This will be my 4th Pentel P207 in over 40 years. I lost the first one after a house move having had it for about 2-3 years. The second one was bought in 1983 when I worked in Leeds. I still have it although it was dropped and stepped on and the plastic near the tip split, some time in the late 1990s. My third has had the hardest time of all, working daily since 1999 and only now is being replaced with the 4th one. They all live slotted into the spiral end of shorthand note pads and I have worked my way through over 100 pads and over 3-dozen 12-lead refills. The top part split near to the end button and was repaired with a dab of superglue and some plumbers PTFE tap wrapped around the top.I retired it to the pen-holder on my desk. The 4th pencil arrived today and has immediately been put to use writing up my notes and surveys for the day. The Previous Staedtler 0.7mm, which I have had for only about 3-4 weeks, has a rubbery grip for the place where it is held and this has already started to go sticky. Someone else can have it - probably a very nice pencil but nothing like the build quality of the Pentel. The Staedtler clip has already bent and dropped off and comes loose far too easily to be of use when doing industrial surveys. A pencil dropping from the top of a high silo or tower because the clip has allowed it to drop from the spirals of the pad, is no use to me at all.The P207 has proved to me it is rugged, reliable with leads and rubbers that are easy to get.Why compromise on a simple good design at an excellent price?

The Pentel P200 series is a surprisingly good pencil, it doesn’t seem to be anything special, it is a cheap, simple and functional item as far as a mechanical/draughting pencil goes. It does however offer far more than would first appear, it’s tuff, reliable and reassuringly well made. I am still using a 30 year old P209 (0.9mm version), apart from a few signs of wear and tear it works as well as it did when new. At the same time I also obtained a set of 3 similarly priced Faber Castell mechanical pencils, while the P209 is still going strong the 3 FC’s have long since been consigned to the bin.My new purchase of the P207 is virtually indistinguishable from the old one with regards to materials and build quality,so I have no reason to think it will not last as well as my P209.I have an ever growing collection of mechanical and clutch pencils, most of which being far more expensive than the Pentel P200. They all have their merits, but there is something very satisfying about a cheap pencil that is as good to use as this one. In it’s own way it is as pleasing to use as a Rotring 600.For the price it’s impossible to go wrong with the Pentel P200.

I first purchased a Pentel propelling pencil about 30 years ago for my Technical Drawing O Level and I still own and use that very pencil today. It's simple, well designed and sturdy so it's hardly surprising that it should last so long. I acquired a new one more recently and as far as I can tell the design hasn't changed (and why should it?) so the Pentel propelling pencil you buy today should, with a little care, still be in use by your children and their children's and so on ad infinitum. Think about it! Your purchase will enrich the drawing experiences of generations to come - somethig you should be proud of!The pencil is sleek and comfortable to use and the barrel is lightly grooved to give a non-slip grip.It has nice steel accents at the nib, clip and button and it looks classy in an understated way. The whole thing can be disassembled and reassembled easily (hardly necessary, but there's little in life more satisfying than seeing how a propelling pencil works). The 0.7mm leads draw (obviously) slightly wider softer lines than the more standard

I use this pencil alongside the P205 version which is a smaller lead size. Upon first receiving this pencil, I was very impressed with the quality. It feels sturdy, not too weighty and the shape makes it sit in your hand comfortably. My primary use for this pencil is sketching, a job for which it is the perfect tool. The eraser under the end cap is handy for erasing those small mistakes mid flow but it also makes it a useful pencil for when out and about. I've replaced the HB lead with Pentel 2B lead and it still works perfectly.A quick tip: to refill the pencil with lead, you must remove the rubber at the cap end and place the lead in there.

It doesn't matter what some people say about the Rotring 600s and the Uni-Ball Kuru-Togas, or even Pentel's other, more expensive offerings like the Kerry or the Graphgear. These are the best. These P207s or P205s are the best. They're as cheap as chips, they sit in the hand better than much more expensive mech pencils, and the mere fact that they're cheap is better for the soul. Some people say they've owned the same pencil for thirty years, and I believe it. And that's another thing: The design hasn't changed in about forty years.Pentel got it right the first time, and even they can't make superior, pricier ones.

This pen is very consistent nd I have had it for about 3 or more months. I never had any problems with it and I rarely need to refill it as it comes with plenty of given lead! The eraser on the end is actually replaceable if you run out so it’s good to see and the feel of the pencil is light but not cheap feeling! Couldn’t be happier~!Perhaps it’s self explanatory, but be sure to get lead that is 0.7mm and it must be 0.7 otherwise the lead will either block or it will not fit! Don’t compromise![If my review and photos were useful, don’t forget to rate me as “helpful”, thanks!!]

Before I retired, I used to use these types of pencils at work, and they are one of the best on the market for their price, and ease of use. They are easy to grip for any long period of time, and last quite a long time. The leads inside them are long lasting and you can use them for all sorts of DiY jobs as well as general uses. I have not been able to find them in any of the national high street shops, despite looking for quite some time now. I am very happy with them, and would not hesitate to order more when I need them.

This is the 2nd 0.7mm pencil I've bought as my first one broke after about 20 years of service in architectural sketching.I've had the 0.5, 0.7 and 0.9mm versions and I consider the 0.7mm the best - its still draws a fine enough line but isn't as fragile as the 0.5mm which tends to snap - but that's probably just down to me applying too much pressure! The lead is easy to refill and the erasers are replacable.£3.99 is an absolute steal in my opinion - I would happily pay £20-30 for another!

I have been using these retractable pencils for years and the only reason I have ever needed a new one is due to losing them. They are of an incredible quality that has remained over the years this pencil has been available. Its design is timeless and minimalist and the colours are almost as recognisable as Walker's crisp packets.I will keep buying these pencils regardless of what other options become available. Conclusion: Exceptional quality; timeless design.

That 0.2mm counts.I use a pencil day day in, day out at work and as much as I would love something like a Montblanc, I'm not sure I could justify it. I used to break 0.5mm leads quite frequently and bits of lead would fly around the office, into the screen and into the keyboard. In fact, inverting the keyboard and giving it a shake resulted in a lead shower. The Pentel is light and comfortable to hold. And so far, I haven't broken a lead.

You don't have to spend £80,000 to buy a design classic. Provided you get a genuine Pentel version of this pencil (I do wonder if someone makes fakes) it will be totally reliable for years. It is a comfortable, quality classic - like a Jaguar car, Crombie coat, Churchill shoes. Never consider that someone might be using a superior item, no matter what they paid for it.

My 13-year-old son is loving Art and has taken it as an option for his GCSEs. He kept telling me he was watching YouTube tutorials where they were using mechanical pencils and that this one had been recommended, he said it takes a bit of getting used to but he’s really enjoying Experimenting and using this kind of pencil. Great quality would highly recommend

Great pencil. Why? It's a drafting quality retractible at a low price. Ok: you have to hold down the button and press the lead holder against your table/notebook to retract, but it is pocket safe! And the lead is solid to drafting standards, not wobbly like in more automatic retractible pencils. Finally, it has excellent ergonomics and seems very reliable.

I work on multiple customer sites and use these a lot. The construction is pretty robust but not as solid as a Staedtler or Faber Catell equivalent. The erasers are hard to replace if you let them wear down too far and the advance mechanism can be a little coarser on occaision than I would like (having trained as a draftsman many years ago)

I'm an engineer and I love these pencils as they spell professionalism. What makes the 0.7 so good is that it does not break off under normal use like the 0.5. I particularly like the French blue colour which distinguishes this pencil from more expensive but less practical products.
