This is a pack of 12 high quality pens with gel ink – it’s a rollerball like a biro, but the writing looks more like it has been written with a fountain pen and without the blotchiness that so often affects biro writing. The idea of gel ink is that it looks like liquid ink but flows slowly enough that you get just the right amount on the page, and dries quickly too. With this pen you can get smudges if your hand touches the ink immediately after writing, but after a few seconds it is fine, so with care you will not have a problem. The ink is permanent so suitable for cheques, contracts and so on.The pen is made in Japan and you can get refills. To get started, you remove a small tip protector, after which you can write straight away. There is a rubber finish near the tip for a good grip. The pen looks OK but nothing special; it is a bit busy with lots of text printed on the upper part of the pen. Who cares though; it feels well made and the tip retractor operates smoothly. This range comes in 3 tip sizes: 0.5mm, 0.7mm and 1.0mm. This particular set is the 0.7mm size which means about a 0.35mm line width; perfect for day to day use but not suitable for fine writing or drawing. The ink is a fairly light blue; go for black if you want a dark colour.Overall an excellent pen for the office, or buy a pack for home if like me you are inclined to lose pens now and again.

I don’t tend to write much by hand these days – usually just small notes. As such, I usually resort to the Biro brothers’ marvellous invention & by comparison these EnerGel pens are much smoother to write with. The cartridge ink gives the finished product the look of having been written with a fountain pen, while still being affordable. They are a pleasure to hold - I usually go for biros with a rubberised section for grip just above the nib & these are textured to give the same effect.Apparently the “low viscosity liquid gel ink” dries very quickly. I’m right-handed but hold my pen in such a way that it tends to smudge what I’ve just written. For me,the “EnerGel formula” didn’t quite dry quite quickly enough to stop this from happening but it does still dry much faster than a fountain pen.In work, I handle archived documents & have noticed that the biro ink on hand-written notes & letters can seriously deteriorate to the point of being almost unreadable on documents 5-7 years old. EnerGel claim that their does not fade over time – I’ve only had mine for a few weeks so I can’t really judge but they look ok so far! These are very nice pens which bridge the gap between affordability & excessive quality. Great in the workplace & handy around the home. Slightly more expensive than biro's or fibre pens but they're worth it.

The Pentel EnerGel retractable, permanent gel ink, roller ball is a comfortable pen to write with and hold. It uses LRP7 refills to give the pen a longer working life. There is a silicone, non-slip grip which has a light textured wavy line pattern. I makes for a good grip without indenting on the fingers. The pen feels smooth in the hand with no sharp edges or seams. It has a metal clip with an enclosed edge so it will not cut a pocket. There is a light, positive click to retract the nib; the retract mechanism is easy and comfortable to operate. Each pen comes with a little plastic ball that seals the end of the nib which needs to be removed on first use. Once removed the pen is ready to write right away. The blue ink flows smoothly and instantly from the very first use. The ink is permanent, waterproof and fade-proof which makes it suitable for writing on cheques and archival documents, and if you get caught in the rain with your shopping list. The nib tip is metal with a 0.7mm nib width. It is not too wide or thick and makes a clearly visible line. The ink is not clumsy-looking on the paper and it doesn’t smudge. The pen is really a delight to use.

I admit I've fallen in love with these pens. I've never really used gel pens properly before, except in funky colours, and I know this is funny, but it feels like writing with a really good fountain pen -- there's a silkiness to how the ball rolls and the ink comes out that makes writing with it actually joyful. I'm a pen-person, so I do tend to have favourites and use them to death, so I'm really thrilled to finally have discovered this kind of pen, when I've been stuck on my stainless steel Parkers for so long. It's not cheap but I would say it's worth it, though I'm more likely to buy one pen at a time. I've given a few away, and everyone's loved it. Now I'm hoarding the precious few remaining!I really like that the ball point comes with a little seal on it, which I'm guessing prevents it from drying out. The line is a little on the thick side, but you adjust. It's worth it for the smooth glide! The only downside I would say is that the ink doesn't dry very quickly, so if you're working fast, smudging is a risk, unfortunately.

Thankfully in this day and age I don’t have a lot of need to write things by hand. When I do, I like gel pens as I’ve rarely got on with biros. The only problem is that they’re usually rather expensive. This is a nice set of pens. The ink flows smoothly and evenly. I’ve not had the problem – which I have with some others – of getting too much ink out at once, resulting in a blot. I’d say it’s a fairly dark blue, but not navy or near-black.The one issue – common to most gel inks – is that the ink doesn’t dry instantly, which means it can smudge. In one of the photos I wrote the word ‘Smudge’ then ran my finger right over it afterwards (not as I wrote). It was a hot day, so my hand was slightly sweaty, but, as you can see, there’s significant smudging. You can see a little smudging in one of the other photos too. This could be a worse problem for some, particularly left-handers.Overall, these have become my main writing pens, but they are not smudge-free, so a little care is needed.

These EnerGel rollerball pens with permanent black ink look good and are of reasonable quality. They come with a little blob of clear rubbery plastic over the nib to avoid drying out prior to first use – this is an advantage for this pack of 12 which might not be used for a while. The clicker top is firm, not wobbly, and the clip to fit in a top pocket is sturdy. The pen feels nice and light to hold, maybe better in a man's hand than a smaller woman's, and has a slight grippiness in the wavy pattern where the fingers hold the pen. The ink flows well, a little like a fountain pen rather than a 'biro',and it dries almost instantaneously leaving no smudges as you write – particularly good for left handed people whose hand runs over the words just written. This box of 12 pens looks good for home or office use and comes at a reasonable price. Refills are also available.

My son goes up to secondary school in September and we recently attended an open evening at his new school. They went through the rules and stuff and apparently every morning they have a "kit check" to make sure they have the right equipment for the day. Ruler, calculator and four different coloured pens. As he tends to lose items fairly easily I was delighted to be given the opportunity to test this set of 12 red pens - hopefully he still should have some left by Christmas! These are gel ink pens and are well made and sturdy in the hand with a stippled lower rubber section around the bottom third of the pen to aid grip. The tip is metal and 0.7m wide. The writing action is smooth and fluid though care should be taken as the gel takes a moment to dry. The pen is comfortable to hold and looks smart too with its black shaft and brushed metal trim.

EnerGel Permanent Retractable Rollerball, 0.7mm tip, Red ink, 1 pack of 12 pensThe pens. These are a set of pens with red permanent ink.Using.Each pen comes with a protective tip on the nib. This has to be removed and then the pen is ready for using. The grip and feel of the pen is quite nice and it feels solid and well made. The ink flows at any angle and never blots or runs; it dries very quickly and is non fade and permanent. The nib retracts and over the last three weeks of using these and keeping them in my jacket pocket I have never had a leak or a run from any of them.Overall.A nice quality set of pens and very useful if you need permanent ink which won’t fade in sunlight. The pens are well made and you can get refills for them by the looks of things. Very good for business use.

This is a box of 12 red rollerball gel pens with push button tops and permanent ink. The ink becomes waterproof once dry so it's archival quality and fade resistant. For the price per pen, I think the pens look quite smart and classic with their black and silver colour way. They are comfortable to hold and to write with. The 0.7mm nib writes with the perfect thickness in my opinion and I think it will suit most handwriting, large or small. Ink flow is excellent so the pens are great for cursive writing and equally good for people who press only lightly on the paper and those who press down more firmly. The pens are good quality overall and refillable so I reckon they work out good value for money in the long run, especially with it being permanent ink (which most gel pens are not).

If you ever want a set of twelve red pens then these are the ones for you. They write with a clear, bright red which is r=easy to read and shows up on lots of different backgrounds. As it is a gel pen it flows well and that makes writing quicker and easier. The pen itself feels substantial enough and is a pleasant chunky size and thus easy to get hold of with a softer, rubbery bit where you grip the pen to make it more comfortable to use. It retracts with a good, solid action and doesn't seem like it is going to get stuck or have the mechanism break easily.Just to point out to new users that the tip is blocked with a small nub of some sort of substance which you need to remove before the penworks - dragging it forcefully over a piece of scrap paper a few times did it for me.

I use a fountain pen for all my work, but I use gel pens when it's not convenient to use a fountain pen. I don't like pens with small grips that require you to push hard on the paper. These pens are very smooth writers with a comfortable grip. There's nothing on the packet about the fact that these pens are approved for legal documents, but they are permanent and suitable for cheques etc. The gel takes a few seconds to dry properly and then the ink cannot be washed off. I tried soaking the paper in water and the ink would not come off.The pens are a bit more expensive than the nasty cheap ones you can buy but they look a lot more expensive. I've been using one for a few weeks now and it's not dried out or failed me at any point.Recommended!

I found the whole pen extremely light, too light. That is weight, it feels like writing with less than a feather, as such I found it hard to write with until I was used to it.The gel glide was also not perfect, I noticed on sweeping strokes the gel would often not evenly apply, leaving either a weak or broken line. I tried this with several of the pens in the pack, and it appeared to be a common problem. The grip has a semi-plasticised end, however, it's not fabulous, I found the pens somewhat too round to be completely comfortable with. All this said, they're not terrible, but they're just not fantastic either.

30.6.2017

These pens are very nice indeed. They are incredibly comfortable to hold in the hand, and are just the right dimensions and weight to feed solid and reassuring. The ink flow is consistent and smooth, and it is very nice to write with. It's a gel pen, which means that you don't get the occasional blotchiness that affects ball points. The lines often look more like a fountain pen than a rollerball, and you can buy refills for them.Just be aware - the ink is permanent. So don't let you kids have them if they are at all prone to drawing on the walls, table, themselves (and they saying it was an accident)

17.7.2017

These are quite a specialist pen when you look at the specifications - indelible ink resistant to a variety of solvents - but ultimately they are a high quality rollerball with all the usual Pentel attention to detail. I've tried to wash out the ink with water (no impact) and with alcohol wipes (very little impact) so I'd vouch for their ink albeit unusual for me to want to sign in red! Overall a well designed, comfortable, clear and smooth writing experience with the extra reassurance that the ink can't easily be altered - just beware letting kids get their hands on them!

24.6.2017

So, permanent gel ink. They come with tiny plastic covers for the pen tip, that might mean the permanent type of fluid they use could dry out, so I'm making sure only one is used at a time.Permanent ink, but its not a marker pen.I wouldn't give one to a naughty school boy as knowing it's permanent ink will encourage them to mark other students.Anyway, it flows really easy out of the pen.Beautiful if you write with a light touch.Messy if you press heavily. If you have nice handwriting, this pen will really show it of.
