardenYou will need AA batteries for this device to work.

We have five cats, but have issues with at least one other cat who treats our house like his home, so got this Petsafe catflap to help with keeping him out.Fitting was easy, which was a relief as it’s always nervy when fitting a catflap; it’s an expensive mistake if you end up ruining a door. I’m pleased to say that now it’s been in for a couple of days, it’s working really well. I was concerned that the sensor wouldn’t pick up our cats’ microchips until the cat was too close, meaning that the catflap would be slow go unlock and cause lots of banged cat heads as they unsuccessfully tried to access the locked catflap, but it’s been fine. It’s taken out most nervous cat a bit to get used to the new catflap, but he’s now fine. Really pleased with this.

Let's let this into our upvc door. WRONG! Turns out that our upvc door has some kind of metal brace at about teh height you could put a cat flap - wonder what genious though that was a good idea! So damage to the door, to no avail and had to get a upvc repair kit to make it right. Nobody impressed. But hey, we have an old wooden side door - so let's try that. Aha, that's fine neat hole using thw template then all installs like it should.Cat happy, just every now and then cat's chip does not open it - but 90% of the time its fine. Cat (quite a big fellah) is a tight fit and I just hope he doesnt get any wider cos he may get stuck. Anyway, all good for the moment! Not sure about battery life as only used it for a week so far.

In a multi cat household its sometimes hard to make sure that outside kitties don't chance their luck to steal the food from my own So this microchip reader is a great way of making sure that it only opens for my fur babies. It was easy to put in, works very well and to be honest having had to do one vet trip already being able to lock it to prevent an escapee from evading a trip is a feature that I'm more than happy with. All round a great item and whilst some would say its pricey, the ability to keep it just for your house hold pets and work from their microchip all round makes it something that I'm more than happy with. A great item.

Took cat two days to get used to new flap. I left batteries out and taped down locks so cat got used to using flap (it was slightly smaller than his old one). Then put batteries in but still left locks taped down - to get him used to the clicking sound of the locks. Then put batteries back in and untaped locks - and he went in and out easily without thinking. The only slight problem is that he likes to sit inside looking out, which triggers the scanner to keep locking and unlocking. This was using up the batteries fairly quickly. Now I am using rechargeable batteries. Overall very pleased with the micro cat flap.

I had a white manual catflap installed before and luckily they are identical in size so i was easily able to just switch them over. Mine is in an external upvc door. All the instructions you need to fit it including a fitting template are included. It was easy to register the microchip, cats were used to them already, and i like the fact that it has 4 features you can switch between. Its easy to install the batteries, buy rechargeable ones, beter for the environment and you wont ever run out.Overall an excellent and very well made catflap, i am very happy with it.

We have four micro-chipped cats and a large burglar cat from next door so this is ideal for our family. I was a bit hesitant at first, but actually it works seamlessly with no delays or awkwardness. This is especially important as one of our cats is a bit nervous of the car flap but he didn't have any problems. It's easy to install- just take out your old one and put this one in as it's the same size, or it was for us anyway. Keep an eye on the battery life, but ours has lasted months with no problems.
